Excellent food and service. Ouch with the prices.
It is a cute place in a strip mall. The decor is a bit overdone and cheesy but it grew on me. The service was impeccable, very hands on and Johnny on the spot! The food was also wonderful, but I need to agree with many reviewers who say it is super pricey!
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced Menu and Ambience of a bar
A lot of hype and about this place. Could not wait to try it. Food is indeed excellent. My issue is the cost of the plates are ridiculous and way over priced. Many other high quality Italian restaurants provide same menu items at a much more reasonable price with the same same high quality of taste. $32 for grilled octopus, $48 for cavatelli with short rib and $48 for chicken cacciatore is crazy. Everything was very good, but my god, $48 for pasta and chicken. I wanted a glass of wine, but a glass of wine starts over $20 and can go up to $40 or more. Water will do, thank you. Ambience was not what I expected with TV's on the wall playing a movie. Am I at a fine dining restaurant or a bar? Not what I was expecting for a very high end restaurant. I don't mind spending money on a very good meal, but there comes a point where its just stupid. This was it. Go somewhere else and get a great meal where the same high quality dishes are $35 tops.

I was unsure of what to expect of the atmosphere and food based on Trip Advisor reviews. I was pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere is loud and energized…disco ball lights everywhere, TV’s showing movies, and music. As long as you expect this, you will have a good time. Be prepared to shout if you are with friends! The food was delicious. If you go, get the pizza app. The bread was crusty and cheese plentiful. We were a party of 5 and ate family style. Therefore, we tried many of the dishes. All were excellent. Make sure that you have a reservation…it was packed at 8:45 PM. We will definitely go back for the pizza specifically!

I was really looking forward to this restaurant. Once you get past the fake cheesy Italian accents it’s fairly cute inside. I ordered a fine bottle of wine and then was served. Totally stale bread. They boast on having truly authentic Italian food but then serve a salad drenched in thousand island dressing. :( When I received my eggplant stack, it was very dry. Tasty, but overdone and very dry. I asked the server If he could bring me a side of sauce to make it more palatable. He refused and said if he were to give or sell me a side of sauce, he would be fired. Wow ……. Seriously the food is over done and dry. The person I was dining with ordered veal Parmesan, and also felt that their meal was fairly dry. They asked for a side of sauce and the server refused and said no because they might give some of the sauce to me. It was just insane. They insisted it was company policy and they would be fired. We were blown away. The lack of customer service and inflated ego of this company’s policies are totally ridiculous. I literally just came home from two weeks in Italy. Eating the most fabulous food in Rome and all along the Amalfi coast. All of them put this establishment to shame and they put their patron’s customer satisfaction before ego. The ghetto NY ego here isn’t remotely Italian and totally lacks in quality of food & customer satisfaction Dont bother wasting your time and money here.

Phenomenal spot! Fantastic ambiance and drinks. The food was sooooo yummy. Heads up they say you need a reservation about a month ahead. We showed up 10 mins after they opened and got lucky and got two seats at the bar. Fabulous service! Would return in a heartbeat!!!
Be the first to ReplyRUDE, DISRESPECTFUL AND OVER PRICED! DON'T WASTE YOUR $$$
If I could give this place a negative zero I would. I have NEVER ever been treated with such rudeness and disrespect in my life as I was treated at Cafe Martorano. The server asked me if I wanted regular water or sparkling water and did not mention that the regular water costs $8.50. I ordered fried calamari and got mushy sauteed spicy calamari which was not what I ordered. I asked the waiter to take it back and remove from my bill. The owner's girlfriend ( who by the way is very RUDE) came to our table to tell us she was not going to remove the item from our bill and that we had to pay for it even though they took the plate back. She called the detail cop that stands in front of their door and the bouncer who told us we had to leave and called us obcene names, losers and to never come back all because we sent back a plate that did not look appetizing and was not what we ordered...Fried Calamari is Fried Calamari not sauteed soggy looking Calamari with hot peppers. The staff is rude and disrespectful, they curse you out, SUPER PRICED SMALL PORTIONS. When this happened I asked to cancel my entree order which had not arrived at our table yet and was told I had to pay and could not cancel my order. By the way, the cop was listening to the bouncer calling us all sorts of curse words and did not flinch. This place is shady. Horrible management, service and did I mention super expensive? DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! THIS PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN!!!

