Best chinese experience in London
Hospitality and quality of food is great. They will always make you to feel welcomed. Especially Lucian who helped with drinks and finding food i needed.
Be the first to ReplyMassive deterioration in quality.
Massive deterioration in quality over the past few years. Squid overfried, plasticky sweet and sour chicken. Regrettably the reduction in quality of the food has also been matched by a massive reduction in the quality of the clientele and professionalism of the servers. Cannot recommend, especially at this price point.

Best Chinese restaurant in the city wonderful food with an amazing wine selection too... Service was impeccable as you would expect of the Dorchester. Food is some of the best I've eaten out in along time.
Be the first to ReplyKind of good........
Many years ago the Chinese restaurant at the Dorchester was one of the top five in London. This successor opened 20 years ago and it could - should ? - do better. I was early and the boss chatted me up in a very friendly manner but then a somewhat patronizing maître d'h. took over. He was clearly unwilling to provide advice and we chose Peking duck to be on the safe side. It was good but nothing to write home about. In particular the first serving was almost cold. Most of the staff are from the Middle East or the indian subcontinent and not Chinese. Service is OK by English (declining) standards but again surprisingly average in a place like this. We skipped deserts because they were not explained but written on a plastic menu that look decidingly uninspiring. I asked for a glass of Mao Tai instead and had to explain three times what I meant to a puzzled waiter, but then the Mao Tai was the right stuff. Prices are as stiff as expected. I left with the impression of a place not worth its reputation. I doubt that I will be back.

…location, deep under the Dorchester, helps create the impression of an opium-den style night club in old Shanghai, as do the warren of rooms, latticed screens and quietly subdued nooks and crannies. We were nooked and crannied at a large table for three on a recent Sunday evening and while busy, it was not so busy as to be neglectful and the efficient service was a delight. So many delicious dishes, too many to describe in detail, means that I can only mention highlights, which included some very clever and impressive dumplings containing a rich soup – how do they do that, I thought, as the hot soup squirted everywhere – and pre-wrapped Peking duck, a brilliant idea that saves the bother of picking up cucumber sticks and shreds of duck – less faff, more food. Surfacing to busy Park Lane was a bit of a disappointment when the go-downs of old Shanghai would have matched the evening well.
Be the first to ReplySurprisingly weak food
Surprisingly weak, particularly with the prestige and price point. Dim sum lunch on a Saturday - steamed dumplings very well constructed (large, tasty prawns in the dumplings/cheung fun for example). However delivered inexplicably lukewarm. Chicken satay very chewy/stale and not cooked on a charcoal grill - I’d say this was worse than a microwave satay pack. Egg fried rice tasted like it had been sitting on the cooker all day, very stale (and not the good kind of stale that comes from fried rice being cooked from day-old steamed rice). There was a strange mix between very friendly, competent staff and the opposite. Ambience is nice, but not all that special in London. Overall rather disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyChinese New Year at China Tang
I visited China Tang for Chinese New Year with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary and early Valentines. We were incredibly excited to visit China Tang at the Dorchester. The food was delicious and we enjoyed our meal. Our evening was tainted by the sommelier shouting ‘gay boy’ at my boyfriend when he was entering the toilet upon leaving the restaurant. We were shocked by this language and were confused why he would shout this as we found it offensive. Upon emailing both the hotel and China Tang regarding our disappointing experience, we were told we were mistaking this for ‘banter’ and that the comment was made in ‘jest’. I don’t believe shouting ‘gay boy’ at someone can be portrayed as jest, especially when inclusivity is so important in today’s society. We are very happy with waiters being friendly and welcoming, but do not see how that comment can relate to either of the two. On the basis of the response received, I will not be visiting China Tang or The Dorchester again.
Be the first to ReplyGarbage served daily
The service was disappointing, especially when a rowdy group was seated nearby and served multiple rounds of shots, disrupting the atmosphere. Despite our discomfort, the staff failed to intervene, allowing the situation to escalate. Additionally, the food was served cold and lacked flavor. Regrettably, this experience falls far short of even a one-star rating.
Be the first to ReplyBad experience
We picked China Tang at the Dorchester to celebrate my husbands special 50th birthday with friends. The evening started out well and the food and service was really good, however, as we were about to leave we saw a mouse running around the floor. When you are going to dine at a venue like this with the prices that you pay it is the last thing you expect to see. It did ruin the experience and something should be done about it. When I complained to the staff they just ignored me.
Be the first to ReplyPretentious and unwelcoming
The welcome you’d receive at the prison camps China denies the existence of would be warmer than the truly shambolic offering here. The reception staff are rude, conceited, and unhelpful. Turning up for lunch was as though one has interpreted their day and one should think better of it.The food, whilst decent enough, does not make up for the service (for which there is a. 15% charge) nor ambience in the basement of the hotel. The accommodation of allergies was woeful and “well just have the vegetarian” is not acceptable. All in all this is to be avoided.
Be the first to ReplyGood service
The restaurant is a high-end one with prices to match it. We went for an early dinner. The place is located in the basement and for those who need it, there is a slow-moving hand-operated lift to take you down. The staff were friendly and quite accommodating. The list has some hala items as well which was quite good. I was terribly disappointed with the hot and sour soup which was described so elaborately but was really not at all the hot and sour soup that we were used to having. Likewise, the fried rice was very disappointing. Other items were not bad. Overall a good one-time experience.
Be the first to ReplySweet and Sour Taste at China Tang and not just the soup
Firstly it should be China Tang at the side door @ The Dorchester as we were not allowed access to the restaurant via the main entrance of The Dorchester . A minor point but when you have ladies with heels , they should be prepared for a walk ... We had booked a private event room at China Tang and had received good service from Holmes of the events co-ordinator team . We had spent many weeks fine tuning the menu so was expecting nothing but 5 star service to match the location . Food was undoubtedly excellent but the delivery in some parts was a let down . The manager in charge of our event was miserable , couldn't reach a smile all night and clearly didn't want to be serving us . I think he was missing his favourite ' Dancing on Ice ' that night , than earning his 15% discretionary service charge than was nailed onto the final bill . The printed menu for our event had the wrong date on it , again no big deal but when you are expecting 5 star perfection it's a poor let down to detail . Grumpy manager did change the menu when I pointed out the mistake but without no real apology . The food was very good with a nod to the chef for the classic peking duck which was cooked to perfection . Nice crispy skin with juicy meat which was a delight . Our event sommelier was very good providing some 'value' choices from the extensive list and not just all from the top shelf selection . A final point don't pre-order any celebration ballons directly from the restaurant, for gbp 195 they were a let down , with no pun intended . Sad to say but the biggest smile of the night was from the 'por por' in charge of the toilets , I just hope she gets a slice of that 15% service charge .....

