Please do not go to this trashy place.
They are very racist. The hostess kept talking in Italian language.

I've been wanting to try this DC institution for years, and while it may be slightly overhyped, it was still a nice date night experience (and incredible people watching!). I had a special - Dover sole fillets with fresh fava beans, white asparagus, leek and lemon sauce, and potato napoleon. The fish was perfectly cooked, and all the flavors blended together nicely. The waiter was friendly and attentive, and was knowledgeable about my gluten allergy. Was it overpriced? Yes. But is it an experience to have at least once in DC? Also yes.

During my recent visit to Cafe Milano in Washington, DC, I had the pleasure of indulging in an extraordinary dining experience that left an indelible mark on my memory. From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I was greeted with the warmest hospitality, setting the stage for what was to be a culinary journey of the highest order. The highlight of my meal was undoubtedly the whole Bronzino, a masterpiece of the sea, presented with impeccable finesse. The fish was expertly cleaned and filleted right at the table, a testament to the skilled chefs and their dedication to providing a show as delightful as the dishes they serve. The freshness of the fish, coupled with its delicate flavors, was a revelation, making each bite a moment to savor. But the journey didn't stop there. The handmade Tortellini was, simply put, a revelation. Crafted with precision and care, each tortellini was a bundle of joy that, upon tasting, compelled my eyes to shut automatically, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the intense, flavorful experience. It's rare to find food that can evoke such a visceral, emotional reaction, but Cafe Milano achieved this with ease, showcasing their unparalleled ability to create dishes that not only please the palate but also touch the soul. In every aspect, Cafe Milano stands out as a beacon of culinary excellence. From the attentive service to the exquisite atmosphere and beyond, it's a place where food is not just eaten but celebrated. For anyone looking to treat themselves to an unforgettable dining experience, I wholeheartedly recommend Cafe Milano. It's not just a meal; it's an adventure that delights and surprises at every turn.

Iconic DC restaurant that was given the title of "the ultimate place to see and be seen" from Washington Post (there are many famous people who frequent it). The vibe here is slightly upscale, but it does not feel too stuffy. This being said, the menu is a little on the expensive side (the most glaring being the $25 cocktails). The service here is amazing. They have a doorman, a coat-check (where they literally take off and put on your jacket for you), and staff that consistently check in on you. When I came here with my GF for valentines day they also gave her a rose when we left. The menu is pretty straightforward Italian, but the quality of the food is top-tier. They also have delicious cocktails as well. The space is a little tight, and it therefore gets a little loud inside. My GF also had a bunch of people bump into her throughout the night (including an elbow to the head from a waiter) due to the tight quarters.

Came here for a belated bday celebration for my MIL prior to heading to the Kennedy center for a show. The restaurant is decorated like a classic Italian restaurant. We were seated and asked for sparking or still water, but I'm basic and fine with tap water. Service otherwise was average. There were large gaps by our waiter, possibly because he was taking smoking breaks. We ordered the special appetizer- grilled calamari. It was bland, and mostly had a charred flavor and rubbery texture. For mains we ordered the sea bass, pappardelle and short rib initially. My MIL loved the flakiness of the sea bass and the pappardelle was flavorful. The short rib left a lot to be desired -the potatoes tasted like they came from a box and the meat itself was dry. It seemed like they tried to compensate with putting a lot of sauce over it. A manager noticed (as our waiter was MIA) that I did not really eat it and asked if everything was fine and offered to get me something else. I then had the ravioli and it was amazing. The veal and spinach stuffing were an amazing pairing and the reduction sauce was delicious. Lastly they brought out a birthday cake for the MIL and she enjoyed it. Overall we had a lovely celebration for her, but the service was off and the erroneous billing for bottle water, when perfect tap water was available was annoying. The wine selection and NA drinks were also fine. I would likely order the ravioli to go, but probably not dine-in again.

