Spicy rigatoni was good - not as worth the hype it has but
Spicy rigatoni was good - not as worth the hype it has but definitely good and not too expensive to be honest. The waiter was rushing us the whole time, so much so that we were done half an hour before he needed the table back and only when we were getting to coffees he said 'no rush' as if the whole dinner hadn't been rushed beforehand. Hovered a lot and made it unenjoyable because it felt like he was just trying to get us out of there, which, to his credit, he succeeded at with plenty time to spare. Second time I've been because my friends have wanted to go but would probably never go back. If a waiter at any other restaurant had done the same I would have walked out.

Food is very good but when going to Carbone you truly are paying for the experience and service...I had been before and enjoyed thoroughly but this last time truly ruined any chances of me returning. I was there for a casual Thursday night dinner and the Sommelier came around and asked if I had any questions related to the wine list. I simply asked if they had any Tuscan reds in the $120 range, his response was "I don't know...you know this is Carbone" in a condescending tone basically insinuating I was being cheap and out of place being there for asking such a question. Very unprofessional and rude. FYI there is a $90 Chianti on the menu. Ended up going with a $145 bottle which was totally fine but he did not need to come across so pretentious and rude. Not what I expected out of the staff there...very disappointing...soured the evening.
Be the first to ReplyA+ on the service and ambiance.
The spicy rigatoni ended up being my favorite and the tortellini al ragu came in second. The branzino was cooked really well, I'd get it again but it's the whole fish so definitely shareable. Everything is basically shareable. The chicken was okay. I didn't care for the lobster ravioli or the fettuccine con funghi maybe because I wasn't in the mood for it but my sister and cousin really enjoyed the fettuccine. I didn't like the margarita, it's not a traditional margarita but this was my first time having a Whitehall Lane Cabernet Sauvignon and I fell in love, my new favorite wine. I'll definitely go back.

Not only is this great food but it was a very nice experience and I would say a Top Five dining experience of all-time. Outstanding service, also. I was here with some coworkers and I think we tried everything - make sure you fast or something before you come to make sure you have room for all of the excellent dishes!
Be the first to ReplySo lucky to score a reservation at Carbone for lunch time.
It's true what they say, their spicy rigatoni is truly amazing and probably something that's super hard to re create at home. My friend loved their scalloped potatoes and it was soft and so buttery but crispy on the top and edges. I would definitely come back for their rigatoni and tiramisu. The only annoying thing was some confusion around the bill (since we had to put down an initial deposit upon ordering), so hopefully that gets sorted soon. The food was worth it though and service was great.

The only thing worth going back here for is the spicy rigatoni- so good! The Caesar salad was mediocre and the desserts were good, not great. Service and vibes were unique and definitely worth going once to maybe see a celebrity.Follow me on Instagram/TikTok for more food pics and recommendations! @global_grubs
Be the first to ReplyGreat service.
Intimate restaurant. Decor is cute. Food is quite mediocre. Average wine list. I put a lot of the "buzz" around Carbone down to excellent marketing.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible food, incredible service.
We dined outside and our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. Such a lovely institution.
Be the first to ReplyHad a lot of expectations given how hard of a reservation
Had a lot of expectations given how hard of a reservation it was to come by, and the price point. From the second we showed up, everything was fantastic. The service, the drinks, the vibe... even something as simple as the spaghetti pomodoro is to die for. Veal parm is a must. Would love to go back!

Had a great time, definitely a place to check off your restaurant checklist. The service was superb. Made me feel like royalty. There was a tad bit of a wait as they got our table together. The dining room and the art is enchanting. It isn't a dainty NYC setting. Its a fancy yet rustic decor. Sat in the back dining room and was great seeing the diversity of people in attendance. As for dress, not sure if there is a code but every one was dressed in business causal.Don't expect to be in and out. Our experience lasted about 2 hours and some change. Now lets get to the food. Is it overpriced? yes. Are you paying for the totality of an experience? yes. Some items were an absolute hit, some not so much. HITs: The Spicy Rigatoni lived up to all the social media hype. Creamy, spicy and cooked perfectly. They split the portion. The Caesar Salad sounds so simple but outstanding. The jumbo croutons and the whole oily anchovies were wildly good.I didn't order the meatball but a pair next to us shared with me. And wow! they were good.Miss: My partner had the Linguini Vongole which she had me try and it was way overdone. chicken scarpariello was good but nothing special.Last tip for getting reservations. They open reservations daily at noon but honestly its closer to 12:30pm. The times aren't always ideal but you could get a 2/2:30/3pm on a weekday. Also check day of because people do cancel. The deposit is also subtracted from your bill.

Glamorous Italian spot with high-end pastas + meats that are arguably the best in the city but also undoubtedly the most expensive. Tables book fast so reserve in advance and if fortunate enough to get one, order the spicy rigatoni but be ready to spend a small fortune for the experience. $50 a dish. 4.5/5 stars as a dinner spot.

