Michelin star is well deserved
We had a great experience at this restaurant in Santa Barbara. The 4 course menu was more than enough for us. The chef sent a couple of free samplers that were all delicious! My wife was impressed with the service. One waiter in particular was very knowledgeable about the dishes and also had the patience to explain them to us. It is very frustrating when you go to a fine restaurant for a tasting menu and the waiters seem to be in a hurry. They blur the name of the dish and when you ask them to repeat it they just impatiently blur it out again! Now, if you insist in wanting to know what you are eating, then, they treat like you are some sort of moron. Thanks to the help of the staff I was able to savor sea urchin and oca, which in other restaurant it would have passed as simply good tasting food!
Be the first to ReplyBefitting of a Michelin star, everything is magnificent, including the prices.
Food is sublime. Our group of four had a spectacular dinner with wine pairings with each course. Everything was artfully prepared and professionally served. And delicious. And as you might expect with a Michelin star, frightfully pricey.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible location. Outstanding sunset. Great service. Overrated food. Left hungry.
We did the degustation. The location and setting just doesn't get any better. The staff are wonderful (except for one rather odd guy that never blinked) when talking with you... The food is good but not exceptional. It's all about the location - not the food (sadly). Pricey which is fine and you expect to relish every dish but it's more showy than delectable. Several nearby guests turned down the rabbit as did we. The sunset is outstanding. The people watching equally so. Would go again but prefer an a la carte menu.

If you want fine dining in a beautiful location, this is the place. The venue is beautiful, the food magnificent (with an amazing wine list) and the service was perfect.

My husband and I visited Santa Barbara for our 25th wedding anniversary combined with a business trip. I’m so happy that Caruso’s got on our radar because it was the best dining experience ever and absolutely perfect for our milestone celebration. The location is spectacular, with the sound of waves crashing adding to the ambience. The staff are attentive, warm and friendly and they truly made us feel welcomed and special. Every detail was perfect. The food is next level - both as far as presentation and the beautiful combination of flavors and textures. There is so much attention to detail. It’s truly the most delicious art you’ll ever eat. The Michelin star here is no joke. Caruso’s is in a completely different realm compared to the many fine dining experiences we’ve had over the years and on our travels. Chef Massimo is so gracious and talented and everyone we encountered during this elevated experience was a total pro. We look forward to dining at Caruso’s again when we are in the area.

What a charming and delicious evening! We walked through a rather shiny, fancy hotel..Rosewood Miramar Beach Hotel…then along a beautiful lawn surrounded by flowers. To our surprise we had to cross RR tracks where a train would barrel through at high speed in a matter of minutes. We went down stairs to the lower level which landed us at the restaurant. We sat outside under heaters as we were in the midst (or mist) of June Gloom. Attentive and efficient staff, delicious food with fun names (a dessert called “our bees went to Ojai”. I had strawberry gazpacho which was ok but not memorable. Then ridgeback shrimp cofenetti..fantastic. Cod for main course..excellent sauce and flavoring…dessert as mentioned above..delightful! All the while the tide was advancing and the waves were crashing, kissing us with salt spray. Wonderful!

Birthday dinner. A little tricky to find the restaurant in the hotel spread over expansive grounds, but after that, heaven on meals. (Hint - don't park on Jameson. Find the entrance to the Miramar hotel, and they will take you from there) . Better food and attention than anywhere I have ever eaten (I'm over 70). Won't try to describe the food - their new Michelin star says it all.

Everything is beautiful here: the setting, the food, the service and the patrons. It’s evident that the chef and his sous chefs are painstaking in their level of attention to detail. Everything has been fussed over to the “nth” degree and the plating and presentation is superb. The wait staff is professional but warm and friendly. There’s just one little problem. Sometimes the look of the food far exceeds the taste of the food. At a recent meal three out of four of us didn’t finish our entrees and didn’t want to take our leftovers home. This is a very nice restaurant but when the taste doesn’t match the presentation the whole experience falls a little flat.

