An enjoyable experience, although in my opinion it is
An enjoyable experience, although in my opinion it is over-priced and a little overhyped. I couldn't get a reservation here for over 5 years, then finally did by being on the "notify me" waitlist for many many attempts. They do have a dress code, so we rerouted our whole afternoon to go home and change after being notified that there was an available reservation hours in advance. Their bread, cheese and salami were the highlights of the meal. The focaccia and garlic bread were truly perfect and the cheese was insanely good as well. The yellowtail crudo was solid. Good quality and refreshing. The Caesar salad was pretty mediocre. The mustard flavor tasted too heavy to me and it was a little undersalted. But the croutons on top were amazing. The pastas were average at best. The clam pasta had an unusual ingredient, I think it was green peppers or something, but the flavors did not come together well. The rigatoni was okay. I wouldn't order either of them again. The atmosphere is very nice - it feels upscale and festive without being too stuffy. Their service was great.

If you are not important, or what "they" perceive as important, you don't matter. I am a teacher and splurged on my kids' graduation trip. My god, have some respect for all people whether famous or normal or poor!!!!!
Be the first to ReplyThe journey to Carbone began the week before my trip to NYC.
Visiting a friend, we wanted to dine somewhere nice to celebrate a graduation on top of being foodies who love to try new places. Immediately, Carbone NYC came to mind as the place we had to be. However, with only a weeks notice, we were sure that the answer would have been one that countless other people hear from Carbone; no. However, after emailing MFG about a reservation, not only were they incredibly prompt in a response but they were super accommodating and kind in helping secure my friend and I a reservation at the esteemed establishment. Walking in, you instantly feel the classy, elegant, and old school Italian American vibe in Carbone. From the staff sporting tuxedos to Dean Martin and Sinatra controlling the speakers, Carbone screams classic and exudes elegance. Service from the jump was impeccable and welcoming, especially considering we came from Boston to eat at Carbone. Our waiter helped guide us through the menu, and helped make sure we had the best experience we could. To start, we were served bread, local salami, and pickled cauliflower which from the jump were delicious. After tasting this, we knew we'd be in for a special night. Appetizers: The table side caesar was rich, crisp, and the jumbo croutons made it all the better. The baked clams came with three preparations: oregano, spicy pancetta, and one with sea urchin. Each clam brought its own flavor profile to the party, while at the same time complimenting each other. All in all the appetizers prepared us for the main stars of the night...the entrees. Entrees: From all the social media publicity the spicy vodka rigatoni gets, you'd figure that the hype must be bigger than the dish itself, but boy oh boy is that not the case for this dish. The rich, creamy, and ever so flavorful rigatoni are everything you'd hope from a Carbone meal. The pasta was cooked to perfection, and the flavor was spicy while not being unbearable. The rigatoni is a MUST HAVE no questions asked, but what may have stole the show was the tortellini al ragu. The meat sauce laid a foundation for the flavor that the plump tortellini would have. Biting in to those tortellini was like biting into a cloud. The soft, creamy, and rich cheese oozed from the pasta with every bite, adding to the perfection of the tortellini. We expected the rigatoni to be iconic, but the tortellini is the dish that is a must hiding in the shadows of the rigatoni. The veal parm was Italian comfort at its finest, flavorful, and crisp. The truffle corn was creamy, balanced and the perfect side. For two people, this was the perfect amount of food as everything comes in shareable sizes, and that is what I would recommend you do if you visit Carbone; share. To eat one dish here is criminal when the restaurant is so delicious, so you're better off sharing and tasting everything at this classic Italian eatery. To say you'd want to come back is an understatement, because Carbone is the staple that it truly is, from top to bottom and I am sure I will be trying other MFG establishments in the future.

This was my first time at the NYC location. It is very quaint but really good service, food was delicious, drinks were amazing. A great birthday celebration for my love.

This place is amazing! Great ambiance and music is loud, but you can still have a conservation without fear the music blocks conservations. Music selection is also very mellow and positive/upbeat; contributing to a very welcoming and relaxing meal. Service is excellent and everyone is attentive. Truly, I felt like a king dining with my family. Surprisingly this place is family friendly and the servers were very understanding, not something I expected from a fine dining establishment. Portions were decent, not the massive American sized portions or minuscule one bite servings. Don't be afraid to order a few different dishes, we ordered quite a bit, but finished every bite without left overs. We left full and definitely enjoyed dining at Carbone! When we next visit NYC, we'll make reservations in advance to ensure we don't miss out on this fantastic meal. We were lucky to get a last minute reservation.

