More than amazingโฆ
Everything was excellent! The food was creative and delicious, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere relaxed. We had the set menu as a group of 12 and there was nothing we could fault! More than satisfied at the end of the evening. I couldnโt recommend Coda enough, we will definitely be back. Thank you for the best dining experience!!
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
The food and wine were good. However, as the restaurant was very full, it was very noisy and rather cramped. It began to get irritating when a waiter banged into the back of my chair for about the tenth time as they passed to another table. The service is efficient but overly brusque, with wine getting positively chucked into our glasses at every opportunity (I finally took control of the bottle myself). All in all I was glad to leave - hardly a nice relaxing evening.
Be the first to ReplyPoor handling of dietary restrictions
I have dietary restrictions and while I eventually did have a reasonable if overpriced meal this was handled awkwardly. There was little flexibility and very little choice. Staff need a good class in customer service , there was a general air of disdain and unfriendliness. Little awareness of different dietary needs, it just seemed too much trouble
Be the first to ReplyIncredible Cuisine & Experience
We had heard glowing reports about Coda, so when we had a trip to Melbourne planned, we made sure we booked a table so we wouldnโt miss out. OMG we are so pleased we did. From the moment you enter this stylish, well laid out restaurant, you are greeted by one of the team with a warm welcome and genuine smile. The menu is so appetising, catering to all dietary requirements, made choosing our dishes extremely difficult. Luckily for us we were expertly guided through the menu by our own dedicated team member which worked out perfectly. The smaller plates, were insanely good, the semolina puff filled with duck liver parfait, Kaffir lime salmon gravlax with whipped tobiko and the Wagyu ox tongue skewer with chilli oil started our journey to โfood heaven.โ The In between we chose Tea smoked duck breast & kingfish sashimi again both balanced, incredible favours and superb presentation. We enjoyed the Semolina puff from the smaller plate, we had to each order another serving. Onto the Bigger plate we chose the 350g scotch fillet with black pepper butter and crispy leeks. Adding a cos hearts, pomegranate, wasabi pea salad and Pomme frites on the side, made it the ideal amount of food for our party of three. Again a taste sensation, steak melted in your mouth and the salad a crisp and clean accompaniment. The wine list is extensive featuring wines from around Australia and the globe complimenting the food perfectly. The dessert menu looked very enticing however we chose to finish off the evening with a liqueur. Once finished up we were greeted by the team a good night and seen to the door. This is a must on your next night out in Melbourne. Not only is it about the awesome food for me itโs also about the whole journey, from the time you enter to the time you leave. CODA has done this in spades. Well done team, we canโt wait until we return.
Be the first to ReplyUnique dining experience
Visiting my daughter in Australia we decided to eat at this upscale Asian fusion restaurant. She had heard very positive reviews and wanted to try it. The space was well done with an open kitchen. There were three of us dining and decided to order dishes to share. The tea smoked eggplant, liang fen, peanuts, sesame and coriander salad with Shandong dressing was perfectly seasoned and delicious. Eggplant never tasted this good. Not disappointing but not exceptional was the Wagyu 9+ Intercostal beef rendang The meat was tender, and melt in your mouth, however there was no counterbalance to the rich sauce. The cashews in Wombok, white onion, cashew and mint salad stood out. Wok fried morning glory, shimeji mushroom with preserved tofu was also excellent.
Be the first to ReplyExperience not the best, not because of the chef!
The kaffir lime salmon biscuit was amazing, as was the crispy betel leaf. Our problem was the service. There was attitude and a hint of hostility which hindered our experience.
Be the first to ReplyAsian Fusion inspired food
Situated in a heritage building, this restaurant is popular among locals as well as travellers. The menu is not too large, serving Asian fusion type cuisine. I call it confused food but the taste was acceptable and in some ways unique! Service was good and the price is in the upper end! Stand out is the crispy tapioca with prawns wrapped in betel leaf with kiffer lime and green chilli and their smoked chocolate mousse with cognac burnt honey ice cream and fennel!
Be the first to ReplyVery underwhelmed with the bad food and service
Not sure where to start, my mother always said if you have nothing nice to say, then say nothing but to my fellow tripadvisors I feel I need to say how my experience was. Going by the reviews I went here for dinner but was very disappointed, ordered a scotch fillet and it arrived very under cooked, I do not like my meat underdone but at no time was I asked how I like my steak cooked, I did not want to complain, as I was hungry and just cut the edges off and left the raw steak in the middle. I did mention this to the waitress but she did not say anything just gave me a strained looked. ๐ My daughter is vegan and she was very underwhelmed with her meal both entree and main where very ordinary. When we left and went to pay, it seemed an effort for the staff member to serve us so we could pay for this pathetic meal. Probably one of the worst meals that I have eaten and I am pretty easy to please. I am sure that I could make a better meal at home. Sorry if the truth hurts.....
