Cafe Martorano Fort Lauderdale Reviews from The Last Year

Overpriced for mediocre Italian food Was very disappointed will not return waitstaff were so confused
They open at 6 it's 6:17 and raining out.
Have some common sense and open the doors. The foods good but common open the door.

The food was absolutely incredible, and the service was prompt and attentive, with the staff explaining the menu in detail and highlighting all available options, including desserts. The atmosphere, enhanced by music and movies, creates a perfect date night experience.
Food & service has gone way down hill.
Everything was Luke warm or undercooked & salty. The carbonara & pizza were the only thing that was edible. Meatball like warm, eggplant stack just ok, clams too large & breadcrumby, linguini & clams chewy & salty, Waitstaff Never asked if we wanted another cocktail, water glasses were never refilled. I won't be going back. And.... they won't care.
Cafe Martorano is my favorite Italian restaurant in South
Cafe Martorano is my favorite Italian restaurant in South Florida. Growing up in a large Italian family, this place makes me feel right at home. This is southern Italian inspired, Italian-American cooking at its finest. I was surprised to see so many negative reviews, but after reading them, you'll understand why. The atmosphere here is fun and energetic. If you want to whisper sweet nothings to one another while listening to the ocean - this may not be for you. The food btw, is spectacular, including the pastas, which are some of the best I've ever tasted. What sets this place apart however is chef/owner Steve Martorano, who not only crafts authentic Italian-American dishes out of the kitchen, but also curates a nostalgic soundtrack of 80s, 90s and early 2000s music that will make you want to jump out of your seat. Show me another celebrity chef who can do that. Better yet, show me another who shows up every night and actually cooks in their restaurant. Adding to the ambiance, classic movies like The Godfather, Goodfellas, and A Bronx Tale play on the wall, creating a perfect culinary and cultural experience. We started with the baked clams and calamari which were perfectly seasoned and not dry or overloaded with breading. The eggplant stack was another highlight, featuring crispy layers of fried eggplant, fresh mozzarella, aged balsamic and fresh basil. Every ingredient tasted incredibly fresh, with the mozzarella made in-house and the calamari prepared to order--none of those frozen rings you find at other places. Each dish was made to perfection, showcasing their dedication to quality. The linguine and clams was flavorful, but without all the butter and cheese most places will load it up with. The red sauce is truly as good as my mother's, and it hurts me to say that. The cavatelli with short rib ragu tasted like my grandmother's kitchen on a plate. Rich short rib, bursting with tomato and fresh basil. Perfection. Traditional favorites like veal chop marsala and chicken parmigiano are fantastic, but don't sleep on the steak. Prime NY strip, cooked perfectly and served with peppers and shaved, sharp provolone. It's as good as you will find at any steakhouse. I can't say enough about this place. Highly, highly recommended!

