Not only is this great food but it was a very nice experience and I would say a Top Five dining experience of all-time. Outstanding service, also. I was here with some coworkers and I think we tried everything – make sure you fast or something before you come to make sure you have room for all of the excellent dishes!Be the first to Reply
Old School Experience
Arrived for Sunday lunch and staff was very attentive. The décor is reminiscent of an old school Italian Restaurant and the music was great. Our Captain was very friendly and he just happened to be from Staten Island too. First we had their complimentary apps, cheese, salami, etc. and then we ordered the Caesar Salad Zee Zee and forgot to order the meatballs. We weren’t impressed with the salad nor the croutons. The romaine was a little wilted and not as fresh as it should be. Next we had the lobster ravioli and the spicy rigatoni which were both excellent. We heard so much about the Veal Parm, we just had to order it. It was delicious but $89 for a piece of veal parm is ridiculous and we definitely would not order it again. I think the spicy rigatoni was our favorite dish. Dessert was mixed berries with cream which was also good but overpriced. We enjoyed the experience and satisfied our curiosity.Be the first to Reply
Impeccable service extremely attentive. We shared the lasagna family style. It was truly an experience to remember.Be the first to Reply
The front of house hostess was so rude and condescending that on that basis alone, I would not recommend this restaurant. On entering the restaurant, I smiled and greeted her: she made no attempt to smile in return nor greet me, but abruptly asked my name. It didn’t start well and it ended worse. My husband’s friend had made the booking for us as we were visiting from the UK. Traffic was apparently bad when we left our hotel and, despite the fact we’d allowed extra time, our driver advised we would be 5 minutes late for our booking. Throughout the entire journey, either the traffic got worse or the driver took steps to take quicker routes which were actually slower: we don’t live in NY, we don’t know, but it took us nearly an hour to get from midtown. Throughout the journey we attempted to contact the restaurant to advise them of the situation. There is no phone number on their website. The driver eventually managed to get hold of a number for us from somewhere and we rang it, only to receive a recorded message with an email address to contact regarding bookings/cancellations/confirmations. So we sent an email. However, quite clearly nobody checks the email until the following day (that’s when we finally received a response anyway). When we arrived late, apologised and advised the hostess/front of house of the situation, we were actually scolded by her (my 11-year old son afterwards said it was like his teacher would speak to him if he were late for a lesson) and told they had already reallocated our table (we’re not sure how they managed to reach someone who could get to the table within the 20 minute that we were late …..) We explained that we’d tried to call, explained that we’d emailed, explained that we were from overseas. With a huff and a sigh, she told us to wait at the bar (which has no seating) while she saw what she could do. Around 30 minutes later, we had not been updated and my daughter was starting to feel faint. My husband politely approached the front desk again to find out what was happening. Eventually someone different came over and said (more politely than the original hostess, to be fair) that there was nothing they could offer us before 10:30pm. With a 13 and 11 year old, and a 3-hour wait, we had no choice but to leave and wander around an area we didn’t know, a long drive from our hotel and try to find somewhere else to eat. Our issue is not necessarily that the table couldn’t be held, but the fact they make it impossible to let them know if you’re running unavoidably late and then treat you with such unnecessary haughty contempt. As I said, even before the hostess was aware of the situation, her manner was unfriendly and unwelcoming so the ‘vibe’ was bad from the outset, and totally unlike any of the other restaurants we ate in during our time in NYC where the service was always excellent. We’ve been fortunate enough to eat in many high-end restaurants in London and other cities, and we’ve never experienced anything even close to this. It was the evening we’d all really looked forward to on our whole trip and it was spoiled not only by the circumstances outside of our control, but by the way it was managed by the restaurant.Be the first to Reply
This place is really phenomenal. Extremely nice athmosphere, you feel like beeing in New York in the 40s or 50s. And the food is very good as well. We had a lovely time and really enjoyed every minute at Carbone👌🙏Be the first to Reply
The Food was good - Waiter a 7.5
We had a good time at Carbone for lunch. It is a status symbol and nice to go. We went for lunch and honestly very overpriced. The food was good . The atmosphere was something out of a movie. The waiters and captains were very attentive. Didn't really appreciate some of the humor of one of the waiters. Very difficult process to get a reservation, try to get one and go to the experience. I think I'm good in future. Perhaps a dinner next time. I would try one of the other locations in future.Be the first to Reply
Worth the wait!
