Just had a great meal at here, and I've got to mention their Steamed Yellow Croaker and Sweet Osmanthus Rice Cake! The croaker was cooked perfectly, with really fresh flavors. And that rice cake was sweet, fragrant, and just delicious. Portions were good, atmosphere cozy, and service was on point. Only thing to note was the wait for a table was a tad longer than expected. But if you're in for a treat, definitely give these dishes a try!
Be the first to ReplyWe came here very spontaneously on a Wednesday night.
Luckily, we did not have to wait to be seated, but there were a lot of people at 6:30pm. If we had come later, we would have had to wait. The food here is delicious and has a nice range of different, unique flavors. None of the dishes were too salty or too bland--very nicely seasoned and balanced. Not pictured are the Shanghai stir-fried noodles and orange-steamed eggs (we ate before the camera did), which were also delicious. The portions for the noodles and tenderloins are really big, so definitely share with other people! Our server was very friendly and gave us great recommendations from the menu. The service was quick and efficient, which is always appreciated, especially at busy restaurants. Cheli fully leans into Chinese decor, complete with wooden structures, Chinese calligraphy, and red lantern lamps that give off nice ambient lighting. It feels authentic without feeling "touristy." It's quite spacious for a restaurant in Manhattan, so you feel at ease and not cramped alongside other customers. Whether you come here with a small group of friends or a date, make sure everyone is ready to eat!

Having eaten Jiang nan cuisine growing up (although I'm an American so maybe this doesn't mean much lmao), this spot has become one of my favorites in the city. Don't expect large portions for cheap like your typical Chinatown restaurant but if you're looking for a nice sit down restaurant I really think the experience is worth it! We made a reservation thankfully bc the wait can get p long otherwise. Ordered pear juice for drinks which I really liked bc it def tasted like smth I'd drink in China, and was only slightly sweet. For food we got the braised pork belly, fried pumpkin cubes with salted duck egg yolk, eel, wine soaked chicken, and green beans. I loved every dish but my favorites were the pork belly and pumpkin cubes. Pork belly was so extremely melt in your mouth and not too salty (btw if you're not familiar with southern Chinese cuisine, the pork belly may be sweeter than you're used to). The salted duck egg yolk on pumpkin was FIRE like I need to be adding salted duck egg yolk on everything now tbh. Service was wonderful, everyone was super attentive, and decor was vibey af. Can't wait to come back and try more dishes!
Be the first to ReplyVery good Chinese food in New York.
We ordered Longjing shrimp and Hangzhou Brasied duck. Kind of sweet, but I like it. The environment and service were also good.

It's my first time try Zhejiang Cuisine, and it is way better than my expectation. We ordered the bamboo shoots soup, house special frogs, and grilled boneless beef ribs. Nothing is left but the plates lol. It makes my NY trip more memorable!

As someone who grew up in Shanghai, I'm so glad to be able to enjoy authentic Shanghai cuisine here. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere, it's not too noisy, and the service is very attentive. My favorite is the Wine-Soaked Chicken; it's the taste of my hometown. I'm always excited to bring my friends here and share the delicious food from my hometown.

I want to eat Jiangnan specialty dishes! I recommend you to come here. Every time you go to New York on business, you have to come here because there are too many delicious foods. Do not miss the crispy Roast squab Yangzhou lion head. The boss is very nice
Be the first to ReplySolid 4 stars.
I was more impressed with the food this time - everything we got ranged from good to great. We got: Sweet & sour short pork ribs - This was solid. I wasn't expecting it to be cold but it worked - sauce wasn't too sweet and ribs were tasty. Soup dumplings - solid soup dumplings, not a must get but they weren't bad Qianlong's favorite eel - Love wrapping up the eel in the thin pancakes with cucumber and scallions. Steamed dungeness crab with steamed egg and minced crab meat - This was a full crab perched on top of steamed egg. Very tasty and flavorful dish although be prepared to work for your crab meat. Braised pork belly with quail egg in chef special sauce - I was surprised how much I liked this, pork belly was tender and I really really liked the quail eggs. Might have been my favorite dish of the night. Green tea milky rice cake - This is hidden in the dim sum instead of dessert section but it's a really good dessert. Not too sweet with just the right mix of milk powder / matcha on top of the glutinous rice. If you (like me) like the traditional dim sum version of this dish (usually covered with peanut / black sesame), then don't miss this modern take (although maybe not the best value dish at $18).
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambiance (old village vibes) and amazing food.
We got xlb (top favorite in the city), fried pumpkin, fish stew, and white pepper beef tofu. Fish strew as a perfect blend of numbing spice with hints of sour. I would highly recommend coming here if you like Chinese food. I love xIb (soup dumplings) and have tried many I'm the city. Eating this one here reminded me of my time in Shanghai and Taiwan. It is legit!

They offered great presentation as attached but food is average grade for me. Will try one more time.

Came here for a date night and became one of my favorite restaurants in New York City. I wasn't too familiar with Chinese restaurants, but this was an amazing introduction to the cuisine. The atmosphere, service, and food were beyond expectations. We went to the St. Mark location as a walk-in and were seated pretty quickly. 1. Braised Pork Belly: Definitely my favorite. It was a perfect balance of sweet and savory and wished there were more of it. 2. Sweet Osmanthus Rice Cake: Wasn't a huge fan of it, but everyone else seems to like it.3. Eggplant in Garlic Sauce: Haven't had that many eggplant dishes, but this was so delicious. I took the leftovers back home and ate them with rice and it was even better the next day.4. Fried Sliced Pumpkin w. Duck Egg Yolk: This came as a pleasant surprise because I didn't know pumpkin and duck egg could go so well together. It could get a little heavy when eaten a lot of it, but this is the one that I always crave and think about.

