Lots to love and not love about Cervo's.
We were here on Friday evening with family and friends to celebrate several special occasions. To love: intimate, vibey LES space; our table for six in the back room was tight, but cozy. Lighting and volume were just right. The cocktails are lovely and thank you for not giving them idiotic in-house cutesy names. Not to love: we started with the "crab croquetaS" because our kiddo was starving--and no that's not a typo with the capitalized S, it's what's on the menu. And while one of us does indeed have a PhD in literature, you don't need much past grade school to know that the "s" means PLURAL. So what comes out on the plate?? A SINGLE croquet. LOLzzzzz. Listen, we don't mind paying $7 for ONE but just keep it freaking singular on the menu. Anyway, we ordered two more and while the flavor inside was nice, the filling was a bit too mushy. The olives are good. The crispy shrimp heads were fantastic (it was our six-year-old's first shrimp head experience!). The sliced beef was delicious. Both salads--the watercress and another one we're forgetting--were bright, acidic, unique, and well-balanced. Our remaining dishes were all lovely as well, but there were temperature issues. All three were barely lukewarm. The bomba rice with razor clams would have been our favorite dish of the night, but nobody appreciates a mouthful of almost cold mollusk and rice. Same issue with the fried skate--it was so nicely fried and we loved it with the escabeche but the fish was not hot (great dish tho). Broken record again, but the seabream, which was so goddam tasty, suffered from the temperature issues. Overall, great food, but something was going awry in the BOH for so many of our dishes to suffer from poor timing/plating. Anyway, we skipped dessert. Service was slightly snooty but mostly efficacious. We had a lovely meal and were happy to be there with our peoples, but we didn't walk out with stars in our eyes. Rounding down to three stars because, for the price, the main fish entrees should come out the right temperatures.
Be the first to ReplySuch a vibe.
Very busy. Great music. Overall so much fun energy. The food was good. Most of the dishes coming out of the little kitchen were solid. If you're looking for a spot that's loud, bustling, dark, cramped, with drinks and dishes whizzing by, this is the place. Shoot for a reservation.

cervo's is such a vibe! it's a cute spanish restaurant in dimes. it's pretty popular. we got a res 2 weeks ahead and sat at the bar. it's primarily shared plates. the seafood is divine - the rock shrimp, oysters, prawns, scallops all were amazing. their white negroni is very balanced and dangerously easy to drink. their wines are also all great! the staff was attentive - they had a closet for our jackets and umbrellas and never let our drinks empty. i'll go again bc there was so much more on the menu i want to try even with as much as we got

Loved this place from the moment I got inside! The vibe, the music, the decor, everything! We were seated in a cool booth, a bit tight, but all good. The service was amazing, so attentive and friendly and helpful. We took many of their food recommendations, and we were blown away. My favorite dish had to be the seabream a la plancha, but I also really loved the fried skate. Our only gripe all night was that the piri piri chicken wasn't really hot when it came out. We were celebrating a birthday and they brought our dessert out with a candle which was lovely. Can't wait to go back!!!
Be the first to ReplyCute little neighborhood restaurant.
I dream about this cheesecake! We also enjoyed the semolina dumplings, caraway caesar, the pork dish, cucumbers and crispy potatoes. Looking forward to going for brunch and lunch!
Be the first to ReplyThey really pack their diners in like sardines at this
They really pack their diners in like sardines at this trendy Lower East Side seafood restaurant. The tables were so small and packed together there was barely enough room for the candle and our wine glasses, let alone the many dishes we ordered to go with said wine. If you squeeze through the entrance and dare elbow your way to a table, the energy in the room is full of knowledgeable gourmands enjoying a little wine and seafood meal, which are my kind of people. Our friendly server guided us through orange and chilled red wines to go along with their seafood menu. We came for the crispy shrimp heads, which are well loved in East Asian cuisine but less so for the Western palate, including mine. I enjoyed the umami richness and the crunch, but it might be an acquired taste for anyone not used to consuming exoskeleton. Ditto for the clams swimming in vinho verde, sopped up with bread bites till the last buttery drop. We also had the tuna conserva and fried skate, but were kind of too full at this point to enjoy them. We definitely over ordered, but its hard to tell how large the dishes would be, and our server barely had any space to be at our table long enough to explain menu items. Wholly unideal, but I know lower Manhattan rents must be insane so you do what you gotta do. I'd recommend anyone wanting to dine here with some room to breathe grab a seat up by the bar, unless you enjoy getting up in your neighbor's business.