I'm sure someone you know has been to or has talked about Carbone at least once. The service is phenomenal. Very friendly and attentive staff. I was not sure if I would like the Aperol Spritz and the server said I could order it and if I didn't like it he would bring a different drink for me to try. (I did not end up liking it and he was gracious enough to let me get something else). Reservations go very quick so keep that in mind if you don't know already! Prosciutto & Mozzarella to start is always great. The fresh bread + Parmesan cheese should always be considered. Went for the classic Spicy Rigatoni Vodka and was not disappointed.Very old school classic dining room. Low lighting + candles and classic wood accents with art. Delicious food and have been back since.
Be the first to ReplyCarbone lost its Michelin star for a reason.
Eating here is not worth it and is very much just hype. The reason I gave 2 stars is because the service is good but the food was not worth it in the slightest. The environment is okay, it's a bit loud with the music and considering it's a higher end restaurant the table cloths are not pressed and we received a chipped plate.Onto the food: Bread Basket had fresh mozzarella and garlic bread Baked Clams had 3 different varieties in the one portion of 9 (the best is the one with the sea urchin, another is spicy and not good, and the other is a lemon which is okay.)Lobster Ravioli came with 5 ravioli and had a lot of lobster but the ravioli itself tasted very fishy and not very creamy. The lobster itself was a bit more chewy because it was over cooked.Spicy Rigatoni was okay, my sister enjoyed it the most out of everything. I personally have had better and was not impressed. We also had meatballs also which did not impress me.The artichoke was unfortunately one of the best things I have there and would recommend. We also had the chicken which comes with ham , eggplants, and peppers which arguably was one of the better foods that we ate but tasted more like braised beef.We also had the lobster diablo and were told it was 3 pounds. It definitely was not but also the flavor was not good at all. It tasted it was cooked in a bottle of straight up hot sauce and was terrible. It comes cut up and does not come with the claws.I can confidently say that the desserts were the only thing I enjoyed. We had rainbow cookies, the lemon cello sorbet, and the tiramisu: I am not a fan of tiramisu but my family who is did not enjoy it either. The sorbet was really good and the cookies were good as well.Overall, I would not recommend, and would not return to a place that is overhyped.
Be the first to ReplyWas able to get a reservation to Carbone during Valentine's
Was able to get a reservation to Carbone during Valentine's week and the food definitely lived up to the hype.We were greeted at the door, escorted our table, and handed these extra large menus by our server. We sat in the main area by the entrance which was narrow and I felt like we were right up against the table next to us, which wasn't the most comfortable. The restaurant is dimly lit and rather casual. To start, we were served their infamous complimentary starters - pizza bread, salami, pickled cauliflower and parmesan cheese. There were a wide variety of things we wanted to try so we ordered a bit of everything.Prior to coming to Carbone, I read that their warm mozzarella, which is not on their menu, is not to be missed. We ordered the warm mozzarella and roasted red peppers in oil. This was hands down my favorite part of the meal. The mozzarella arrived in a little bowl immersed in olive oil to which the server used a small pair of scissors to cut into 4 pieces, which were then placed on top of the red peppers. The cheese lover in me was in heaven! The mozzarella, coupled with the roasted peppers, was just perfection - the texture and flavor was all there. If you love cheese, do not miss out on this! Our next course was the assorted clams casino. There were three different types of baked clams, but my favorite was the one with the uni on top. The uni was so creamy and went so well with the clams. Next up were the meatballs in marinara sauce and the spicy rigatoni vodka. The meatballs were so tender and juicy and went so well with the rigatoni. The rigatoni was al dente and the sauce was smooth and rich with a kick of spice. By this point, we were already pretttty full. This didn't stop us from diving right into our main courses, which were the double lamb chops and veal marsala. The server sliced the lamb chops for us table-side and the portion was very generous. The lamb was cooked to perfection, flavorful and came with several sauces. The veal was tender and the marsala sauce was very rich. I really enjoyed the garlicky oyster mushrooms on top of it! We had a side of potatoes louis which went really well with both the lamb and veal. After our main course, the waiter approached with a large tray of cakes, beautifully presented. We couldn't resist the dessert so we ordered the tiramisu. The tiramisu was light and fluffy - a great way to end the meal. The server also brought out two pieces of their complimentary rainbow cookies which were also very good!Overall, we had a delicious meal, tasty cocktails, great wine and exceptional service. Highly recommend Carbone for a date night if you want to splurge a little and eat a lot.
