The food here was good and the restaurant itself was gorgeous too. I did get food poisoning from this restaurant though so not sure if I would go back.
Be the first to ReplyNice and Fancy place, Very pretty.
The food was good, I had the salmon. Also the ceasar salad which they make table side.

Whenever I got to nicer than normal restaurants, I'm always afraid that I will come out hungry but this was not the case! I came with 5 friends and we ordered 7 dishes to share. At the end of our meal, we were all stuffed!! The pesto pizza was my favorite but the second runner up is the focaccia because the ricotta mixed with the hot honey is so unique and it was so delicious - I will have to remake it! One complaint of mine is that the waiter stopped by our table 3 different times to ask us if we were done eating. We still had food on the table, still finishing our glasses of wine, talking and having a good time. I just feel like asking once would have been enough until we asked for the check. Other than that, I do recommend this restaurant because the food is great and it was overall very nice vibes. You have to make reservations!!

.This place is a perfect date night spot! It's also a great spot to go to if you're looking for a fancy night out with friends and want to get dressed up. They have delicious a la carte options, a table side trio you can choose or you can choose 1 (highly recommend the Caesar salad) & the cocktails that will have you feeling nice at the end of the night ( I enjoyed The Pooch) I'm a sucker for lychee! This hot place is located in Midtown and is easy to get to. They're participating in restaurant week until Feb 10th so go make those reservations NOW!
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant is beautiful, and the food is amazing.
Their take on tuna tartar is one of the best in the city (and generous with the amount of tuna), and their Branzino is fantastic. My friend had the salmon crudo as an appetizer and also raves about it. Only downside is that it's quite pricey but you are getting a lot for your money.

We decided to check this place out for Restaurant week, and so glad we did. After seeing the mixed reviews on Yelp, I was a bit worried, but it was so worth it! We had reservations for 8 pm on a Wednesday night. The restaurant was very easy to find and located right by Central Park west. Upon entering you see the beautiful stairway that leads you downstairs to the bar area where you'll find the host who will seat you. The restaurant is very spacious and elegant. Definitely not a everyday kind of place but, definitely somewhere you can celebrate a birthday, anniversary, etc. The restaurant week deal we had was for $45 (tax and tip not included). We had the choice of an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert. Every single item we ordered was delicious. Portions were big, and our sever was really chill and friendly. Overall, it was a great experience, and I cannot wait to come back and try some of their other dishes!!

After seeing the restaurant on Instagram, I already knew I wanted to try the tableside trio; their special of Caesar salad, pasta, and chicken parmesan served tableside, but first drinks (obviously). I started with the Pooch, a cocktail with vodka, lychee and St. Germain. It was delicious. My friend ordered the smoked old fashioned. It was served covered and smoke comes out when you uncover it. He loved his drink as well. We were already off to a great start. We placed our order for the tableside trio for $69 and the polpo alla griglia (aka grilled octopus). Each dish ordered separately costs way more in total, so it's better to get the special if you want to try them all. The salad was prepared in front of us. The grilled octopus was delicious as well. . The second part of the trio was the spaghetti al limone (aka lemon spaghetti). I personally wasn't crazy about. It was tasty for what it was, but the lemon just wasn't my favorite, but it is good. It's an acquired taste. The third and last part of the trio was the chicken parmesan. Chicken parm used to be one of my favorite dishes when I was younger. This one was definitely one of the best I've had. Again, the fresh ingredients are prevalent. The fresh cheese and sauce were delicious and the chicken was juicy. The second part of the trio was the spaghetti al limone (aka lemon spaghetti). Eddie loved it. I personally wasn't crazy about.. We obviously had to end with dessert. I ordered a cappuccino and Eddie got an espresso. Eddie was excited to get the zeppoles and I was intrigued by the pistachio tiramisu. In between courses they brought out chocolate biscotti and fried cheese. They add the powdered sugar to the zeppoles at the table which is fun. They were just okay though. Very light and airy, not greasy and thick like the ones you have at a street fair. I like those better. The pistachio tiramisu was delicious though. Overall, the meal was delicious, albeit expensive. The bill was over $400. Granted, we ordered a lot of food and drinks. Could definitely go and get the tableside trio with a cocktail each and spend way less money and still be very satisfied. I recommend going to Cucina 8 1/2.