Went here last week while in town on business and was impressed by the food and the service. Their fresh mozzarella appetizer is amazing and their chicken parm was delicious as well. The interior has a pretty big bar in the center that takes up a lot of space and the decor is dark. Definitely not a traditional Italian restaurant feel. I'm not sure what the owner is going for with the decor, but the food definitely brings people in.
My wife and I enjoyed a delicious meal at CM.
I loved the meatball salad and the chicken cutlets. The chicken was so tender that I could cut it with a fork. And the meatball? Just like my Italian grandmother would make them. We wrapped up dinner with some tiramisu and cappuccino. I think that was the best tiramisu I've ever had. Thank you to the team at CM for a wonderful experience. We hope to return soon.
Great food
Hey Cuz, The food was amazing, and the staff were excellent at this very authentic Italian spot—one of the best! The chicken parm and spaghetti with meatballs were both outstanding. Top-notch service all around!
The very best place to eat in Fort Lauderdale.
Make reservations, it is worth it. Service is amazing, food spectacular. Atmosphere is what you would expect. Be prepared to tip the most you have ever, it is an amazing experience. Thank you Steve!
One of the worst meals EVER!
I don’t know where to start on this one… based upon some prior reviews on other internet sites, our expectations going into Cafe Martorano (CM) were high. We waited for a table long past our reservation time but were excited once seated. First observation, CM is as much a 70s disco as it is a restaurant. Two issues with that… first, the music is so loud you cannot even have a conversation, and we were seated outside! Second, the crowd is generally older, a “Love Boat” crowd trying to hang out at a throwback disco. Anyway, I digress… the meal. Gerardo was our waiter, “G” as he is known. Colby was his assistant. We ordered a couple of cocktails, lychee martini and skinny spicy margarita. Both were very good! Next came the food order process, which they explain is inviolate. Once you order, there are no changes or substitutions, the kitchen runs on a clock, no exceptions. We ordered the grilled octopus and stacked eggplant appetizers. And selected a lobster entree and catch of the day as our dinner. All good, order in. About 5 minutes later G comes back to report they have no more grilled octopus. OK, we roll with that, we’ll have the calamari instead. G returns again another 5 minutes later to report they now have no more stacked eggplant. OK with that too, we ordered the pigs feet (something different). So, all is well right? Wrong, remember that “the kitchen runs on a clock” thing? The calamari arrives, delicious, perhaps some of the best ever. About 1/2 through the calamari, the pigs' feet arrive, and it’s a platter (check pic). No one explained the gargantuan serving size of the appetizer going in. (Colby told us later that the pigs' feet appetizer is the cheapest thing on the menu, and the kitchen needs to get rid of it at the end of the night, that's why the portion was so big!). So, we mopped up the calamari, and we were 5 minutes into the pigs' feet when the entrees arrived. We told G we’re not ready for those, and suggested he return them to the kitchen, which he did. G is back two minutes later saying, “the kitchen says the entrees HAVE to be served now, they have no heat lamps.” We decided our dinner would be cold no matter what, so bring them out. He did. 15 minutes later, we set aside the remaining appetizer, and tried the entrees… cold and disgusting. We sent them back. No use taking them, we had an early flight the next morning. No pics of the entrees included here, they looked and tasted cold and horrible! The problem came down to “the kitchen runs on a clock.” All food ordered at one time (no exceptions) and the clock starts running. Apparently, the kitchen and wait staff are not smart enough to realize (or they just don’t care, which is perhaps a bigger problem) when an initial set of appetizers is ordered, and are not available because of a shortage the kitchen, and substitute appetizers are ordered, the waiter and/or kitchen need to hold up the rest of the food and adjust the service schedule. I worked in the restaurant business for years; it’s not rocket science. It’s common sense. CM does not care enough about its customers to try to make it a good experience, it's their “rules,” too bad if you don’t like it. We explained the problem to G, and all we got back over and over was “We told you up front the kitchen works on a clock.” Great reasoning for someone with no capacity to think out of his little box. Instead, he treated us like we’re idiots who didn’t understand the rules. It was a waiter/kitchen screw up, the appropriate move was to re-make the entrees when we were ready for them. By the way, this all took place at 11:30pm, the place wasn’t crowded. And, finally, there was no move to adjust our bill in light of the restaurant’s mistakes. A very expensive dinner ($300) that ended up in the trash. We were planning after dinner drinks and dessert, no chance for that. For the first time in 30+ years, I left no tip. That seemed fair. Between the cheesy 70s disco for the 50+ crowd, the music so loud you need earplugs even to sit outside, the condescending and arrogant service staff, a servers/kitchen apparently run by the mindless, CM ranks up there as one of the top 3 worst dinners I have had… ever! Popularity has obviously given rise to arrogance and stupidity. Not only can I NOT recommend CM, my advice is that you avoid CM at all costs. If I could rate CM negative 5 stars, I would. Don’t waste your money on that place. Go to Olive Garden, the food and service is much better! If I sound irritated, I am, and it's 5 days later.

Amazing Dinner at Cafe Martorano.
This is a very special place! The food was delicious Thank you Chef Steve Martorano for another amazing dinner!
A delightful experience
If you're looking for authentic, homemade Italian, Martorano's won't disappoint! We sat at the bar and had a perfect experience with Adam. Hands down the perfect starter is the meatball salad - sets the bar high with all the deliciousness of that meatball with a nice dollop of ricotta and a nicely dressed salad. We followed with the baked clams. They were tender and sweet. The broth was so flavorful and the homemade croutons were an excellent touch. The star of the meal was the homemade pasta topped with brisket bolognaise. The meat was so tender it just melted in your mouth. Every bite of our meal was scrumptious. The bar got busy but Adam never missed a beat. The service was impeccable. We'll definitely go back again and again!
Bad service bad tasting food smh
Over priced the sauce tastes like can terrible on top of that they charged 25.00 for 1 meatball just one solo meatball that’s crazy 3 items my bill was 179.00 one person it’s not worth it please stay away
please don't go overpriced and food is totally over rated
please don't go overpriced and food is totally over rated on top I was given 200.00 gift card which was paid for with cash for a future visit which was today and martoranos had the nerv to say my cash bought gift cards have an expiration date and were NO GOOD is this guy crazy over charges then wants me to pay double . dont go please
Excellent food and service. Ouch with the prices.
It is a cute place in a strip mall. The decor is a bit overdone and cheesy but it grew on me. The service was impeccable, very hands on and Johnny on the spot! The food was also wonderful, but I need to agree with many reviewers who say it is super pricey!
this place is just ridiculous.
the food is amazing , the service is amazing. the owner is nice. this place is a god sent. the food is so good i start to descend into heaven and God is asking me to bring him some food as well. it's very delightful

