Wonderful service, food and experience
We had a lovely time here - it is expensive but worth it as a treat for the wonderful food and service. The lobster and the tuna starters were both delicious. The chateaubriand was melt in the mouth and the chips plentiful and delicious. Amazing experience!

I went with friends last Tuesday to Chez Bruce. I didn't go for a long time, so I was very curious to try it again. Inhad the Orange segments salad as starter. It was a very simple salad of greens and orange but with a delicious dressing of pecorino cheese that made it very special. As a main course I had the Roasted vodka with olive mash and gremolata. It was perfectly cooked and the mash was just the right balance. The desserts are always fantastic. Service impeccable. I will be coming again very soon.

This hidden gem nestled opposite leafy Wandsworth Common is a real delight. Warm & welcoming, with faultless, friendly service & a menu filled with delicious temptations. The rhubarb bellinis were a great start to a wonderful evening.

Food just absolutely outstanding. Everything we ate was perfect. We hadnât visited for ages so were pleased it was just as great as we remembered! Thanks for a lovely birthday meal for my husband.
Be the first to ReplyWhen did Chez Bruce become the first Michelin star fast food restaurant ?
We had apparently a 2 hour 15 minute table allocation. We were the first sitting. After 1 hour 30 minutes we were ready to order from the dessert menu. We asked to share a cheese portion, and a dessert, and to have the cheese first. We were very firmly told that we did not have enough time to have cheese first then dessert. At this point we had another 45 minutes. In true London style, it is far from a relaxing night out. If it is not parking meters you are stressing over the time limit, it is very expensive restaurants with a rigid agenda so they can make more money, ruining what was meant to be a special night out. Bruce, I was a very loyal client at the time you were building up your reputation. I was there at the New Years Eve dinner where your restaurant was nearly annihilated by coked up revellers. I will not be back.

Wow! We had the most wonderful evening yesterday dining at Chez Bruce. The attention we were giving from the staff was top notch.... friendly, helpful and kind. As for the food I don't think I've ever eaten such amazing food! The sommelier advised us on the perfect wines too. Overall a perfect evening. Thank you to all the team Andrea Harvey

As good as it gets for classic cookingâŠthe pigs trotter is the benchmark! The service impeccable and ambience was just perfect.
Be the first to ReplyGood food but lacks atmosphere
We recently had supper at Chez Bruce. The meal was of a high standard, but for the prices they charge, the dining experience could be improved. The restaurant atmosphere was very cold, from the attitude of the staff to the decor of the restaurant. Everything was very rushed too, we were pressured to order, pressured to finish the meal and pressured to pay with speed and leave the restaurant. We probably will not return there in a hurry.

For 26 years I have been meaning to come to this gem on Wandsworth Common. My regret is I never visited sooner. The service is excellent and staff are knowledgeable on dishes and wine and deliver service with warmth. The food was excellent from starter to dessert. Looking forward to my return in 2023.

Wow, what an experience. Visiting my sister who lives in London (ex pat), had dinner last night on our final night in London (12/8/2022-US DATE). Three course meal with a nice bottle of Pinot Noir, hit the spot. The food was really good and the service was great until the end when we waited a little while longer for our desserts as we had to ask to see how long it would take. Then more time trying to ask for the check. It was definitely well worth it.

