Nasty bathroom, nasty carpeting awful service! Seating of people of color. Prejudice service, awful waiters and dirty outside carpet. Wouldn't recommend at all.
Be the first to ReplyI just love Dan Tana's.
The vibe, the old school-ness, the way you feel when you walk inside. So much feeling. And honestly, hands down the best Caesar salad and Chicken Parm in LA. Fight me.

Service was awful. Waiter talked down and double talked concerning methods of payment. Indoor carpet in outside seating was filthy and worn. Caution food and ambience was subpar.

If you want the best spicy penne arrabiata in town, and a bartender who knows how to make a proper martini, this is your spot. No messing around with tiny portions or trendy fusion foods or artfully arranged tiny plates here, just spectacular Italian food in generous proportions and good solid drinks.

This was the worst Italian restaurant I have ever experienced. First off the older brunette hostess lady doesn't greet you when you come in just waits for you to say you have reservations. She sat us in the back patio although we had reservations for me and my boyfriends anniversary. She laughed in our faces after we asked to be sat inside. Completely ruined our night. The food was mediocre the chicken parm was inedible. This place needs to close down or get a complete new staff. What a waste of time & money . Completely overpriced we were better off eating at Olive Garden . Complete crap. The Dan Tana legacy is dead. Don't waste your time or money here , such a let down especially for our anniversary.

Terrible food, staff sucks , stay away from this has been restaurant, I had better food in a pizzeria. The hostess is rude. I'll never come to this restaurant ever again they act like they're above everybody. Meanwhile, there are so many better Italian restaurants in Los Angeles. Don't waste your time or money here. Their time is done.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best Italian meals I have ever had.
The food is hot, fresh, and unique. All the dishes are signature Italian, which reminds me of my father and his family who are Italian. The wine list is great, and the service is top notch. My daughter loved the bread and butter!! Ask for Parmesan cheese and olive oil with the bread!

Dan Tana's had the most fresh and authentic Italian food I've ever had. We celebrated my daughter Birthday there last night. We had never been, but it definitely met all our expectations. The service and ambiance was completely on point! I would definitely recommend

This is one of thee classic Los Angeles restaurants and for good reason. The food is great, the atmosphere is festive, the waiters are historic, the star-gazing almost guaranteed. And the maitre'd got us a good table inside, after we were placed in the back patio on a rainy night-- that was incredible. Everything clicked. We started with a by-the-book excellent martini. Then everyone in our party ordered an entree: a superb eggplant parm, classic chicken cacciatore, spaghetti carbonara (my favorite), and the George Clooney Veal Milanese the size of a place mat. Entrees come with a requisite side of spaghetti. Our waiter was very attentive, with a permanent smirk and just the right amount of attitude. We brought our own wine (the corkage was decent) and the waiter knew the exact type of glass to use-- impressive. And yes, we had a star sighting (Sofia Vegara). A great experience all around.

Imagine going to a well known LA restaurant for a birthday, bringing expensive bottles of wine, only for food come out after an hour and a half and then be blamed by the staff for not ordering more appetizers or salads. Clearly the staff are on one, because there's no way a restaurant can't provide enough wine glasses and still charge a corkage fee. Also, how can you serve food about 10 minutes before closing (we had ordered at least 1.5 hours before and then try to rush your customers out when it's your fault for serving the food so late?

Our reservation was for 7:30pm for a party of 3 - we arrived early and yet did not get seated until 8:25pm. Meanwhile everyone around us and those who arrived after got seated earlier, while we were left waiting for an hour. Had high expectations considering the great service reviews, but unfortunately felt less than during our experience there and was disappointed. No compensation was given for the objectively long wait time, and that too for a small party. Unfortunately left disappointed with the service.

I started eating at this wonderful place about 7 years ago a few times a year. In the last 2 plus years, we became part time residents in WEHO and eat here as often as possible. This wonderful place has been around 58 years and I bet those have been good years for them. The staff here are amazing. From Zach with his smiling face and friendly personality, to Liz, Christian and Daniel. The servers are wonderful. Enough about all that. Now for the food......Garlic cheese bread that will knock your socks off, the clams casino which are amazing to the fried calamari which is always cooked to perfection. Mains.....chicken parmigiana is just like what you would expect at home. Shrimp parmigiana is mouth watering. Now lets talk about the "red sauce". I love to cook and my wife, kids and others always rave about my sauce. You just don't expect that in a restaurant. Here, it's just amazing. Cooked for hours, no floating oil, could not ask for anything better. To the staff.....Kudos for an amazing job well done. Can't wait to return.

Disappointed!! I brought my friend here for dinner to celebrate her birthday ( her first time). Host was rude, waiters rude, when we were seated the waiter could not believe we were not ready for our drink order- we literally were in our seats for 10 seconds!! All our food was delivered at once ( we ordered an appetizer first).. they did not pace the meal. How long can a restaurant be rude to its patrons and expect people to want to come back? Next time when I'm up in We Ho I won't be visiting this dinosaur of an establishment- so not worth it.