I absolutely LOVE carbone and I don't care if it's overrated! The spicy rigatoni is out of this world and it's the only food picture I'm posting because it's the one plate you can't leave here without. I've now been to the one in New York and Vegas, I am very satisfied every single time! Don't forget to grab an espresso martini, chefs kiss!
Be the first to ReplyHoly cow, I don't know how this place gets such good
Holy cow, I don't know how this place gets such good reviews. To say it's over priced and over hyped is the understatement of the century. The decor is ghastly. It's like walking into the set of Goodfellas. There's no other way to put it. It's too loud to hear the waitstaff or your date. The service is worse than any diner, Denny's, shit hole, you've ever been to. In one night I saw, bottles being turned upside down in glasses to pour; a manager cleared a table by dumping the contents of one plate in air (silverware and all) onto another plate; a hostess pulled out a seat for a lady then just left without pushing her in; the literal pushing of plates and glasses with plates and glasses to make room on the table and my personal favorite, our waiter putting our forks back on the table in between courses. There's no way there's service training and I doubt anyone FOH has ever eaten at even a semi-nice restaurant. They have no clue how to act. Getting up from the tables is also a feat. They are so tight together I had to help the woman next to us by moving our table. She probably weighed 110lbs. With the dozen FoH staff standing around, you'd think they'd be on top of that but I doubt they even know to help. The food... it must be good, right? The dive atmosphere and horrible service it's all a gimmick and the food is spectacular, right??? Not by a mile and I was starving. The bread service is plentiful, (they aren't serving the mozzarella anymore so forget that. You get sad cauliflower.) the really "elegant" chunk of parm they drop on a plate was tasty but why they serve it like we are a bunch of drunks digging in the fridge at 2 am is a mystery. The grandma bread was also tasty. We got the carpaccio which was so bland and not salted we didn't finish it.The sizzling porchetta looks amazing but was "meh" at best. The tortellini themselves were very good but for $35 they should be, right? The fettuccine with funghi was so underwhelming I can't begin to describe. I expected a rich dish with different caramelized mushrooms, cream, egg yolk and parm. What I got was half a sweated trumpet with way too much herb, no salt and nothing rich about it. We skipped dessert but even those sad rainbow cookies (literally my favorite cookie on the planet) were "meh". So how does this place stay so popular? It has to be the, "It's expensive so it has to be good" syndrome people follow. If you want to go to Carbon because you want to tell people you've been, you'll probably lie to yourself and say it was the best meal. If you actually love food, love dining out and know what a good meal in NYC tastes like, please know, Carbone is not worth the time or money.

ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE MONEY! People usually love the rigatoni (which I did too), but the star of the show for me were the baked clams. Would highly recommend

I felt I was on a movie set until the appetizers arrived and I found my happy place. The service people were in full uniform too and their delivery was professionally done. My daughter took us to this special place for Father's Day and my 77 th birthday. Love her for making me the envy of my friends!

Rarely do hyped up places live up to their expectation, but Carbone certainly did. The service was one of the best I've experienced in New York. Complimentary bread basket with cheese, olives and pickles was great. The spicy vodka lived up to its hype. Spaghetti vongole was good and so were the artichoke hearts. Will be back for sure.

mewww, waiter was rushing us and food was average (acceptable). The place is falling off
Be the first to ReplyAmazing atmosphere and ambiance! The service was excellent.
The food top notch especially the spicy rigatoni and the meatballs, those are two must haves! A must try restaurant!

We came here didn't have a reservation, but they wouldn't accept us even though there was no one in there. Hopefully they have better business ethnics and let walk in come and hopefully the food is worth it it's probably not. We went to lupa's and their food was delicious.