I heard about this restaurant and decided to try it. Called for takeout and was told they were not doing takeout that day...what kind of a restaurant doesn't do take out...well one where management must not understand business and volume....even though all these reviews say how rushed they are to get them out....So after calling for a couple weeks one night it was available. They started to take my order and at then end they said there is a 5.00 extra charge and they would be adding and additional 20 gratuity....for take out......all management should be let go and owner should get an education.....will never try this place and recommend you don't either...maybe then they will treat customers with respect...guy must be a jabroni!!!

Great atmosphere. The food and the drinks were great. I just couldn’t hear the waiter over the loudest music ever. Other than that this restaurant was awesome. We had a large group and they tried their best to accommodate us.
Be the first to ReplyI don’t understand the attraction
What a disappointment! I think I got a supreme headache within 10 minutes after being seated. When you can’t speak to your friends at the same table because of the noise level, that’s way over the edge. The food was at best mediocre. The waiter was very nice but come on walk around the table and serve properly and not wedge yourself in with you ass in my face to reach across the table. I truly do not get the attraction as there are much better Italian restaurants around. I will not be back

Sleezy whole in the wall. Food nothing special. Very overpriced. They make you order all your food at once and bring out both apps and entrees together. Not with the money. Very small portions.

The food was good. The server Valentino was a sweetheart. Steve a sweet soul. However, I hate rushing through a meal. We were rushed throughout the entire meal, then told to get up and leave. Literally.

