The Bistro was our special place for over a decade. We used to recommend it extensively and have taken many friends and family to dine there. After my husband had lunch at the Bistro bar on one occasion, and then we both last dined at the Bistro for lunch a few months ago, we won't be going back--ever. This is not the same place. First, I called the restaurant manager to explain there was a dearth of the Bistro's typical mid range wines available by the glass or bottle, meaning between $45 and $70 dollars. The available wine choices by the glass or the bottle ruined our meal, both times. I explained to the restaurant manager that I had given this feedback to the waiter on our last visit, who said he would pass it on to the manager. The restaurant manager's response was it was a business decision and that bottles $80ish and above was the new order of things, and that I could always order a cocktail. $90 for a bottle of wine for a hamburger or other similar lunch choices seems a bit much. As a long time customer, I was extremely concerned, especially with the lack of customer focus of the restaurant manager. When I urged the Restaurant Manager to embrace my feedback, he concluded our conversation by saying, it was fine for me to dine at other San Francisco restaurants. When I then called the manager on duty, she said she would have the General Manager call me. He never called me. Second, there was the food. The skin on my grilled salmon was so salty, I could not eat it. I did not give this feedback to the waiter because we were hoping the Bistro could work out the kinks by the time of our next visit. But my conversation with the Restaurant Manager precluded a next visit, or any other future visit, including a stay at the hotel. Also, I'm skeptical that my feedback on the salmon would have been well received by the restaurant manager. This is quite sad because we often dined at the Bistro when we visited San Francisco.
