A Taste of Authentic Italian Eclectic Dining!
Highly recommended authentic Italian cuisine is a must if you are visiting NYC although very difficult to get a reservation. The wine list is superb (well priced/value), you start off with garlic bread salami and burrata a treat to start off a dining experience. Caesar salad freshly mixed at the table, beet fresh salad with currant, fresh delicious pastas , corn truffle, meatballs… tomato sauces are amazing…well priced for the experience and ambiance, the service was perfect. Well dressed waiters and friendly. Highly recommended especially family dining with many dishes to share.
Be the first to ReplyGreat one time experience
Very good food in a fair atmosphere. So expensive. Wine list extensive but by glass uninspired. Good for one time. Pass in future. Staff exceptional
Be the first to ReplyPre wedding dinner
This restaurant came highly recommended from a family friend. We had one night in NYC before departing for our wedding in Greece and this is where they sent us. The food, the service, the ambiance were all 5 stars plus. We look forward to coming back again!

Excellent ambiance, food and service. I had the lobster ravioli. Best I have ever had. My daughter had the rigatoni also the best. We shared a chopped salad. The lemon cheesecake was perfect for dessert. Next visit I will order the Veal Parmesan as it is highly recommended but we were not that hungry and it was lunchtime. The servers were very attentive with honest recommendations. Don’t miss this gem while in NYC! Book way in advance.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding evening at Carbone!
We celebrated our daughter's 16th birthday at Carbone and it was outstanding. Carbone is undoubtedly one of the most popular Italian restaurants in NYC and for good reason. The service was outstanding, and the food excellent. Spicy rigatoni and the veal were definite winners, but everything was top notch! Thanks Carbone for making our daughter's sweet 16 so memorable!
Be the first to ReplyGood food if not overpriced
Outrageously priced but ultimately impressive Italo-American food. Managed to snag an early reservation and the place was full - so I guess any NYC restaurant that can pack it in at 17:30 is doing something right. It’s one and done for me - at these prices, easier to fly to Italy for proper Italian.
Be the first to ReplyLast Table Left in Carbone Callin Plays on the Rotary Phone
You guys will likely never understand the sheer willpower and determination it took to not open this review with a Drake lyric, and I just want my pat on the back. Thank you. After trying to get a res here for years, but admittedly not trying THAT hard, we finally got it. Shoutout to my girl Nicole K. on Yelp. She really the plug. I seen she always be in here and asked her how. She flexed up on me and said "You want one? I got you." DAMN, SHE'S LIKE THAT. Walking into Carbone, I actually felt like the MAN. Was the Drake line "Last table left in Carbone callin plays on a rotary phone," on repeat in my head while walking in? Yes. Yes it was. But it's lowkey been on repeat in my head since 2017 so whatever. But yeah, right upon entry, I got it. Vibes are IMMACULATE. I'm checking in at the host stand with a classy Italian dude in a beautiful navy blue pinstripe suit, Frank Sinatra playing through the speakers, a vintage Italian decor with low lit lighting, customers dressed to the nines, etc. Just everything you could want out of an experience like this. We sat down and I wasn't gonna drink, but that glass of Chianti Classico was looking at me soooooo crazy... I folded like a lawn chair ahahaa. As we were scanning the menu-PLOP! The waiter puts down a basket of bread, a plate of cold cuts, and some pickled cauliflower. This was lowkey a lot of food for just being on the house, I was JUICED. My roommate (Former USC Basketball Superstar) and I tore into this leaving no remnants of any food, we gettin our money's worth ahahahaa. We both ordered the Spicy Rigatoni and opted to split the meatballs. I almost went with the Lobster Ravioli, but idk. Maybe I'm CRAZY, but lobster just doesn't really do it for me like that. Y'all know Lobster used to be prison & peasant food? What a crazy come up Lobster had lmao. I'm tryna be like Lobster. The Spicy Rigatoni, as pictured on your friends instagram stories every time they go to Carbone, was delicious and worth every last bit of hype. The Carbone Spicy Rigatoni has to be the world's most photographed pasta. It's a top 10 plate of pasta I've ever had. Number 1 is easily the Penne Alla Vodka from Alla Vecchia Bettola in Florence, though. That's the LeBron of the pasta game. Oh you haven't been to Florence??? COULDN'T BE ME! After we demolished the meatballs, I noticed the veal parmesan getting delivered to the table next to us and got the worst FOMO you could ever imagine, as it looked unreal. I can only equate it to the level of