Spent $200 on a takeout meal only for the entire meal to not be in the order when it arrived. Steaks were great but for a meal that expensive it needs to all be there. Truffle fries had zero truffle taste and a million sprigs of rosemary for some reason. Really jonesing for crab cakes and they were missing from the meal. When we called they said they couldn't do anything about it unless we wanted to pick it up ourselves. Being a small business owner myself I would've driven the missing item over myself since it was my own fault the order wasn't complete. Won't be coming back again.

It comes as no surprise when when I see on yelp that Char has only 3 stars.... quality is not good, drinks are full of mixers, and service is not knowledgeable; but nothing is worse than a defensive, unprofessional, and poor customer focused manager (James). I wanted to love it, but the rubber seafood, poorly cooked steak and amateur drinks- this place is a pass, look elsewhere- there is better out there. Friends of ours were very sick from eating at Char a couple weeks ago, I get it now.

Service terrible Food terrible Delmonico steak tough, full of tendons and nerves.Lobster Mac and cheese with raw bacon a piece of lobster that a Rockwell hardness tester would have been able to test the tenderness or should I be saying hardness. The restaurant is trying to be something it is not. They should stick to burgers and fries.
Be the first to ReplyI have never had a warm meal for 400 dollars in my life.
When I addressed my concerns about the meal I got an "I'm sorry" and thats it. Meal wasn't correctly cooked and was an overall disappointment, you can get a better steak at any local diner or chain restaurant... not worth the trendy hype at all.

Nice looking place, I went there on superbowl Sunday for a birthday celebration and place was completely empty. In a way it was good because we definitely had privacy, in other way was a bit odd only us a another 2 people was there.Food was good, wine options also good but very limited in cocktails selection.Decor was pleasant but this restaurant less attractive feature is the price $$$.Food Menu somehow limited and service was ok,definitely pricey compared to other places. 4 people lunch with only a bottle of wine, run a tab to $400..
Be the first to ReplyVery nice restaurant.
Great choice for a special occasion or anytime. Moderate to pricey but you get a good bang for your buck. Service is great and dishes(and steaks) are prepared to your liking.

Saw mixed reviews about this restaurant and have to say I'd dine there again. The staff was top notch to start and extremely attentive and knowledgeable. My steak was cooked to perfection and darn near melted in my mouth. Sounds silly but even the baked potato with just butter tasted better than most establishments. Obviously little pricey but you pay what you get and was worth it.
Be the first to ReplyIt was the worst service I have ever experienced.
The food was ok. Our waiter had to be flagged down for us to order and shortly after that he disappeared. When the manager noticed that we were waiting for the bill. He came over brought us the bill. Did not ask if everything was ok. He obviously did not want to engage and did not care. As we were leaving our waiter miraculously appeared. He said hope you enjoyed your evening. I couldn't even look at him. I would never ever recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyPlace is really nice.
The food was really good. The service was excellent. It was extremely noisy which does make it Ddfficult to have a conversation. Also a bit pricey for steak. Next time I want steak I'll go back to Longhorn.
Be the first to ReplyWe were looking forward to celebrating a special occasion
We were looking forward to celebrating a special occasion here on a Saturday, and had reservations for 1:15pm. When we got there, precisely on time, the doors were locked. Thankfully, a restaurant across the street accommodated us, and we watched as someone unlocked the front doors at Chat a few minutes later. Not actually being open during the hours you advertise - and at which people have bookings - is not a sound business practice. As an aside, have eaten there before. Food was great, ambiance was noisy and hectic. Perhaps they have chronic staffing issues. Again, not sound business practice.
Be the first to ReplyWent here Friday for a coworkers 50th birthday.
Wasn't my choice to eat here on a Friday during Lent though. But went anyway. They weren't busy probably because of it being a Lenten Friday. We went to the bar first as we waited for 3 more people from our party to arrive. We ordered a round of drinks while waiting. I ordered a scotch old fashioned, asked for Glenlivet 15, they only had 12. Disappointment already. You'd think a place like this would have 15. This might've been my least favorite old fashioned I've ever had and only drank it because I didn't want to waste it. The food and appetizers were good. Wouldn't say great. I have to say though, my steak was cooked perfectly. Hot pink center. We love hot pink centers, don't we? The seasoned fries as a side were the best side for me. We tried creamed spinach, and mashed potatoes as well. Have to say though, the staff was excellent. Our server Milena, was very attentive & personable as well as the rest of the staff. Might've been the best experience there. The prices are a little too much for this place & what you get. We were better off staying in Staten Island and going to a local spot. But it's Red Bank & you pay for the area. Should've gone to Red Rock down the block and paid less for a better evening of food & drinks.

Meatball appetizer delish! Ribeye was perfectly seasoned and cooked! Best meal of the night. Filet mignon and lobster could have been better. Filet was bland extremely lack luster, lobster saved the dish. Mushroom buttons were boring wish we picked a better side or an appetizer as a side. Very expensive be prepared. We had a sweet waitress didn't get her name but she was a total foodie ! Drink was awesome. It was called chargarita

Good food can only be enhanced by the server.. Pierre is excellent!