Restaurant Week Review ($35 per person) First, thank you to the entire staff for making my first-time visit, memorable. From the door to the table, I appreciated them taking the time to get to know me and for making me feel accommodated. Antipasti Selection: Me: Vellutata Di Cavolfiori (Cauliflower Soup) My boyfriend: Moscardini Al Pomodoro (Stewed Octopus) My review: I thoroughly enjoyed the soup, it was simply delicious. Well seasoned, perfect for the weather, and good to the last drop. My boyfriend didn't enjoy his stewed octopus and after a few bites, neither did I. The tomato stew didn't do much for the octopus and it threw the flavor off. Entree: Me: Costine Di Manzo Braste (Braised Angus Beef) My boyfriend: Orata Del Mediterraneo (Mediterranean Dorade Filet) My review: ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!!! The beef was so tender and the mashed potatoes and carrots were divine! All of the flavors complimented each other well and I was thoroughly pleased from start to finish. My boyfriend: let's just say that he raved about this dish the entire day and after a few bites, I knew why. The fish was crispy on the outside and buttery soft on the inside. Paired with a delicious lemon sauce, you couldn't help but savor the moment with each bite. Both dishes were EXTRAORDINARY!!!! Dolci: My dessert: Torta Di Carote (carrot almond cake) My boyfriend: Panna Cotta Al Frutti Di Bosco (Berry and Vanilla Panna Cotta) I didn't enjoy my dessert because it was dry and my boyfriend didn't enjoy his dessert because it felt complicated to eat. Sadly, after an amazing entree and my scrumptious starter, we hoped to have ended the meal with a delicious dessert but this wasn't the case. Overall, I can see myself visiting this restaurant outside of Restaurant Week because not only is it beautiful but, so was the service offered by the staff! The food had a few misses but the entrees set everything right! Those meals were everything that I dream of and it made me a true believer of Cafe Milano. Bravo! Bravo! For a job well done.
Be the first to ReplyFirst, I must say, call well in advance for a reservation
First, I must say, call well in advance for a reservation if you are from out of town. I say this because this establishment is a local favorite that is frequented by the DC crowd and has regulars. However, it is well worth the wait! It is a very quant restaurant in a very beautiful, very historic area of DC. Parking can be tricky, so I highly advise utilization of their fantastic valets or use a ride share service. The restaurant staff is very friendly and accommodating, and their attention to detail is top notch. They have beautiful bar, and the layout of the restaurant is close and intimate, but not overbearing; there is outside seating available as well. My date and I were very impressed with the menu. Even though it leans towards Mediterranean fare, you will find that there is something on the menu for everyone. We very much enjoyed the octopus and caviar. Fish and steak were excellent. Great cocktail and wine selections too. If you are in the area on business or casually strolling through the area, it is definitely a great establishment to try!

I took my mother and I for lunch during restaurant week, and we had a pleasant time. The cauliflower soup was tasty, and I very much enjoyed the short rib. The panna cotta wasn't up to my standard texture wise but still tasted great. The service wasn't bad, but the server felt a little awkward. Also there was a group of middle aged men just staring at us the whole time across the room and that made me feel uncomfortable, but that's not the restaurants fault.
Be the first to ReplyRidiculously overpriced.
The food is bland. A lot of staff, but no waiter helping you personally, it's just whomever happens to be passing by your table. The wine is very expensive but, if you order a glass, they don't bring the bottle to you, so there's no way of knowing what they brought you. The music is deafening. The bathrooms are horribly filthy.
Be the first to ReplyYou have not experienced fine dining until you have eaten
You have not experienced fine dining until you have eaten at Cafe Milano. From the moment you walk in, you know are in for a treat. We were escorted to our table in the back and it was the cutest nook in the whole place. They had it decorated so nicely and the digital fireplace was such a nice treat. Gary was our server and when I tell you this man spoiled us! We got the full experience, he brought us our appetizers and nicely replated them on our personal plates. He even showed us an elegant way to use a fork and spoon to pick up food! We got the beet salad and eggplant Parmesan for appetizers 10/10 the beets had such an amazing flavor, not too earthy or vinegary. I got the vegetable lasagna. Not the vegetables I would have chosen for a vegetable lasagna. It was mainly peppers and onions. I would have liked if it had more heart vegetables like zucchini, carrots even chopped broccoli or cauliflower. The flavor was delicious For dessert we did the panna cotta with the berry compote. I would go back just for this dessert! So creamy and the berry was just the right amount The carrot cake was a little too dry for my liking.

Consistently excellent food -- and service that can't be beat. You feel welcome the minute you walk in the door.
Be the first to ReplyOverall the experience was dissapointing.
We saw our server 3 times: once voluntarily to take our order (25 minutes after we had sat down) and then twice after some persistent flagging for parmesan and the bill. My boyfriend and I are younger and it definitely seemed like she was avoiding us in favor of her other tables. I'm a server myself and thus am usually very understanding to fellow industry workers...but this experience was actually awful. I would expect much better hospitality for the price point. The food was okay. A little bland and the presentation was bad. The pasta pictured is exactly how it came to me- I didn't move it an inch.I wish I liked it! I had high hopes for Valentine's Day.