The decor and ambience is very pleasant but the food and service wasn’t high enough over your usual Chinese restaurant to warrant the hearty price point. Brought the wrong main course and instead of taking all the food away and return 2 main dishes at same time, we were left with one and told that the correct dish would take 2m. 15m later it arrived when we’d pretty much had enough by that point. No offer to remove from bill, and full service charge added. An expensive Chinese meal, 2 people, no booze for over £230. Gosh.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food and Service
We visited with family for a special occasion. We were made to feel very welcome. We enjoyed drinks in the bet first. Fantastic choice of wines. The food was sublime. We could not fault anything. We had a mixture of fish, meat starters and mains. It was all beautiful. The restaurant were kind enough to let 2 friends join after the starters which was so kind. The table we had was in a little alcove so was very personal and we enjoyed every moment of our visit. Can’t wait to come back.
Be the first to ReplyWell worth the visit
I have just read some of the negative reviews below, and luckily I can say that we have experienced none of these. Came here with some family members to celebrate a special occasion. We booked a table for 5 and were promptly seated. The Restaurant was full, every table occupied, which alone is a good sign. Service was impeccable and the food was outstanding. OK, it is expensive, the bill came to more than £ 700 for 5 adults, but I have no complaints, I knew what to expect and was not disappointed. We will be back soon!
Be the first to ReplyPoor food but great manager
Was so excited about the halal menu but the food was POOR snd staff were inattentive. We slso had to wait 20 mins to be seated and this was only after constantly asking. The manager was really great though and offered us free dessert and remove a terrible dish from the bill.
Be the first to ReplyVery Disappointing
We went to celebrate a family birthday recently & from looking so forward to this restaurant, sadly we couldn’t have been more disappointed! The food was below average, over priced & despite having so many waiters, the service was awful, we had the most miserable waiter!