Im François D. First the food is great and delicious.
Second the service is bad very very bad. They push you all the time. The waiter ask me 3 times is im finish my plate in 5 minutes. Very bad attitude.
Also i send an email to the manager to complain never received an answer for her. I dont want a diner or credit only a response WHY is so fast.
We are sitting outside at 18.10pm friday and leave a round 19.30 pm during that time. Drink for me and my wife after appetizer for both and main plate plus bottle of wine.
Waiter bring the bill and he never say a word. Nothing nothing.
So please take care before you go.
But i thing to have fun and have a party time this place is ok.
Not for a relax diner with your love.
Go to le COMPTOIR french restaurant very relax and they take care of you. Believe me.
I Died & Went to SOUTH PHILLY HEAVEN in Ft. Lauderdale
Have you ever wondered what AUTHENTIC South Philly food tastes like-straight out of a Rocky movie? Want to transport yourself to South Philly for a few hours right down to the tall, dark, chiseled Italian waiters with the perfectly combed hair & South Philly dialect (Yo cuz!)? This is the real deal - I am from Philly & dined regularly at such iconic restaurants all my life. The food is straight out of southern Italy with hearty red gravy (never ever call it sauce please). We started with the pizza special of the-4 slice mini-Siciliano with pepperoni. Salad crisp & refreshing. I had the signature meatball ( pure bliss of moist flavorful wonderfullness) with fusilli pasta & my spouse had the special pappardelli with veal ragout. All pasta homemade & South Philly al dente( satisfyingly chewy). Canoli for dessert of course. It doesn’t het any better than this unless you are on 9th St in South Philly!!!!
Mr Martorano was himself cooking in the open kitchen so quality is personal with him.
I recommend outside seating if possible since it can get noisy inside.
Reservations are tight. There is a charge if you are a no show. Tables held for 15 min & you go back in a long waiting list if you miss your window so andiamo!
Unbelievable treatment
We had reservations for 9:30 and arrived at 9:15. We watched as people came in talking to hostess on the side next thing you know people were being seated while we waited! Place was packed and this big dumb bouncer came over to me and said "Are you trying me! You're like a little kid how many times I gotta tell you not to stand here! I sad excuse me who the heck are you talking to like that! I didn't see him talking like that to no one else! So I had to put his big classles person in his place! So now it's 10:30 and we still haven't been seated so we left. Hostesses and manager are straight dont care about nobody unless you are a certain type of entity!.. will never go back!!!! What a shame!
Be the first to ReplySuch a mixed experience
What a difficult experience to review. A meal at Martorano is a roller coaster. To start, the food is fantastic. It is freshly prepared, beautifully served, and tastes delicious.
But the conundrum of the service and experience lapses are such that I can't fathom I will ever return. First, they insist that if you are not there within 15 minutes of your reservation, they will give your table away. Of course, we arrived and were forced to wait 30 minutes to be seated. Then it was another 15 minutes before a waiter arrived at the table. That is something that happens from time to time, so I understand. But a restaurant that understands service would visit the table and apologize or offer a round of drinks while you wait. These folks did neither.
The biggest issue, though, is the noise. I read reviews that said it was loud. I foolishly assumed that meant loud like other busy restaurants. But no, it is loud because the blast nightclub like music out of speakers in the dining room. This is just confusing. There is no dance floor, no standing room bar. You look around and it is just tables eating dinner and people sitting at a bar talking to one another. The music is ridiculously loud. You literally cannot hear the people at your table. They steadfastly refuse to lower the volume at all, as though they think they are being, "hip." It is just bizarre. So, the food is wonderful, but you probably don't want to go. It just isn't worth the goofiness of their mismanagement.
Excellent experience all around - Totally confused on the bad reviews regarding service..
My wife and I went for the first time last night with a couple of friends for dinner. We had read plenty of reviews regarding great food, but we also read many reviews on really bad service... We decided to go anyway due to a very strong recommendation from a good friend of ours.
For us, the food reviews were spot on, but the bad service? Either we lucked out with a great night, or these reviewers are just crazy. The service was excellent, our waiter, Gerardo I believe his name was (looks a bit like John Snow from GOT), was outstanding... couldn't have been better. I also had a moment to meet Steve's wife and she was extremely pleasant and very thankful when I shared with her our great experience.
Everything we had was excellent, starting with the Prosciutto, Fresh Motz and the Marsala Motz (which was to die for). The 4 of us had the Bucatini, the Vodka pasta, veal marsala and we split the gnocchi (probably the best gnocchi any of us had ever had before, and my wife is legit Italian). Then we split 2 deserts (chocolate cake and Tiramisu) which were both delicious, but unfortunately we were so full we couldn't finish them.
Afterwards we hit the bar and the drinks were rock solid, including an espresso martini (or a few...lol) made by one of their awesome bartenders (Dana, I think her name was?) I LOVED the fact that they were playing one of my favorite movies, Casino, in the background. Then, the DJ came out and started pumping solid tracks while we drank. We topped it off with a few shots of Clase Azul Tequila as well, you only live once right?
Overall, truly fantastic experience... again, no idea where these bad reviewers are talking about, this place was spot on and I cannot wait to go again.
Stay Away. A horrible and rude experience.
Stay Away. One of the worst dining experiences I have had. We had reservations for 6 at 7pm. The music in the place was so loud you could not talk or hear the waiter. We were rush from the time we walked in the door. The whole staff was Rude from the start. They don’t care about their customers at all. They are only interested in turning over the tables.
We had to order our in entire meal once. We had no time to even think about a wine to go with the entrees, and the markup was over 4x retail price. I usually see about 2.5x in a nice restaurant. I have had better appetizers at a chain restaurant. The entrees were just ok. Everyone except one person in the group ordered desert. He wanted a drink, and was told he couldn’t have another drink because we needed to leave as soon as we finished desert. A group was waiting for our table.
I would like to have time to relax if we are spending over $300 per couple. There was no tip added to the bill, but when we got our credit card slips, they wrote in a 20% tip. I changed it to 15%, and was extremely pressured to change it back. I did not change it back. I travel over 120 days a year. I have never had such a horrible experience. The person who suggested the restaurant was actually embarrassed. There are too many nice places in Ft Lauderdale to even waist your time or money here.
Horrendous Treatment of Patrons
I don’t even know where to start! I had friends and family fly in from NY and VA to celebrate my 50th Birthday with me. We made a reservation for 15 people way in advance and they required prepayment from us to make our reservation and stressed to us that if we are more than 15 minutes late, they will charge our card and give away our table. Once we were there, we had to wait for 45 minutes past our reservation time for our table to be ready. So, while we were standing around in a strip mall parking lot, we tried to at least get drinks at the bar. The bartender was rude and acted as if we were bothering him. We should have walked out then but instead put it behind us. Once inside, we found the restaurant to be extremely packed with tables one on top of each other. Maximum capacity by law had to be exceeded. We had no problem with the extremely loud music. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we all started to dance in our seats and take pictures. My brother and brother-in-law stood up to take a photo together and my brother must have bumped into the chair behind him where a guy was sitting with his wife and son. The other patron was so annoyed with my brother that he stood up and wanted to fight him???? My brother profusely apologized and offered to buy the guy a drink who refused and continued to threaten him about what he was going to do if anyone bumped his chair again. The owner’s wife, Marsha came over with her “bodyguard” and the bodyguard threatened to throw us out – WTH????? Once everything calmed back down we back to eating. I was in a corner and stood up and started dancing again. The other table’s son started staring at me with a death glare like he was trying to intimidate me I responded by returning the death glare. 2 seconds later the “bodyguard” was back and began cursing at me trying to throw me out!!!!!! I asked the owner’s wife “Marsha” to step outside so I can have a word with her. I explained to her that I was not upset over the other patron but with how her “bodyguard” was behaving inappropriately. She responded with “my husband pays him a lot of money to protect me”. I am still trying to figure out how and when she was threatened! She said as an act of good faith she is sending shots over to our table. Whatever! As I said before we had to prepay $125 pp for dinner and drinks would be added on later. We pre-ordered our food which was supposed to be 3 appetizers, 2 pastas, 2 entrees all family style which it wasn’t. Family style should be trays of food placed on the table for us to eat as we wish. Instead, the waiters put a half of each appetizer on everyone’s plate and at one time spilled food on the back of my brother’s law’s shirt. Then there was a very long gap between that and the next course. The first pasta came out with the entrees and the 2nd pasta (the one with all the fish) never came out. When my husband asked about it, they said they forgot, and they would start working on it. When it finally came out no one wanted it any longer and 2 seconds later (with the seafood pasta still on the table) my cake came out. My cake was a gorgeous pistachio cake with a dozen roses on top of it (which my husband paid an extra $100 for). I started to cry when my family started singing happy bday to me because of this entire botched night in this tough guy, wanna be guido restaurant! 2 seconds later the cake was gone, and I didn’t even get a picture of it. When I asked for the roses, I was told they were thrown out!!!! I went back to talk to Marsha again to say how dissatisfied I am with everything and how terrible it was that nothing was ever said to the other table whose bill could have only been $300 compared to my $3500 bill. I told her about the forgotten food, the spilled food on my guests and the flippant disposal of my roses and asked for a discount on the bill. She said she is sorry that I was unhappy but there was nothing she can do for me. I told her I will never come back here again to which she responded, “oh well”. DO Not go here!!!

