Unexpected poor meal
After waiting 30 minutes past our reservation time, we were seated outside, opposite a doorway to the bathroom, under 2 heat lamps and a bright light. Requested new table, waited another 15 minutes before being seated inside. Got shrimp scampi appetizer $28,; came with 4 shrimp. The “George Clooney” veal main dish was breaded, hard and not edible - sent back. Overall food quality was fair, and waiter a bit rude with service lacking. Would not recommend.

Always delicious restaurant in West Hollywood. Old school with amazing chicken parm and gnocchi with blush sauce. The desserts could be better . Great atmosphere!
Be the first to ReplyPopular old school WeHo Italian eatery
Classic West Hollywood dining destination although be prepared to be whisked back in to circa 1975. It's been around forever and sure feels that way. The space is extremely small and intimate and not always in a good way. If you get a table that lines up adjacent to the bar, you'll likely be sitting literally up against the buts of those just standing there likely waiting for their tables - 3 people deep. It's super annoying and frankly skipping or waiting for a different table - trust me on this one people. The food is old school Italian classic with some tasty, flavorful dishes. Definitely one of the best Caesar Salads in town so highly recommend. Service is and always has been excellent ant attentive. Pricing for the pasta is fair and other dishes leaning on the higher side. Again, remember this place is tiny.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Italian food/Dining experience
Our family of six dined at this restaurant after listening to Howard’s Sterns podcast. We were able to get a reservation thanks to the host on the phone. What a sweetheart. Our food was delicious and we all had something different from veal, chicken parm to shrimp. We were all very happy with our service and had an amazing dining experience outside. Our server Chip was fabulous who made sure our food was correct and cooked the way we liked. Highly recommend this place. Excellent Italian’
Be the first to ReplyA Sad Decline
I used to love Dan Tana's. The service and ambience are still impressive. The steak was overcooked and tepid and was definitely not USDA Prime. The scampi were tasteless and rubbery. The prices are astonishing. Never again.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the trip
Wildly overpriced. This was a generally very disappointing meal. The atmosphere in the inside part of the restaurant is probably the reason why this place is so popular. Would not recommend and would not go back.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced Italian
Food is good, but not worth the price. Service was inattentive. I might be back, but there are tons of other restaurants in LA. This place is just going on its name at this point.
Be the first to ReplyWorth the hype? Nah.
We had heard a lot about this restaurant. Celebs have mentioned it for years. So I thought it would be very special. I don’t know what these celebs usually eat… but the food was distinctively average. It was crammed, noisy and rushed. I think it only exits as it’s the place for washed up celebs to be seen. I won’t be returning.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful experience and about what I expected. Glad I was able to experience this gem
Was out here a few years back. After learning that dan tanas was the place where the eagles got the lyrical ideas for one of their biggest singles "lyin' eyes", I had always had an infatuation with the place. When I researched it, and learned it was an Italian restaurant in a little yellow house like building on Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood, I had to check it out and had made reservations for over a year when a woman I met and myself had planned a trip to Hollywood to check out the famous troubadour, the whiskey a go go, and cap things off with dinner and drinks on Saturday night at dan tanas. We were greeted by the friendliest of waiters and staff in red shirts and tuxes into the dimly lit restaurant where once you walk inside, you no longer know if it is night or day, nor do you know what time it is and believe me you won't want to care because you'll have that much fun. So the food, well what's pretty much been said is that dan tanas is what it is. Old school italian red sauce classics. You will not get authentic but you will not be dissatisfied. Pretty accurate! We started with the cheesy garlic bread appetizer, very tasty. Sourdough bread dusted with garlic butter and parmesan cheese with fresh mozzarella cheese on top. Very good bread and way to start the meal. Next, our server Igor prepared us a tableside Caesar salad, very good. Lots of dressing. I ordered the famous chicken parmesan and as a side, chose the fettuccine Alfredo instead of spaghetti. The chicken parm was every bit as good as it is touted, simply amazing, the chicken retains a nice moistness to it. That was how great the experience was!!!!!
Be the first to ReplyBirthday Meal
Recently had my birthday meal at Dan Tana's, the atmosphere in the restaurant was nice albeit a rushed feel about the whole experience. The food was good but not outstanding in our view, this is more of a Hollywood experience restaurant rather than a gastro experience.

We dined at Dan Tanas last night for a friends night out and we’re unhappy with how we were rushed to eat after paying almost $500 for 3 of us. Let me explain, first we made the reservation 2 weeks before the date and specifically asked for a booth inside main dining room, when we arrived the host tried to sit us outback in the patio outside, he said it didn’t state that on our reservation but we argued that point and were sat inside. The older waiter who has waited on us before and usually friendly and hospitable was none of those things this time, he rushed us to order and had the appetizer, salads and entrees on our table almost all at once! It gave us no time to relax and enjoy. We got the feeling that they only wanted to flip the table for another group or someone more important, as we observed other tables were not rushed as we were. Food was good, but mashed potatoes were out of a box at least the taste was generic. May not return due to being rushed for such disappointing service.