A recent trip east to celebrate a very special milestone, Cafe Milano in the beating heart of Georgetown in the Placido Domingo room was exquisite.Everything served and attentive care given by the chef and team were exemplary. Our private dinner of 20 adults and 7 children was outstanding.Thank you for everything, I look forward to future dining and celebrations!
Be the first to ReplyWe went on a Sunday evening after 5pm.
There were 9 of us in our party, and we didn't have too long a wait (maybe 15-20 minutes). We were kindly seated and our full party hadn't even arrived. I think our waitress was Ansley (?) and she quickly got to taking our drink & appetizer orders evn though she had another large party she was helping. She kept a smile the entire time despite our many questions. Several in our party had never been to Milano's and wanted small substitutions which could have started to be an irritation for her, but she handled all requests with ease and a smile. For appetizers, we had crab-stuffed mushrooms (5 stars), fried calamari (only 2 stars, as the breading/batter was heavier than I've had here in the past), and fried artichokes (5 stars). Several of us ordered lasagna, one ordered pork chops (cooked a little dry), and one ordered steak marsala. Everyone was pleased with their meal. Some got Caesar salads, while others got the House salad. The house salad is the ABSOLUTE BEST here! We did not get desserts. Overall, the experience was fantastic, and I recommend you look for Ansley (I hope that's her name because she was GREAT) when you go.
Be the first to ReplyI was very wary about writing this review but the last time
I was very wary about writing this review but the last time I dine at Cafe Milano left a very sour taste in my mouth. First off, I have come here several times before the pandemic but I guess they have change their staff. My friend and I sat at the bar before having dinner at our table. The bartender was very off putting I think his name was Juan Carlos he was very short with us almost rude. He started talking in Spanish with his other coworker saying things about us like we couldn't understand him. He made us feel like he was doing us a favor taking care of us. We let it go because we didn't want to make a big deal about the situation.

Be the first to ReplyThe 17 dollar salad was a bowl of crunchy vegetables
The 17 dollar salad was a bowl of crunchy vegetables dressed with a little bit of olive oil. For 17 dollars at a "fancy" place I expect it to at least have fresh veggies in it, at most - to be an original recipe, not just a bunch of celery. The entrees we had were Pappardelle Prada and Capellini Ann Hand. The first one was unflavored, it is supposed to come with truffle, but I did not taste even a bit of it. This reminded me of camping food, not fine Italian dining at all. The Capellini just tasted like cheap store bought noodles with canned tomato sauce. The noodles were not cooked all the way, not al dente - just uncooked. The whole dinner was overpriced, we did not even stay for a dessert not to ruin the night completely. The waiters were so inattentive, despite being everywhere. It seems like they had three waiters for a table working there, but none of them asked if we liked the food even once. They also picked up my wine glass without suggesting another one. The atmosphere is not welcoming at all - it was so loud it was impossible to hear each other talk. The only star I am giving is for the hosts - they greeted us warmly, took our coats, and helped me get into mine at the end of the night. If you are looking for good food, high quality service and warm atmosphere, check out the places next door. Never coming back.
Be the first to ReplyIf you know, you know that this place is quite special
If you know, you know that this place is quite special because of its VIP clientele with political clout and people watching. This fame comes with a sense of intimidation, combined with quite negative reviews on snobby attitude. Yes, of course this place is not cheap nor casual. We chose Cafe Milano for our anniversary and we were in company of well-dressed parties. However, I did also notice very casual people around the bar area, too. From checking in to leaving, we got very friendly service and a nice cake for our anniversary. The food did not disappoint with the veal ravioli and chop, their speciality. It will not be my go-to Italian. Within DC standards, I am surprised to say that I found the prices quite reasonable as well. It is pretty old school, Georgetown feel that would be still good at their 30th year as a DC institution to take guests and enjoy for special occasions to bring yourself to a taste of Italy.

(Disclaimer, I dined here a few months ago but never finished my post). Really 2.5 stars for ambiance but otherwise not worth the hype. This place rests on its laurels and a lot of its success is probably due to its location. Service was ok, you definitely get the feeling they are sizing up guests for importance/money. Food is average, honestly I've had better cooked pasta/pizza at Olive Garden. The salads/appetizers were the highlight, main dishes left us all disappointed. One and done, too many restaurants in DC to repeat a mediocre pricey meal.
Be the first to ReplyCafe Milano is lovely.
The restaurant has a bar area. It is small and nice. The upstairs event space can comfortably sit about 70 people. There is a private bar too. Parking is limited. We were able to find parking in a nearby neighborhood.
