Cold Spring Tavern Santa Barbara Reviews from The Last Year

Had such an amazing visit today - I stayed for hours! The staff is incredibly warm and kind all around, and the food is wonderful. Not only is this place a well-preserved historical landmark, but the owners and staff have created such a cozy and welcoming atmosphere for all. As I sat on a bench there today with my freshly cooked tri tip in hand, I saw the beauty of the diversity that this place brings. Couldn't be more grateful for this little home away from home and for the rich history it holds.

Karen Alert ! Drove 3 hours from LA to bring my wife to this place as we've been wanting to come since seeing it on IG. The Karen that hardly greeted us showed us a menu at the check in with nothing on it but the most expensive plates and asked us to take a look to make sure we wanted to eat there. LOL. I'm Hispanic and have tattoos so I guess she assumes we are poor and unable to afford the menu. When the other server seen our menu she was nice enough to give us an actual menu and we proceeded to sit down and order. The food was good and we still tipped but If you're not white you're probably better off saving your money. $48 for ribeye Lol the place is old and dusty. Hardly a fancy restaurant that justifies the prices on their menu. If we wanted something bougie we would have dressed up and went somewhere with Valet. Definitely will never come back to this place. Oh and my wife sat on a bench that looked like an old church pew and she literally got a splinter in her thigh.
Food was great , the experience was the cherry on top.
I loved it here . A unique spot to have lunch with lots of history and friendly staff . Check out the gift shop
I highly recommend if you're in for a treat for different
I highly recommend if you're in for a treat for different style meats. This is the spot. A very beautiful drive up the mountain get ready for at least a 15 minute drive up in the mountains for this hidden gem. Listening to the water Creek coming down and, frogs and crickets with live music. What a cool spot. I highly recommend going during lunchtime because there is a tri-tip sandwich and three different chilies that you can get a sampler. It's not offered during the dinner service, which was a disappointment because I really like those two a lot, and I went back for dinner and it wasn't on the menu. Dinner is very elegant make reservations for sure, but if you go during lunchtime, you don't have to reservation. You can smell the barbecue like you're in a campfire somewhere. Really delicious. They have different types of meats like, rabbit, buffalo, venison, and they're all delicious.
Service was great , the scenery was awesome.
Fast and friendly servers . Definitely recommend the trip tip and onion rings
Excellent Tri-tip sandwich and black bean chili.
The atmosphere is perfect. The onion rings are a must if you're a fan of onion rings.
Cool spot.
Made me feel like I was back east. The tri tip sandwiches were 7/10. My kids had fun checking out the old cabin and jail.
Terrible service.
We had made reservations with a group of 12 friends but were at no time told beforehand that we couldn't split checks. It's 2024, the technology exists. The waiter seemed very offended that we even suggested splitting the check 3 ways. The head hostess up front was also was not afraid to counsel a fellow employee in front of us for making a mistake, which was uncomfortable. Our reservation was also 2 hours long but we were informed 45mins before our window was over that the next party was already outside waiting, pressuring is to hurry up and leave. Food was good though.
I need to say first off that my review of CST is based off
I need to say first off that my review of CST is based off of the one time I was there more than 25 years ago. So take waht I say here assuming nothing has changed since then. CSP is a magnifecent stop in the secluded foothiils just northeast of Santa Barbara and well worth the drive. It has a truly old west rugged wagon trail charm that surprisly feels at home. Now this is the first time I had ever had venison and I was instanly in love with the tenderness and flavor of such a fine meat. I don't recall what wine I had, allthough it was a red and I believe their own label (I could be wrong about the label though) but I do remember it went perfectly with the venison and got turned on to trying different wines. I am no wine connoisseur by any means, it is mostly beer for me, but CSP introduced me to pairing a good wine with a great meal and for that it'll always have a special place in my heart. 25+ years has been far too long. I have since gotten married, had three kids and maybe a grandchild soon on the way. I think it's time for me to head back south to Santa Barbara and take my wife to CSP.
Took a drive out today while visiting SB and was not
Took a drive out today while visiting SB and was not disappointed! The drive was easy and gorgeous. The parking lot is small so you will probably have to park down the road. I went on a Saturday, you can just order the sandwich and chips immediately or get on the waitlist for the full menu. We decided to get on the waitlist and it was about a 45 minute wait. We ordered 2 Tri tip sandwiches with potato salad. YUM!!! I loved the au jus sauce and my husband loved the horseradish. The potato salad was decent but I was really blown away with the chili, phenomenal! Bring a deck of card and enjoy your wait!
Hidden Gem
This place is a hoot! Totally unexpected. Loved the huge fireplace, and the atmosphere is so cool! We were on a wine tour with a local guide who brought us here for one last stop on our tour. It took the cake!
Disappointing
Great welcome! Magical place even if the road at night is very difficult. On the other hand, the quality of the food / the price is not up to the quality. Any meat: steak for $42 with béarnaise sauce liquid like water... too bad.
15 minutes from Santa Barbara, but it feels like 100 miles from anywhere!
It is the absolute best spot on the California Coast! You HAVE to stop by....Great music, great food, full bar, and in a most beautiful outdoor/indoor location by the creeks, and the trees....Honestly I have played many venues in my life, and this is as good as it gets...No cover for music....Great people watching, the most excellent food and drink.....Plus being away from the world for an afternoon= Precious...:)
Okay, I guess?
No to sure what all the hype is about. We walked around, but unless you're there to have a drink and/or eat, there really isn't much to it. We read a lot of reviews about the onion rings, but didn't try them. Maybe some other time.
Good food, okay experience, fun drive up from Santa Barbara
Good meal, okay service, decent value, somewhat difficult to park at (can't be helped because of the landscape), service could be better (but that's true everywhere these days). If you're staying in the Santa Barbara area, the drive up there alone is worth the trip. Eating outdoors in the shade was nice, but we also had to deal with annoying flies.
Parking a major negative
We had hoped to enjoy a pleasant and tasty lunch based on other reviews. Unfortunately, we arrived at about 12:30 pm Strongly suggest if you are going make sure you arrive between 11 and 11:30 am. Taking Stagecoach road off of the main highway you come to a sign saying Road Closed and another sign saying the Tavern is open. If you have not been there before you might turn around assuming Road Closed. But ignore that sign and head down the road a few miles. You will likely start to see cars parked on the side of the road. Grab a space if you find one. We passed the Tavern and went the equivalent of 1500 yards and still couldn't find a space and then found it difficult to locate an area to turn around. Heading back towards the tavern we saw a handicap marked space which would be great as my wife qualifies. Unfortunately someone had parked right in the middle of two spaces so not enough room to park.

Good question. Currently the bidder will have to include the prepaid dinner price plus bid to secure the reservation. AT is currently working on an upcoming release where the prepaid amount and the bid amount are two separate transactions. Happy Bidding!
