I truly hate it when restaurants won’t seat you until your entire party shows up, especially when the entrees are $50 or more.
Be the first to ReplyGreat location and lobster rolls.
We stopped in for lunch on a cool, drizzly day for lunch. Loved the location and were seated in the back bar area right by windows, which we enjoyed. The place was busy and the tables all occupied. I guess we were lucky to walk in without reservations and be seated immediately (well it was last week of September). Our server was a pleasant and efficient young woman. We wanted Lobster Rolls and Cru has both hot and cold. She told us most love the hot roll. We ordered one of each and split them. Though the cold one was very tasty, the hot one was really good - the winner for sure. We thought service was good. We expected to pay $$$ for the lobster rolls so no surprise. The only negative comment was that the clam chowder we ordered was basically potato soup - full of potato and not much else, though the flavor was good. One other observation - the oysters seemed to be very popular as we saw servers delivering many trays of oysters to other tables while we were there. I regret somewhat we did not try them.

This was recommended to us by a family member, and though we enjoyed our (very expensive) meals (Parker House rolls - $16; REALLY??), the atmosphere was “cold.” We did not feel particularly welcomed, though our waiter was pleasant. It appears this is a place for the well-heeled set to be seen. Clearly, we did not fit into that mold (even though we were properly dressed for the evening).. There seemed to be a glut of staff not doing anything. One young man walked from one dining room, past the bar, into another dining room, and back again. But we never saw him doing anything. He did bring our dessert, which he plopped on the table and left again. The view would have been very pretty had it not been pouring rain (not the fault of the restaurant); it is waterside, at the end of the wharf where the ferry comes in. Not worth the view, 7nless you have money to burn.
Be the first to ReplyCocktails & Oysters
We visited Cru while having a little time before catching a ferry. We ordered cocktails and oysters. Can’t go wrong with either! Staff was very attentive but we didn’t require much of their service. Patio is located at the end of a marina and has some good boat/dock watching.
Be the first to ReplyI’ll exhaust all the other higher caliber eateries in Nantucket before returning.
An excellent venue and atmosphere, food came quickly, our server on the other hand, seemed more interested in chatting with his coworkers than attending to his guests. We sat with menu’s closed and made eye contact several times, before he finally came around, this happened again when we were trying to get our check and leave. I had a the lobster pasta, which while bountiful in lobster, was so overpowered by it’s peppery ‘kick’ that the sweetness of the lobster meat was lost in the sauce and buried by the ‘kick.’ My associates pasta dish ‘tasted only of spinach’ (her words). Others in my party had the Halibut, and the steak, they were without complaint. THe bread was good, though obnoxiously priced. The fried clams were excellent. The service certainly reduced the experience.
Be the first to ReplyDON'T GO!
Go elsewhere. It's too loud in the dining room to have a conversation. The waiter took our credit card and overcharged it $200 dollars. The manager took the bill and came back and said we weren't charged at all. WRONG. We had to argue with him to correct it. We were given a half hearted apology. Honestly, the location is great, the view is nice, the food is decent, but the customer service is beyond horrible. Millie's on the other side of the island is much better and their service is wonderful!
Be the first to ReplyAppalling Remarks From Barback
My friends, sister, and I had traveled out to the island this past weekend to celebrate my sister's birthday. We chose to ring her special day by grabbing drinks at Cru close to midnight, and the service was less than exceptional - appalling rather. We were at their smaller bar, towards the back of the restaurant and one of my friends had gotten the attention of the bar back, thinking he was a bartender. This young, blonde boy proceeded to snap back at my friend saying, "Have you seen me make an f***ing drink or touch a f***cking bottle all night?! F*** off!" As a bartender myself, this behavior from any staff towards a customer in the hospitality industry is simply unacceptable - especially somewhere like Cru. What was supposed to be a special night at Cru for my sister's birthday ended poorly, and we went elsewhere.

We had dinner at Cru last week, the best lobster roll and the fries were outstanding with a really good aioli. Good wine selection and service was very good.very lively place on the water.
Be the first to ReplyDoesn’t live up to recommendation
We found this restaurant overrated and overpriced. Nice location but not worth it. The service could use improvement. We wouldn’t recommend for dining.
Be the first to ReplyThe View is Worth the Money
Every time I go to Nantucket, I go to Cru (and I've been going for years before it was Cru). It is expensive but worth the view from the back bar. If I can grab a table near the window, I get a bowl of their great chowder & a glass of white wine. They're both good. This time we sat at the bar, grabbed a drink & also drank in the view that's at the end of the Straight Wharf. Always a treat. Just too expensive for a whole dinner for me but if you can afford it, treat yourself. At least I know they have good chowder, wine & burgers. Such a relaxing view
Be the first to ReplyRelaxing lunch on the wharf
Great spot, right on the water. Prices are a bit higher but the location can't be beat. Enjoyed a leisurely lunch, sitting in the sun, watching the boats come and go.
