Best Indian food
I ordered food from Cardamom on line. 1 hour later I dint receive my food. I called on the phone and spoke to a very polite lady( can't remember her name) said she would check into it.. I received my food 15 min later. The food was DELICIOUS, and still hot.The flavors were the best Indian food I've had in Los Angeles. And again the lady who answered the phone was GREAT!!

My wife and I had just spent a couple of frustrating hours at a nearby shopping center trying to deal with— never mind. That deserves a different review, and has nothing to do with Cardamom. Except its proximity...
So now it's after 5:00 pm, we had hoped to be home by now and having a simple dinner, but we are way the heck over here north of Wilshire & Fairfax, and traffic is horrible. Let's just eat somewhere around here. But not fast food. Not super expensive. Someplace calm where we can depressurize. Comfort food. Well, "comforting" food, we don't want heavy food from the Deep South (although another night we might feel differently!).
A quick google search for nearby restaurants and this "Cardamom" popped up. Indian food, perfect. And hmm, good reviews too. Probably ridiculously expensive, though it says the prices are reasonable. Photos look like a warm, calm place too. Let's check it out...
Boy are we glad we did. What a find! The Khybari Gosht Bhuna was excellent (I saved the receipt so I could remember what we ordered and spell it correctly). So was the Chetinad Murgh. We ordered them "subtly spicy" for my wife's sake; I will return and order the spicy version of the bhuna to see how they balance the spices when given free reign. Often the mild versions of Indian food can seem bland, but these managed to be complex and, well yeah, "subtle,"' without falling into blah-ness. We also shared a plate of Sabzi Korma, which was a solid "good." I don't remember the Nimbu Chawal so well, to be honest, but none of it made it into the take-home bag at the end of the meal, so it was good enough to be compulsively devoured during conversation.
Last two items are worthy of special note: first, the Peshawari Naan. By a strange twist of events, we actually visited Peshawar, Pakistan, a few months ago, and had been stunned by how good all (all!) the food was there. They had this amazing naan that we had never seen in the States before, and sadly would never see again, unless we returned to Peshawar someday. Lo and behold, CARDAMOM HAS GENUINE PESHAWARI NAAN. If you know what this is, take a moment to flag Cardamom as a source to get the real thing right here in Los Angeles. $9 for a generous portion. If you don't know what this is, think twice before you check it out. It is addictively yummy and I'm sure it plays merry hell with whatever healthy-eating regimen you might be pursuing. You have been warned.
Finally, the Masala chai tea. It was good. Really, a perfectly good specimen of its kind. I love tea and Masala chai is one of my favorite desi chais. But $8 is definitely too much to charge for an order of chai that is merely "good".
...hang on, I stand corrected. It was $8 for TWO Masala chai... oh, that's fine. It's a decent $4 chai for sure. A bit too traditional in that they serve it in a traditionally-sized (i.e. small) mug though.
Still, the Khybari Gosht Bhuna! And the Peshawari naan! We are definitely coming back, and bringing our desi friends with us.
Why do buffet when you can experience gourmet?
Sure, there are several good Indian places in Los Angeles. Many offer massive portions or all you can eat buffet... but why do buffet when you can experience gourmet? Cardamom is special.
It's always a delight to visit.
The restaurant is very well designed, check out the gorgeous architectural ceiling.
The employees are charming. I hosted dinner for 16 friends recently and every one made a point of complimenting the service.
The food is wonderful.
After spending several years living in London, I have certain favorites that I haven't found at other Indian restaurants in Los Angeles. The chefs at Cardamom have brought those dishes across the pond and graciously shared them with us. Hint... one of those faves is Peshwari Naan. Try it, you'll love it.
Group Curry
14 of us visited. We knew we could take our own wine and that there was only a nominal corkage charge. Most of us took a bottle, that said the wine on the menu wasn’t expensive!
We enjoyed poppadums and chutney whilst waiting for others to turn up.
We enjoyed a selection of meat and vegetarian starters, including samosa and kebabs.
We ordered our individual mains but rice, nan bread and vegetables were shared.
I ordered chicken curry and when a dish was placed in front of me I was told it was chicken – I placed a large spoonful on my plate, placed a piece in my mouth and realised I had Lamb!! It was changed no problem. I enjoyed my food.
One of the party asked for their curry extra spicy, the chef then made all the same curries extra spicy which meant some people couldn’t eat it. These were changed no problem.
Very reasonable price.
Great food and reasonably priced for a very good restaurant
It has been a while since going here and they have a new chef from London. The food is really good. Had chicken in a coconut curry, shrimp, and fish curry and lamb shank masala tandoor. Wine list has a good selection and is good value. My friends loved it as well. Will be going back more frequently. The garlic naan is hot out of the oven. The sauces (mint yogurt, Tamarind etc) are all very tasty. Highly recommend.

We took a large group of family members to Cardamom. The flavors and after taste were divine. The service exceptional. The owner knowledgeable about spices - whole, ground on the premises. Best family meal!