Be the first to ReplyFirst and foremost, the mozzarella at Carbone is out of
First and foremost, the mozzarella at Carbone is out of this world. It's fresh, creamy, and simply melts in your mouth, and is always a standout dish that never fails to impress. Paired perfectly with Mario's Meatballs. Moving on to the Beef Carpaccio, it's a must-try dish for any carnivore. The thinly sliced raw beef is served with a drizzle of olive oil, lemon juice, and a sprinkle of capers and parmesan cheese. The result is a beautifully balanced dish that is bursting with flavor and texture. The freshness and quality of the ingredients shine through in every bite. And last but not least, the Spicy Rigatoni is a dish that I can't get enough of. The rigatoni is cooked perfectly al dente and is smothered in a rich and spicy tomato sauce, which adds a tangy and salty flavor that perfectly complements the heat of the sauce. It's a dish that is sure to leave you feeling warm and satisfied.Overall, Carbone Italian restaurant in New York is a must-visit spot for anyone looking for an unforgettable Italian dining experience. From the mozzarella to the Beef Carpaccio to the Spicy Rigatoni, the quality of the ingredients and the craftsmanship of the dishes are truly exceptional. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, although a tad bit crowded. However, service is top-notch. Unfortunately, this is a place you cannot just walk into so plan accordingly and bring your AMEX.
Be the first to ReplyI was less than impressed this time, staff was great to get
I was less than impressed this time, staff was great to get us seated ahead of our reservation time. Physical is on the dark side and the seats are small and the tables are cramped together. For the largest guy at our table, he was constantly getting bumped into on the back because of the distance between tables. Service was good generally with plate and utensils switched between courses.Bread basket was great; the sesame bread and grandma's bread were excellent. The pickled cauliflower in olive oil would've been better had we had a spoon to put the olive oil on our own plates to dip the bread into; forks didn't cut it here. We started with appetizers; the special burrata was fantastic, quite possibly the best dish of the night. Oysters filled with too much salt, like ocean water. The calamari was good, though, and the crudo was so-so, nothing stood out there though nothing bad about it. The Caesar salad was interestingly prepared to the side in a bowl used for the mixing purpose, and croutons were good, but the lettuce was bitter. The anchovies were nice on the side, a touch more sour than savory. There was a guy who came around carving a piece of cheese for each person at the table, too, almost like parmesan but much less salty. The pasta course was the overall best, the spicy rigatoni was excellent. The $60 truffle ravioli special was good ravioli, the truffle was probably overkill but probably a better enjoyed garnish if you love truffles. The meatballs would have been really good ... But one was severely undercooked. Raw meat at the center was no good for two of the diners at our table; the third meatball was more thoroughly cooked and enjoyed.Main course had a pork chop, medium rare, which was gristly and fatty. The veal parm was good, but nothing surprising. The giant prawns were ... Large shrimp. Grilled and the head was undercooked, body overcooked (hard not to with the size).Dessert was started with rainbow cookies, tasty. The carrot cake was an interesting curved piece and decor, plus what seemed like an olive oil ice cream, but the cake itself was dry and tasted not of carrots but flour and baking soda. The tiramisu ladyfinger at the top didn't hold together well but people liked that a lot more than the carrot cake. Wine selection good, only one beer, strong cocktails, and they almost thought they didn't have the port for dessert. They did forget to bring my iced tea, though. Overall the bread, burrata, calamari, and spicy rigatoni were excellent. The rest of the food, I was disappointed or didn't find much to impress me with. My thought for next time, get a lot more pastas, skip the meat mains, and make sure they cook the meatballs more.
Be the first to ReplyA little overrated.
Definitely better sports in nyc. Not saying it was bad but it wasn't the best. spicy rigatoni was good not great lacked salt and other seasonings the prosciutto mozzarella was good. one of my favorites on the menu. wine selection is good and has a good ambience. overall good service good food and good ambiance. Other places are better in nyc and carbone is hard to get into. If you can get in go it'll be food and you'll have fun. But again there's definitely better places in nyc.

