Delivers Every Time
Chaplin is a favorite haunt. The ramen varieties are eclectic but I tend to go more tradition the stamina chasu with extra chasu and bamboo shoots. We also tend to go for the karage chicken which is on point. For the first time we tried dessert and we were very satisfied. We like seats outside rather than the noisy indoor atmosphere.

Had a delicious meal at Chaplin's with colleagues. We were well advised on which starters to take to share. The atmosphere in the restaurant was good. Staff friendly. The food tasty.

Payday Injected Dumplings…. Expensive for what you get. $16 for 4 small not well flavored dumplings. Would not recommend

Let me preface this by saying that I’ve lived in DC for over 10 years and dined at this establishment many times. The quality of service and staff has declined so significantly and I had to share my experience.
Both hostesses at the front of the restaurant, along with the manager, were incredibly rude to both me and my party. We checked in at 7:25p for a 7:30p reservation and were still not seated by 8:00p.
I asked the manager multiple times when our table will be ready and his verbatim response was, “You want me to yell at the people sitting at the table to leave?” All I wanted was clear communication and respect as someone who was planning to dine at the restaurant.
Then, when we got seated, the waitress approached us with such coldness, as if she wanted to be anywhere else but there. We asked for Casamigos for our drinks and she acted like we asked for cough syrup. Her immediate response was, “We DON’T have Casamigos,” without any solution.
The cherry on top (and the reason we left before even dining) is that a member of my party has a severe tree nut allergy. We asked her to check with the kitchen to ensure that there wasn’t any cross contamination. Her response was, “I guess let me see what I can do.” Absolutely awful and lacked any ownership of the guest experience.
I wish I could’ve given this experience a 0 star. Will never be returning.
Excellent quality, comedy service
Delicious Asian food, with a twist...
We had a good laugh about receiving the wrong starters and watching a second embarrassing series of faux pas among the waiting staff at the next table.
My thai curry had real depth of flavour, tasted fresh and aromatic and plenty of heat; it hit the spot after a day's drive from Montreal.
My wife had 2 starters, the gyozo being crispy and succulent, and was also satisfied
Oh, they also failedto send them together, though we made it clear her starters were instead of a main.
Great value...and, when charged 12.5% service, we weren't sure whether to demand a refund or an encore.
PS - we'd definitely go again!
The food is really well done.
The food is really well done. Chaplin ASS is the best bowl of noodle & soup i have ever had. Outdoor dining when in season. LLove in NY bis awesome
Be the first to ReplyTrendy and Moody
Trendy and moody interior- black lacquered textured walls and gothic looking high backed chairs. Dark and very loud.
The shrimp gyoza are great. The filling is ground extremely fine and smooth. The cocktail list is fun- one drink comes with a warning that is numbs your lips and another is served with a branch of rosemary (?) that the waiter torches table side. Good ramen and entrees.
Good Ramen
Was on vacation in Dc and was looking for best Ramen, I found an article about another place called Toki Underground which only sat about 20 people and I had a group of 10 on a Saturday night. So that wasn’t going to work, googles other options and Luckily came across Chaplin’s. The place doesn’t resemble your traditional Ramen places but the food sure didn’t disappoint l!! Not sure how much better other place was But I am glad we came to Chaplin’s the fried chicken appetizer was great to share and great flavor. I got the spicy ramen which would definitely recommend you try!!

Chaplin's. No matter how much you read the reviews. Looked at the menu. Upon walking up and into this restaurant, I am sure you will be just as confused as I was. Thought you were going for Ramen eh? In no way shape or form does this restaurant resemble ramen places you've tried in the pass. Outside. Super modern, black and sleek. Inside. Greeted by an actively popping popcorn machine. (Which I am confused about because I did not see anyone actually eating said popcorn, and when asked if I could "order" popcorn for my 3 kids was presented with one very small baggy of it.) Unfortunately I forget my waiter's name, although he was excellent, and also the only person in the whole restaurant that acknowledged us, or gave us any eye contact, smile, confirmation we were actually patron of this establishment. Decor was attractive. I would describe it as a modern take on a speak easy.
We ordered.
Fried Wontons (order came with 4) Delicious, but basically the Crab Rangoons you get from the Chinese takeout, but absurdly more expensive.
Tori Karaage ( Plate to share ) SO SO SO good! As my son said, "This fancy chicken nuggest is so good!"
Chicken Yakisoba (Plate to share) Underwhelming.
As for the ramen. We ordered
Miso (meh. Pretty colorless)
Chapling (interesting plating, was enjoyed)
Stamina Spicy ( Delicious but plated terribly. Literally looked like bagged spicy Korean ramen you make yourself at home. There was 2 orders of this and both looked the same.
All chatsu in ramen was also underwhelming. All "stamina" or soft cooked egg that came with order was only 1/2 and egg. Essentially you lose all reason as to adding it to your bowl in the first place. It was drowned and unidentifiable.
Great food
Really good and varied Asian food choices. Varieties of raman particularly good. Atmosphere great if you like vibrant and noisy.
Be the first to ReplyMy favorite bar in American - and the best Ramen in the USA too!
Love this place! Amazing cocktails, awesome whisky list and fabulous staff. Love love love the Ramen! Some of the very best Ramen in the entire USA.
This place is busy but it’s so much fun it’s always worth visiting :-)
A noisy restaurant with poor service and distinctively average food
This is a noisy restaurant where the food is OK with an emphasis on quantity rather than quality. If the women in your party are happy queuing for the loo and wiping the seat after the last male guest you have chosen the right restaurant.