The Manila clams were amazing! 5/5 The oysters were also great. My partner and I also had the prawns and we loved them! As for the entrees, we decided that the appetizers were the selling point imo. Service was great, our waitress was very nice and attentive. As for the ambiance it was a little cramped in terms of space. But everything else was nice! Definitely check this place out!

Head on prawns - 5/5 saw everyone order them so we had to do as well! very yummy we are these very quickly Manila clams - 3/5 standard Bread - 2/5 only lower the review as i expected some oil and butter to be paired with it mussels - 3/5 not as yummy as we were expecting it to be. feel like it might taste better as a warm dish we didn't end up ordering enough and once you order you can't add on (the waiter did warn us about this but honestly thought the amount of suggested plates were inflated like most places. if you come here actually order as many as they recommend!). left a bit hungry and unsatisfied as a result. lots of people around us were on dates and would highly recommend for that situation - order some wine and other great offerings!

Went here on a date and it fulfilled my fried shrimp head dreams. I love the crunchy fried heads you get at Japanese restaurants and always wanted just a giant bowl of the crispy crustaceans and Cervo's does it well. We tried a little of all the small plates and they were all yummy.
Be the first to ReplyCame here on a Tuesday night and it was super busy.
I ended up being late with a nightmare mta commute, but they were pretty accommodating and didn't rush out. The space is pretty crammed with tables of 2 at the front near the bar. The woman behind me kept whacking me with her bag so beware if you need space. I heard there's outdoor seating in the summer so that might be a better time to go or sit at the bar. For food, I would recommend the razor clams and the sourdough with crab! The lamb burger with anchovies was too salty for me. For drinks, the sour was fantastic. It does get kind of loud in here, but overall service was super friendly. They take your coats since there isn't space to put them with the barstools. Price wise it's a bit high, but overall left satisfied!
Be the first to ReplyWaited until midnight when the reservations opened to book
Waited until midnight when the reservations opened to book a table here on a Friday night and it was so worth it! Brought some out of town friends here for dinner and it was definitely impressive. The ambiance is very trendy and moody with a cool & helpful staff! I know the menu changes and we went a while ago but I really don't think you can go wrong. We got oysters, crispy shrimp heads and this eggplant to start. The Eggplant was absolutely amazing and my favorite but it was all great. I also got the 50/50 martini which I liked a little too much. My friends got wine and the waiter was super helpful in talking them through the options and helping pick the right bottle! We also got the fish entree which was amazing and fries which are hard to mess up. Beyond the food/drinks being amazing it's just a great vibe and good people! Highly recommend (if you're lucky enough to snag a reservation).
Be the first to ReplyCervo's is a perfect first date spot.
The lighting is dim (read: flattering), the drinks are unique (I'm not aware of any other place in New York offering a vermouth service) and easy conversation starter, and the food is imminently shareable. I was here on maybe a 1000th date and still had a good time. In terms of food, highly recommend the crispy shrimp heads and the tortilla espagnole. It's hard enough as it is to find shrimp heads outside of Asian restaurants, but the ones here have the added bonus of being done in a way that is designed for consumption. The tortilla is quite unlike any other tortilla I've had, including in Spain, kudos to the basque peppers which give it a bright, acidic flavor. Even more than the food, I thoroughly enjoyed the drinks here. Vermouth is the way to go - they have about half a dozen of options to pick from and you can choose to have it served on the rocks or with club soda, with your choice of garnish. Once you've settled on a particular vermouth, I recommend asking your server how they think it should be served. They have an impressive wine list too that appears to be entirely comprised of Spanish and Portuguese wines, which puts even the top bottles at a decent level of affordability.

