The food is great and the service is even better.
We like the breakfast place specially as it offered Indian breakfast as well. The regular restaurant is always busy and takes ever to serve the food. They were clearly short staffed.

Great service, fantastic food. Bring back the chicken sandwich! Love the ambience too, nestled away from the bustle above.

The bar was a nice area though, and the bartenders and people were even nicer.

I stopped in here because they offered Indian food, which I really like. I had a vodka martini with the Indian chicken dish, and a side of Brussel sprouts. Was really good. The dish had just a hint of spice, which worked out well! I would definitely stop by here again.

They have a nearby parking garage which is the cleanest I've ever seen, especially for SF. Got to the room and it was fine nothing great nothing bad either. I had dinner at the restaurant and while the menu was a little outdated, the preparation was perfect. I had the NY steak that was served with fries and a salad. Great service from the bartender. In the morning I also visited the restaurant and the breakfast menu was really enticing. A nice mix of Indian and American dishes. I had the Desi omelette which was amazing! The restaurant seemed very understaffed unfortunately but that is that state of the industry these days so not fault to them. Overall a nice above average place to stay.

The Bistro was our special place for over a decade. We used to recommend it extensively and have taken many friends and family to dine there. After my husband had lunch at the Bistro bar on one occasion, and then we both last dined at the Bistro for lunch a few months ago, we won't be going back--ever. This is not the same place. First, I called the restaurant manager to explain there was a dearth of the Bistro's typical mid range wines available by the glass or bottle, meaning between $45 and $70 dollars. The available wine choices by the glass or the bottle ruined our meal, both times. I explained to the restaurant manager that I had given this feedback to the waiter on our last visit, who said he would pass it on to the manager. The restaurant manager's response was it was a business decision and that bottles $80ish and above was the new order of things, and that I could always order a cocktail. $90 for a bottle of wine for a hamburger or other similar lunch choices seems a bit much. As a long time customer, I was extremely concerned, especially with the lack of customer focus of the restaurant manager. When I urged the Restaurant Manager to embrace my feedback, he concluded our conversation by saying, it was fine for me to dine at other San Francisco restaurants. When I then called the manager on duty, she said she would have the General Manager call me. He never called me. Second, there was the food. The skin on my grilled salmon was so salty, I could not eat it. I did not give this feedback to the waiter because we were hoping the Bistro could work out the kinks by the time of our next visit. But my conversation with the Restaurant Manager precluded a next visit, or any other future visit, including a stay at the hotel. Also, I'm skeptical that my feedback on the salmon would have been well received by the restaurant manager. This is quite sad because we often dined at the Bistro when we visited San Francisco.

We are so lucky that the hotel had a chef's special menu for the night we were staying at the TAj. This was no doubt the best chicken korma and malabar parantha i ever had!!! Soooo good. The curry leaves and the tadka at the top was soul satisfying!!!!! The chef Mr. George was so humble and nice to talk to. We also had prawns for appetizer- again AMAZING! Being food lovers, eating here was the highlight of our trip! We obviously took extra malabar paranthas because they were perfectly cooked and complimented the korma so well. Ended with mango mousse which was heavenly so we ordered twice Thanks Chef!!! We slept like babies that night after such a happy meal!!!

Good food and service. I was thinking maybe a bit overpriced, however after an entire day in a work seminar just across the street, I was hungry... and this wasn't just the closest restaurant (just across the street from the Grand Hyatt) but it was also the closest two Michelin star restaurant.

Campton place offers mind-bending presentations of Cal-Indian cuisine. The service is commensurate with what one would expect from a restaurant with two Michelin stars while the dishes are small and delicate.we now go to there bar area very often with small appetizer plates on other side of restaurant.Amazing team work and presentation. Highly recommended to everyone!!

I just wrote a review for the Taj Campton Place, which I stayed at last night. ย This review is for the food/restaurant. ย Although the restaurant proper is currently closed, you can order food at the bar and via room service. ย On Saturday night I debated on what to have but settled on the Chicken Curry. ย The presentation was awesome and the quality and flavor was outstanding. This morning I ordered the Poha via room service and what a treat it was. ย I'd never had Poha before and am so glad that I made the choice. I'm a fan of the food here and will look forward to going to the bar (which is awesome) and having some more food there in the future.
Be the first to ReplyOne of my favorite restaurant experiences.
Every course was exquisite, interesting, and full of flavor. The wait staff were the best I've ever seen and anticipated everything we needed. If you were to breathe in to sneeze, there would be a waiter there handing you a tissue before you could even finish. Other restaurants should take note.

5/10Chose this restaurant for my birthday celebration. I would expect most of the main courses to be 8/10 for $167 set menu per person. However most of the dishes missed something. Their desserts were all delicious though, don't miss their sorbets! For this price range I would go to Gary Danko for the food and ambience. Bread: 8.5/10 OMG I LOVE their bread! It was so soft and so delicious with the butter! I wish I can eat this everyday!Dark Chocolate: 8/10Cheese Cremeux: 8/10Guinea Hen: 8/10Black Cod: 7.5/10Poached Lobster: 7.5/10Spice Pot: 7/10Day Boat Scallop: 7/10
Be the first to ReplyMy wife & I celebrated our milestone anniversary here.
I was a bit nervous about how this would turn out -- given we were vegetarians (the menu was loaded with non-veg options) and I am suspect of fusion food that lacks authenticity of a pure cuisine. My wife was pretty sure it would rock -- "How can it not? Taj hai, yaar!". Boy, were my fears beyond unfounded! This was likely the best restaurant food I have had in my life. It is wrongly advertised as a 4-course meal. They had many interim courses -- the first course starts after 4 mini-courses of finger food! Even though we ate a *lot*, we didn't feel stuffed. This was the most memorable dinner we could have had for an anniversary. And yes, we flew nearly a thousand miles for this dinner... Wah Taj!

Be the first to Replyhad reservations here for valentines day.
only thing that i did not like was that we had felt a bit rushed. When me and my partner were not even done with the first dish, the second dish had came out and immediately after the first dish was finished they took away that dish and had brought out the third dish... so i had two dishes in front of me each time. Then whats the point of fine dining and for them to be providing 'attentive' service. Also, when my partner was halfway thru her lamb dish, the server asked if she wanted a box??? No sir, she would like to finish her dish for crying out loud. I've been to quite a few michelin star restaurants and their services were impeccable so thats where I was a bit disappointed during my visit. ย I even had to ask the waiter to crumble my table a few times. Other than this issue mentioned above, food was good. We ended up getting the set menu with a bottle of wine. My favorite was the lamb 5/5. Every other dish was about 3-4/5.
Be the first to ReplyThis is truly a well deserved Michelin 2 star fusion
This is truly a well deserved Michelin 2 star fusion delight. The service is impeccable. The only oddity was them hawking vintage champagne for $75 per glass. The champagne was amazing but for a classy restaurant, they should not have a price screaming in a cart. Amuse bouche around five of them were all epitome of fusion art and stellar presentation. The wine pairing is worth it as the eclectic mix pairs really well with various courses. The 10g truffle loaded Chefs rendition of Indian bread is just out of this world. The lamb was a visual stunner and melts in the mouth. superbly crafted and presented, every course is a reflection of Chef Gopinaths mastery. This is truly an experience of Indian and cal fusion that's a gift to the global stage. Not recommended for Indians who look for bulk loads of curry. This is for palate that craves heavenly delights.

If you have been on a vacation and spent $$$ then this is for you - an experience un paralleled right here in the Bay Area. Don't think twice before taking a loved one on an extra special occasion. The experience is truly magical. It's not food - it's an art.
