Took my wife here to celebrate our first big trip since the pandemic. From start to finish the experience was extraordinary. Clare Smyth's cuisine and service embody excellence across the board, and truly she is one of England's greatest chefs. Booking was by the numbers. While you have to be ready to get a table when released, thankfully, it was not impossible. We took the tube to Notting Hill, and it was a pleasant walk to the restaurant through some lovely neighborhoods. Upon checking in we were greeted warmly and taken to our table. Two tasting menus were offered - the classic tasting menu and the "Core Seasons." We got one of each, why not try each dish? We also got a wine pairing. We prepared our palates with some champagne and cocktails, and sat back to enjoy the experience. Each dish was a breathtaking melange of color, expertly arranged and plated. The flavors and how all the ingredients were sublime. The wait staff were very knowledgeable about all the wines served and we enjoyed their stories of the provenances of each vintage. On the way out we got to meet Clare and thanked her for a wonderful evening we would not forget.

My bf and I have a few shows we watch together, Top Chef being one of them. So when I saw a reservation for lunch open for this restaurant while we were on vacation, I knew I had to book it. We traveled by metro to the restaurant and got there a little early. The hostess was very gracious and let us store our bags in the front closet. We had the earliest reservation, so there we were quite outnumbered by the wait staff. Once the restaurant filled up a bit more, I watched in wonder at a well-oiled machine. Everything from the escort to the restroom, to pulling out chairs, to describing every single dish was impeccable. Now, the food, every single dish, was delicious, well balanced, and presented like an absolute work of art. We started with 3 pieces of amuse bouche to get our palates ready, and my palate was still not ready! The scallop tartare has probably ruined me. I don't know how, if or why I would ever eat scallops after this. To say they were fresh would be an understatement. Potato and Roe, every time I go to a fine dining restaurant, I am always amazed by all of the flavors they can put into a modest food such as a potato. The roasted cod was delicious. The lamb carrot was quite a surprise as the carrot was magically stuffed with roasted lamb. The venison was very tender and juicy. The Core Apple was magical, as it looks like a fuji apple but is a delicious stuffed mousse. The Wild Strawberry is also a beautiful optical illusion as it represents a caprese salad but is a refreshing dessert. Just when I thought I couldn't fit in another morsel, here comes the Petit Fours. With my second stomach that's usually reserved for desserts, I managed to devour a chocolate tart that was reminiscent of a fresh baked cookie and their wonderful jellied wine. This reminded me of a super potent wine jello shot but way more refined. I can not recommend trying to secure a reservation to this restaurant if you're on vacation and want to splurge on a Three Michelin Star meal.
Be the first to ReplyI booked for 2 people for Core Restaurant at 9.
45pm, my plane was delayed by over an hour to return to London, so I asked the restaurant and asked the attendant if I could change my booking or come half an hour late. She said she could change my booking but will charge me a cancellation fee or keep my booking for half an hour. I received an email prior to half an hour to say I will be charged $300GPD cancellation fee and they stoped picking up my calls. It's disgusting!

This review is a bit late as we were there in October 22'.. You walk in and immediately you are transported. We were lucky to snag an afternoon lunch resv. Which was absolutely perfect time. The sun coming through the restaurant.. the food was just so beautiful .... next couple of hours were pure joy ...all the senses engaged. Can't wait to come back to see what's next..

Words can't describe what a beautiful, delicious, and perfect experience our dinner was. As soon as you enter the door, to every minute of the well choreographed dinner to our departure - perfection. There is an abundance of staff and one has to admire the level of efficiency of the staff's movements around the dining room. A finished plate never sat on the table for more than 30 seconds before someone came to whisk it away and clean the table. Each dish was presented perfectly and staff was knowledgeable and energetic to present the next course. The dishes were phenomenal tasting. The creativity, beauty, and just overall taste of each and every dish. Nothing was heavy, while most dishes were quite bright. The desserts were just ok but the rest of the meal more than made up for it.Chef was in the kitchen and was able to even get a quick greeting on the way in and out. Would come back in a heartbeat.