FOMO when I was in high school and I saw my close friends all out at a party I wasn't invited to in the back of someone's snapchat story..... No? Just me? Oof. We were essentially the last table left in this place, with my roommate actually making some business calls on the rotary phone lol it was pretty cool... He does work at Bloomberg though, so.... I ordered a glass of Domina to go with me home. Typically restaurants that I have high expectations for let me down worse than Amazon's acquisition of Whole Foods, but Carbone exceeded them, and quite easily. They got 5 stars in the holy trinity of the food industry: Great food, great ambiance, and great service. It really is that simple at the end of the day. BELIEVE THE HYPE! Be the first to ReplyLovely food but service disappointing
Lovely food but the service was disappointing. We had to ask to order our drinks and food after waiting around 30 mins. The drinks arrived and then had to be returned due to being the wrong order. In addition to this, we were not given any new cutlery for our main and then we felt rushed while eating our food as the waiter started scraping the food from one plate to the next. We are not ones to usually complain but I feel for this standard of restaurant the service was really not what we would expect.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Birthday dinner
Wonderful birthday dinner. I had lunch here last year for my birthday and this year an incredibly late dinner( only time we could get). It was still a fabulous experience- service is exceptional, the food is excellent and they celebrated my birthday! I doubt Carbone really needs reviews- but I did want to stress this was a super experience and greatly appreciated.
Be the first to ReplyJust Good Food, But A Great Experience.
We had a great experience for lunch at Carbone. Your best bet is trying to secure a reservation 30 days out. And you better be ready to lock it down within minutes of them being released. Our server, Eddie, was a gem. We started with the bread, then the prosciutto & mozzarella. Both were very fresh. Then we ordered the spicy rigatoni, the tortellini, and the Mario's meatballs to share. Then we finished with the huge portion of carrot cake. Everything was good, but the tortellini didn't blow me away. The meatballs and rigatoni are definitely standouts on this short menu. We were seated in the back of the restaurant, and the space was a little tight, but was warm and cozy. It carries all the charm you've heard about, from the decor to all the servers wearing tuxedos. Bottom line, it's good food, just maybe not the best you've ever had. But the experience justifies the price tag!
Be the first to ReplyWOW EXPERIENCE
Besides eating the incredible food that Carbone is famous for, dining there was hands down one of the most memorable hospitality experiences I’ve had (& I worked at the Ritz Carlton). A big shout out to Bellini for providing a WOW experience. He not only routinely checked up on our table with a friendly, fun and attentive spirit, he also made sure his entire team welcomed us. Every interaction with the staff was so incredibly personable and made us feel like family!
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely overly-hyped
Heard a lot about how their Spicy Rigatoni is to die for, difficult to get a table, etc... Had a chance to have dinner with some business associates. Here are my recollection; (1) No offer of coat check for 4 guests. (2) Spicy Rigatoni was very good. (3) Meatballs was above average. (4) Chicken Scapariello was strange - never had it in that kind of sauce before. (5) Veal parm was average. (6) Tiramisu was very dry. Not good. (7) Service was OK; Sommelier did not offer additional drinks requests. We brought 3 bottles of wines and paid corkage, but Sommelier could've asked if we wanted more from the wine list. Waiter was professional. But Strangest thing was the other staff pouring Pellegrino into our glasses, without asking if we wanted another bottle. I also noticed the busboy/lady using the same bottle and pouring it at the next table. In the end we were charged 5 bottles! We only ordered one. Do I think it was worth it? I think there was a reason why they lost their one Michelin Star.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing first visit
Good food though somewhat overpriced Ok rather uncharming service Charged for a bottle of wine when we took a glass - no apology I would not rush to return
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced hype.
Over priced average food. Nice space. Too many workers that do not really work to please customer. Had to ask for cheese and black pepper after plates delivered to table. Rush you to leave quickly and the 4 of us spent well over 600 dollars. Very patronizing service. Go to Norma’s on 3rd avenue and have a better meal at 1/3 of the price.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent!
