Well where to start, yes I understand we didn't have a reservation but we got there at 4pm the moment the spot opened so sat and had some drinks at the bar awesome since the kitchen didn't opened till 5pm, but didn't like the fact that they rush you by saying u only have the table for an 1 hr and 1/2. So u must chug your food down fast and not even that. I been there couple of times and I don't think I will return anytime soon since we took some friends of ours from South America that visited the first time and they weren't impressed with the level of service from the front. The waitress was superb and the bar folks also.

Had such a great time here, live music, great food and the bartenders were full of spirit and good vibes. I'd recommend making a reservation if you want to be seated and served near the music/dancing, if not head to the back bar. The Cuban food was authentic and very well prepared, tons of flavor. I 100% recommend this to anyone staying in Miami.

The service is unbelievable slow. The ambiance is unique. Best ambience in Calle 8. They should improve the service quality.

What a magical place! The music, the energy, the vibes and the cocktails are one of a kind. Although Cafe La Trova is well know and very well respected, my experience here was definitely the icing on the cake for me and my friends the evening we dropped by after dinner. There was a live band, great music and the place was of course packed on a Friday night. But for some reason it just felt vibrant vs overwhelming, The team of cantineros are consummate professionals at their craft with top notch hospitality to their guests, coupled with contagious energy as they break out in dance. To my surprise, I was invited behind the bar to participate. At the moment, I didn't realize really what was going on but before I knew it had a maraca in my hand and I was asked to get in formation. I was laughing so hard while also triggering my less obvious shyness for a moment as I did not expect to be front and center. But it just made the night all the more fun, memorable and absolutely perfect. I will definitely be back as this place is truly very special! Thanks for the amazing visit!!
Be the first to ReplyCafe La Trova has one of the best happy hours in Miami.
It runs from 5-7pm, with live music starting at 6pm. I've been here several times, tried many things on their menu and have never been disappointed. From their delicious (and not to sweet) cocktails to modern take on Cuban food and overall ambiance, La Trova is must if you're visiting Miami.

Cafe La Trova is a must! Very unique environment transporting you to the heart of Cuba. We had a large party with a prefixe dinner set up family style. We started off with calamari (so flavorful!) and chicken and steak empanadas. For dinner, fresh fish and skirt steak, both delicious and we ended with bread pudding for dessert. The live music starts around 8pm and the environment becomes lively with a bar in the back room that becomes a dancefloor with a DJ come 10pm. The service was attentive... the table and restaurant with seating was a bit tight and our party was 16 people. However, you can't top this unique experience!

What a tremendously special experience to visit Cafe La Trova! If you want a fun and energetic vibe that transports you to Havana, this is the place for you! We walked in around 8:45pm and it was packed. No reservation so we tried to do a walk-in (definitely make reservations in advance if you can). There was live music as we entered and it was so lively and fun - people were getting up and dancing from their tables, people just enjoying the atmosphere. We lucked out and grabbed a seat at the bar which ended up being great because the bartenders not only make fabulous cocktails but they are often part of the show with the musicians and also have their own tricks in making some drinks you don't want to miss. In terms of food we ordered both the Cubano empanadas and the ceviche that came with tostones.... Both were absolutely delicious! If we were hungrier we definitely would have ordered more! Put this place on your list to visit if you're in Miami! Not to be missed!

Make sure to get a reservation! for anything after the music starts. Amazing cocktail, bar and bartenders, could use a broader menu, but the fare they have is high quality!

I felt like, I was transported into a neighborhood in Cuba! A very lively restaurant with a live band which starts in the evenings. The Cuban music! was spot on, The bar was hitting while the restaurant was filled to the brim. Every single dish we had was tasty and authentic, The service was perfect!

Definitely needed. The place was packed and there was a short wait (less than 10 minutes) for my table, with apologies. I was offered a seat at the bar (same menu) but it was off in a corner away from the stage so I opted to wait. Speaking of the stage: music is a big deal here, playing throughout the night. Not mere background either. Tonight it was a 4-piece band, of what Latin style I cannot say - salsa perhaps? So good and engaging that more than once I found I had stopped eating, mid-chew, watching in mesmerized astonishment. No exaggeration. Drink: an excellent mojito, packed with mint leaves, sweet, tangy and limey. I started with an appetizer: Buรฑuelo de Bacalao (salt cod fritters): a good sized portion of 5, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, pleasingly salty and tasting of the sea, accompanied by a generous amount of spicy aioli. Superb. At no time was I made to feel rushed. When I placed my appetizer order I expected I'd be asked to order the entree at the same time. She said whichever I prefer but either way the entree wouldn't be served until I was ready. I opted to wait and peruse the menu more. (They will however request you move to the bar area if you choose to stay longer than 2 hours which is reasonable. My stay was a little over an hour and a half.) Service was impeccable. It's the kind of place where if you drop your napkin leaving the table it will be restored to the table, neatly folded when you return. Happened to me twice. But don't for a minute think the atmosphere is stuffy and pretentious. Quite the opposite, warm and welcoming with an energetic, festive vibe. My entree choice was actually the lowest-priced entree on the menu due to its simplicity. Lechon: pork shoulder with cracklings, steamed yucca, tangerine, and pickled onions. Only a squeeze of the lemon and lime wedges was needed for additional flavor, along with the bottled hot sauce which was offered without asking; it was not a brand I am familiar with. A huge portion, and I took more than half home and didn't even quite finish it the next day. I liked it very much but next time I would try a more complex dish, or maybe the crispy whole boneless snapper. The room was dimly lit and had a cozy feeling. Walls decorated with music posters and LPs. Tables were small so conversations would be easy even though the noise level was high between the band and the many diners. Curiously, a carcass of an old car was a central feature in the decor, and many diners posed for photos inside - an allusion to the ancient autos they manage to keep running seemingly forever in Cuba perhaps? The stage backdrop was made to resemble an urban facade, with aged stucco walls, a doorway and window dressed with blue shutters, ivy dangling from the balcony overhead. A place to celebrate birthdays apparently. There were 5 while I was there, each time marked by a cake with dazzling sparklers (no mere candle) and a trio of singing waiters, cheers and applause all around. Second drink: unfortunately I had 50 miles of driving, at night, back to my wilderness campsite in Big Cypress. But that mojito was so good! What to do? I've got it! Another, hold the rum. I'd like to say I didn't miss the rum but of course I did. But it still had all the minty sweet limeyness of the real thing and it was the right decision. A small selection of desserts are offered, all true to the Cuban theme. I was pretty full or I might have tried the Banana Tres Leches? I opted instead for Flan De la Flaca which normally doesn't appeal but seemed worth trying. A wedge-shaped slice, served with a wafer (type unknown) and whipped cream. Pretty good but I thought it could be improved by a fruit sauce or some other accompaniment. Wow, such an experience. Without hesitation I would return here on my next visit, without even considering the numerous other options in the area.