Been going to Martorano's since 2004 and it is still the best food on planet earth. That is coming from a consummate foodie and Brooklyn girl of 26 years. And aside from the food, Stevie is a great guy and deserves all of the accolades!
Don't Believe The Hype.
Only those that don't know better call this good food. The music etc is a nice touch. As far as rude staff, it's all a reflection on Managment. He not starving for business so it is what it is, but smart money stays away. Typical Brooklyn, Queens, NJ, Boston and Philly wanna be lady's and gents go to show how much more Giido that can be..
Comfort food & Disco.
Classic food. Large portions. DJ /Owner makes food and DJ's. You will be fed well! Menu has photos! waiters show you on ipads! Service is efficient and anticipates what you will need. They have a secret pizza they give you a slice if you are good. you can't order it. Everyone is friendly, wild, and fun. You can eat alot and not get sick. Food is real.
I've been coming here for so long and keep coming back
I've been coming here for so long and keep coming back because of how incredible the food is. Definitely get the meatball salad and eggplant stack to start because those are two of the best appetizers they have. I got the vodka rigatoni with sausage as a main and it was so good. The service is always great here. The ambiance is also fun but I will say it is very noisy and can be hectic so be prepared for loud music and a dark vibe.
Overpriced Menu and Ambience of a bar
A lot of hype and about this place. Could not wait to try it. Food is indeed excellent. My issue is the cost of the plates are ridiculous and way over priced. Many other high quality Italian restaurants provide same menu items at a much more reasonable price with the same same high quality of taste. $32 for grilled octopus, $48 for cavatelli with short rib and $48 for chicken cacciatore is crazy. Everything was very good, but my god, $48 for pasta and chicken. I wanted a glass of wine, but a glass of wine starts over $20 and can go up to $40 or more. Water will do, thank you. Ambience was not what I expected with TV's on the wall playing a movie. Am I at a fine dining restaurant or a bar? Not what I was expecting for a very high end restaurant. I don't mind spending money on a very good meal, but there comes a point where its just stupid. This was it. Go somewhere else and get a great meal where the same high quality dishes are $35 tops.
There is no other place like this The food and atmosphere
There is no other place like this The food and atmosphere can't be duplicated I love this place The best sound system I've heard in a long time It's like NYC sound factory

After reading many of the disappointing reviews, I actually
After reading many of the disappointing reviews, I actually wanted to cancel my reservation! However, when I was told that it was outside of the 24 hour 24 hours grace period, there would have been a $25 per person cancellation fee..so we decided to go. We were pleasantly surprised. The hostess and staff were all very nice and very attentive. I will say though when we ordered two Belvedere martinis we were hit with a $49 bill! Next time I will have a drink at home.. they honored our reservation and we were seated inside. I would probably agree that I would not want outside seating in a parking lot. it was not loud it was pleasant. There was music playing TVs were on and it was a fun place to be. We had the pork special which was delicious. I did not go with the meatball salad. Perhaps that will be for next time, I had spaghetti with clams, which was loaded w clams in the shell, my husband had, the carbonara both delicious we finished with two cappuccinos and a tiramisu. The table next to us was very nice as well, we had very nice conversation. We had a wonderful evening. We will return on our next trip from Philly.
We had a similar experience to many low ratings on this
We had a similar experience to many low ratings on this site. We are from out of town; our friends took us here based on the "celebrity chef" owner name. We know good food and good experience for what you pay for restaurants in this category. Several things stood out for us: 1. We walked in the door and we were told to wait to be seated until everyone arrived. Our friends were simply parking the car in the outside parking lot. They could have seated us, but refused. The attitude of the hostess was much to be desired. 2. We were seated by the kitchen door and bar. We asked for a better table, but they refused. So, the nicer tables were given to others because our friend was parking the car in the parking lot, which forced us to wait while others were seated. Honestly, I think the hostess just had a bad attitude 3. From the minute we sat down, we felt rushed. We were told we only had 90 minutes to finish our meal. The waiter very quickly went over the "specials" but didn't give us the prices. We asked him to give us prices, and, no wonder, their prices were outrageous, eg, the veal "Sinatra" dish special was $70?! Give me a break... 4. We ordered appetizers, and our friends received and ate their appetizers and we were still waiting for ours. By the time our appetizers arrived, they gave us the wrong dish! 5. We complained to the "hostess", and her attitude was "take it or leave it". We proceeded to talk to the owner, the "celebrity chef". He wore a diamond cross necklace, and when we tried to tell him about how terrible our experience had been, he basically said, "tough"! 6. We left the restaurant. We have never experienced anything like this before. It was a restaurant nightmare! Do not eat here! For what you will pay, you will be very disappointed! Plenty of Italian restaurants nearby. And, no wonder, this restaurant only gets a 3star rating..
I make an effort to get to eat here every time I'm down
I make an effort to get to eat here every time I'm down here in Florida. However, this trip I forgot to make a reservation. I needed one for Saturday night for my gf and I. I called and left a voicemail sat morning around 9am and they promptly got back to me within the hour, with a table at 815, prime time!!! As soon as you walk in, the ambience is buzzing, like always, music playing, tv on! Thank you all so much for getting my gf and I in for dinner. The food was tremendous as always, but the thing that really stands out to me, besides the food, is the absolute top notch service. I believe my waiter was Jose, he was so professional, knew the menu, it was a pleasure. See you again, soon.
BEST ITALIAN FOOD IN FLORIDA
Best Italian food in Florida hands down and the vibe is next level. The energy is so incredible and the staff and all who work there are the best. The best service the best vibe the best food. Can’t wait to go back!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!
Worked so well! I was a bit nervous, but everything went very smoothly. purchased the reservation, and got into the restaurant seamlessly.
Love this app!
So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