My favorite Shanghainese restaurant town! I live the beautiful interior design and all the Chinese elements inside the restaurant. Great space and cozy seatings. There's usually a wait line but they always tell you the estimated wait time and you can leave the restaurant once you put your name + phone down. Food-wise I'm impressed. They've done a great job on food art and I love how they make sure most of the dishes are beautifully presented.
Be the first to ReplyCame here expecting strict Shanghainese food, but the food
Came here expecting strict Shanghainese food, but the food is not just strictly Shanghainese. It's mostly not Shanghainese and from the other southern provinces of China. Food: overall very solid Chinese food (4.5/5). I'm Chinese so I'm usually pretty particular about my Chinese food.1. Drunken chicken- flavor was spot on, but the chicken had too much bones :( it was kind of difficult and annoying to eat 2. Pork belly- this is one of their most popular dishes, and the pork belly was cooked to perfection they really got the flavors down as well 3. Pickled fish- the portion of this was HUGE. I really liked the dish, but if you aren't a fan of sour pickles with spicy peppers in the mix, then this may not be it for you. I didn't think the dish was spicy, that's because I have a high spicy tolerance but my friend was low key sweating on the side 4. Sweet osmanthus rice cake: I LOVED THIS DESSERT. It's a must get if you like the very subtle flavor of osmanthus. The whole time I was eating this- I was like this tasted like home osmanthus flavors are prominent where I'm from , and I miss this so much but haven't encountered any places that have dishes like this. Overall, very subtle flavors and most can't taste the osmanthus , but if you a real one like me, you would be able to appreciate the flavor Service: service was great! Our waitress was super nice and polite Ambiance: we came on Sunday for dinner, line seemed very long as we didn't have a resy, but if you just wait by the door, can probbaly get seated within 15 mins. Cute ambiance, gives off very cultural Chinese elements

My must go in NYC!!!Having grown up in Hangzhou, this restaurant is almost the taste of home for me - many of the dishes are unique to Hangzhou/Zhejiang are that you can't find in other restaurants in NYC (or not as good of a taste). I especially recommend the duck as its super authentic. The environment is also very chill and comfortable, mimicking historical Jiangnan restaurants. While it might be on the pricy side comparing to other Chinese restaurants in the city, it's certainly worth it.
Be the first to ReplyI wanted to love this place as I love spiced fried chicken.
It is spiced but chicken is not moist. Always crowded so maybe it was a bad day. Nice staff
Be the first to ReplyEverything was on point.
Food was delicious, carefully cooked and well seasoned. Service was good and fairly fast, just needs improvement on explanation of dishes. The ambiance is really nice as well. When you walk in you feel like you are in a traditional Chinese restaurant with beautiful decor. My partner and I will definitely be coming back. We highly recommend the soup dumplings, the pork belly with quail eggs and yellow croaker fish.
Be the first to ReplyMy friend and her family came to visit me in New York.
We went to Cheli and they love the food and service so much. The restaurant has lots of space for large and small group of people. We got plenty of food, the decoration and taste were above our expectation! Service was welcoming and friendly. We had Braised Pork Belly, Black truffle xiao long bao, Triple soft, Red bean fried dough dessert, Fish, Snow prawns and more. I suggest, make a reservation before you go to make sure you get a seat.

Be the first to ReplyOne of our new favorite Chinese restaurants.
We've come here several times now (and to the Flushing location), and even brought my parents. It's wonderful to have some Jiangnan cuisine in the city, and we absolutely love the fish soup with pickled mustard greens (it's a little less spicy than the Szechuan equivalent but packed with flavor), the tofu with crab, the eggplant in garlic sauce (we asked to add some minced pork), my husband also loves the pork belly with quail eggs. We didn't love the wine-soaked chicken...it was a bit dry when we ordered it. The kids usually eat the xiao long bao and love it, and the peanut rice cakes have been a big hit for dessert. We didn't love the sweet porridge, but the walnut soup (dessert) was hearty and not too sweet. The milk tea wine is also divine, love the tofu custard that comes with it.

The squid was to die for, I highly recommend. Service was friendly and helpful. Overall restaurant ambiance was relaxing and quiet despite it being busy.

This was on my bucket list for my longest, and boy, am I glad I finally made it here. It was worth the wait. I am salivating thinking about the crab tofu, braised pork belly, garlic beans, and.... Drum roll... their soup dumplings! Everything was phenomenal so come with a big group, so you can try everything - duh, and a big appetite.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant absolutely blew me away, from presentation
This restaurant absolutely blew me away, from presentation to taste to service. A reservation was not hard to make and the staff was prompt and clear on the phone. The restaurant itself is small, but the inside feels like an entire Jiangsu village by a river. Decor is stunning with dim but not dark lighting.Food was served quickly (highly recommend the Plum juice/Suan mei tang, as well as the sweet and sour ribs and osmanthus cakes.) Was not a fan of the Longjing shrimp - tasted like cheap grocery store shrimp and was saved only by the dry ice coming out of it. The drunken chicken was flavorful but quite dry and difficult to eat. Other than that, all other dishes were incredible. Everything is reasonably priced (we ate around $250 for 6 people). If possible I would give this restaurant an honest 4.7 stars!