Carbone's vibe literally makes u feel like ur in an old italian movie, pair it with the spicy rigatoni & a glass of wine and u literally could not be happier. Spicy rigatoni is the real reason why most people come here, I have tried parm's rigatoni and i have to say carbone's is so much better and creamier.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely yum, but definitely overhyped.
Complimentary bread, salami, and fresh mozzarella was appreciated. Caesar was solid - the croutons were amazing. Spicy rigatoni was unique - more spicy and savory than others I've tried. Lobster ravioli had so much lobster! Meatballs were underwhelming.Service was amazing. They fold your napkin whenever you get up lol. The ambiance was also great - intimate, cozy, and great oldie music definitely set the mood.Overall, the food was good but it wasn't the best Italian food I've had. Personally, I am satisfied with trying it just once.
Be the first to ReplyI can't believe I'm actually leaving an OK review for
I can't believe I'm actually leaving an OK review for Carbone, especially given how hard you have to work to even get a reservation. When we arrived everyone was wonderful, from the doorman to the hosts to the servers. Everyone is absolutely lovely. The space is TIGHT. I know NYC is known for our tiny spaces, but I don't like when you have to move the neighboring table in order to get in and out of the booth side. That's Carbone. :( I recall ordering a bottle of wine, but it felt like the server just kept the glasses topped off the entire time, which had to be more than a bottle....and, trust me, we were not complaining. We started with the rigatoni, which was fine, and I had the salmon, which was also fine. The vibe was chill, with the exception of the drama-filled table near us and that was pure entertainment. So, why only 3 stars? Because given how SERIOUSLY HARD you have to work to obtain a reservation, I would expect food that would make me want to lick the entire plate. Instead the food is fine- nothing spectacular, which it should've been since you have to juggle 20 fire-breathing dragons in order to get in the restaurant in the first place. This is a NYC experience and I would only recommend it for that reason...and if you have 3 months to habitually call daily and try to get a reservation for an upcoming month. Otherwise, it's definitely a skip.
Be the first to ReplyI was so excited for Carbone, because everyone was raving
I was so excited for Carbone, because everyone was raving about it. I was so upset because my pasta was so salty it was inedible. Everything else tasted amazing, we had so many complimentary starters which I was thankful for! Their mozz and peppers were great, the corn amazing! But the pasta, the star of the show, was so inedible we couldn't finish our meal. I had to squeeze that sauce out of the noodles to eat it. I definitely think it was made incorrectly, but everything else was so good I can't tell if that was an accident or if it's actually supposed to taste that way.
Be the first to ReplyAnyone who rated this less than five stars is crazy.
Is it over the top expensive, yes. Will you have a better Italian dining experience in New York City, or possibly beyond? No.From the ambience, to the music (mostly sinatra) , to the staff, you feel like you are in an old Hollywood mobster film. It's a great environment, and intoxicating. It definitely makes you purchase several bottles of wine. We made sure to try all of the staples. Below are my rankings on must-try dishes. Also, my big honorable mention is the bread and cheese that they start the meal with. They basically give you marinara bread, Texas toast, plain bread and butter, and a piece of delicious cheese even before you order a dish.Spicy rigatoniTortellini RaguMeatballsBronzinoOystersCesarAgain. There were no misses. But the top 3 I would 100% get again.
Be the first to ReplyClearly Carbone doesn't need my good review to stay in
Clearly Carbone doesn't need my good review to stay in business, but since I was a major skeptic coming in, I'm writing one for anyone else like me! My husband and I finally had dinner after four months of trying to get a reservation at a Normal Dinner Time (it took Amex concierge's help). Looking at the prices and the fact that a pasta with..nothing but sauce seemed to be everyone's favorite dish, we expected this would be a fine-but-not-worth-the-$$ New York dining experience crossed off the list.Well, we were so wrong -- and altogether impressed. The Carbone atmosphere is real: feels clubby, secret, a world away from the bustle of NYU Land surrounding it (and the '50s doowop soundtrack is A+). Our waiter was super nice and unpretentious. The on the house little plates -- spicy salami, parmigiano reggiano, pickled spicy cauliflower and excellent bread -- are a nice pre-meal touch. We ordered the off menu meatballs, linguini vongole and spicy rigatoni -- a perfect amount of food for two people (we considered also getting the cherry pepper ribs; it definitely would have been overdoing the food quantity). The meatballs are loosely packed and light as they go, definitely the best we've had in a restaurant in some time. The linguini sauce is delicious, super garlic and herby and a bit spicy, and packed with clams. And the spicy rigatoni--well, I get the obsession now. It's the most flavorful vodka sauce I've ever had, one you'll want to scrape up w a spoon when the pasta is gone. We were too full for dessert, but the complimentary rainbow cake was ...the best rainbow cake I've ever had.All in all, Carbone really won us over, and is certainly the most standout red sauce Italian we've had in the city.
Be the first to ReplyProbably some of the best service I've had.
Amazing food and even better ambiance. Pricey for the portion but I guess you pay for the experience and the pictures... The starting bread and mozzarella are great. In fact it may be the best mozzarella I've had at a restaurant to date. The caprese was probably the best caprese I've had also. The spicy rigatoni lives up to the hype, especially for vegetarians. I also got the tortellini in a vegetarian red sauce it was some of the best vegetarian tortellini I've had. The Nutella tiramisu is not that great though.
Be the first to ReplyWe got lucky and snagged a last minute 11:30pm reservation.
The atmosphere is amazing here, very old school & classy. They bring you a delicious bread basket with cheese, pickled cauliflower & salami complimentary. We ordered the spicy vodka rigatoni and the lobster ravioli for our main entrees. I wouldn't say it's the best pasta I've had but it was good. What did stand out was the caprese salad! It was outstanding. Really friendly staff as well. It's worth the hype.