Great if you like shitty food and rude waiters!! We asked them what we should order for dessert and the guy said "make up your mind I have tables to turn"
Be the first to ReplyTop-notch service and terrific food.
This is my go-to spot when bringing my non-New York friends for a reliably great dinner. Yes, it can be hard to get a reservation, but if you know how, you now how!
Be the first to ReplyYou guys will likely never understand the sheer willpower
You guys will likely never understand the sheer willpower and determination it took to not open this review with a Drake lyric, and I just want my pat on the back. Thank you. After loosely trying to get a res here for years, we finally got it. Shoutout to my girl Nicole K. on Yelp. She really the plug. I seen she always be in here and asked her how. She flexed up on me and said "You want one? I got you." DAMN, SHE'S LIKE THAT. Walking into Carbone, I actually felt like the MAN. Was the Drake line "Last table left in Carbone callin plays on a rotary phone," on repeat in my head while walking in? Yes. Yes it was. But it's lowkey been on repeat in my head since 2017 so whatever. But yeah, right upon entry, I got it. Vibes are IMMACULATE. I'm checking in at the host stand with a classy Italian dude in a beautiful navy blue pinstripe suit, Frank Sinatra playing through the speakers, a vintage Italian decor with low lit lighting, customers dressed to the nines, etc. Just everything you could want out of an experience like this. We sat down and I wasn't gonna drink, but that glass of Chianti Classico was looking at me soooooo crazy... I folded like a lawn chair ahahaa. As we were scanning the menu-PLOP! The waiter puts down a basket of bread, a plate of cold cuts, and some pickled cauliflower. This was lowkey a lot of food for just being on the house, I was JUICED. My roommate (Former USC Basketball Superstar) and I tore into this leaving no remnants of any food, we gettin our money's worth ahahahaa. We both ordered the Spicy Rigatoni and opted to split the meatballs. I almost went with the Lobster Ravioli, but idk. Maybe I'm CRAZY, but lobster just doesn't really do it for me like that. Y'all know Lobster used to be prison & peasant food? What a crazy come up Lobster had lmao. I'm tryna be like Lobster. The Spicy Rigatoni, as pictured on your friends instagram stories every time they go to Carbone, was delicious and worth every last bit of hype. The Carbone Spicy Rigatoni has to be the world's most photographed pasta. It's a top 10 plate of pasta I've ever had. Number 1 is easily the Penne Alla Vodka from Alla Vecchia Bettola in Florence, though. That's the LeBron of the pasta game. Oh you haven't been to Florence??? COULDN'T BE ME! After we demolished the meatballs, I noticed the veal parmesan getting delivered to the table next to us and got the worst FOMO you could ever imagine, as it looked unreal. I can only equate it to the level of FOMO when I was in high school and I saw my close friends all out at a party I wasn't invited to in the back of someone's snapchat story..... No? Just me? Oof. We were essentially the last table left in this place, with my roommate actually making some business calls on the rotary phone lol it was pretty cool... He does work at Bloomberg though, so.... I ordered a glass of Domina to go with me home. Typically restaurants that I have high expectations for let me down worse than Amazon's acquisition of Whole Foods, but Carbone exceeded them, and quite easily. They got 5 stars in the holy trinity of the food industry: Great food, great ambiance, and great service. It really is that simple at the end of the day. BELIEVE THE HYPE! Be the first to ReplyBoy oh boy.
I've been wanting to come here with my partner for many months as we wanted to come try this place for our pasta craving appetites. We managed to snag a table outside by spamming the Resy Notifications and staying chronically online for my emails and I finally snagged a table. It was in the AMEX patio which I found to be even more romantic than the inside??? I thought I wouldn't have enjoyed the patio since many people said there wasn't that much room but I thought there was enough room to breathe and maybe even stretch out your arms so I'm happy with the space. There's even windows so on rainy days it's extra romantic because you're right at the window with great lighting! Onto the food experience- the menu was gigantic and I wasn't sure how to react when I received it. Our waiter was really great- he matched the vibe completely. Like he was from Italy but he's randomly in New York working for Carbone with an extremely Italian American accent. Old school New York music was played everywhere and it made me reminisce on the old Christmas movies I enjoy watching. I almost can say I enjoyed the service and ambiance more than the food as I wasn't as impressed as I hoped I would be. The Free Bread Section The complimentary bread wasn't just bread but garlic bread, fresh mozzarella and prosciutto - I was simply impressed. It's like the courting before dating someone new. Caesar Alla ZZZ Some people didn't like this on the reviews but I enjoyed it so much because I love anchovies and they were so fresh here! I would also recommend to cut everything up before eating because they kind of leave this salad full (think huge croutons and full anchovies, uncut romaine) Scallops The scallops in this case were cut up micro sized and the sauce was very interesting. I've never had anything like this and I'm assuming this is very Italian style dish as I've had something similar to this in an expensive prefixe Italian dinner in Vancouver. However, did it blow my mind? No. Was it fresh and tasty? fresh - yes, tasty - still thinking on this one as it's not quite my taste palette. Spicy rigatoni Since our server noticed we were sharing this he split it by the plate and I would say that this is super underwhelming for me. I thought it was a tad bit too spicy for me and the flavor of the vodka was not as simple as I'd like it to be. It's quite complex and we think that they've added pimento cheese almost in the sauce because it tastes like a little Smokey and cheesy. Lobster ravioli This was more of my jam although I had no idea most of this was pork dumplings with a side of fresh lobster. I enjoyed this very much however feel like it could use more lobster. Dessert This had me so happy! I enjoyed all the desserts a lot more than the actual meal but I confirmed with the waiter that you cannot come here just for dessert. They gave us almond flour rainbow cake and i loved it as it gave me a lot of nostalgia with growing up in Brooklyn living in Bensonhurst. The chocolate cake with the hazelnut and vanilla gelato had my heart and I enjoyed it so much. It literally is a Ferrero rocher cake and I could not be happier. It's not as sweet as other cakes and I enjoyed every bite! The carrot cake was really interesting as well because the ginger gelato had an amazing real ginger flavor and it went well with how moist the carrot cake was and the icing was so smooth and addicting. The downside is that the espresso is $7 each for a normal espresso. I know this is Carbone but this espresso isn't any different from other espresso I've had throughout my life. This place took me around my nostalgia track of being a New Yorker and the dream of being here compared to everywhere else versus like an Italian restaurant from Italy. I enjoyed a good fraction of it and I would tell people to just come here to experience it once because now I would probably not go back because the pasta was just ok and I would prefer to just eat somewhere else with my time and money.