I'm an African American woman who went to dinner with my two white women friends. We had a reservation and there was available seating inside, however, we were seated on the patio near the kitchen. It felt like they were hiding us.The waiter was condescending and rude, although he probably thought he was funny. We could not get any service when a larger party came in. The food was good but not really worth the bad experience.

Service was amazing! I went on my birthday and they brought my ice cream and made me feel special. Loved the chicken parm
Be the first to ReplyYou gotta love this almost 70 year old institution.
It's been and remains a celebrity haunt. Always crowded and crammed with people in tiny booths. The service and food match the prices. You have to appreciate a place where all the staff are professionals. If it's on the menu then it's good, but I can attest to the excellence of the veal dishes and the lasagna. Start with the amazing Caesar Salad and finish with some Capuchino Crunch ice cream.
Be the first to ReplyMy favorite restaurant anywhere.
There's no place like it. Not even in NYC. Most of the unique and interesting places in this country are gone thanks to the corrupt corporate take over of almost all real estate. Thankfully this place still stands as a testament to better times.

Great good but ok service, our waitress was very sweet and they tried to right a wrong with my food so there's a plus. I enjoyed the crab claws... definitely a must try. The ambiance was nice, loved the decor and the seating arrangement.
Be the first to ReplyWe showed up on a very rainy night.
We didn't have a reservation. We had already parked valet. Went in and at first we're told "I'm sorry but I'm booked up until 10." It was 8:15 at the time. He then said hold on a second, walked away and came back around a minute later and said "you know what, follow me this way." We sat at the table and the service was amazing! Glasses never were empty. Wine was poured for us. We were never left waiting for anything. The lemon cheesecake was to die for. Best I've ever had for cheesecake. My only negative thing to say is the food needed a little bit of salt, but it was still SOOO good, plus that's an easy fix. Will definitely be back again.

My daughter and I loved this no-nonsense old Hollywood feel neighborhood restaurant. It's small, cozy, and the service was friendly and quick. Definitely make a reservation because it fills up fast. The entrees are a good portion size but a little overpriced. I would come back.
Be the first to ReplyWe celebrated a belated Valentine's Day at Dan Tana's.
It's an LA institution, and was definitely a fun experience. We had a reservation, and were seated on the patio within a few minutes of arrival. The patio is cute and to the side of the restaurant, but you miss a little bit of the traditional ambiance of the restaurant. I did not request patio seating, but was fine with it given there were heaters, and the night wasn't too cold. Almost immediately after being seated, we were given water and a bread basket. There's a wine list and a full bar, but no cocktail menu, so I started with an Aperol Spritz. We each got a salad -- I ordered the Caesar and my partner ordered the Caprese. The Caesar was more dressed than not--which I liked--but it had very few croutons for the amount of salad. The Caprese was fresh and had a good dressing, which we mopped up with some of the bread. The Caesar is pretty large, so it's a little frustrating that there's a $5 split charge had we tried to split it. I wish they'd just offer a smaller and cheaper portion if they are trying to discourage the sharing of appetizers. There is also a $10 split charge for dinner entrรฉes, but that wasn't a problem since we always planned to order separate entrรฉes. I got the signature and much hyped Chicken Parmesan, while my partner got the Veal Piccata. The waiter kindly double checked that he was okay with capers on the piccata. Both came with a side of spaghetti with a choice of sauce--meat, marinara, or olive oil. I chose the marinara and was happy with it, while my partner chose the meat sauce. The Chicken Parmesan was very cheesy and tasty, and the Veal Piccata had a good lemon flavor. I don't know if either was the best I'd ever had, but both were solid meals. Both of us finished the sides of pasta, and took home portions of each entrรฉe. For dessert, we split the traditional Cheesecake, which was excellent. Overall, the meal was solid and service was excellent from start to finish. We never lacked on water refills, our waiter checked on us repeatedly, and the food arrived quickly and piping hot. I have heard that there can be a wait on busier nights, even with a reservation, so it may have helped that we went on a Monday of a holiday weekend.
Be the first to ReplyWent for my fiancรฉes birthday last night.
Place is a well known classic. They were slammed but staff was so rude to me for no reason. Waited fifteen minutes to check in and the hostess, who saw me there the whole time, for some reason tried to insist I was fifteen minutes late. Our food took two hours and when we tried to check on it the server said they were just waiting for us to finish our appetizers (which had been done for 45 minutes) and then the pasta still took 30 more minutes to come out. By the time it finally came out we were late to our destination and got to enjoy paying over $100 per person for food we didn't have time to eat. This is the first negative review I've ever taken the time to write. Beware

I know this place is an LA classic and I've honestly never eaten here, but I have to rate this place because their valet service is absolutely horrendous and they locked my car over night. never picked up their phone when i was trying to get my car back so I ended up coming the next day and explained the situation to them and they made me pay another $14 just to get my car back from them. Absolutely horrible and I will never eat or park at their valet again.