Great atmosphere, once you make it to your table. Food was all good m, and wait staff was fun and engaging. Will def be going back for special occasions.
Be the first to ReplyPretty bad
It’s quite scary to write a negative review of Dan Tanas in the context of so many positive ones. Perhaps we’re just not as cool and ‘with it’ as everybody else… As context we visit LA regularly and have eaten in pretty much every notable restaurant in Beverly Hills & West Hollywood; so hopefully can comment with some legitimacy. The one positive is that the food menu is extensive. The food itself was decent; in line with the other Italian restaurants we ate in LA. As others have mentioned, I suspect they add significant sugar to their sauces based on our dishes. The wine list is surprisingly restrictive and they did not have some of the wines listed. Cocktails were prepared quickly but were of poor quality - e.g soggy olives. The glassware looks like it’s from a cheap diner. We would describe the service as brisk and brusque. The tables are very small and close together. This overly ‘intimate’ atmosphere is compounded by obvious overbooking of tables. This was made worse during our visit due to the torrential rain which meant the patio area could not be used. We had a booking at 7pm and were finally seated just before 8pm. There is only a tiny waiting area next to the door and as our table was the the closest to the door we shared our dining experience with around 30 people pressed right against our table whilst they waited. The restaurant is marketed as a scene; somewhere to be seen. The clientele during our visit indeed provided a useful distraction from our poor overall experience. The regulars were easy to spot by their frequent exuberant displays of affection (lots of hugs & kissing) with the staff and the restaurant’s willingness to let them linger for hours on tables without food or drinks, whilst so many people were crowding the restaurant waiting for a table. These peculiar creatures were identifiable by an interesting mix of botched cosmetic surgery, appalling attire and a propensity to tell ‘industry’ stories very loudly. Based on what we saw this place is not the epicentre of cool; rather the graveyard of wannabes and hasbeens.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous food and service!
I took a friend from out of town for New Year's, the food and service were fantastic! Zach our waiter was friendly and attentive and I look forward to coming again soon.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a great experience
Dan tanas. It is not authentic Italian food, classic red sauce Italian/American staples. That said, it's delicious and it's well worth it. But make reservations well in advance, we made reservations more than a year before coming out here knowing that it's next to impossible to make reservations as the restaurant has about 80% regular customers which induce many celebrities. Ordered the chicken parm which was sizeable and delish. Started with a table side Caesar salad prepared freshly at our table and I will go out on a limb and say this was the best Caesar salad I've ever had! We also shared some cheesy garlic bread made with sourdough bread and mozzarella cheese. Again well worth it. Come here and see what a wonderful place this is

Pricey but great food and service. Tita Cahn salad, green beans, meatball, veal parm, and chicken parm were all very yummy! Got to see a soap opera star dining there as well which was a nice bonus.
Be the first to ReplyThey don’t make ‘em like this anymore! Perfect place to enjoy “Old Hollywood” style restaurant
Really enjoyed our evening at Dan Tana’s. The cozy setting is charming... a small, traditional Italian restaurant with that “Old Hollywood” atmosphere. It seems unchanged from the days when Frank Sinatra ate there! There were so many dishes on the menu that sounded great, so we’ll have to return.

A great traditional Italian, no airs and graces just great original food. The chicken parmigiana is to die for, great staff and good value aswell!

Dinner was amazing! You must get the veal parm. It’s one the staple entrees. We also had the Tana salad and the calamari. Please has an amazing vibe and a big thank you to Emily! You made our night very special.
Be the first to ReplySkip your way: not good and not a warm welcome for a very expensive price
If you want not to be considered because you are just a tourist,… this is the good place to go.
If you want to pay a very high price for a low quality level of food,… this is the good place to go. My meat was very tough and nervous, the Pinot wine that accompanied it was not good either. But my wife’s pasta dish was good.
We had a very bad moment here and I absolutely not recommend this place.
All for $120 for 2 (20% tip included) with no appetizer or desert!!
Skip this one
A Must Try
A fun, friendly spot not to be missed. Try to sit at the bar, Nick is the best! You can get 1/2 orders of most dishes if seated at the bar. Definitely try the Calamari and Caesar Salad.
It’s a one of a kind old school Italian Restaurant frequented by regulars and visitors alike. Everyone is happy to say hello and chat.
Fun and great food
We were looked after by Igor from the moment we stepped through the door.
The best most entertaining service and the chicken parmigiana is to die for.
Great wine, great atmosphere cannot fault.
We are UK based but hopefully is we visit LA again we’ll be heading straight for Dan Tanas..
So beyond disappointed
From having to walk thru a crowded bar area to get to our outside table to my remaining birthday cake left over and destroyed when placed in two round tin containers, I can’t think of anything good to review except my company was the best!
Valet is $14
Wait staff is RUDE
No substitutes , yet does not say that on menu.
Told we could not have two heaters. Only one per table.
Food was not good
It’s all hype since it has been around for 40+ years.
Have been going to this restaurant for years. And was beyond disappointed. Oh and waiters inside had masks on UNDER their noses. Excuse me, not ok!!
Waste of over $400 for dinner.
Fantastic traditional Italian food
Best chicken Parmesan I have ever had!! 5 of us. We had a variety of pasta and meat dishes plus salads and wine. All great
A unique dining experience with great ambiance. If you want traditional, red sauce, delicious Italian food, you have to eat here at least once in your life. The food is that good and the experience is that enjoyable!!
Fun Experience and an Amazing Staff!
I am visiting a friend in LA and we wanted to check out the famous Dan Tana’s! We did try to make a reservation, but we were not able to get through via phone and they do not have online reservations. That is totally understandable since it is a busy restaurant with lots of regulars. We decided to try our luck for a later dinner Sunday night without a reservation fully prepared to wait or be sent away upon arrival. Elizabeth greeted us and let us know that there are some reservations that need tables first, but we are welcome to wait. It was maybe 10 minutes before we were sat at a lovely table outside! The outdoor space was perfect! Still great ambiance, but with the added safety of transparent partitions between tables and fresh air.
The food was very good Italian-American favorites. We had calamari, Caesar salad, fettuccine Alfredo, eggplant Parmesan, and cannoli.
The service was impeccable! The staff were all friendly and welcoming. Valet made parking easy. It was a wonderful overall experience.
