Cervo's New York Reviews from The Last Year
Introduction to seabream a la planca
Just when I thought Branzino was the best tasting Mediterranean sea bass, I was introduced to seabream a la planca at Cervo's restaurant in New York City's Chinatown neighborhood. Located at 43 Canal Street, Cervo's opened in 2017, an oyster bar and seafood restaurant whose seafood is sourced from New England and whose cooking is inspired by coastal Spain and Portugal. Open daily from 5:30 to 11, weather permitting, diners can enjoy their Iberian meals outdoors on Canal Street from April through October. My wife and I started with olives with paprika, Louisiana white prawns, sourdough bread and Escarole hearts with anchovy and vidiago cheese. For her entree, my wife chose a half chicken with piri piri sauce and fries. Piri Piri sauce? Another Iberian invention, it consists of crushed chiles, lemon, pepper, garlic, salt, onions, bay leaves, vinegar and olive oil. Meanwhile, I was eager to discover what seabream a la planca is all about. I was informed that seabream is widely considered by chefs to be the tastiest of all Mediterranean sea bass, Branzino included. Cooked on a very hot grill, it has a wonderfully clean taste and satisfyingly meaty texture. I was convinced. For dessert, we shared a portion of flan de gueso, a creamy, silky and decadent variation of traditional flan, like cheesecake topped with caramel sauce, and almond cake with sour cherries. I can't wait to see when I will discover seabream on a menu in Chicago.

Great cozy ambiance! The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. They gave us great recommendations. The prawns and piri piri chicken are always my go to. The 50/50 martini is refreshing
I'm only leaving a review because I used to love this place
I'm only leaving a review because I used to love this place but it's terrible now. I walked in on a Tuesday at 645 and was given an 730 out time with a half full bar . Fine. By 705 a check was dropped ( w/o the option of ordering more ) and it included a $5 up charge for the bread the server offered . My bill was $75 for less than 35 mins !! An app and two rushed drinks . I couldn't even finish the last drink w/o plates being picked up. So skip this place there are sooooo many other cooler, nicer, cheaper places to spend your money. AND the bar was still only half full when I left so major avoid if you're black
Solid addition to this fun neighborhood.
Aioli fries: 9/10, shoestring type fries + home made aioli that incorporates extra virgin olive oil, so peppery and refreshing. Soft shell crab asparagus: 8/10, great flavors and like the idea in general, but lumps of crab meat might work better with the bitterness from whole baby peppercorns. Tuna crudo: 8/10, a bit too acidic with pickled onions, very fresh yellow fin. Spicy mussels: 9/10. Sea bream: 10/10 yum same olive oil + acidic sauce with tuna, but it goes well with this lean fish, and the slightly charred green onion adds a sweet and fragrant touch. Flan: 20/10 goat cheese custard with caramel coating. Perfection. BTG whites: not as zesty/savory as expected. Overall we had a great time and would go back!
Food and ambiance was 10/10.
I will say it's pricey for the portion size but not too pricey that you can't have an affordable meal. Really liked the food and will def come back
I feel a little bad writing this, but this was one of the
I feel a little bad writing this, but this was one of the most unimpressive and unenjoyable meals I've ever had in NY. Unfortunately the dishes I had caused a physical reaction of shaking my head 'no' after each dish. The bubbly available by the glass was the first no -- I didn't have the heart to tell our sweet waitress that it was plain bad, so I just went along with it (I don't think I actually finished the glass). This was on me, since I didn't oppose after the original tasting. We had the asparagus starter with crab I think - it was just...alright. Lacking something, and was drowned in olive oil. The crudo on the menu was way too salty because of the many large granules of sea salt atop each fish piece. It was way too salty for consumption, and I could only eat one piece. The shrimp in the shell was the only redeeming thing, and it was a mission to get the shrimp out of its shell, which after the previous dishes made for an experience that left little to be desired. That said, our server was an angel. Likely would only return for a simple cocktail and outdoor seating.
Great service, great food! My daughter's favorite
Great service, great food! My daughter's favorite restaurant & they catered her wedding a month ago.
I've ate all over the world.
Cervo's is right up there in food, quality, and service. Don't stop doing what you do.
Lots to love and not love about Cervo's.
We were here on Friday evening with family and friends to celebrate several special occasions. To love: intimate, vibey LES space; our table for six in the back room was tight, but cozy. Lighting and volume were just right. The cocktails are lovely and thank you for not giving them idiotic in-house cutesy names. Not to love: we started with the "crab croquetaS" because our kiddo was starving--and no that's not a typo with the capitalized S, it's what's on the menu. And while one of us does indeed have a PhD in literature, you don't need much past grade school to know that the "s" means PLURAL. So what comes out on the plate?? A SINGLE croquet. LOLzzzzz. Listen, we don't mind paying $7 for ONE but just keep it freaking singular on the menu. Anyway, we ordered two more and while the flavor inside was nice, the filling was a bit too mushy. The olives are good. The crispy shrimp heads were fantastic (it was our six-year-old's first shrimp head experience!). The sliced beef was delicious. Both salads--the watercress and another one we're forgetting--were bright, acidic, unique, and well-balanced. Our remaining dishes were all lovely as well, but there were temperature issues. All three were barely lukewarm. The bomba rice with razor clams would have been our favorite dish of the night, but nobody appreciates a mouthful of almost cold mollusk and rice. Same issue with the fried skate--it was so nicely fried and we loved it with the escabeche but the fish was not hot (great dish tho). Broken record again, but the seabream, which was so goddam tasty, suffered from the temperature issues. Overall, great food, but something was going awry in the BOH for so many of our dishes to suffer from poor timing/plating. Anyway, we skipped dessert. Service was slightly snooty but mostly efficacious. We had a lovely meal and were happy to be there with our peoples, but we didn't walk out with stars in our eyes. Rounding down to three stars because, for the price, the main fish entrees should come out the right temperatures.
Such a vibe.
Very busy. Great music. Overall so much fun energy. The food was good. Most of the dishes coming out of the little kitchen were solid. If you're looking for a spot that's loud, bustling, dark, cramped, with drinks and dishes whizzing by, this is the place. Shoot for a reservation.

