Not cooked as I asked for…twice
Lovely outdoor patio. I specifically asked for my salmon to be cooked “very, very well done. When it arrived, It was rare inside. I sent it back and reiterated I wanted it cooked “very, very well done. When it was served a second time, it was still pale pink/orange inside and certainly not even well done. The waitress never came to ask if it was cooked to My satisfaction nor were our water glasses refilled. We were the only diners on patio (another couple came right before we left) and there was maybe one table occupied inside. Very slow service. We left restaurant at 7:15 pm on a Friday night.and it was empty.

Three generations gathered for a delicious meal of antipasti and pasta. Simple but perfectly prepared. The weather was rainy, so we skipped the lovely patio and dined inside in a small quiet dining room with walls covering art. Much quieter than other local restaurants, we enjoyed a calm conversation. Delightful food in a lovely setting!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Farm to Table Italian Restaurant
Myself and a business colleague found Caffe Riace by chance as we were looking for a Italian restaurant near our last meeting. We wanted to wait out the heavy traffic before heading to our hotel in SF. Nick greeted us and we sat in the incredible courtyard with fountains and candles. He gave us a history of the restaurant, the founder being from Sicily and using her family recipes. Her sons now run the business. They have a farm near San Jose and the produce is sourced from there. We were able to get explanations of entrees on the menu and recommendations. My colleague and I split the tomato and mozzarella salad with balsamic reduction and basil. Incredible taste! We both had the Lasagna. You could tell the sauce was made with farm fresh tomatoes. It was excellent. The atmosphere was quiet with the fountains in the background. All the wait staff were friendly and efficient. We were from out of state, but if I'm back in the area, I would go out of my way to eat here again.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic service, looked after our group of 35 perfectly!
We had a business dinner of 35 people at Caffe Riace and couldnt of had a better experience. The atmosphere of the courtyard was wonderful and made a nice change as aposed to being indoors.
The staff were all so friendly, continously checked in on all of our guests and took our orders quickly and effciently. The food came out all at the same time which is much appreciated- when looking after a big group. All food was well cooked- Steak was great!
All guests commented on a good choice for a formal group dinner and overall we couldnt of asked for a better night- everything was easy from start to finish, Thank you Caffe Riace!
Excellent food and great outdoor seating
We were there this last Saturday and made reservations for 7 for dinner (it was early, 5 pm). We got seated right away, near the fountain outside which was a bit loud, but the atmosphere was pleasant and the seating comfortable. We ordered the octopus carpaccio and the fritto misto. The carpaccio was AMAZING!! I would never have thought it would taste so tender and mild. I would order that again for sure. The calamari was nice, tender and the batter was very light. We ordered the specialty salad which was cantaloupe, tomatoes, mozzarella, and figs with this delicious dressing. It was excellent.
For dinner I ordered the Cavacelli with sausage and broccoli and was not disappointed, it was really very good! The pasta is clearly homemade and the sauce was a tad spicy and very tasty. Others ordered the Bucatini Carbonara (it was very good), Parppadella ragu (good), Carrettiera cacio e pepe (not what he expected but it was good), and the Cannelloni alla mama (excellent).
The bread they serve at the beginning is also clearly homemade and was wonderful. All in all a great experience and we will be back.
Nice outdoor seating
Visited this place for lunch. I loved the ambiance because we sat outside on a beautiful warm day. There is a beautiful fountain and some nice statues (huge). There are nice trees and t around the place. I have to say I wasn't that impressed with the ravioli I ordered. It was just okay. Wasn't as well seasoned as I have would liked it to be. My co-workers though did enjoy their dishes. We ordered tiramisu and canoli for desert. The tiramisu was delicious. The canoli was okay.
Service was okay. Not as attentive as I would have expected it to be at a restaurant of this caliber.
late dinner
We had a late dinner here on a Saturday night. It was a lovely night to sit outside and eat. And that's the time you should come to Riacci--most tables are outside with a lovely fountain of a naked woman holding up a washing machine!!
We ordered capellini, meatballs and bucatini, and pollo marsala. Everything tasted wonderful! Everyone was happy with their choices. We all shared the MAGNIFICENT Tiramisu, made by the owner's wife. It was divine. As is the bread!
There seemed to be 3 servers and the owner working. The host also served. Service wasn't bad, but it wasn't quick. I still love the place. We're keeping this on our list of go-tos.
Great plave
Outdoor seating in a lovely open area with a fountain. Nice selection of entrees. We thoroughly enjoy our meals of fish and pasta. Salads were also excellent. Very relaxing and a great place to dine and catch up with friends.
Be the first to ReplyLovely Southern Italian cuisine with patio dining
Enjoyable outdoor ( and indoor) dining. Delicious authentic Southern Italian food. Everything is fresh and perfectly seasoned. The canneloni is to die for. The bruschetta is fresh and taste like summer in Italy.

Lovely ambience inside & outside of this restaurant but Disappointed with our dinner! We were looking forward to a delicious Italian dinner... but not this visit! Our Caesar salad as a bit "lemony" and on the small side. My chicken parm was "kinda" warm plus the pasta was cold! Sauce was cold too.
Our servers were prompt to serve and attend our table of 4....but there was only another couple in the rest of the restaurant. $17 for a glass of Chardonary was a bit overpriced. Will we return...me thinks not.
Underrated Italian restaurant
We have been to this restaurant many times over the years and have never had a bad meal or poor service. The food is more authentic Italian (probably Sicilian) than other local restaurants serving Italian food. The food was delicious from the flatbread through the chocolate/hazelnut gelato. We had a shrimp and calamari dish with a perfect olive/tomato sauce and a grilled fresh fish of the day. These were accompanied by a few slices of fried potatoes and well-flavored grilled vegetables. Surprisingly the excellent fish dish, whose price was not listed on the menu, was only $20. While the indoor seating holds only 25, the outdoor patio is spacious and inviting, and a restful place of calm on a nice afternoon or evening. The restaurant is a few blocks from California Avenue, but well worth the side trip.