There are those restaurants where you go to eat, then go home. There are those restaurants where hype prevails and then in short order, they disappear. Then, there are those restaurants which are passed down through a generation, which become transcendent in a person's life, where walking through the door is as familiar and comfortable as walking into your own kitchen, and where you know the food is going to be so good you'd swear it was your own Italian nonna cooking it for you. I discovered Cafe Martorano (commonly referred to, and now known, as 'Martorano's) over 20 years ago. In that time I have become an admitted 'Super Fan' of owner Stevie "Truck" Martorano. What started off as me trying to emulate his recipes in my own kitchen from scratch developed into a regular study of his two amazing cookbooks (and life stories). We were in Fort Lauderdale for a week and ate here 3 times over the course of 8 days. Like the dozens of times we've eaten here before, there has simply NEVER been a let-down in terms of food, ambience, and service. The food speaks for itself. I am of Italian heritage, and I am not ashamed to say that Steve's food is better than any food my grandmother, my mother, my father, or I could ever cook. This man has taken Italian food to a level that I would argue will never be matched by anyone, anywhere, anytime. Period. Steve comes from a super-unique background, has a super-unique look, and as a result the attitude that prevails inside his restaurant is, too, super-unique. It's not for everyone. It's rough around the edges, but that is what makes it what it is. And I love everything about it. You will see multiple screens showing mob movies, you will hear some of the best music any restaurant will offer, and if you're there past a certain hour you'll see a restaurant turn into a nightclub. On our 3rd and final visit this past week Steve greeted us with a simple, "welcome home." And it was perfect because we were, in fact, home.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible meal at Care Martarano
We've been to Martorano's at Paris several times, and this was our first experience at Cafe Martorano's. Our waiter, Oscar, was fantastic. The food was delicious. We started with the Warm Mozzarella, and were off to the races from there. I had Steve's favorite, the linguini with clams, and the pasta was perfectly al dente and the broth was to die for. My wife had the pasta with meatballs. Both of us loved our dishes, the service, and the atmosphere. Thank you Steve!
Be the first to ReplyLook - the food here is 5-star,
Look - the food here is 5-star, phenomenal. The service is 4 star. The fact that I was pushed out of my reserved table at 1.5 hours into my $600 plus meal is unacceptable (by an unapologetic server, no less). This is the third time this has happened over the last 5 months. Unless this type of rush-through-dinner service changes, I will not be returning to dine here or recommending this restaurant to anyone else. Quite the opposite actually, and I will be letting Yelp, etc. know. This is the third time in nearly 5 years (that I have been eating at this restaurant) that this has happened to me (being rushed through an expensive dinner) and it has become unacceptable. Very disappointed given how expensive this restaurant is. Also, $600 for just 3 people, so everyone knows.