**This is a review on drinks**My boyfriend brought me here as a surprise. I'm currently binging Sex and the City and he brought me here because season 4, episode 2 was shot at this restaurant and serves a "Sex and the City" Cosmopolitan. We got excited because we came during restaurant week. We had a flight to catch before and were happy to see that everything online said they would be open on MLK day. Unfortunately, they were not open at 4pm like we had hoped and saw. They did however open at 5pm. We decided to wait (for the still surprise for me at the time). The host was very kind and told us we were smart for waiting. He brought us what we thought were complimentary glasses of prosecco (we didn't ask for this, he just brought them). They charged us for them in the end. We were worried about missing our flight with the set menu, so we just ordered our cosmos. They were a bit on the stronger side, but a lot of fun. It was great to feel like Carrie Bradshaw before leaving New York.

We went here because it looked like great italian food and a cool ambiance. this place is unfortunately a tourist trap. the portions were minuscule and the food was not fresh. outrageously overpriced. more than most resturant in the city. 2 entrees and 2 diet cokes were $100 total. do not recommend. not clean either
Be the first to ReplyService=poor, cleanliness=poor, food=poor, experience=0I
Service=poor, cleanliness=poor, food=poor, experience=0I took some time to write this review, I wanted to make sure I was not writing out of anger and that I truly gathered my thoughts. I surprised my mother for her birthday 12/17 with dinner reservations here. I called twice to confirm the reservation and that it was a birthday. On the phone they said, all was noted and ready. When we arrived on Saturday 12/17, they told me they were closed, tables were being moved around, they didn't bother to look up the reservations... It was a mess. Finally when we were sat at a table, the wine glasses were dirty, place settings were missing. took 30 minutes to finally get a waiter, and this is after I stood up to speak to the Manager (who was just walkaround trying to look busy in an empty restuarant). I think I counted 3 managers and 4 waiters. We got 2 waiters, the first one disappeared, so I had to get up again to get a server. The 2nd server not only kept saying "your guess is as good as mine", she really did not care about our experience. Again I repeated this being a birthday and even after $500 bill my mother didn't even get a cookie with a candle (wish they had promised to bring a slice of a dessert with a candle). I was defeated at that point, and we were just dying to get out of there. Our plates/food was below mediocre. One of the managers had the audacity to come by after we ate to ask how everything was and when I told him, "not good"... he said "I apologize for that I hope it got better..." I absolutely do not recommend this place for dinner, drinks, or anything. I didn't even get into how the Manager was talking to their servers. Verbatim "Next time do not sit any parties of 4 or more without speaking to me first..." And he seriously had asked the server to move a family that was already settled for dinner. Save your money and go somewhere else, there are so many options in NYC.
Be the first to ReplyWe had an excellent experience at 8 1/2.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the food was even better. Amazing pasta and fish as well as their homemade gelato was off the charts. We will definitely be returning in the future and would encourage others to try it as it is new!