Caruso’s was d-licious! IDK why it isn’t ranked higher on TA. Best meal I had during my two week stay in Southern California. It has it all- food, drinks, heaters/blankets if needed, impeccable service and a view! While there is a price fixe 4 course option, I opted for the chefs tasting menu and it was exceptional. 8 courses of smaller bites over 3 hours allowed me to be in the moment and savor the experience. I have a food allergy and chef was able to make accommodations with the tasting menu which I greatly appreciated. The margarita, while pricey, is not to be missed. The courses consisted of an amuse bouche pastry, fish with passion fruit, persimmon burrata, octopus with beans, prawns (think tomato bisque soup with the freshest most tender lobster meat only it isnt, its better), carbonara ravioli, local fish, chicken, and sorbets. The only dish I wouldn’t recommend is the chicken; it was a little tough and a bit salty. Everything else was fantastic. My absolute favorites were the prawns (tender and sweet reminds me of ones I had in Iceland), carbonara ravioli (intense flavor in one bite), and local fish (light and flakey with a crispy top). Lastly, the staff is truly phenomenal. Caruso’s is a definite treat not to be missed during your visit to the area!

Nice restaurant with a gorgeous view on the Ocean. The food is “eccellente” and wine list is superb. The price is fine considering the four courses menu. The staff is very attentive.
Be the first to ReplyGreat culinary experience
Well, it was not just a fine dinner it was an epicurean experience. The ambiance, menu and of course the staff made our anniversary dinner an event that can’t be forgotten. Chem Massimo congratulations, you brought fine dining within reach so I do not have to drive far. Best Regards, Roman Krupa
Be the first to ReplyRESERVATIONS PROBLEM
On 23rd April I made reservation online using restaurants website for a dinner at Caruso’s restaurant. I received email that someone will contact me to confirm it. On 25 April my wife called about the status of the reservation (It supposed to be a special occasion event), all she got is placement on waiting list, with assurance that someone will call. I would be traveling over 50 miles to get there. On 26 April I called again to check status of the reservation, agent was apologizing profusely for the inconvenience, and assuring that he will contact the manager, I asked for an answer within next 30 minutes and if not received I will cancel the reservation. No one called me. I am no longer thinking of dining at Caruso’s, if the treatment a received is a reflection of rest what I can expect when I arrive. It is peculiar that reservation system is not blocking booked time slots, and in “confirmation” email tell that I am on the waiting list.

I had heard from others about the first rate dining experience to expect at Caruso’s. So I went with high expectations. I was surprised to see such limited choices for a $145 pre-fixed menu. And, the food combinations just didn’t work. I was looking forward to the abalone Primi, and felt it was overpowered by the sea urchin…not as was advertised. Could barely find any shavings of abalone in my dish. Main course was the duck breast…or should we say the slab of fatty duck…which was very underdone. Struggled through that. I was equally surprised at their price gouging. When the waiter suggested a Pinot Noir for my duck, and described the three choices, I went with the one with which I was familiar: Sea Smoke. I had this fine wine before, but NEVER expected to be charged $58 for a glass! I also found the decor of the restaurant lacking…it had a mismatch of table styles and chairs; the sliding glass doors seemed flimsy and lacked a quality feel. Overall, very disappointed and see no reason to return.

