An outstanding experience
Our table ordered all three tasting menus plus wine pairings. This gave us an opportunity to compare and contrast. All of them were excellent and most courses were truly outstanding. Beautiful presentation and taste profiles. I particularly liked the venison main course. It was so flavourful and tender. The restaurant is super flexible for any request. Service levels are very high. Noise level is low. Pacing was perfect.

Though I live in the UK, I’ve been lucky to have discovered Cafe Juanita on a holiday trip around 20 years ago and I’ve been a firm fan ever since. On sone trips, I even made a special detour to Seattle on my holiday just to eat at Cafe Juanita. Michelin don’t visit Seattle but if they did, I’m sure chef Holly Smith’s cooking would garner her some stars. It’s hard to categorise her cooking - she describes it as northern Italian and no doubt there is Italian technique in there but it’s definitely sophisticated Italian with flourishes from elsewhere. My favourite dishes have been the foie gras (my favourite preparation in the world), rabbit in Arneis and the bread I hadn’t been to the USA since 2018 due to world events but last month, my wife and I visited sone foodie friends who had just moved to Seattle. They wanted me to take them to Cafe Juanita as I had told them so much about it about the years They have moved to a tasting menu format since my last visit with omnivore, pescatarian, vegetarian and vegan menus on offer. In addition, there were extra dishes that could be added to the menus. Our waitress told us that there was a lot of flexibility if we wanted to exchange dishes between the menus This was good for me as I had always gone back to my favourites on previous visits and this way, I could try more dishes. In fact, I had never tried the pasta or risotto at Cafe Juanita and I was excited. Well, the food was stunning. Standout dishes included the wagyu croccante - a thin crisp bread with the most wonderful layer of beef, tomato and seasoning, risotto from heaven, the foie gras (thank goodness they haven’t messed with the dish as it was perfect) and amazing pork presa. I had tajarin - essentially angel hair pasta served with sage butter and crispy sage - nowhere to hide with its simplicity but delicious due to trust in top class ingredients with a magical touch in the kitchen It was great to see Holly who served a couple of the dishes and Linda, our server looked after us well. Valet parking was a nice addition too as the car park isn’t the biggest My foodie friends loved it and it was great to be back in the embrace of an old friend

Finally getting around to reviewing Cafe Juanita from our January visit. (If I could, I would give a 3.5-star review.) We have been dining at Cafe Juanita off and on since it opened over 40 years ago. When we were asked by a client what our favorite restaurant was, we immediately answered Cafe Juanita! We were given a very generous gift card by her. When checking out the menu before our visit, I was surprised to see they had gone exclusively to a tasting menu. I don't know when it changed, but we were disappointed. We got over that and made our reservation. I appreciated their website that suggested appropriate attire and to refrain from cell phone usage. We arrived via Uber and were dropped off at the door. We were surprised to be greeted by 2 hosts that were both wearing masks. It was hard to hear/understand them, and the masks were just a little off-putting. My husband and I were shown to our table that was sandwiched between a 4 topper and another table for 2. In our opinion, there was little ambiance...it's modern, loud, bright, and packed. Long gone are the days of the cozy, intimate setting where the menu was written on a chalk board. We really missed that. (Yes, we have been back since those days.) We were there on a Friday night, around 8:00pm and the clientele appeared to be young techie types. The "kid" next to us was wearing a beat up, stained, white logo tee shirt (however, his wife was well dressed). The young couples on the other side were all dressed up and looked to be celebrating something special. Definitely a mixed bag of those that read the website and those that just showed up. The food was good, but exceptional? I think not. I had the Pescatarian, and my husband had the Omnivore. We had dined a few months prior at a Michelan Star restaurant in Amsterdam that was half the price, outstanding food, and an excellent waiter (it was also a prix-fixe tasting menu). Lastly, the wait staff was "good" but not great, either. Our waitress seemed very robotic and did not make us feel special. (However, we did leave a very generous tip). With prices that high (higher now) and the 5-star reviews, I would expect every wait person to make each patron feel like royalty. I guess we are old school, but we just weren't impressed and were mildly disappointed. We've never been huge Canlis fans (always preferred Cafe Juanita), but for the price and our experience this time, we would definitely choose Canlis next time.

