Great ambiance, simple cuisine
Booked at this centrally located restaurant on the strength of previous reviews and overall very happy to have chosen it. They have got the ambiance just right: there's a warm and cosy feel to the place with subdued lighting and a comforting buzz of background conversation that never intrudes. The ground floor dining area isn't large (there's an even smaller section downstairs) but the tables are well spaced and it doesn't feel cramped. The staff we met were all personable and mature, not passing-through casual labour. There were hiccups - I was accidentally pushed against a table as I passed the bar to go to the toilet and a glass smashed spectacularly on the floor very close to our table, but the apologies were effusive and genuine. I can be complimentary about the food in the sense that both my starter (devilled whitebait and dill mayo) and main ("sugar pit" bacon chop with fennel choucroute and samphire) were enjoyable, but neither were particularly complex dishes and both unhealthily salty. They were served on notably small plates which rather begged the value for money question. Giles Coren's review of this restaurant some while ago highlighted their chips on the side as being the "dish of the effing century". Their unusual preparation (according to Coren, the potatoes are baked with thyme, butter and salt, pressed overnight in the fridge, then cut into large rectangular blocks and deep-fried) results in something that's undeniably satisfying to eat. The short wine list contains very few options under £40 - our bottle of a rare Spanish grape called Moristel was nothing special and, it would seem from online research today, marked up about six-fold.

Evening with my brother and partner. Informal special evening out and Cora Pearl fitted the bill perfectly. Staff friendly and fun but very professional. Fantastic food. Steak to share is a must. Excellent well priced wine list. And a real buzz to the place. Will be back.
Be the first to ReplySorry, really not value for money
Lunch, Sunday (12 Feb 2023). Service was friendly & good. I just had a main - the chicken roast. I think exc. VAT, £26 (maybe £24? or £28?).sorry, can't remember) But, overall, it wasn't quite as good as I expected for that price.. The actual chicken was a tad dry . . Not too bad . . but boo, hoo, look at the price. The 'crispy roast potatoes' turned out to be rather thick chips, some of which (not all) were so over cooked as to be inedible. The savoy cabbage was good, but the carrots were too hard. Al dente ?? Yes, but get it right. Cauliflower & gravy were excellent.

We were celebrating two birthdays on Saturday and went for an early meal after a matinee. We had a great table by the window and the service was excellent. Ruby was very attentive as were all the staff. They did not hassle us but kept an eye on us and topped up the wine etc without being intrusive. We had three different starters all of which were very good. For a main I had the sirloin steak with my son as it was a sharing dish. There was plenty of steak but I would say the side salad and one portion of chips could have been bigger. That said everything else was really good so would probably eat there again.

We went for a Sunday lunch on one of the coldest days of the year. Warm greeting and started with a cocktail. Delicious roast so no wonder they win awards for it. It’s a small venue but has a lovely ambience and the staff were attentive with no request too much trouble. We will be returning !

Having tried all of the well known Sunday Roast spots over the past few months, we found ourselves disappointed. We went to Cora Pearl today for a Christmas friends catch up over Sunday Lunch. I had zero expectations however it was outstanding. Every element of the food was top notch, full of flavour and executed properly. Things like perfectly crispy potatoes and vegetables seasoned and parboiled to perfection. Service was extremely good, too. This place is exceptional.

Visited with my wife for the first time. We liked the location and ambiance. The staff were excellent and Peter was great and also the lady who answered the phone as I advised we would be 15 mins late. The seated area by the door was really nice. It was quite late and we ordered a couple of martinis and a bottle of house red - all good. We decided to share a starter of Jerusalem Artichokes I think for £13 and to be honest the portion was so small it was almost comical - double the size would still have been considered small - it was very nice but offered incredibly poor value we then had the beef for 2 - sirloin I think for £95 - this is not cheap by any stretch but was OK but it was disappointing that although for 2 persons we only had 1 portion of the excellent fried potato chips. (Jenga style). So if the food had been sized right we would have given a 5. Probably wouldn’t return.

We nipped in on spec for a spot of lunch on a busy Saturday. We lucky to be seated in a quiet window spot, the service was attentive but not intrusive the cocktails (bad kitty and Cora’s mule) Were well balanced and well prepared. Our meals arrived promptly and again were beautifully seasoned and all the flavours on the plate complemented each other. Once again thank you to the Maitre d for seating us, We will be sure to recommend to our friends.