If you want to enjoy a fantastic meal in a beautiful space this is the place! We had truly one of the most pleasant dining experiences last evening. The beautiful friendly hostess led us to our table, and set the tone for the rest of our evening. Cocktails and wine were well crafted and chosen. The Focaccia was delicious as was the Chicken Parmesan and Tagliatelle. Service was attentive and so warm and welcoming. The small touches such as sending small nibbles and Bombolini to the table, strike a really lovely note. The general calm and attention to detail made this our new favourite spot. Next visit dessert is a must.
Be the first to Replylocation is probably one of the best in the city.
Near midtown and near the landmarks, helps this place become that quiet calming place to eat after a nice day in the city. Ambiance is amazing with the food served table side on certain items which gives the feeling that you are important and so is the food. The scenery seems like out of a movie set. Italian food is amazing with the chef truly dedicated to the art of serving. I hope you and your family give this amazing spot a chance.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is architecturally exquisite and the food
This restaurant is architecturally exquisite and the food is incredible. I started off with the pesto pizza and meatballs and they were arguably the best meatballs I've ever had. The mains were the branzino and chicken parm. By far the best chicken parm I have ever had. It comes to the table in a Dutch oven and is plated table-side with fresh basil and freshly grated parm. There is something about the sauce that differentiates this dish from regular old chicken parm. The tomato gravy has a zest and zing to it that is original to the restaurant. The chicken is well breaded, and the fresh mozzarella is to die for. For dessert we had the San Gennaro Zeppoles and Pistachio Tiramisu. The zeppoles were not great but honestly should've taken advantage of other unique desserts. The environment is a bit stuffy and I felt under dressed, but definitely highly recommend. Service was 10/10, all servers were very helpful and knowledgeable. The owner was also floating around the restaurant which is also a good sign.
Be the first to ReplyLooking forward to returning.
The essence of this restaurant gives me Titanic. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet were dining in the curtain lined booths, at least that's what I told myself. My next visit will be amongst the curtains. My dinner was early, which was quaint and quiet, just the way a good meal should be, stimulating and immersive. The chefs table calls to me for another day, for now, the dinner menu from my center stage seat. I will order one of each from the menu by the end of my days. My experience included the Rosemary & dried tomato Focaccia, Maine Lobster Calabrian Chili Spaghettoni, Swordfish artichoke caper Pesce Spada, Butter nut squash & sage Tagliatelle, broccoli rabe, rosemary tuscan potatoes. All of the food was decadent and inspiring. My favorite was the Spaghettoni. The dish was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth with every bite. The only item I didn't love was the tuscan potato side. The potatoes were dry and did not add to the experience of the surrounding dishes. First world problems though fuck the potatoes. The cocktail menu is impressive. My order of the "Tramonto" was delicious; alacran tequila, hibiscus tea, cointreau, lemon, honey, oh my! The experience, environment, and evolving potential of this restaurant will keep me coming for more. Until next time, cheers! X0X0

Few words to say the food is good, the service is great and the vibe is super chill and romantic. The staff pays attention to every single detail. We ordered the swordfish ( little bit dry and not so tasty but some people might like it blant) ,the caramelized onion pizza was delicious, the al dente pasta tasted just like the one we had in Italy and the desserts were so eclectic: from the puffs to the soufflé, everything was pretty good. We strongly recommend the restaurant. The food was a good 7/10, customer service 10/10 and the vibe was also 10/10If you don't like it we will refund your meal

My girlfriend and I came here for a girls night to catch up on a chilly Friday night and were continually impressed with our experience. The photos will tell the story, but we were most pleasantly impressed by: -the caesar salad making right before our eyes-the chicken parmesan emerging from it's own crock pot and garnished w/ fresh basil cut right before our eyes-visits from the owners-delicious and gorgeous desserts-tons of attention to detail, the friendliest staff, we felt like superstars.Thank you for making us feel so warm in 14 degrees!
Be the first to ReplyHad a lovely meal at Cucina 8 1/2.
Came on a Thursday night and the appetizers were delicious. Especially the Burrata, Beet Salad and the Raviolo. The ambience is calm (hard to find in the city!!) and the staff is attentive. The pork chop was delectable and desserts were all very yummy. Especially the lemon souffle, pistachio tiramisu and the salted caramel bomboloni. Will definitely return!

Be the first to Reply8 1/2 is now one of favorite restaurants in NY.
On a dreary day in NY when everything was being shut down, 8 1/2 was a calming oasis with superb food at terrific prices. I had a prix fixe dinner for $ 45 with two generous slices of tasty country pate, followed by Muscovy duck breast on a bed of spinach and wild rice in a berry reduction sauce and then topped off with a huge slice of flourless chocolate cake. That cake had so much rich, dark chocolate that it must have caused a depletion in the cocoa supply. An incredibly delicious meal.Even went back for lunch. This time had the crab cakes -- superb once again, fresh, delicious, lightly browned but not with those typical awful bread crumbs. It was accompanied by a light smear of Bearnaise sauce. The tables are set far apart -- a more than acceptable social distance. The interior design is a work of art: The staircase, the glass chandeliers and bar giving a waves with rainbows and the private banquettes. Will go back for sure!