Char was a significant disappointment, primarily caused by an interaction with one of the floor managers. My New York sirloin was overcooked (I asked for medium-well and the steak came out well done); a steakhouse should be able to cook to the correct temperature. Upon notifying the waiter, the floor manager came over, pulled out her iPhone flashlight to inspect my steak, and told me that she saw pink in the meat (it was entirely grey). She further explained what constitutes meat temperatures in a patronizing manner; I was embarrassed for her as she sounded foolish. The manager lacked the professionalism and decorum required for the service industry. She was condescending and rude and a poor representation as management for any organization. My wife and I have spent years in the hospitality industry as restaurant managers. This manager lacked the skill and competency to address my initial concern. Instead, she made the situation worse, causing my wife and me to leave our anniversary dinner without finishing our meal as we were appalled by the manager's behavior.I would never recommend Char Steakhouse to anyone and will go out of my way to highlight the poor service received.

This place is over priced and the food and atmosphere did not impress me. Service was okay but prices for drinks are just not worth it. My wife had a Cosmopolitan and I had a Manhattan - price was $15.95 for each. Both of us felt the same about our drinks and that was that we have tasted better drinks than this. We each had a salad with our dinner and the greens were a little wilted. Overall we left there feeling like it was a waste of money. I wish I would have read all the reviews before coming here. My wife and I will likely not eat here ever again. There on line menu has no prices so you are tricked by that. If you want a sauce for your steak it cost extra. If you want a side of asparagus, it cost 11.95, if you want spinach it was 8.95 as all the sides for any dinner are extra and just not worth it.
Be the first to ReplyTheir medium seems to be more medium-well.
I was somewhat on a time-crunch so I didn't bother asking for another steak or complaining that it was over-cooked. Next time, I'll certainly ask for it medium-rare and (hopefully) that should justify the price. Everything else was great: service was on-point; ambience was great.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful Restaurant.
Good size tables. Steaks were tender but for a "Cowboy Ribeye" - 3/4" thin! Where's The Beef my friends? Sides were very good. Lobster tail side was also on the skimpy side. Seafood Tower was extremely sparse, practically nothing on the tray! They need to step it up! Wouldn't go back. Too many excellent steak houses that give you a good meal for the buck. And at these prices - come on man! Sometimes you get what you pay for - in this case - it's the opposite.

There are better choices for the amount of money you will spend on a meal here. I prefer Peter Luger or Wolfgang much better for similar price.

The food, the service. Top notch. Every time. Would give it 6 stars if I could.
Be the first to ReplyIt was ok.
It's in down town Red Bank so in a nice area. The ambiance was a little off. Service was very good. Food was ok but not amazing. I don't think I would go back.
Be the first to ReplyThis was our second visit here.
Our first visit several months ago did not go well (overcooked steak, dry bland salmon, overcooked lobster, one person in our group never got entree) so we were given a gift card by management. So we decided to sit at the bar and order more casually. We splurged on seafood tower for two which was a colossal waste of money: half a small lobster, a few tiny clams and oysters with shells barely larger than a quarter, meager crabmeat. Because that was a disappointment we decided to just split a burger rather than do entrees. Ordered it medium rare and of course it came out well done and dry, not even any pink to it. We've given this place a fair chance and it's been bad both times. So sub par for an expensive place.
Be the first to ReplyFoods good.
Not as good as they charge. Had a reservation last night . Waited 30 minutes longer to get seated. Had to ask the hostess , one of the four, what the delay was. We had a party of 8 and the bill was $1000. Standing there waiting in lobby , not once does a manager come by and say anything. And it wasn't super busy , and plenty of staff, just no urgency. Been there before and it was better. Our waiter Eric was good and food came out in good time.
Be the first to ReplyThe 3 hosts stood around with a not so good attitude.
First impression is huge in my opinion. My waiter was very attentive. I ordered the tomahawk steak medium rare, lobster tail, Cesar salad, and cheese cake. Salad was great. Lobster tail and tomahawk was cooked to perfection. Cheese cake was very good.
Be the first to ReplyWow what a disappointment!I wouldn't even rate it one star.
We went there for dinner thinking we'd have a great dinner & wow what a big let down! Steak not cooked to our request. My hubby ordered a medium rare steak, over cooked and tough! When telling the waitress she took her cell phone and put her flashlight on the steak as if we didn't know what the steak should look like! And we ordered steamers for our appetizer, I guess they don't know what steamers are because they were not steamers they were clams that were steamed so much for that... The spinach and mashed potatoes didn't think you could screw that one up but oh my God horrible! We will never be coming back to this restaurant again that's all I can say.. I knew we should have stuck to Gabriellas steak house as we always get a superb meal there! I'm so sorry we didn't go there for a great steak dinner!!I do not recommend this place at all! One would think a high end steak house would be a great meal but boy we we wrong on picking this place!!!
Be the first to ReplyIt was a really frustrating dinner.
Steak was blend and overpriced. All menu was ala carte, so you paying for everything. For the price of the food the garments should be included. Been Brazilian I can do better steak at home. Also cheaper!