The food was very very good and the service was even better. It is a cozy restaurant with a not such obvious and everywhere seen menu. The whitebait appetizer was very tasty and unusual for todays restaurants. The fowl was well prepared, but should be served with a serrated knife. The red cabbage was a bit too vinegary for my taste buds. The fries as a side are a sensation! Its is basically potato gratin cut in blocks and deep fried - super crispy and tasty. Long story short - i was very comfortable restaurant with excellent food. I WILL BE BACK, FOR SURE!!

Supper with my daughter whilst I was in London. We took menu recommendations for the fish and the chocolate puddings….food was superb and we both thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Only downside were the olives….after taste of anchovies….but it’s a minor niggle in an otherwise lovely restaurant.

We could not get in for dinner as planned lack of reservation, but had cocktails out front. Very good, both the classics and their house cocktails. Will be back next time with reservation

Great ambiance ,
Fantastic family surprise
My husband's children surprised him by being in the restaurant when we arrived and this was the perfect place to celebrate his birthday as he's a real foodie. The food was amazing... I'd go back just for the toastie! A great atmosphere, lovely staff and excellent house wine - thank you so much for an unforgettable lunch.

I was mesmerized by the high-quality dishes, the standard was exceptional. the service was fabulous. absolutely blown away by this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyTiny restaurant. Packed full of taste and characters
Came here for dinner with hubby and what a great find.
The butter with the bread was delicious whilst my whitebait was so moreish.
We both ordered chicken Kiev and it was so sumptuously amazing. Definitely recommend the cabbage as well.
It is definitely a small restaurant but packed full of flavours
Charming characterful restaurant with excellent food
This was my second attempt to eat at Cora Pearl, as the first time was cancelled when my guest came down with Covid. We weren't disappointed. It's such a lovely welcoming place, small but perfectly formed, attractively laid out with small tables and banquette seating. It had great charm and character and the service was friendly and efficient - felt like a neighbourhood restaurant in ambience. The food was excellent, the menu is a short one but has enough choice to satisfy all tastes including vegetarian/pescetarian and meat eaters like me. I had burrata with quince followed by the pork belly, and my colleague had deviled whitebait followed by the fish stew. Honestly delicious and quite filling to the extent we didn't have room for pudding. The whole experience was a great one, lots of good attention to detail even to the pretty antique coupes in which our champagne (available by the glass) was served. Not cheap but not overpriced either. Highly recommend for a long, chatty lunch.

My friend and I enjoyed an absolutely delicious lunch here. The Jerusalem artichoke risotto was possibly the best risotto I have ever eaten. The chips are not really chips but they are fabulous! We found the people so helpful and friendly with a relaxed manner but in fact very efficient.
Be the first to ReplyThe slowest service we've ever had - ruined our night
Made a booking for my Mum's 70th. I live in Australia and my parents are in London, we hadn't seen eachother for 3 years, so being able to celebrate my Mum's big birthday with her was so special.
I booked at 5:30pm. The restaurant texted to ask if we were seeing a show and what time we had to leave - I told them yes, and we'd need to go by 7:15pm, and I was grateful they got in touch.
The actual experience was the complete opposite of what I expected after getting that text. We arrived and sat around for a while with the drinks menu. We had to go up and ask for someone to take out order. Our drinks came and no one took our food order. We waited 40 mins to order food.
The food came out slowly, we were getting more and more stressed. The starters arrived, and then we waiting about 30 mins before our mains came out. They knew we were in a hurry, so they bought our burgers and then the sides followed after. We didn't have time to eat the sides, and had picked the restaurant to try 'the best chips in London'. One of the floor staff got us some foil so we could take them away, but we still didn't really get a chance to eat them.
Throughout the whole night we were getting more and more anxious waiting as we had to get to the theatre. We repeatedly asked where the food was. Most of the staff seemed nice and felt bad about the situation. The floor manager (i think) acted like he didn't care.
We rushed our meal after waiting for ages, despite telling them over text and in the restaurant that we were going to a show.
We left at 7:25 and had to quickly get to the theatre for 7:30, which was hard with my Dad's mobility issues!
The final nail in the coffin was that when we were hurriedly leaving the restaurant, we asked the floor manager which direction to go in for the theatre, and he stood there like he didn't care and watched us walk off in the wrong direction.
Luckily we made it just in time.
The food is good, but the service was awful and made what should have been a fantastic family night out into a stressful and disappointing evening, and I am still so upset that the place I booked to take my Mum out for a big family meal for her 70th, after being separated for so long, almost ruined the night.
Lovely place for lunch.
Fell into this, resto by accident but we’ll certainly return! Fish casserole not to be missed. Very friendly service. A trifle expensive for lunch, but it is Covent Garden …..