Excellent as always. They have eliminated la carte options and focus on prix fixe menu options. Presentation, taste, preparation all evident, we enjoyed everything. Service attentive. Good for special occasion or just a lovely low key meal out. Reservations needed.
Be the first to ReplyGreat way to celebrate our 60th wedding anniversary
The food was wonderful and beautifully served. We were so impressed from start to finish. The wait staff was pleasant and very knowledgeable about each dish and wine selection. Wagyu A5 Miyayaki was cooked to perfection and my spouse's Halibut was so savory and cooked just as he wished. Each course was the right size serving so one still had room for a mouth watering dessert, panna cotta with summer berries. So often we find a fine restaurant with so much noise that it is hard to visit with others. They have taken steps to muffle the sound so it was just right for visiting. This is the place to go at anytime but particularly for a special occasion.

We always go to Cafe Juanita for my birthday but of course, in 2020, that wasn't possible. So this was our first return visit since 2019. They are just as wonderful as before if not better. Right now, they're offering a choice of omnivore, pescaterian, vegetarian, and vegan tasting menus, with a few optional supplements. We both opted for the pescaterian and were not disappointed. Everything was fabulous, from the tender Hokkaido sea scallop appetizer to the magnificent black cod. Portions are perfectly sized to leave the diner pleasantly full. There were also an amuse bouche and a palate cleanser. Service, as always, was excellent. Proof of vaccination is required.

We're new to the area have have been using Cafe Juanita's take-out option. It's spectacular. So well prepared, so delicious, with easy instructions. I decided to try their Thanksgiving menu and it was incredible. I even cooked the pork at the wrong temperature and it was still wonderful. I don't know how they're doing this, but it's working. We're loving everything.

Ordered some take-out food from Cafe Juanita. Delicious! Easy transfer of food at the restaurant. Korobuta bacon, heirloom tomato, and arugula sandwich on a potato roll. Pappa al pomorodo soup, one of our favorites, and rich chocolate tortino with huckleberry sauce. All really good and all highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyVery good, but over-priced and unusual menu
I went there with a friend for a birthday, and the food and service were excellent. But the menu was a little too off-the-chart - I couldn't find anything I really wanted. So I settled for what my companion said was what she came for, and it was OK for me.

Be the first to ReplyWas good to go back to Cafe Juanita
During my frequent visits to Seattle, I had not eaten at this restaurant for few years, provably because of its distance. I went back this month and the experience was once again excellent. The charm of the place and the setting are the same wonderful ones and the foods keeps its highest standards. The pasta dishes were superb, a wagyu beef dish wa excellent, fish was also good all in all great food. Service was good.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent tasting menu; white truffles though a total loss!!!
Excellent Tasting Menu started yellowtail crudo w avocado and toasted almond. was so fresh tasting and delightful. Like it had just been caught from the ocean then Prosciutto w apple bolbolini - very different flavor and apple went great with this. the apple mellowed the prosciutto flavor and was an unusual pairing but it worked well. then Tarjarin with white sturgeon caviar which was really delicious and flavorful - could have used an entire entree of this. the pasta was amazing; homemade of course Oxtail Risotto which was very delicious and rich and full flavored with 30 month parma-reggiano which had a richness due to the oxtail and (wine marinade?) contrasted with the sharp yet mellow aged cheese then chanterelles with french beans and black truffle and thyme huckleberries. flavorful, tender and yet you could taste the mushroom flavor. the black truffle had more flavor as you could taste more than the white truffles which i had tried in another dish. Rack of Lamb with charred radiccio and eggplant and pine nuts which was so tender and the lamb was absolutely delicious. It tasted semi sweet, meaty and not gamey. I ordered for extra Fois Gras which was with candied ginger and cocoa nuts. It was very delicious. rich and flavoriful I did some of their pairings but not all. Dessert was bittersweet chocholate tortino with hazelnut gelato also bread basket was so good and a great variety of bread items. I also ordered WHITE SHAVED TRUFFLES which were a total bust. next time I would ask to smell them before I got them. I think they must not have been stored correctly as they had NO FLAVOR or NO SCENT and were a complete waste of money. Another party next to me (local people there) said the same to me. it did not ruin an otherwise fantastic dinner but was not worth it. The staff could not have been nicer. I dined alone as I had been on a business trip there and was dealt with professionally and kindly.