Hands down the best restaurant in Santa Barbara. You’d need a NASA telescope to see second place. Service was of the highest order (thank you Mauritzio!). The food, I suspect, will soon be on the Michelin radar. An exquisite melding of ingredients, methods and tastes that could go up against the very best of big-cities anywhere. Finally, Santa Barbara has world-class dining!
Oh, and the ocean view is truly spectacular.
Extraordinary Italian at The Rosewood on the Beach
Caruso's is a wonderful experience - if you can't actually go to Italy, your experience at this restaurant will keep you happy. Extraordinary service, brilliant and well executed food and presentation, exhaustive wine list, and all perched on a deck above the ocean. We sat outside during a cold December rainstorm and yet it was warm and comfortable, with an active vibe fed by many happy diners. Understand that this is a very high end fine dining experience - so if you're concerned about the pricing, it's not for you. Having said that, it's worth the cost if you enjoy fine food, impeccable service and an unbeatable location.
Be the first to ReplyHighly recommended fine dining in Montecito. And what an awesome setting!
Executive Chef Massimo Falsini runs a tight ship here with everything the best of the best. Our group had arranged an ultra-special 10-course Italian dinner with 8 different wines selected by Sommelier Daniel Fish. Chef Massimo and Daniel were on hand throughout the evening to personally guide us through each remarkable course. Impeccable service.
A perfect dinner experience with the waves of the Pacific crashing just outside. Highly recommended dining in the Santa Barbara area.
It doesn’t get any better than this!
Back on October 2020 we were hotel guest for my 70th birthday, and I wrote a lengthy very complementary review of the hotel and the restaurants. After four visits to Caruso’s I wanted to write a separate review. We keep coming back, as it is our favorite restaurant not only in Santa Barbara, but the many adjacent cities around LA. Needless to say, that encompasses a number of excellent restaurants, which prepare truly excellent food and service.
But, there is something magical about Caruso’s. It’s as though all the stars have aligned perfectly. The view, sounds of waves hitting the shore, a sea breeze wafting in, an absolutely beautiful and classy decor, service that is friendly but professional that never misses a beat and raises the bar.
Now throw into that mix a chef that truly excels at his trade, and you have the making of an exceptional and one of a kind experience.
It has become a must do each and every time we visit Santa Barbara. If it’s possible to fall in love with a restaurant, I’m head over heels.
Amazing Experience! Service and food outstanding
Caruso’s for a birthday celebration last night was PERFECT! The ocean front atmosphere can’t be get better, but the classy yet comfortable restaurant and service make the evening. Although I’m just an occasional diner there, the Wait staff member, Alejandro, not only remembered me, he remembered how I like my coffee ( heated cream in the cup before the coffee is poured ). Seriously!?! Ordering off the prix fix menu we shared a variety of dishes , (including the must order octopus)and every bite was just amazing. The fillet was the most perfectly cook and seasoned steak I’ve had in years (easily beating out my recent visit to Maestro’s Steakhouse! ) I was reluctant to follow the advise of the waiter to order the cheesecake over other favorites, but it was more than dessert: it was an experience!! Not a hunk of cheesecake but a piece of art with lemon and passion fruit sauces mixing perfectly over a combination of light cream cheese delight. Sharing the lemon dessert and the Johnnie Walker with friends was a perfect ending ( in addition to my coffee!) This was a flawless dining experience! The chef and his staff has outdone himself

It was a night to remember. The food, attentiveness of the staff, location and ambience were perfect and unforgettable. We had the wine curated fixed price menu and it was wonderful. We can't wait to enjoy another evening at Caruso's.

Chef came out to inquire, he was charming and engaging. One of best dining experiences ever, will return
Montecito's Premier Special Occasion Dining Destination
Montecito's premier special occasion dining destination is expensive indeed, but our high expectations were still exceeded. We’ve done our fair share of ocean-view dining. Caruso’s nails the premium seaside experience. Romantic tables for two are closest to the action. Then tables for four. Then larger tables. Then the diner is solidly sitting indoors. For us with our earlier reservation on a perfect cool evening, our view rivaled anything Malibu or the French Riviera have to offer. Our service was professional and unassuming. They are clearly going for a Michelin star-type experience. And with practice, I suspect they will get there. The cocktails were stunningly expensive but certainly unique. The four-course dinner was a delight. Highlights included the Yellowtail Crudo, roasted watermelon salad, Gazpacho, Tagliatelle al Ragu, lamb, and filet. The wine list is thorough but the prices are not for the faint of heart. But seriously, Caruso’s is a premium experience, and premium experiences come at a cost. We will return. Hopefully again and again.

What an incredible stand-out experience we had at Caruso’s. The food, the ambiance, the view, the service — all top notch. Most of all though, a shout out to two folks — the hostess who seated us at the best table, seaside, and Dan, our waiter. Dan is knowledgeable, charming and every recommendation was on point. Thank you to Dan and the entire staff at Caruso’s for the most perfect honeymoon dinner.

We had the best meal and best service in a perfect location. The hardest part was choosing which delicious item to pick for our four courses!
