Amazing food, terrible service.
Staff was rude and not attentive and we were the only ones in the restaurant. Good was delicious.

2 people made a reservation for birthday dinner with special order for cake, arrive 5 minutes late, and they tried seating us at the bar with barely enough space for 1 person. Screw this place. Too many great restaurants in nyc to bother with them.

Let me preface this review by stating the reason I will never go back, is not because of the food. My friend and I ordered the lamb chops to start, which were cooked to perfection. For dinner I had the truffle gnocchi which was also amazing. The service however, was probably the worst service I've ever received in my life. We sat for a bit before the waiter even came by to see if we had any questions about the menu or if we wanted to place an order. By the time he did come over, we ordered both the appetizer and entrรฉes. The waiter repeated back our appetizer to us to which we responded "yes". A short while after, we received an order of mussels. When we called the waiter over and explained we didn't order mussels, he replied "I asked you twice." We were so taken back by this response that we both looked at each other confused. We kindly explained we never ordered mussels - I would never considering I'm deathly allergic - to which he said "ok" in a snarky manner, and took the plate. We never saw our waiter again. For the rest of our dining experience the busboy and hostess served us, and when it came time for the check we watched him hand over the credit card machine to the waitress so we could pay for our food. Not one time did he come over and ask if we needed anything despite the fact our drinks were done and we clearly needed more water. To make matters worse, he had a table next to ours (it's a VERY intimate setting) to which he went by several times. The most atrocious service I've ever gotten in my life, which is shocking considering it's a Michelin star restaurant. Despite the fact the food was good, you couldn't pay me to go back.
Be the first to ReplyThe entire atmosphere here is a bit of a nightmare.
We attended on a night that was raining, and the space was so small to walk through that each customer and staff member who walked past pushed against us each way in wet clothing from the rain. We asked to move to the window which was even more cramped for table room and the server seemed flustered trying to fit our food in such a small area. One of the servers was using their phone as we asked to order a drink and didn't respond for a few minutes until done with their phone. Later we asked another staff member for water, who seemed a bit confused and another server came over and said bluntly "he won't understand you, what do you want?" which just felt a bit degrading to her coworker. The food was unmemorable in the light of how uncomfortable the space was.
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant is small and very nice.
They have indoor and outdoor sitting. The menu is really good I highly recommend this place. Good service , good location , the food made my day. I took my friend here for her birthday and she likes this place as well. I will be going back for more. Another restaurant on my favorite list.

My friend took me here for the first time after I told him about my new love for gnocchi and boy did this place deliver. Though I forget exactly what I ordered for my appetizer but I do remember being satisfied. Excited to bring my girlfriend here for date night as the ambience is fitting for the occasion.
Be the first to ReplyPoor service and even worse food.
Atmosphere was good but did not make up for soggy overcooked and tasteless pasta
Be the first to ReplyCozy little spot on Bedford.
Tiny inside, but looks like they will probably keep the outdoor street dining that was constructed during Covid. Solid pasta place with reasonable prices for the area.

A small but cozy place, friendly waitresses and nice food except tiramisu. We especially love the bolognese sauce and the sauce for stewed calamari.

Rude/non existent service even when we were the only couple in the restaurant (also a bad sign at 630 on a Sunday). At end of the meal, the waiter brought the bill over on an ipad, scrolled directly to the total/pay tab and then stood over me while I tipped. There were mistakes on the bill that I asked him to reverse and he told me they had no ability to reverse charges. He also spilled wine on our table while pouring with no apology. This is a tiny place with likely only 1 or 2 waiters at any time so don't think this was a one off that won't affect you. Also tried repeatedly clearing our plates when we weren't done. Never again. I've lived in the area for over 15 years fyi and am not some tourist. My wife also asked me to mention that when we asked for pepper, the waiter handed her a pepper shaker to grind it herself. Not once did any of the waiters come over to ask us how our food was. If you're going to drop $125 on Italian dinner do yourself a favor and go somewhere else to be treated with respect.
Be the first to ReplySmall, cozy spot that's better suited for smaller parties.
We were drawn to this place mostly for the prices (nothing on their standard menu is above $16), so we weren't shocked when the food ended up being mediocre at best. The service was pretty good, but because of the small space (both inside the restaurant and in their outdoor dining), the dining experience wasn't great. People kept bumping into our table, and trying to maneuver around the restaurant was a bit difficult. Also, be aware that if, like us, you're visiting Cotenna for the prices, the items on their specials menu are definitely pricier.

There was a mixup with our reservation last night, but thankfully they were still able to accommodate us in their outdoor street-eatery. It's worth noting that tables both inside and outside are quite close to one another - but that's New York!Nothing on the regular on the menu was more than $16! Things on the specials board didn't have prices; the Gnocchi Tartufo ended up being $24 but the creamy truffle sauce was delicious! My husband's Orecchiette with Sausage and Broccoli Rabe was also very good. Portion sizes are decent - we could've had a starter and / or dessert as well, but we were headed to an event with more food afterwards.

Nice cozy vibe inside and attentive staff but that's about it for this place. The food was bland and almost tasted like it was microwaved from the frozen isle? I got the pesto pasta and my girlfriend got the pasta dish with mushroom. Surprising how many 5 star reviews this place got. I get that it's a local chill spot but there are better Italian restaurants in the area at the same price point. Will not be coming back.