Had high hopes after a lot of back and forth booking a reservation last minute and it did not disappoint. If only we could eat more because I def want to try everything on the menu. The spicy rigatoni was amazing (not very spicy) and perfectly al dente. Lobster fra diavolo was delicious and fresh (again not too spicy). Potato louie were crispy from the duck fat. The carpaccio with the addition of fresh porcini shaved on top was 1 of the best things ever. Next time I'd skip dessert and eat more pasta! A great place to go with a group so you can try a bit of everything. Service was attentive without being over bearing. I didn't find anyone to have an attitude.Be the first to Reply
Absolutely my favorite restaurant in Manhattan! The wonderful experience starts with the waiters (*captains*) who are super attentive and helpful, and all the people who works there are extremely friendly and attentive. They start by serving you a basket of delicious breads, salami, pickled cauliflower and a hunk of Parmigiano Reggiano, all very tasty and courtesy of the house. As appetizers, the best in my opinion are Prosciutto & Mozzarella, Carpaccio Piemontese and Caeser alla ZZ, which they prepare at the side of the table and the croutons and sauce are the best I've ever tasted. The Tortellini al Ragu is absolutely my favorite dish in town, I order it every time, but the Lobster Ravioli and Spicy Rigatoni Vodka along with Veal Parmesan are also a great choice. For dessert you MUST try the carrot cake, I'm not a big fan of carrot cake, but the one they make is inexplicable, I haven't had such a good dessert in a while. The lemon cheesecake also tastes amazing, I used to order it all the time, but the carrot cake has now won my heart! Everything they serve is very tasty, which for me is the difference between most of other restaurants where the food is very bland for my brazilian taste. And that's what makes me like Carbone so much, not to mention the service again, of course, because being treated with attention is something difficult in this city where everyone always seems to be in a hurry. I'll be coming back again and again and again!!! Reservations are made through Resy a month in advance, they are available at exactly 10 am and are gone in a matter of seconds, be quick!Be the first to Reply
Overpriced and overhyped
We were expecting an amazing experience, but didn’t really receive that. We ordered 11 dishes and shared as a group of four so we all got to taste everything. There were a few items that were really good, the spicy rigatoni, clams, lobster ravioli. However the rib eye was mediocre at best, I’ve had better at your basic $30 steakhouse and for it to be over $100 is pretty wild. The tiramisu was also the worst one I’ve ever had. No one had more than a bite, I couldn’t recommend not getting it anymore. The service was decent overall, but as some others have said, there was a smugness about the ones we interacted with. Overall it was still a pretty good time, especially if you like oldies because they were playing that all night, but I don’t think we’ll be back, especially with how hard it was to get in.Be the first to Reply
Excellent cuisine and service
Yes, it is true that obtaining a reservation is quite an accomplishment. The restaurant is unassuming from outside and very basic decor inside. It exudes an old Italian charm that reminded us of our trips to Italy. Our server, who was actually from Mexico, was very personable, very attentive and the perfect server. We ordered the Mario's meatballs and they were superb. I have to admit that the oysters posillipo was not a favorite...have to give a nod to those large flavorful oysters that we eat in New Orleans. My daughter thought the spicy rigatoni vodka was wonderful. I am from the Midwest so I am very particular about steak and how it is prepared. My ribeye Diana was tender, packed with flavor and done to perfection. Carbone's has a line of spaghetti sauces that can be purchased in higher end grocery stores across the United States. I found the sauce in California and when I returned home I was able to buy them in Minnesota. The store bought sauces were wonderful and under $10 per jar.Be the first to Reply
We have been here a few times over the years and it’s always been solid. Atmosphere, drinks, music all work with a old school vibe. Service is also excellent without attitude. This time we had the prime rib which was awesome and the tortellini which was good. However the mozzarella was a bit chewy and the carrot cake was too ginger. Overall not sure I would rush back for the hassle of the reservation and the cost but if you haven’t been you have to try it once.Be the first to Reply