Not only is this great food but it was a very nice experience and I would say a Top Five dining experience of all-time. Outstanding service, also. I was here with some coworkers and I think we tried everything – make sure you fast or something before you come to make sure you have room for all of the excellent dishes!
Be the first to ReplyOld School Experience
Arrived for Sunday lunch and staff was very attentive. The décor is reminiscent of an old school Italian Restaurant and the music was great. Our Captain was very friendly and he just happened to be from Staten Island too. First we had their complimentary apps, cheese, salami, etc. and then we ordered the Caesar Salad Zee Zee and forgot to order the meatballs. We weren’t impressed with the salad nor the croutons. The romaine was a little wilted and not as fresh as it should be. Next we had the lobster ravioli and the spicy rigatoni which were both excellent. We heard so much about the Veal Parm, we just had to order it. It was delicious but $89 for a piece of veal parm is ridiculous and we definitely would not order it again. I think the spicy rigatoni was our favorite dish. Dessert was mixed berries with cream which was also good but overpriced. We enjoyed the experience and satisfied our curiosity.

Impeccable service extremely attentive. We shared the lasagna family style. It was truly an experience to remember.
Be the first to ReplyRude!
The front of house hostess was so rude and condescending that on that basis alone, I would not recommend this restaurant. On entering the restaurant, I smiled and greeted her: she made no attempt to smile in return nor greet me, but abruptly asked my name. It didn’t start well and it ended worse. My husband’s friend had made the booking for us as we were visiting from the UK. Traffic was apparently bad when we left our hotel and, despite the fact we’d allowed extra time, our driver advised we would be 5 minutes late for our booking. Throughout the entire journey, either the traffic got worse or the driver took steps to take quicker routes which were actually slower: we don’t live in NY, we don’t know, but it took us nearly an hour to get from midtown. Throughout the journey we attempted to contact the restaurant to advise them of the situation. There is no phone number on their website. The driver eventually managed to get hold of a number for us from somewhere and we rang it, only to receive a recorded message with an email address to contact regarding bookings/cancellations/confirmations. So we sent an email. However, quite clearly nobody checks the email until the following day (that’s when we finally received a response anyway). When we arrived late, apologised and advised the hostess/front of house of the situation, we were actually scolded by her (my 11-year old son afterwards said it was like his teacher would speak to him if he were late for a lesson) and told they had already reallocated our table (we’re not sure how they managed to reach someone who could get to the table within the 20 minute that we were late …..) We explained that we’d tried to call, explained that we’d emailed, explained that we were from overseas. With a huff and a sigh, she told us to wait at the bar (which has no seating) while she saw what she could do. Around 30 minutes later, we had not been updated and my daughter was starting to feel faint. My husband politely approached the front desk again to find out what was happening. Eventually someone different came over and said (more politely than the original hostess, to be fair) that there was nothing they could offer us before 10:30pm. With a 13 and 11 year old, and a 3-hour wait, we had no choice but to leave and wander around an area we didn’t know, a long drive from our hotel and try to find somewhere else to eat. Our issue is not necessarily that the table couldn’t be held, but the fact they make it impossible to let them know if you’re running unavoidably late and then treat you with such unnecessary haughty contempt. As I said, even before the hostess was aware of the situation, her manner was unfriendly and unwelcoming so the ‘vibe’ was bad from the outset, and totally unlike any of the other restaurants we ate in during our time in NYC where the service was always excellent. We’ve been fortunate enough to eat in many high-end restaurants in London and other cities, and we’ve never experienced anything even close to this. It was the evening we’d all really looked forward to on our whole trip and it was spoiled not only by the circumstances outside of our control, but by the way it was managed by the restaurant.

This place is really phenomenal. Extremely nice athmosphere, you feel like beeing in New York in the 40s or 50s. And the food is very good as well. We had a lovely time and really enjoyed every minute at Carbone👌🙏
Be the first to ReplyThe Food was good - Waiter a 7.5
We had a good time at Carbone for lunch. It is a status symbol and nice to go. We went for lunch and honestly very overpriced. The food was good . The atmosphere was something out of a movie. The waiters and captains were very attentive. Didn't really appreciate some of the humor of one of the waiters. Very difficult process to get a reservation, try to get one and go to the experience. I think I'm good in future. Perhaps a dinner next time. I would try one of the other locations in future.