Just came back from Chez Bruce. Won't be going again. I can accept many things in a restaurant but not filthy crockery in a place that charges so much. Its a nice venue, but the side of chips came in what can only be described as an unwashed pudding bowl. The pudding was identifiable, raspberry sorbet stuck around the outside and the rim. If we could see it they should have, not just a little but a lot? The cod was overcooked and over salted, the veal chop was tough and the knives blunt. I have given 3 stars as the staff are nice but instead if apologising for any of the issues they took money off the bill. I can't understand this as a way to make customers want to return? It doesn't. Its clearly lost its mojo.. or probably its once good chef... certainly its attention to detail.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely incredible, a birthday dinner to remember
We had such an amazing time here, everything was perfect. We had three courses and chose different things but tried each otherâs and every single thing was divine, absolutely delicious. The service was attentive and friendly too and Bruce also took the time to greet all the guests personally which I really liked. An absolutely unforgettable experience, I cannot recommend this place enough!
Be the first to ReplyPleasant neighbourhood restaurant but not much flair
This is a pleasant neighbourhood restaurant with a good atmosphere. The food is competent but the dishes are a bit unimaginative and one feels that the restaurant knows its market and being well established with a Michelin star feels that it does not need to push its boundaries. Although after the pandemic it is appreciated that restaurants have to make up lost ground , at ÂŁ75 per head for the three course menu ,with supplements for many dishes, these are Michelin star prices without the Michelin star flair to back them up.

Visited with friends who live locally. Canât fault the restaurant, a great spot, the service is friendly and the food is top notch. Great choices and the wine list strong. Recommended

A rather rustic restaurant. Thereâs a set menu of 3 courses , and they are flexible. The food in general was good to very good, but too salty. The cheautubriand was chewy sadly. The cheese course was a little over the top with 9-10 cheeses. Service was basic, they donât describe the dishes. Plating also rudimentary 9/10 and thatâs stretching it
Be the first to ReplyA truly superb restaurant
We dined here on Saturday night. The food was sublime, the services friendly and efficient and there is also a wonderful atmosphere - friendly, buzzing and chic. I cannot recommend Chez Bruce highly enough. The creativity and finesse of the chef lifts this restaurant above any neighbourhood restaurant and it should instead be considered one of the best restaurants in London.

We had an absolutely wonderful time! The food was sublime and the service was faultless. We came for lunch on our anniversary and the staff even brought us a little extra sweet treat at the end of our meal which was a lovely extra touch. To top it off, we even got to chat with Bruce himself! It was a really special meal and we look forward to coming back.