Set your alarms to get reservations because they get booked quick! I was fortunate enough to get reservations about 2 months out for our trip to London for a birthday dinner. We were excited to dine here after seeing Chef Clare on Chef's Table on Netflix. Dining at Core was a wonderful experience. Our host grabbed us to get seated after we had a cocktail in the waiting area. Right when we entered the dining room, we saw Chef Clare and her friendly staff members waive and greet us with the most welcoming hello! I enjoyed her open kitchen layout to see the chefs hard at work. We decided to pick one of each on the tasting menu so we can try a variety of Chef Clare's dishes. I love that we have the option of choosing different tasting menus when it was just us 2 dining. Typically, high end restaurants require you get the same tasting menu for the whole table since it's easier to prepare. All of the dishes had it's own unique taste with a gorgeous presentation. The sauce for her signature potato dish was divine and the potato was cooked perfectly. Be prepared for a TON of dessert dishes. I wish they offered more savory compared to sweets. The staff was very knowledgeable and gave us a full description of each dish while serving us. I highly recommend giving this 3 Michelin Star restaurant a try!

Loved this restaurant and would definitely try to go back when I'm in london! I say try because reservations are hard to come by. There were two menus to choose from and we got one of each so that we could try everything! The classic tasting was fine, but between the two we both enjoyed the core seasons menu more. The service was great and although I was scared of finishing really late (our reservation was at 9/9:30) time surprisingly flew by quickly and I wasn't as tired as I thought I would be. Presentation was phenomenal as well!

I tried doing the no-reservations thing at CORE twice, back before the Covids, but they only ever had seating at the bar, not in the main dining room. Like an idiot, I passed, both times. I was a little worried that a couple was allowed to enter with their baby, but the infant was seated far from my table, so, few worries. And now that I've finally been properly seated, I found the food, service, ambiance to be exceptional. Of course, there are plenty of exceptional restaurants, worldwide. Here, I was very pleased to see that Chef Clare Smyth, who I believe to be one of only 4 women who have ever earned a third Michelin star, has selected her restaurant staff to include women and men of various diverse backgrounds, on both sides of house, at all levels. The kitchen (and staff) is fully visible to the patrons at the Chef's table, but every diner gets a glimpse as they walk by.It is not until you've visited a handful of these super high-end restaurants to realize that Chef Smyth's diverse staff is extremely rare.I'll have to return soon.2022 09 23. I would like to eat here again and often! There's a small bar at the entrance and the cocktails were great. Based on all the buzz, we were excited to actually meet Chef Smyth as we walked by the open kitchen to our table. She was warm and friendly.Every course was wonderful and delicious. I liked everything, but want more of the canapés, both the gougères and foie gras! I'm a big fan of pumpkin and this was the first time I've ever had pumpkin and truffle oil together (in the gougères).COVID-19: Like just about every spot in London, there was no mask wearing and customers weren't asked to show proof of vaccination.

Was super excited to see someone dubbed as the best female chef in the world -- could hardly wait to get in. What a huge disappointment! I love Gordon Ramsey and have so much respect for the Michelin star. But I must have come on an off night. Very blah, ordinary boring food. Kind of stunned me. Such a disappointment. Just goes to show you: the bigger the name, the bigger the ego and the less they care. Probably all the fame was too much for her to handle.

I knew that I was going to have my birthday dinner at a fancy, Michelin-starred restaurant on my trip to London. Opted for Core after a recommendation from my friend and realizing it received two stars right out the gate! Plus Clare Smyth did run 3-star Gordon Ramsay for the longest time, so I figured her own restaurant would certainly be up to standard. The food here is absolutely tremendous, one of the best dinners I've ever had if I'm basing it solely off the food. Core prides itself on using local ingredients found within the United Kingdom, so I knew I was going to get a very modern British dining experience. I opted for the Core Seasons menu, where the menu changes every season. You can just tell that every dish was meticulously thought out to put together some wonderful creations with very unique flavors. It's hard for me to pick out anything that was my favorite because every dish was amazing. Truly a masterclass in the art of food.I've definitely been spoiled by a lot of the nice restaurants I've been to over the years so the novelty of service has worn off, but amazing service never ever gets old. There is no pretentiousness here at all, you are made to feel welcome the second you step in the door to when you leave. On top of that, we had constant attention all night. Water constantly refilled. Table clean after every course. New utensils for every course, including that very oddly shaped three-pronged fork! And, yes every meal was properly explained before we ate. Staff here have clearly been trained on how to treat their customers and it shows.Core prides itself on being "an elegant and informal fine dining restaurant" and the ambience is a representation of that. You don't even feel like you're in a restaurant, it honestly feels like you are in the comfort of your own home. We were fortunate to arrive here at 6:30 pm before there were a lot of people in the restaurant, so the noise level was actually below moderate. Made for easy conversation as I did not feel the need to talk loudly. Interior had a very modern contemporary, yet fancy look to it. One of the most comfortable dining experiences I've ever had.Core is the real deal. Hopefully that third Michelin star is shortly forthcoming! And it was a real treat to actually be able to go into the kitchen and meet Clare Smyth. I could not have dreamt of a better birthday dinner than this!