Be the first to ReplyWorth the wait!
Had high hopes after a lot of back and forth booking a reservation last minute and it did not disappoint. If only we could eat more because I def want to try everything on the menu. The spicy rigatoni was amazing (not very spicy) and perfectly al dente. Lobster fra diavolo was delicious and fresh (again not too spicy). Potato louie were crispy from the duck fat. The carpaccio with the addition of fresh porcini shaved on top was 1 of the best things ever. Next time I'd skip dessert and eat more pasta! A great place to go with a group so you can try a bit of everything. Service was attentive without being over bearing. I didn't find anyone to have an attitude.

Absolutely my favorite restaurant in Manhattan! The wonderful experience starts with the waiters (*captains*) who are super attentive and helpful, and all the people who works there are extremely friendly and attentive. They start by serving you a basket of delicious breads, salami, pickled cauliflower and a hunk of Parmigiano Reggiano, all very tasty and courtesy of the house. As appetizers, the best in my opinion are Prosciutto & Mozzarella, Carpaccio Piemontese and Caeser alla ZZ, which they prepare at the side of the table and the croutons and sauce are the best I've ever tasted. The Tortellini al Ragu is absolutely my favorite dish in town, I order it every time, but the Lobster Ravioli and Spicy Rigatoni Vodka along with Veal Parmesan are also a great choice. For dessert you MUST try the carrot cake, I'm not a big fan of carrot cake, but the one they make is inexplicable, I haven't had such a good dessert in a while. The lemon cheesecake also tastes amazing, I used to order it all the time, but the carrot cake has now won my heart! Everything they serve is very tasty, which for me is the difference between most of other restaurants where the food is very bland for my brazilian taste. And that's what makes me like Carbone so much, not to mention the service again, of course, because being treated with attention is something difficult in this city where everyone always seems to be in a hurry. I'll be coming back again and again and again!!! Reservations are made through Resy a month in advance, they are available at exactly 10 am and are gone in a matter of seconds, be quick!
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced and overhyped
We were expecting an amazing experience, but didn’t really receive that. We ordered 11 dishes and shared as a group of four so we all got to taste everything. There were a few items that were really good, the spicy rigatoni, clams, lobster ravioli. However the rib eye was mediocre at best, I’ve had better at your basic $30 steakhouse and for it to be over $100 is pretty wild. The tiramisu was also the worst one I’ve ever had. No one had more than a bite, I couldn’t recommend not getting it anymore. The service was decent overall, but as some others have said, there was a smugness about the ones we interacted with. Overall it was still a pretty good time, especially if you like oldies because they were playing that all night, but I don’t think we’ll be back, especially with how hard it was to get in.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent cuisine and service
Yes, it is true that obtaining a reservation is quite an accomplishment. The restaurant is unassuming from outside and very basic decor inside. It exudes an old Italian charm that reminded us of our trips to Italy. Our server, who was actually from Mexico, was very personable, very attentive and the perfect server. We ordered the Mario's meatballs and they were superb. I have to admit that the oysters posillipo was not a favorite...have to give a nod to those large flavorful oysters that we eat in New Orleans. My daughter thought the spicy rigatoni vodka was wonderful. I am from the Midwest so I am very particular about steak and how it is prepared. My ribeye Diana was tender, packed with flavor and done to perfection. Carbone's has a line of spaghetti sauces that can be purchased in higher end grocery stores across the United States. I found the sauce in California and when I returned home I was able to buy them in Minnesota. The store bought sauces were wonderful and under $10 per jar.
Be the first to ReplyAlways solid
We have been here a few times over the years and it’s always been solid. Atmosphere, drinks, music all work with a old school vibe. Service is also excellent without attitude. This time we had the prime rib which was awesome and the tortellini which was good. However the mozzarella was a bit chewy and the carrot cake was too ginger. Overall not sure I would rush back for the hassle of the reservation and the cost but if you haven’t been you have to try it once.