Lunch with friends was the usual exceptional standard. Great classical cooking, good wines, lovely desserts and cheeses, professional unhurried service.
Be the first to ReplyResting on its laurels
Everything we had was perfectly nice and competently cooked, but all just a bit boring and unimaginative. I donât think the menu has really moved on at all since I first visited around 20 years ago, and Iâm surprised really that it retains a Michelin star since there are other non-Michelin places nearby doing better food (the French Table being one example where the cooking is far superior). One thing which has moved on is the price, ÂŁ75 for the menu which might be acceptable if they didnât then add ÂŁ7.50 supplements for the nicer choices (or indeed a ÂŁ12.50 supplement for the special if the day). Iâm happy to pay those prices for exceptional cooking but this is a world away from that. The dessert menu is a particular disappointment with old staples such as chocolate brownie and crĂšme brĂ»lĂ©e making appearances - donât get me wrong both lovely desserts but not what I expect at this price level, more your cote brasserie type of level (and actually the cote chocolate fondant is better). The staff are all very efficient if somewhat frigid and unsmiling, they could do with lightening up a bit.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Lunch
Our lunch was exactly as we hoped it would be.
The food and wine were both spot on. Our lobster starter was well worth the supplement, it was exquisite, and the LambTagine was absolutely delicious. The food, the wine, the friendly knowledgeable staff, the ambiance, Chez Bruce has it all! .
Surprisingly disappointed
Having eaten here many times before we had high hopes of our evening. Firstly, we were upstairs and rather neglected, the sommelier did not come to our table, the menu was surprisingly disappointing and none of the dishes had a wow factor as in previous visits - our bill was just under ÂŁ500 for the 4 of us and was not worth it alas - come on Chez Bruce get back to your old self!
Be the first to ReplyBrucey bonus!
Often when we decide on a restaurant to visit itâll be because of reviews on Google Maps, Tripadvisor or the like. However with Chez Bruce that wasnât the case. We went because everyone whoâd already been told us it was brilliant - and they werenât wrong. We would have visited before, but we mistakenly thought itâd take ages to get there from Central London. In fact, even though no trains were running from Victoria to Wandsworth Common - the nearest train station - on the day of our visit, it was still only around a 30 minute trip by bus.
Our reservation was for lunch at 1pm but we rocked up at midday and hoped we could maybe grab a drink and get served a bit earlier. Instead we were escorted straight to our table - bonus!
We perused the menu whilst munching our complimentary Parmesan crackers. Chez Bruce doesnât offer a tasting menu so a bit of thought was required, and this led as to a smoked salmon and leek wrap each for starter, one chicken and one pork for main and a carafe of white wine to share. We also had a lovely aperitif of a zingy blood orange Martini each and enjoyed an escelbefore the meal began.
The starters were tremendous. Salmon, colour of the deepest, er, salmon, wrapped in a thin, crunchy leek parcel which sat in a cracking sharp and sour sauce and a pleasant hint of dill. They were joined on the plate by a pair of light, smokey eel croquettes. Our mains were equally as good. My chicken breast had not a hint of dryness and came with a ballotine of chicken leg meat, buttery potatoes and a subtle but delicious truffle veloute. The bite of pork cheek I tried of the other main was so tender it was like inhaling meaty air and the morsel of apple tart with black pudding reminded me of a tarte tatin, but with a hint of savoury saltiness.
For dessert we both chose creme brĂ»lĂ©e and thatâs what we got. No bells and whistles, not even a coulis or berries, just silky custard richly speckled with vanilla and a bitter and crunchy but light burnt sugar topping. Perfect. A flat white each after our food and we were done.
Chez Bruce is a wonderfully relaxed and unpretentious place. All our servers made us feel welcome and there was none of the stuffiness of some Michelin-starred establishments. In fact the greatest compliment I can pay Chez Bruce is to say that anyone who might ordinarily feel intimidated and bewildered by a Michelin-starred restaurant would feel at ease here. They wouldnât be daunted by tasting menus with dishes they might not like. Instead they could just enjoy fantastically cooked and presented food at, for the quality, a pretty reasonable price. We certainly did.
Slightly underwhelmedâŠ
There were some genuine highlights here where the kitchen (and bar!) demonstrated the kind of âclevernessâ expected at this levelâŠbut there were also elements which were simply âwell executedâ and which Iâve seen just as well executed at say CĂŽte or Brasserie BlancâŠand for a fraction of the price. âVery goodâ is still very goodâŠbut itâs short of the âexcellentâ that this restaurant expects to deliver and which we expect as patrons.

I came here for my birthday lunch with my mum and brother and had the most wonderful meal.
We were seated by a table near the window and while browsing the menu were served delicious parmesan crisps, fresh focaccia and sourdough breads alongside homemade butter. My brother especially enjoyed the breads and each time he was offered additional pieces, he very much obliged.
To begin, I chose the mackerel with smoked eel croquettes, my mum the rabbit rillettes and my brother the chicken with fresh pasta. We all really loved our dishes and found them perfectly balanced. I was glad that I tried something different because eel was not something that I would have wanted to try previously.
As a main I decided to go for the compte cheese, jerusalem artichoke and mushroom pithivier, my mum chose the trout and my brother the lamb. I was totally blown away by my main, as it was so simple yet so tasty. My tastebuds were certainly given a treat with all the flavours dancing around on my tongue.
When it came to dessert, the caramelised apple course that I had wanted was no longer on the menu and so I opted for the buttermilk pudding with rhubarb. My mum chose a crÚme brûle and my brother the apple crumble with clotted cream. My dish was good but not really my type of pudding and on reflection I should have chosen the hot chocolate brownie with ice cream.
After our meal we were given chocolate truffles and I even had a birthday plate brought out to me which was a nice touch. We were then offered some of the most incredible shortbread that Iâve probably ever tried. It melted in the mouth and flaked off in layers and was utterly sublime.
All in all this was a fantastic meal. I would highly recommend eating here and experiencing all that this restaurant has to offer.