Be the first to ReplyThe Luxe Life
On an Island who's slogan in 2022 should be "Why pay less?" Cru was, dish for dish and drink for drink, the most expensive meal of our week on the island. The location is one of the best on Nantucket, right at the end of straight wharf with stellar views of the harbor and the million dollar yachts. The oysters are superb and the fifth bends are grown only for Cru. A glass of NV champagne will run you $35, the lobster roll $48 and for maybe 6 ounces of lobster in a brioche bun with fries you might want to skip it. Lobster, after all can only be so good. A single U8 shrimp will run you $8.50. Cocktails were superb and my on-tap Belgian ale hit the spot of a warm, sunny day. Some have said the food has slipped in recent visits. The head chef Erin Zircher has moved on to have a baby and maybe Cru isn't what is used to be. Cru is a scene, a place to see and be seen. I don't regret the visit and the outdoor lunch was a classy way to begin the week's stay on the island. But if you don't have a hedge fund bank account it's probably going to be a one-time thing. That's fine with me. Glad we went but Cru is really mostly atmosphere in the end. Enjoy a little slice of the luxe life. After all, you're on Nantucket. Lucky you.
Be the first to ReplyDeclining
The location is fantastic, the reservation tough to get, and everyone wants to be seen there. We've been coming since it opened. But the food is now barely above average, the menu small in choices, and the crowded tables and noise level about unbearable. They add 20% gratuity to the bill, and at least for our server, this didn't exactly improve his attitude. They have a wonderful wine list, and the menu promotes caviar on every line, but who wants a great wine and caviar when someone is shouting across their table which is three feet from yours while servers jostle you going by or clearing plates? My martini took 15 minutes and wasn't cold. I guess if you just want to make money and allow people to throw it at you, it makes sense, but this is no longer a culinary experience and I'm not returning if it remains as it is. I don't need strangers to see me that badly.
Be the first to ReplyGreat vibe, great food and wine, great service with a view of the harbor in Nantucket
We had a fabulous meal with 11 people for a birthday celebration. Loved the seafood tower and oysters! The lobster rolls were also delicious. Excellent wine selection that the staff kept flowing all night. We couldn't have picked a better place for our special night.
Be the first to ReplyNice looking place.
A few had the lobster roll and said it was incredible. A few had burgers, just ok. Fried clams very good and the clam chowder was very good but no oyster crackers. We could buy bread it we wanted which we did and it wasn't worth it. Service was slow, drinks were fine. Great outdoor dining.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Dinner spot
Great restaurant offering a Beautiful view overlooking the water. Excellent food-we had the octopus, Lobster and oysters! The service was great and we were able to get a table within 20 min as a walk up at 8:30. We found that After 8 pm most places can accommodate you as a walk up.
Be the first to ReplyLunch with a view!
Landed here day one of our two week stay right off the boat. Got right in and had cocktail in hand within minutes. The view - the view!! In my opinion the best location for lunch on the island. Food was outstanding. Service impeccable - ate there FOUR times in two weeks being friends and family along for the ride. Fried clams - an absolute must! Huge shout out to our buddy Carter. His attention and service was absolutely top notch. Carter - we are still standing!! (IYKYK)

Be the first to Reply"I Wanted To Believe"
We heard that Cru was the BEST of the best. So on our recent visit to Nantucket we had to give it a go a couple times during our 2 week stay. First of all...I think that the location is amazing at the end of the pier and it affords great views of the water. The layout of the restaurant is great... and the bar is really nice. Just so happens, our server was the same on both visits, a sweet and very caring young lady named Ella (hope I have the spelling correct). She did a wonderful job on both visits and is instrumental in explaining why this review is not a 5 Star. NOT due to Ella, that is for sure. Our first visit at lunch was top-notch. We were so impressed that we knew right then and there we were coming back. The second visit...just a few days later was a horror-show. Ella did a spectacular job, recognized that we had been there a few days before. She even said "Oh...I remember you guys".... we were thrilled to have her again. On that second visit our server Ella took the order and repeated it back flawlessly. It's a great thing that we were having a good time...but the wait for appetizers was extraordinarily long. Server doing the correct thing and apologizing...but this was not her fault. Then the ****show started. Every meal came out with mistakes...totally wrong...missing this and that...or the incorrect meal. This is supposedly a 5 Star restaurant.. What went on in that kitchen, we can only imagine. Again, let me reiterate...our shocked server had repeated the orders when she took them and they were flawlessly taken. What was coming out of that kitchen, and the wait SO long it was embarrassing! This was a disaster and not what we had expected. The orders were delivered by other than the server, so again....can't blame her. Who checks the orders? If it were not that the first visit a few days before went off so spectacularly...I would have given Cru an even lower rating. Personally, I believe that this restaurant is much higher quality than our second experience, and we'll chalk it up and give it a try again next year. Not sure who was managing in the kitchen...but someone needs to check the orders before delivery..it's not that difficult! Thank you Ella for smiling throughout the lunch and apologizing for the lack of accuracy.... you are AMAZING! Maybe the restaurant should consider a new kitchen CRU.