Everything was great - the Scampi, pesto pasta, and fresh mozzarela!Portions aren't large, but prices are low relative to the very high quality - will be ordering and visiting again.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place.
They refer to their dishes as "small plates" but it's more European sizing (meaning not huge). We were full after splitting an appetizer, a broccoli rabe, and getting our own pasta dishes. Food is simple but delicious. The wine list is nice and varied and their glasses are a heavy pour. The space is tiny but cozy. Service is quick and friendly (e.g., when I asked for the tasting notes of a glass of wine she opened a bottle to give me a taste). Will definitely be back. Nice to have an affordable date spot downtown.

First the physical; - great location! - fast service and attentive staff- heated outdoor seating- indoor ambience was very charming Now the food;- nothing on the menu was over $16 but everything on the menu tasted like it was triple the price- the portions were a good size and it was very easy to order multiple dishes and share family style with friends- We decided to order everything family style. We each got a glass of wine, split two apps (fried calamari and Caesar salad), split 3 pastas (the special truffle gnocchi, the pesto penne and the truffle mac n cheese), and then had two desserts (the truffle and tiramisu). All in all, for 7 dishes and 3 glasses of wine the total was 63/pp with tax and tip. VERY reasonable considering the quality of the food and the location. One thing to note, is that Cotenna owns the restaurant across the street too, so don't be thrown off if they seat you at this location, it's the same menu! We went on a Saturday night and had a great time! Will definitely be returning!
Be the first to ReplyVery underwhelming.
I'll state that everything should be taken with a grain of salt, as we did go on a Saturday night which is bound to be chaotic. Our individual waiter was excellent, if overworked, as were the men busing the tables. The other waiter and the hostess just stare at you blankly when asked questions. They brought everything - salad, appetizer, all the entrees, table bread, out at once. One dish we ordered never came out. Everything was tasty enough but not special enough to justify the prices or the chaos. If you're a talented cook or buy a quality sauce you could achieve the same effect since everything is meant to be very homey. Same goes for the drinks.
Be the first to ReplyCotenna was an all ย around great experience.
The only con was the table situation is a little tight but the quality of food and menu easily counters thatTo start we got the black truffle gnocchi, lamp chops, shrimp and crab cakes, and a salad - the black truffle gnocchi was phenomenal and the shrimp and crab cakes were delicious As an entree I got the ORECCHIETTE SALSICCIA RAPINI and it was wonderful. For desert we got all three and after we were done ordered another slice of cheesecake because it was so goodOverall a place for sure to check out

Came here for week night dinner and was not disappointed! Got the daily special Mango salad, Garlic shrimp penne, Tagliatelle Bolognese, and Tiramisu. Bolognese was a home-run, the fresh pasta was cooked to perfection and the bolognese was well balanced. Recommend skipping the Penne, nothing to report home about in both flavor and pasta texture. Definitely recommend finishing off the meal with Tiramisu even if you're stuffed, it's worth unbuttoning your pants for. Staff was extremely friendly and attentive.
Be the first to ReplyActually really like the food here.
However, every time I order delivery there is an issue. I have given many, many chances but tonight when I received the wrong order with the drinks spilt and drenching all food items due to very poor packaging for the 5th+ time I urge you to proceed with caution if ordering take out. This is the only place I feel like I need to call them as I'm placing an order to remind them to package things securely and it still does not happen. After receiving a botched order I called the restaurant to explain and try to rectify- willing to go pick it up to get my food- and was hung up on due to it being too loud and they truly just do not care. I have given too many chances and wasted too much $ on items I will never receive and there is such a poor level of customer service to never be listened to or compensated for lost time and money. My delivery service has now flagged my account for reporting solely their wrongdoings. Super sad they are this incompetent... get it together Cotenna

TLDR; decent pricing, delicious food, amazing service My friend and I arrived early to our 7pm reservations and chose to sit at the bar. The interior is quite intimate, but the bar felt more spacious than a table seating. Our waiter was extremely friendly and patient as we considered wine options, he allowed us to taste a few before committing to the whole bottle. We ordered one app (baked clams), two pastas (spaghetti & meatballs and the pasta of the day - green tagliatelle with shrimp and asparagus), and dessert (ricotta cheesecake), which was the perfect amount of food. The clams were seasoned perfectly and lied on a bed of spinach drenched with lemon butter. The spaghetti & meatballs were well cooked and seasoned, also hard to beat with a $16 price tag. The pasta of the day felt slightly under seasoned / over cooked and not al dente (it broke fairly easily and was very soft) and the shrimp had tails on - I was indifferent to the shells but my friend would have appreciated them fully deshelled for a full hands free experience. My friend and I don't have a sweet tooth, but what's dinner without dessert in the end? Ricotta cheesecake hit the spot after the super buttery lush meal, paired perfectly with the last of our wine. It was extra creamy and even more so delicious with the paired ice cream / strawberries. Overall, I'd love to return and try other items on the menu. Thank you for the amazing service!!

My go to spot if I'm looking for reasonably priced pasta and good service. The cocktails are great too. The inside has a great atmosphere, pretty packed but very intimate and cozy!
Be the first to ReplyThe food remains good but the service is just inexcusable.
It's as if they actually try to be as offensive and indignant as they can. I'm wondering if they have a school in which they train wait staff to be as unpleasant as humanly possible. Do they offer Bachelors of Arts, or just a quick baccalaureate? Is there a competition for Most Pretentious Waiter? It's so annoying that I wonder if they get a script?

I was surprised to find a bargain place like this - Italian intimate - good atmosphere, good food. ย Pasta dishes under $20 and wines around $12. ย On a cute side street. ย Very small place. ย Dessert was good too. Catch an early movie at film forum then come here!