I've been coming here roughly once a month since they opened. Sometimes more if my friends are up for it! It's just so, so freaking tasty, the ingredients are so fresh, and they change a few dishes on the menu frequently enough to keep things interesting. The vibe is hip and intimate, the crowd skews young, and it's a joy to watch the chefs work in the open kitchen beside the bar. It honestly shocks me this place hasn't been written up everywhere.I've tried almost everything on the menu at this point, but the standouts for me are:* Prawns a la plancha - butterflied, heavily seasoned, delicious oily spicy sauce. Must order with a side of bread to soak everything up* Tomatoes with rock shrimp - not on the menu as of this review, but they will often do different variations of this dish throughout the year, sometimes without the rock shrimp* Golden rice - not on the menu as of this review, but they'll cycle this one in every once in a while - sometimes with delicious fresh tomatoes, sometimes with lobster (my favorite)* Piri piri chicken - huge, heavily seasoned, unbelievably moist, with a large pile of fries on the side. Sometimes I'll literally just get this and call it a day lolTheir vermouth service is fun and tasty with the Emilio Lustau cocktails being my favorite - always with soda and an olive! Their wine selection obviously skews very Iberian so don't come here expecting the usual French/Italian stuff! They're on Resy, but if you can't get a rez you can always put a name down and the wait will generally be less than an hour. Even when they quote an hour, I usually get the "table ready" notification after around 30 minutes. No place is perfect and I have a few criticisms after dining here so many times:1) The vast majority of seating is bar/high-top, and the seats don't have backs. Can be uncomfortable if you have back issues. There are a handful of highly-coveted, standard tables in the back - in all the times I've eaten here, I've never been seated at one lmao!2) The bar can get really loud. Sometimes large groups will stand around drinking and shouting, which is super annoying and also kinda weird cuz I wouldn't come here just to drink hahaha3) A certain staff member will be REALLY pushy about ordering 5-7 dishes. That's a ridiculously large amount of food. When I come here with my partner, we usually share 2 starters and a main (+ bread and drinks) and that's more than enough for us. Don't let the one bad egg pressure you into over-orderingSide note: The bread is from Mel Bakery across the street - specifically their country loaf. If you live in the area, PLEASE patronize them. They're fantastic and you can pick up the country loaf for $10
Be the first to ReplyWe typically love everywhere esp places rated this high.
It was rotten tonight and bread was stale.
Be the first to ReplyLove Cervo's.
Have had some great meals here before, but the most recent was particularly enjoyable. We've found we prefer sticking to the smaller plates, the swordfish conserva this time was particularly delicious and the shrimp heads are always the move (funky, briny, and crunchy). Add a few glasses of vermouth or sherry to your meal and you'll feel like you're in Spain. The room is always buzzing and dimly lit -- the fun is palpable.
Be the first to ReplyEverything was delicious here.
None of us could agree which dish was our favorite because they were all so good. My personal favorite was the mussels. The surprise favorite was the deep fried sourdough with tuna. Josh made us amazing drinks (loved my old fashion and still on the hunt for my own amaro bottle - Essex was sold out). What a fantastic evening!

What a unique and amazing meal! Most of the menu is smaller plates, which I honestly usually find a waste of money. At many restaurants you order a few, find yourself paying almost regular portion prices and you're still hungry. Here, we ordered 4, were completely full and satisfied and came out paying less than we normally would at many restaurants these days. We ordered first the spicy mussels escabeche which I am told is a signature dish. Excellent cooked mussels, one of my favorites. We then got the Tuna conserva, which, honestly, I was initially not thrilled about when they told us it was like tuna you eat on the sandwich with mayo but was pleasantly surprised when it was delicious with a slight vinegar flavoring along with radishes and smoked cheese. We also got the Louisiana White Prawns a la plancha which were delicious and even the shells were edible. Finally we got the lobster rice. Top to bottom this was an excellent meal. I washed this all down with one of their delicious cocktails. I have a tiny complaint that the waitress insisted we get bread which i thought was just an unnecessary upsell and not necessary, but all in all this was a spectacular meal.
Be the first to ReplyEverything is delicious but I don't go any more because
Everything is delicious but I don't go any more because they've crammed so many extra seats at the bar that you literally have to sit sideways to lift a fork. The hostesses have become very aggressive too. Their only concern now is to push in as many bodies in as possible, like Tokyo subway workers, and to turn the seats as quickly as possible. Even if you go early now, you're informed how soon they'll need your seat back.I don't understand the logic where the same restaurants that are allowed to double their capacity for free by taking over streets and sidewalks can also increase their seating to uncomfortable and unhealthy levels inside. If you're now stuffing more people inside than ever before, what is the health rationale for giving up public space so you can add an extra 40 seats outside? Makes me feel like a chump for all the times I came to buy things I didn't need in 2020 to help keep them going.
Be the first to ReplyThe vibes and the seafood are immaculate.
Cervo's does a really good job of pairing seafood with different sauces and flavors in each of their dishes. I have a hard time describing exactly what flavors I tasted, but they were all good. Golden rice with lobster: We ended up ordering two of this dish because it was so good and one portion was not enough for 5 people. Clams: pretty good, but prob my least favorite dish that we ordered (which doesn't mean that it wasn't good)Fried skate wing: fried tender fish with some tomatoes, very good Crispy shrimp heads: Definitely intimidating if you aren't accustomed to eating shells/shrimp heads but I enjoyed itLouisiana white prawns: Super tender and you can eat the shells but I prefer not toFrench fries: solidI would recommend ordering some bread to dip in the sauces in each dish. It is definitely more difficult to get a reservation here, and while they do have first come first serve outdoor seating, the wait tends to be pretty long. However, I think it's absolutely worth it!

