Good choice
A good choice in downtown Palo Alto-- nice new building and good food. A good choice if you are in the area.
Be the first to ReplyGREAT SETTING AND EXTREMELY OVERPRICED MEDIOCRE FOOD
Lots of outdoor tables. Beautiful inside and out. Good service. Most entrees do not come with a side dish - so everything is a la carte. A personal sized pizza is $25. Chicken was tasteless. Side order of fries was soggy & greasy. I know prices have gone up everywhere, but there are so many better choices than this to eat. I wonder what will be the next restaurant in this space?
Be the first to ReplyExpensive mediocre food
The server seemed annoyed we took our time ordering the cocktails and made a snaky comment. The food was crazy expensive and just average. I did enjoy my risotto, the only memorable dish from the 4 entrees and 3 appetizers we ordered.
Be the first to ReplyOver priced, average food, no ambiance
We have eaten here several times hoping it would improve. I give it a big yawn. Food is very average but over priced. Nothing very inventive on menu. Good service. Very blah, plain ambiance. We went there one night when they had live jazz. It was like elevator music. I think that sums it up for me.
Be the first to ReplySeveral things missing here...
Executive summary: missing grace, the gin, wine, vegetable, and dessert we ordered, all of which were on the menu. Once seated, they seemed to be in a hurry for our drink order. "OK we'll have two Boodles Martinis, up, with twists, no olives please." Maybe just prompt, rather than pushy. The come back to take our order for dinner and seem annoyed that we thought we'd wait for cocktails before ordering. Definitely pushy. Martinis come with EXTRA olives, no twists. My dining companion asks for a do over but they are out of Boodles. OK, we'll do something else. But they they don't have the wine we order. And then the "French" green beans, even though they are 100 yards from a Safeway, or a Draegers. Or the creme brulee. Now if you took the adjectives toff of the menu, they would have 4-6 choices each for starter, main, and dessert. So why run out of everything? Portions on the small side for eveything but the check.
Be the first to ReplyThe butternut bisque is to die for
We were at Cetrella for a corporate holiday event, and my husband had the butternut bisque rather than the usual salad as he has serious food allergies. He exclaimed over the bisque - he is rarely excited by restaurant food - and insisted I try it. The bisque has a smoky flavor note, which I at first thought was chai, but now believe may have been sage. It had an excellent balance of flavor notes, and excellent mouth feel. The only negative is that there wasn't enough of it!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food at a price
We dined here with a group of friends during the busy Christmas season. The restaurant was surprisingly empty. We had the duck, Filet Mignon and the special of the day: Paella. The duck came in a very delicious sauce, but that is all. The Filet Mignon is literally a piece of meat on a plate decorated with a few garlic cloves. The Paella was definitely the best choice: mussels, shrimp, chicken and a good amount of the rice mixture underneath. The triple chocolate dessert was amazing. The ambience is great, you can actually have a conversation. Parking is available underground in the garage. All in all a great evening, but be prepared to order a lot of sides. No bread service. I won't make this a regular destination.

Be the first to ReplyNice Ambiance and service and Pretty Good Food
We revisited Cetrella after 2-3 years with friends. It was a Thursday night at 7:30 pm. We were one of three tables occupied from when we entered to when the place closed. bit eerie. Three of us had glasses of wine. My Pinot Noir was really good at $15. The Caprese salad special was disappointing, comprised of eighth tomato quarters of not juicy ripe tomatoes and firm mozzarella. Not enough seasoning either for me. The gazpacho, which had almonds as part of it was a bit bitter and not refreshing as I thought it might be. I had the simple salmon, which was small for the money, but really really good. Perfectly cooked and simple salt and pepper.. We had sides of green beans and Brussels sprouts. The former was fine, but the latter was really flavorful and yummy. Given the level of competition now in Los Altos, I wonder if this place is having trouble keeping up.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place for a birthday/anniversary party!
My kids just surprised my hubby and I with our birthday and 50th anniversary party. We were in a private back of the restaurant and had lots of space and excellent service. There were 56 of us! The food was very good. It started with beautiful salad then, served family style we had salmon, short ribs, potatoes, Brussel sprouts and lots of wine. There were hand passed appetizers first but I was too busy to try them! Dessert was either panacota or chocolate torte. All was very good!