This was my second time at Cafe La Trova and it did not disappoint. The food is a creative mix of Cuban fusion dishes with some unique blend of tastes. Love the cod fritters (buenuelos de bacalao). In addition, the server was accommodating and helpful at all times. And of course the music and ambiance is great too. New favorite restaurant in Miami for this visiting Cuban from California.

Made reservations with close friend's of ours at Cafe La Trova. Great environment to enjoy live Cuban band performances. The layout of the restaurant didn't feel as crowded which is a plus. The food was of high quality. Definitely a fun place to visit if you're from out of town.

This saddens me to write this review as I've been dying to go to Cafe La Trova since they first opened and finally, I had an excuse; my bday! I rounded up my family, everyone was excited as well, I called to book a reservation. The second I told them we are 11 people, it was a nightmare.. any groups over 10 people require a large group reservation which includes signing a contract and 459 different strict rules. First off, they make you put down a credit card and sign a contract which is normal for any restaurant with a large party. However, most restaurants have a prefix menu where everyone can select their own choices from a small menu. Well Cafe La Trova only gives you the option to choose 2 apps, 2 entrees and 1 dessert served family style for $59/pp plus 22% tip plus taxes - the options are just okay. If you want more options, you have to pay more but it's not worth it for the food they're serving. I'm sure you know how difficult it is to accommodate everyone in a group of 11 with just two options for the table. At my table I had two guests allergic to seafood .. we had to pick fish and ropa vieja, I asked if they can please swap a fish for arroz con pollo so they don't die and they said no, that it will be an additional $29 and if I don't want to pay extra, that those guests can simply just eat the ropa vieja. What a response lol (they only brought 3 ropa viejas for 11 people). This is ridiculous, most restaurants can accommodate an allergy. So many red flags from the beginning, I should have just gone elsewhere where they actually want my business. Fast forward to the day of my birthday dinner. I choose Cafe La Trova because they were Named Top 50 bars in the world so I had high expectations. Every single drink we ordered was extremely sweet, I have a hangover just thinking about it and diabetes. Such a shame. Now let's talk about the food, croquettas were good, calamari was tasteless, ropa vieja was okay and the fish was very fishy. Mind you, we complained about the fish and instead of swapping it for something else, the owner, Julio, told us to go to Sergio's if we don't like it.. seriously? Overall, huge disappointment and bad experience from the moment I booked the reservation. This is not how I pictured my birthday with my family. I hope Cafe La Trova fixes their large party rules because it's ridiculous and you should not speak to your guests like that if they complain about the food. I used to work in a restaurant and I would simply apologize and ask my guests what they would like instead and comp the dish they didn't enjoy. This could have avoided a bad review. Worst part is that we were forced to pay 22% tip when the service was mediocre. If you know me, I never write bad reviews but this was just such a terrible experience and really ruined my bday.

Excellent late night vibe! The service was quick and the place is very lively with loud music and lots of people talking. The food was above average but not the absolute greatest in my opinion. I really enjoyed their drinks and dessert! Also the live music really made this place a must go to experience!
Be the first to ReplyLoved coming here for dinner! Service was amazing.
The vegan entree was great. I do wish they had a few more vegan options, such as a vegan empanada or dessert. The cocktails were some of the best we had in Miami. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyThis is my favorite Cuban restaurant.
This place is set up to teleport you right to Havana. The live Salsa and some good Rum. The food was delicious. Can't believe how fast everything was coming out. This place could be a nice spot to go on a date.
Be the first to ReplyVery lively ambiance but the food was subpar.
With so many Cuban restaurants in Miami this one definitely falls short. Not sure what flavor profile the chef was going for but it is definitely lacking. The only two dishes I would say are the jamรณn serrano croquettes and the risotto croquettes. The fried cheese was served cold (gross), the snapper was flavorless, the ropa vieja was very chunky and not shredded as it should be, the rabo encendido pasta was missing something. The only reason for the two stars are the lively ambiance due to the live band and the quick service from our waiter. I will not be coming back, and suggest you try any other Cuban restaurant.

The ambiance and service are great, but the food is average, and the price is high. We went early so we didn't hear the music but I'm sure the music is great. So unless you are a tourist, I won't go there again for food.