I had been trying to go to Cervos for over a year before I finally was able to snag a table. As a huge fan of Portuguese food and wine, I couldn't have been more excited. Cervos definitely lived up to those expectations! The wine selection and food menu were both superb. Our personal favorites were the shrimp heads (my new absolute favorite appetizer) and peri peri chicken. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone and will be coming back as soon as I can manage to get another reservation!
Be the first to ReplyJust so good.
So fucking good. Some of the most sophisticated food in New York City. I am blown away by my meal. Tuna Conserva, the classic prawns - delicious. Messed up tasty. This changed the way I look at New York City. Dimes square is a meme, but also a moment. This food nourishes the soul. A bright light. Til next time.

Cervo's is a small but classy and cozy restaurant on the edge of Chinatown. My friend and I had been eating a LOT of asian food recently and we wanted to try a different cuisine so after finding this restaurant on The Infatuation, we wanted to come! I was excited we were able to get in even without a reservation on a Saturday dinner and we were seated on the side looking out the window.Their menu has a small selection, which honestly attracted me to the restaurant initially, because it's like you know everything is gonna be good since they've perfected each dish. Upon recommendation from our waiter, we ordered the Spicy mussels escabeche and I ordered the Fried skate wing with spring peas as my entree. Additionally, we ordered the Fried sourdough with tuna conserva and sweet onions to share and my friend got the Black bass with cherry tomatos and spinach. Overall, the spicy mussels and fried sourdough were the star of the show, like AMAZING, especially the fried sourdough. The spicy mussels were really fresh and just delicious. They are served cold, which typically isn't my cup of tea (and I think I would've liked it more if it was warm but this is just personal preference), but were still very good and would order again. HOWEVER, the fried sourdough was so unexpectedly delicious. We picked it kind of randomly since we just wanted bread and there aren't many people mentioning it in the yelp reviews. But, it was honestly kind of mindblowingly amazing and the best dish of the night. The bread is so nice and crisp and not soggy at all from the tuna. I was also worried the tuna was gonna have a fishy taste, but this wasn't the case at all, and it was really savory and warm. Then the onions I think were pickled, so all the flavors together was just seriously great, and my friend and I were talking about coming back and just ordering 5 of them as a meal lol. With the entrees, I think since we got them right after the sourdough, it was hard to eat something that measured up. Both the dishes looked beautiful and tasted decent I'd say, but definitely not as great as the apps. I think the fried skate wing was cooked nicely, very tender, with a nice tangy flavor but got a bit oily as you kept eating. However, overall I would love to come back and try the oysters, clams, and get more of that sourdough and tuna!!
Be the first to ReplyGot Lucky and scored a late night table with 2 friends.
We ordered several dishes to share, and were blown away. Every dish was incredibly tasty. The mushroom dish was a little underwhelming, our favorites were the prawns and the tuna dish.Overall this was a phenomenal meal, we walked out super full and inspired by the culinary experience. Will be returning here!

Don't get why this place pops up on random NYC restaurant lists. Everything is average or below average. Seafood restaurant but everything is either difficult to eat or just overseasoned. There is zero finesse on the cocktails or dishes. This is just a neighborhood joint at best. Go if you must but this is NYC, there are many many better options.