Be the first to ReplyBrilliant Night
Our first night in Melbourne and we booked Coda because my son had heard a lot about it. What an amazing night we had. The Maitre'D (wish I could remember his name) was fantastic, he ran us through the menu, asked what we liked and then suggested most of our meal and we just added a few things to it. Couldn't fault it, it was all fantastic. Flavours are mostly subtle but some hit hard but in a good way. I would thoroughly recommend an evening here.
Be the first to ReplyCoda is now too busy
We've eaten here at least four times but this time will be our last. The place was extremely busy and the waitress was very cold and unengaging, almost robotic.

Worth a visit. We enjoyed the starters. Good variety. Lamb ribs and scallops were good. Tempura bugs was acceptable. Kingfish was good.
Mains were with Asian flavors. We had steak, barramundi, pork cutlets and vegetable curry. I found the curry a little rich and sweet.
Desserts was interesting with a good mix of tastes.
Great service cool menu but hit and miss
Great service cool
Menu but hit and miss.
The big miss wash the steak. It was presented sliced and you valued se the sinew through most of it. So it was chewy expect end bits. I have feedback and chef said itโs supposed to be like that. $45 steak supposed to be chewy
Always excellent
A long time favorite that is as good as it ever was, possibly even better. The service is professional with good recommendations (particularly wine). The food is so yummy. Highly recommend either of the banquets, they are a perfect way to enjoy the best of Coda; with must haves being the scallops and the crispy prawn betel leaf. That being said, we have worked our way through the whole menu over the years and never been disappointed. The desserts are definitely worth saving room for. A bonus of the banquet is the pandan lamington with passion fruit sorbet - which is about the best dessert ever.
Be the first to ReplyOne of Melbourneโs best
The first restaurant we visited after being away from Melbourne for over a year. Great menu and wine list and matched by the wait staff.
Be the first to ReplySuch a lovely dinner in a modern setting
Such a lovely dinner in a modern setting. Food was delicious with chocolate dome dessert being exquisite. Service the epitome of friendly, knowledgeable and efficient without being in your face. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyGood, but others around have risen
Return visit after 3-4 years. Was with a vegetarian colleague so decided to go all vego and see how it went. Overall they did a good job and we got to sample a variety of tastes and textures. Jungle curry was good, as was the san choi bao, but I was left with the feeling that it was not as exciting as last time. Nothing has changed much since my last visit, so I conclude that whilst they used to be a standard setter, they are now part of the pack. Service was great as always. Beer list is disappointing in this day and age.
Be the first to ReplyQuality produce, beautifully presented
Providing farm produce to the restaurant trade, we know when we are presented with good quality produce on our plates. This establishment showed us that simple does not have to be low quality. All our dishes were beautifully presented with the separate flavours clearly identifiable in there intended intensity. This is a restaurant we Will be going back to. Thank you Gerry and Anthony (our neighbours and foodie experts in Tassie) for making the suggestion.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible Experience...ruined my son's graduation dinner
After supporting these guys during Covid through their takeaway and delivery service, I was most disappointed with the treatment we received when coming back into the restaurant. I had a gift voucher for Tonka (same owner), and when I rang to book a table I asked specifically if we could use the Tonka voucher in Coda and was assured that this was the case, as they were the same owners.
We happily went to Coda to celebrate my son's VCE graduation, and as usual the food was great...but the nasty taste that was left in our mouths when the waitress said they would not honour our voucher (even though we spent $100 more than the voucher value) because it was for Tonka and not Coda left me speechless!
These guys DO NOT deserve your support if they are going to treat repeat customers (or any customers) like this! I paid close to $400 for our meals, and still have $300 left on a voucher I have ZERO intention to use at Tonka given the treatment we received.
Not honouring the voucher for the reason that it was from a different restaurant (SAME OWNER!), and yet cross-promoting Tonka and Coda on their websites and in the venue seems very deceitful to me!
Not happy...
Amazing modern asian
What a place, if you to see how good modern asian can be go here. These guys are resetting the bar here. Sit at the bar and watch some the best fine dining cooked in front of you. Amazing wine list and great Somme