Be the first to ReplyGREAT VIEW ........AWFUL SERVICE!!!!!
We've been going to CRU for some years now; it's always been pricey but worth it for the view, fine service and quality food...........not so much this year!!!! Firstly, the hostesses were rude and somewhat condescending. We (party of 6) were seated at a large table right near the hostess station and door; it was loud and very sunny so we asked if it was possible to move....."No, all the other tables (there were many) are reserved. OK, we stayed put and ordered a large selection of oysters (delicious) and champagne. The waitress brought Bordeaux glasses for the champagne ........we asked why and were told "we ALWAYS serve champagne in these glasses." No, CRU usually uses coupe's. After the first pour in the inappropriate glass the hostess reluctantly came over and plonked down the coupe's on the table.....again, why so rude? So next, a group of obnoxious women come in and wanted OUR table......the conversation between hostess and spoiled-brat diners is right there so we can hear. Well, moments later, the same hostess who could NOT move us when we asked, comes over and says "oh, I think I can help you out with that move now." Keep in mind we're waiting for our entrees at this point. So we are hustled off to a HOT, crowded, corner table in the extremely loud back bar just so these "privileged" women can have OUR table. The food wasn't extraordinary and wasn't even presented nicely. I will say that the warm lobster roll was exceptional but the childrens fish & chips was by far the best dish served. Halibut & sea bass were under seasoned and over done; no one even approached the table to ask how the entrees were. We chose NOT to have dessert and were presented with our $875.00 check. I find it unreasonable that CRU automatically added a 20% tip to our bill........NONE, not one, of the wait staff or hostesses deserved a dime for their horrible and condescending service. It seemed like whoever wore the best watch got the best service!!!!! I would rather cook at my home; yes, I'm a property owner. THIS IS OUR VERY LAST VISIT TO CRU AND I HAVE ENCOURAGED ALL MY FRIENDS TO STAY AWAY..........
Be the first to ReplyGreat quality seafood anc service
Excellent raw bar- colossal shrimp cocktail, local oysters, sashimi, crudo. Great wine and cocktails menu. Definitely go through the resturant to the back bar for the hidden treasure. So much better than the front. Right on the pier. Reservations a must for outdoor or groups. Plenty of room at the bar. The best waiter Shawn, who serves in the back bar, is friendly and very attentive to every guest needs and makes recommendations.
Be the first to ReplyNot so grand cru
We’ve been going to Cru for the last few years and looked forward to our lunch with friends. We were all remembering our meal last year, especially the lobster rolls and the amazing French fries. We ordered two dozen assorted oysters, which were excellent, as were the drinks. The meal went downhill from there. The lobster rolls were unremarkable, my double order of fried Ipswich clams arrived cold. And the French fries we longed for from previous years were mushy and boring, like they were scooped out of an Ore-Ida bag and put in a Taoist ER oven. We were clearly disappointed and asked to speak to the manager. She was polite but defensive, insisting that the fries were the same as last year, which was obviously not true. We knew that Cru had a new chef, so we assume the kitchen was just not what it was. The manager said it was a matter of “execution” but we are foodies, and know the problem goes beyond execution. We have since heard others describing similar experiences. We would go back for oysters, but if you’re looking to enjoy the Cru cuisine of prior years, prepare to be disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyGuess I don't like Lobster Rolls
Nice location, but that's where it ends for me. Lobster is my absolute favorite and I get it whenever I can, so of coarse I have to try supposedly one of the best Lobster Rolls around...MY MISTAKE
Seemed to be all parts of the Lobster minus the tail, way too expensive to not be tail, but what do I know.
Won't return.
Perfect waterfront location
Perfect location right on the wharf. You can’t go wrong eating inside or outside, the outside has great waterfront views of the ocean and all the boats and the inside is beautifully decorated and a “see and be seen” vibe at night. We ate here twice during our weeklong stay and requested outside both times, wish we would have asked to eat inside once. Had the hot buttered lobster rolls both times and were delicious. Watch for the automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill so you don’t end up accidentally adding another tip to an already expensive meal.

Food was delicious and the setting was gorgeous! Our waitress had excellent suggestions for dinner and for dessert!
