as a cofc student of going on three years now, i can say that i have been a religious patron of Caviar for my time in charleston. though, i have become increasingly peeved with them for a myriad of reasons. the first and most offensive is the raise in prices and change in product. now listen i understand inflation is a silly little thing affecting all of us right now but to change things to such a violent degree is evil considering a lot of your costumers are 18-22 year olds (and i also do understand that y'all are in the business to make money i get it, but to what extend are we wrongly estimating our value-based pricing?!) A prime example is their most recent bagel vendor switch to Ruby's. Now listen i LOVE Ruby's it is probably the best bagel in this god forsaken town (i am from the north so i am quiet a bagel snob), but the size comparison of a Ruby's store bought bagel and the bagels they sell have a crazy size difference. i know this sounds terribly nitpick-y but it is just one of the very small yet impactful things i have noticed. Additionally, i have noticed a CRAZY difference in the service side of things. now hear me out bc i truly believe food service workers are the real hero's of our society and are most likely underpaid for the work they do therefore improperly incentivized to complete work at constant tempo (pay your workers more). i also recognize that in the past caviar has been known to be a BUMPIN spot so the timeliness instances are only applying to times where i was one of three costumers in the shop and had only ordered a bagel with cream cheese and waited 20 minutes. this comment is not to put down my peers (bc the workers are pretty much all cofc students so i get it) but to raise a question to the manager and owner of caviar. are we right in our current business model or do we need to adjust? i have seen business is slower than it has been in the past few years and i think your most lucrative market (cofc students) are just over paying so much for so little just for convenience sake. now this post is not to ward you all away from caviar bc i will be honestly, if i want a bagel but i am on campus? yeah i'll post up. i want a smoothie? my ass is there. overall i genuinely hope things get better at caviar from a consumers standpoint bc it really is a staple here at cofc!!!