World class cuisine in an amazing restaurant with fantastic service and elegant atmosphere. This is pure class and I could not find fault with anything there. Service is excellent and the wine list is amazingly good. The staff are international and on the money when it comes to service excellence. The food coming out of the kitchen is exceptional and I loved each and every course. It's no wonder Claire Smyth was awarded the best female chef in the world in 2018. Prices are reasonable for a restaurant at this level and the ambience is fantastic. Be back here in a heartbeat :-)

My wife and I dined at Core twice in 2019, while I had the classic menu both times, my wife had both the core season as well as the classic menu. Well, what can we say - the dishes (potato and roe, the other carrot, the fruit sorbet meringue, the core apple, the core teaser) are crafted to perfection on all levels. There were so many amazing dishes, it is hard to pick the best one. The service was beyond exceptional both times and the location is understated, yet elegant (we want the metal London map from the bar in our apartment - unfortunately, it is a custom piece). Having the kitchen behind a glass wall is a cool feature and that we actually got to go into the kitchen and meet Clare & her team on our second visit was a dream come true. 2 stars are more than deserved and we are hoping/expecting to see a 3rd star!

Best culinary experience ever: exquisite and amazingly tasty food, great wines, ambiance, over the top services, and more. A must try in London. But you will need to book way in advance.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experience.
This is one of my favorites we've been to so far- the food, service, presentation and just whole deal. The service was personalized and friendly. Though it's white table cloth, it's not stuffy! The signature dish was delicious as expected, but the others were creative and fun as well. The apple dessert was fun and tasty. We added a wine pairing which I would recommend. While the pours are smaller, I like the experience of knowing why that wine pairs with the dish. It's worth it to me! Great food and an unforgettable evening!!

We sat at the Chef's table with our friends from the states and thoroughly enjoyed watching the team create masterpiece upon masterpiece behind the floor to ceiling glass wall that separated us from the kitchen. We dined here a couple of months before Chef Clare received her Michelin stars and we knew it was just a matter of the next guide being published. The food, presentation, and hospitality are all as good as it gets. We've yet to run into a better place to dine. We dream of our return.

The most amazing meal out of all the 3-Michelin stars we've tried. In my opinion it's significantly better than the #1 restaurant in the world (Mirazur) in terms of presentation, flavor and value. Service was impeccably warm and friendly, not cold and impersonal. Decor is simple but tasteful and refined. Love the fact that their staff has 50/50 mix of male and female. She definitely deserves to have a third star!
Be the first to ReplyMostly great service.
The biggest problem is that they throw so many "free" amuse items at you to hide the fact that they serve so little of what you actually ordered. Honestly, 4 different "free" amuse items were presented before we received our apps. The app was 2 or 3 bites big and the entree was 5 or 6 bites big. I just cut everything into tiny pieces so that each course would last more than a couple of minutes. We had to listen for way too long as 1 of the line cooks described in mind numbing detail every single microscopic ingredient that comprised our apps. All I could think about was for him to go away before our food cooled off. None of the servers checked with us to see if our entrees were ok. Both were over salted. And then the desserts. First a heavy "free" apple sized/shaped confection (half left uneaten), followed by another heavy dessert (the 1 I actually ordered, half left uneaten), followed by a "free" chocolate tart and "free" jellies (all left uneaten). Lastly, I had to listen to 2 different servers describe the dessert I ordered, despite asking the second server to stop. Not having stuffed myself with the pile of heavy desserts they slid my way, I left the restaurant hungry.