Bucket list item checked off and completely exceeded all expectations. Our server Roberto was amazing and made us feel like family and like we were at home. Michael was the gentlemen who welcomed us and he was the sweetest and knew we were in the right place as soon as we got there. We sat in the "outside seating" but didn't feel outside at all. He had the best recommendations and treated our friend's birthday like one of his own. Could not recommend Roberto, Michael, or this place more!

In my opinion.. The food is delicious, the service is impeccable, wine list is good, the interior ambience makes you feel like you're in an old skool mob flick. Dining behind us one night was A$ap Rocky, I mean cmon. Before Dorsia you really had to try and put in work to get a reservation. But all that has changed, Been 3 times now and I will always recommend consistency is never an issue. I've yet to try Torrisi but I hear good things. Major food group has some of the best & hottest spots in the city that is guaranteed.

The food and ambience were good but I don't think it is worth the price. I think there is more hype behind the restaurant due to the name but don't think it is fully deserved. Portions are small for the price you pay. Overall good food but I wouldn't go again.
Be the first to ReplySpicy rigatoni was good - not as worth the hype it has but
Spicy rigatoni was good - not as worth the hype it has but definitely good and not too expensive to be honest. The waiter was rushing us the whole time, so much so that we were done half an hour before he needed the table back and only when we were getting to coffees he said 'no rush' as if the whole dinner hadn't been rushed beforehand. Hovered a lot and made it unenjoyable because it felt like he was just trying to get us out of there, which, to his credit, he succeeded at with plenty time to spare. Second time I've been because my friends have wanted to go but would probably never go back. If a waiter at any other restaurant had done the same I would have walked out.

Food is very good but when going to Carbone you truly are paying for the experience and service...I had been before and enjoyed thoroughly but this last time truly ruined any chances of me returning. I was there for a casual Thursday night dinner and the Sommelier came around and asked if I had any questions related to the wine list. I simply asked if they had any Tuscan reds in the $120 range, his response was "I don't know...you know this is Carbone" in a condescending tone basically insinuating I was being cheap and out of place being there for asking such a question. Very unprofessional and rude. FYI there is a $90 Chianti on the menu. Ended up going with a $145 bottle which was totally fine but he did not need to come across so pretentious and rude. Not what I expected out of the staff there...very disappointing...soured the evening.
Be the first to ReplyA+ on the service and ambiance.
The spicy rigatoni ended up being my favorite and the tortellini al ragu came in second. The branzino was cooked really well, I'd get it again but it's the whole fish so definitely shareable. Everything is basically shareable. The chicken was okay. I didn't care for the lobster ravioli or the fettuccine con funghi maybe because I wasn't in the mood for it but my sister and cousin really enjoyed the fettuccine. I didn't like the margarita, it's not a traditional margarita but this was my first time having a Whitehall Lane Cabernet Sauvignon and I fell in love, my new favorite wine. I'll definitely go back.
