Not something that I'd think to get at an Indian restaurant so I had to share...BEST. LAMB. CHOPS. OF. MY. LIFE. Of my life!! Curries and apps were all great too but let me tell ya, I'll think of that lamb forever.

Chutney Mary was recommended to us by one of our good friends, and she did not steer us wrong! Chutney Mary was one of my favorite meals in London, and I would go as far as saying one of the best dine-in experiences for Indian food. Can't say that I've even had fine dining at an Indian restaurant, so Chutney Mary set the standard high. The customer service wasn't that great though. Servers were hospitable, sure, but not attentive at all. The food, however, exceeded my expectations and was downright fantastic. We ordered everything as family style, so that we could share. We ordered two appetizers of crispy fried chicken and vegetable samosas, 2 entrees of shrimp curry and butter kitchen, a couple of orders of naan, side of basmati rice, and a side of saag with paneer. All excellent. Only thing that I thought was average was the sticky toffee pudding. Chutney Mary put their spin on it with Indian flavors, but I would've much rather preferred an original version. Also the sauce was really thin and not thick and syrupy how I like it.

Being south Asian and being in London which houses some of the best Indian restaurants I decided with a group of friends to give this a try. 5 star dining experience. The food all came out to high expectations including the drinks. Service was very attentive and the ambiance was just something else. I could not stop looking around the room to indulge on all the little details the design team and owners have taken to set up a high end Indian establishment. We ordered the biryani, tikka masala and a few more entrees. The portions are to a smaller scale so order a few to keep the dinner going.

As soon as you enter the restaurant, the ambiance and aromas set the stage for the evening. Beautiful food, exquisite service...authentic and imaginative in every sense of the word. Throw a dart on a board to select the menu items...all incredible dishes. I can't say any more to justify the 5 star rating.
Be the first to ReplyOmg Yes Chutney Mary! I sort of wanted to go back again
Omg Yes Chutney Mary! I sort of wanted to go back again during my short visit but I didn't think my friend wouldn't let me repeat a restaurant. I had this hibiscus martini that had champagne in it. It was amazing. So much so that I had to. Then later I just had to dance to Beyoncé's Cuff it because 2 was probably too much. We ordered a crab appetizer which was more like a deconstructed Indian spiced crab cake. It didn't come with a chip or a piece of bread so we were sort of uncertain how to eat it. We were not crazy about this. However, the samosas were so good. Very flavorful but we did not get many on an order and they were shaped like sushi hand roll cones instead of the traditional shape. The butter chicken was amazing. I had it with basmati rice and fried cauliflower. The fried cauliflower was not so fried but coated with a paste that was spicy. Still it was good but not exactly what I expected. My friend got a seafood grill. She said it was good except the prawns were mushy. We also got the plane naan and the chili butter naan. The chili butter naan was spicy but not soggy as I expected. So both of those were very good as well. We also ordered dessert and sorbet and a gelato. My friend had the honeycomb and dark chocolate and I had the dark chocolate and vanilla. Both of these were very good and just the perfect ending! I would definitely visit again. Also the place was lovely. Looked like a fancier take on an Indian restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyMy favorite Indian in London.
It's more a nice date spot but it's in my neighborhood (Pall Mall) so it's a go-to for me. Making reservations is highly recommended & they are adverse to walk-ins. Great 5 star service. The fish tikka is my favorite seafood dish. The paneer tikka is a nice appetizer. Saag paneer is considered a side and is just as good as an entree for 1 person. These tend to be my go-tos.

Oh my God, you cannot go wrong with anything.
Be the first to ReplyThis is the best Indian food we have ever had.
Our London Cabbie suggested this restaurant as a must do. The atmosphere is amazing and beautiful. Our server, George, was attentive, knowledgeable and so helpful with menu choices. We opted for the non-vegan tasting for two and it was off the charts. Perfection with the wine paring. George over heard that I did not like lamb and substituted Butter Chicken without me even asking. Desserts were amazing too. The Maitre D' was so informative and shared the significance of the foods, seasonings and Indian traditions. Don't miss this experience in London.

Walked to this restaurant because it was recommended by the front desk at my hotel (Trafalgar ST James) we entered a half empty bar area and we're turned away, not serves at all. Very disappointed in the lack of customer care demonstrates by the staff. Terribly unfortunate.