Further to our visit on 8th October to the China tang, Dorchester restaurant I feel extremely obliged to write a review reflecting on the undesirable meal myself and my wife experienced. To begin with, we was presented with a £200 voucher as a present for our anniversary to spend at the China tang Restaurent, which we had presented initially upon arrival. As we arrived about 30 mins ahead of schedule we was initially seated in the bar area, to enjoy a few glasses of wine, which went relatively well. Upon being seated to the restaurant area, we proceeded to order a few starters and a 2nd bottle of wine. All was going well and was impressed with the décor and atmosphere. However despite a 15% service charge being applied to all orders, we had to ask multiple times (by putting out hand up) to ask for a refill of wine or have the wine refilled. We then proceeded to order a 2nd bottle of wine, and our glasses where topped up (2no glasses). As my wife went to the toilet I requested if I could have my glass filled up, however was notified that the 2nd bottle had finished, despite only having 1 small glass of wine of the new bottle. ( my wife hadent even finished her glass) We had then notified the manager it was impossible that the 2nd bottle would of finished as we had only 2 glasses. Unexpecdially the manager had told us that the waitors have been pouring us glasses of wine all night?! We then requested for the CCTV footage to be reviewed as this was a blatelt lie on the behalf of the waitors or managers. After waiting 45 mins we was then told by the manager that he had reviewed the footage and has seen the wine being filled up. which was a complete lie. Further to discussions we was then told “we would be given benefit of the doubt” and have the wine taken off the bill. However the complete and utter embarrassment of this issue had completely ruined our experience at this venue. Once the bill had arrived and we reviewed the 2nd bottle of wine was still on the bill! Therefore we had to complain once again to remove the 2nd bottle charge & also the service charge as the experience was a complete disgrace. As we had a minimum spend of £200 there was circa £50 left on the tab therefore asked for a coffee which had arrived late and burnt (which may have been done purposely) and asked to take away a different wine bottle therefore bringing the total of £200. In summary I wish to clarify the experience at the bar section of the China tang was pleasant, which is used as a waiting area, however the restaurant was abismall. Despite charging 15% service charge you have to put your hand up as a school child to request for wine refills, table to be cleared or to have water. I have requested to review the CCTTV footage as I am not happy about given “benefit of the doubt” as its more of the principle of having to protest your innocence, then the money side Therefore this place gets a 0/5 rating.

Best Wagu I have ever had! We booked a private room for a work dinner and it was absolutely perfect. The service was great, the food was phenomenal and I love the location. We ordered a bit of everything and everyone loved it all.
Be the first to ReplyBest Asian Food London
Probably the best but also the most expensive food in London. The Peking Duck was amazing as were several of the other supporting dishes. The wine list is equally expensive and care needs to be taken (unless you want to spend that much ) that the bottle you choose is not several thousand pounds as i found the pricing a little confusing untill you got used to it. on a happy note it was wonderful to see so many fathers out with their beautiful daughters , they all looked very caring young ladies.

Disappointed by the lobster with ginger and spring onion. It is very different from the dish that I have had a number of times before at China Tang. But different is okay as long as it is tasty. However, the lobster dish I had last night was far from satisfactory. It has essentially been made to suit Western dining preference. As Chinese, we prefer the lobster to be cooked and presented with the shell on. And if you are going to extract the lobster meat from the shell and present it in that way you have got to make darn sure that there is no shell present in the dish. Unfortunately we found multiple pieces of shell in our lobster meat and noodles. Just careless. And the sauce lacked the favours of ginger and spring onion. Plus it was gloopy. Very disappointing given that I was charged £188. I don't mind paying the money if the food was good. But sadly it just wasn't. Very disappointed with China Tang. I don't think I will be returning for a long long while.

Excellent evening vibe. Food is wonderful but some dishes are over priced like the Peking Duck and Dover Sole. The bar area is the one to go for dinner, very relaxed and buzzing

We had a fantastic experience here. The food we had was great. Of not was the pawn toast and the spring rolls and the sea bass was amazing - although perhaps needs some spice ? We were served promptly and all our order turned up in a timely fashion. I love the decor here and the ambiance is great too.
Be the first to ReplyBasement rating for a basement restaurant
The location of the restaurant in the basement of Dorchester is befitting the basement quality of the food and service in China Tang. The food was completely bland tasteless and unremarkable. At the end of the meal, they had the cheek to try to charge me service charge twice! A truly pathetic experience. If you want poor food, even worse service and be charge twice for it, the please go there immediately!
Be the first to ReplyOverrated and pricey ...
The fact that this restaurant is based in Mayfair and it’s part of the Dorchester hotel you would have some high expectations of the food and service but I was very let down!
Unfortunately there is honestly nothing special about this place.
Service - Was not up to standard. Seating staff was missing, no drinks menu, no complimentary pickled cucumber.
The staff could have placed napkin on the lap and pulled out the chair but nothing of such.
Food - Mediocre, honestly don’t know what the fuss is about. You could get something as decent or even better locally most probably.
Value - overly priced i think for what it is, your paying for location and name.
Main restaurant decor - Nothing to great, type of style of decor you would find at your local Chinese restaurant, very outdated.
Although reception and bar looked great.