cervo's is such a vibe! it's a cute spanish restaurant in dimes. it's pretty popular. we got a res 2 weeks ahead and sat at the bar. it's primarily shared plates. the seafood is divine - the rock shrimp, oysters, prawns, scallops all were amazing. their white negroni is very balanced and dangerously easy to drink. their wines are also all great! the staff was attentive - they had a closet for our jackets and umbrellas and never let our drinks empty. i'll go again bc there was so much more on the menu i want to try even with as much as we got

Loved this place from the moment I got inside! The vibe, the music, the decor, everything! We were seated in a cool booth, a bit tight, but all good. The service was amazing, so attentive and friendly and helpful. We took many of their food recommendations, and we were blown away. My favorite dish had to be the seabream a la plancha, but I also really loved the fried skate. Our only gripe all night was that the piri piri chicken wasn't really hot when it came out. We were celebrating a birthday and they brought our dessert out with a candle which was lovely. Can't wait to go back!!!
Cute little neighborhood restaurant.
I dream about this cheesecake! We also enjoyed the semolina dumplings, caraway caesar, the pork dish, cucumbers and crispy potatoes. Looking forward to going for brunch and lunch!
They really pack their diners in like sardines at this
They really pack their diners in like sardines at this trendy Lower East Side seafood restaurant. The tables were so small and packed together there was barely enough room for the candle and our wine glasses, let alone the many dishes we ordered to go with said wine. If you squeeze through the entrance and dare elbow your way to a table, the energy in the room is full of knowledgeable gourmands enjoying a little wine and seafood meal, which are my kind of people. Our friendly server guided us through orange and chilled red wines to go along with their seafood menu. We came for the crispy shrimp heads, which are well loved in East Asian cuisine but less so for the Western palate, including mine. I enjoyed the umami richness and the crunch, but it might be an acquired taste for anyone not used to consuming exoskeleton. Ditto for the clams swimming in vinho verde, sopped up with bread bites till the last buttery drop. We also had the tuna conserva and fried skate, but were kind of too full at this point to enjoy them. We definitely over ordered, but its hard to tell how large the dishes would be, and our server barely had any space to be at our table long enough to explain menu items. Wholly unideal, but I know lower Manhattan rents must be insane so you do what you gotta do. I'd recommend anyone wanting to dine here with some room to breathe grab a seat up by the bar, unless you enjoy getting up in your neighbor's business.

The Manila clams were amazing! 5/5 The oysters were also great. My partner and I also had the prawns and we loved them! As for the entrees, we decided that the appetizers were the selling point imo. Service was great, our waitress was very nice and attentive. As for the ambiance it was a little cramped in terms of space. But everything else was nice! Definitely check this place out!
Head on prawns - 5/5 saw everyone order them so we had to
Head on prawns - 5/5 saw everyone order them so we had to do as well! very yummy we are these very quickly Manila clams - 3/5 standard Bread - 2/5 only lower the review as i expected some oil and butter to be paired with it mussels - 3/5 not as yummy as we were expecting it to be. feel like it might taste better as a warm dish we didn't end up ordering enough and once you order you can't add on (the waiter did warn us about this but honestly thought the amount of suggested plates were inflated like most places. if you come here actually order as many as they recommend!). left a bit hungry and unsatisfied as a result. lots of people around us were on dates and would highly recommend for that situation - order some wine and other great offerings!
Went here on a date and it fulfilled my fried shrimp head
Went here on a date and it fulfilled my fried shrimp head dreams. I love the crunchy fried heads you get at Japanese restaurants and always wanted just a giant bowl of the crispy crustaceans and Cervo's does it well. We tried a little of all the small plates and they were all yummy.
Came here on a Tuesday night and it was super busy.
I ended up being late with a nightmare mta commute, but they were pretty accommodating and didn't rush out. The space is pretty crammed with tables of 2 at the front near the bar. The woman behind me kept whacking me with her bag so beware if you need space. I heard there's outdoor seating in the summer so that might be a better time to go or sit at the bar. For food, I would recommend the razor clams and the sourdough with crab! The lamb burger with anchovies was too salty for me. For drinks, the sour was fantastic. It does get kind of loud in here, but overall service was super friendly. They take your coats since there isn't space to put them with the barstools. Price wise it's a bit high, but overall left satisfied!
Best restaurant I’ve been to in NYC
Came here for my husband’s 40th birthday with about 10 friends. I cannot say enough good things about this place - the food was outstanding, ambiance on point, and service exceptional. Don’t miss the sea bass or the smoked eggplant, but truly you can’t go wrong. Will definitely return!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!
Worked so well! I was a bit nervous, but everything went very smoothly. purchased the reservation, and got into the restaurant seamlessly.
Love this app!
So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