Recomendation from a friend and Truly the best Indian food I've ever had! After a long day visiting London Christmas lights and markets we were starving and couldn't wait to dig in. They brought there version of a crudites tray and the entree choices were varied but I settled on the Lamb Chapli. It was filled with tender lamb and a curry sauce that was so delicious I can't even describe itThe serving staff were friendly, attentive, and just the right amount of presence. If you can make this your stop for late lunch or dinner don't miss it!

I dined at Chutney Mary multiple times and they all exceeded my expectations. The food more than make up for the poor service. Highly recommend this place if you want good Indian food but don't expect too much from the wait staff.

Chutney Mary is my go-to Indian restaurant in London. Right off of Pall Mall and down the street from the exclusive White's, you can count on the restaurant to be very under the radar as it attracts politicians and academics alike. My favorite is the Butter Chicken and the Grilled Paneer (pending in season it is topped with a quince like fruit) also this time they added dried nori which isn't usually the case... so yum! Full high shelf bar with great drinks. I love this place - It never disappoints. PS Not one Indian restaurant in Brick Lane can compare to the quality and preparation of this restaurant. If you are picky Indian food eater like me, this place is worth the extra GBP.

Seriously - what a crap place One kid w nut allergy not cross contamination sensitive just can't actually eat one Was told and shown a list that showed ALL dishes contained peanuts - seriously even the sorbet ????If you can't manage a kitchen or understand food allergies and importantly be able to discern between eating and cross contamination you should quit Don't eat here they don't have any control over the kitchen

This is part of the same chain that Amaya and Veerasamy belong to. They're known for their take on seafood. Firstly, service was awesome and attentive. Coat check on arrival. Quick refills on water and cocktails. Generous wine pours. Attentive pacing on food items based off our consumption. The works. Secondly, cocktails were good, albeit all a touch sweeter than I'd prefer. We got their saffron gin martini, margarita, hot toddy and their gin iced tea. All were presented beautifully but just a little sweeter than I prefer. We moved to wine for our next round of drinks. No complaints overall. Thirdly, the food was OUTSTANDING. We did the following dishes:1. Calamari -- 5/5 would definitely recommend. It came with some achari sauce that complement the crunchy calamari fantastically. 2. Tandoori foie gras -- 5/5 Fantastic. Served atop some lamb shammi kebabs. 3. Green goan chicken curry -- 5/5 another fantastic dish we sopped up with some garlic and butter Naans. 4. Dal Makhni -- 5/5 this reminded me of the buttery creamy dal you could find at the bokhara restaurant in Delhi. 5. Lamb Biryani -- 4/5 definitely a good biryani, but slightly paled in comparison to the rest of the dishes. I can't wait to visit London again simple to be able to go to Chutney Mary's again. Thank you CM team for the memorable experience.
Be the first to ReplyI came here while on a business trip in London.
Someone from the group had made a reservation and had to place a credit card in order to hold the spot. The credit card would be charged if we failed to show up by the reservation time. I found this to be a bit harsh considering London traffic and we ended up needing to call in the cab on the way there as we were running a bit late. The restaurant is beautiful (see the picture attached), we walked through the main bar area back into the main dining area where we were seated. We first ordered drinks around the table and I ordered a passion fruit drink which was quite delicious and fruity but not too sweet. They have an option to order vegetarian or meat courses that come with an appetizer an a couple other dishes. Myself and another vegetarian at the table were going to order this however we were informed the entire table had to order this way which was quite odd. I was personally disappointed, however we were able to order the dishes individually. We opted to order the garlic naan, a paneer tiki appetizer and a selection of a daal dish, spinach dish and potato dish. The food was amazing! However, the service could use a lot of improvement. Between the appetizer and main course when the appetizer plate was moved away from in front of myself my entire drink was knocked over by a waiter and it spilled onto my business clothes, the table & my phone. Luckily, I grabbed my phone in time so there was no damage. I was given a replacement drink and 75 pounds were taken off the group bill which I appreciated but it was still an unfortunate incident to have happen. I've given them 3 stars for their food and ambiance, but the incident definitely tainted my experience from a 5 star dining experience.

Being from San Francisco California, high end upscale restaurants are common to me. As tourist in London we stopped by for a bite. The food was "decent." However, service was terrible. The staff was rude and stuffy. I DO NOT recommend. For such a lovely neighborhood you'd expect to be treated friendlier.