Great food. If possible, even better service
I've been in the hospitality business for over 40 years and understand the challenges. Regardless, I always have great expectations when visiting Carbone. Once again, Carbone exceeded those expectations.Wonderful food. Great service. This is one restaurant that always delivers. Looking forward to our next visit.Be the first to Reply
An amazing dinner
An amazing place to eat. Great vibe. Carmine our server is hell of a guy. The way he describes each dish is quite something. The delicate flavours were all bang on. From their Oysters to Ribye to Branzino were out of this world. One of the best food I have had.Be the first to Reply
Disappointing food, awful service
My partner and I were really excited for our meal here, given the tsunami of hype and how difficult it is to get a table. The prices mean it's something of a special occasion if you aren't high earners. We left incredibly disappointed for a number of reasons. In short, mediocre food and rude service. If you've had good pasta before and are looking for something of that standard, this is not the place for you. More:
1. Ignoring the price, the food was a mixture of good and average. Taking the price into account, it was dreadful. I suspect Carbone has a superficial notion of what "fancy" pasta should look like, but lacks the expertise or incentives to really execute it. Granted, the bread+mozzarella and vodka rigatoni were great, if not exactly the hardest dishes to execute, but we found our other starter, the eggplant and zucchini scapece, really acidic with little balance. Why so much vinegar?! The worst was the $42 lobster ravioli. The ravioli parcels had a texture recalling the experience of eating liquorice, and the lobster filling was fishy and similarly chewy. The sauce was reasonably good but that's because butter tastes nice.
2. On mentioning (really, really politely!) that the ravioli was disappointing, our waiter ignored the feedback, walked back into the kitchen and got our bill. We were both really surprised. I don't know if this is their general standard of service or if it's because we're a young couple, but either way I think restaurants ought to treat polite customers respectfully.
3. There were tons of free tables. We think the restaurant is falsely advertising how heavily booked it is in order to inflate the hype bubble that is clearly maintaining its popularity. It works though - we bought it!
Absolutely avoid. This is a restaurant riding a wave of reputation that I think it no longer deserves.
If you let the servers guide you , it’s best because they know what they do best ,some of the dishes were really great some of the dishes were just above average but still worth a visit for all their signature dishes, only problem is servers have a little bit of an attitudeBe the first to Reply

The best Italian Fine Dining experience!
Beyond amazing experience! It started being amazing the minute we arrived... the music is lively, the bread and appetizers are amazing.... the spicy ragú rigatoni a la vodka was honestly better than what I have tried in Italy! Everything was really amazing, topped with some aprerol spritz and cheesecake! Kuddos to Daniel for such an amazing experience!Be the first to Reply

The best lobster ravioli!!
We had a party of 5. All main course dishes were great. Lobster ravioli was exceptional! However, Caesar salad was just ok. I gave 5-star review anyway as the service was polite and super friendly.Be the first to Reply
Lovely, with a side of mystery meatballs
A lovely time on the patio yesterday- The details in here are evident- decor, waitstaff, crisp linens, china, professional staff, etc. Fresh, quality ingredients are also on the forefront.
The mystery lies in the meatballs. My daughter (age 9) and I ordered a variety of items- one of which were the meatballs specifically for her. They arrived nicely presented, but when she cut into them, completely raw. I politely inquired if they were intended to be rare, to which an equally polite and professional "well, they are beef, veal, and pork" was replied. <insert puzzled look, as that didn't answer the question/ground pork shouldn't be consumed raw>. They were quickly whisked away and brought back several minutes later cooked 'well'.
Perhaps no apology was given in order to save face for the Michelin starred kitchen? If, indeed, these polpettes are intended rare, a gentle suggestion from the waiter when a child orders them, would save a trip back to be cooked to desired doneness. The mystery remains.
