Food and service were amazing.
Beautiful ambiance. Recommend making a reservation! The oysters were our favorite appetizer.

steaks on point, sides on POINT. that creamed spinach almost had a mfr creaming you feel me. service was on point, super helpful and down to earth. our server started drinking on his own and we were like hell yeah brother. would definitely come back. that old timey vibe and beautiful ambiance makes for a great date night. slide on my bro John.

Valet parking is a little pricey but the attendant was nice and welcoming. The atmosphere of this restaurant was great had a jazz lounge feel to it very dark with candle light at every table. It is a small place so it gets loud with all the people in there but still great atmosphere. We sat at the bar and our server was the sweetest girl ever! She was so attentive of us even though the place was packed! Our food was amazing! Steak was cooked to protection and potatoes were excellent!!!
Be the first to ReplyI love Dear John's! The French onion soup is superb.
I'm getting excited thinking about it now. The ribeye is seasoned really well and so so tasty! The sides are all good to share with the group. My only complaint is that the drinks could be stronger. You pay a lot for a cocktail and they are not at all strong. Be prepared to spend some money btw. It's a nice treat but pricy!

How is it possible for four people ordering 10 different items to be so thrilled with each taste experience. This place is quite simply one of the best restaurants in LA hands down. Magnificent in every way. We had: Caesar salad table side-best ever Oysters Rockefeller-hearty size to perfection. Pigs in a blanket-wagu beef I think Sand dabs--again best ever Pork chop Chicken Parm which two of us aficionados couldn't rave about more Potato gratin and broccolini also superb. Not a false step with any of it. Can't wait to go back. To top it off our server Yesenia provided top flight kind, welcoming attentive service seldom found these days. Bravo!!

We decided to try this steakhouse recommended by our friends. The service was very attentive and fast! We tried the ribeye steak and a few of their sides. The steak is medium rare but the outside was too charred and dry for my taste. The sides were all delicious, especially the creamed corn. The restaurant itself is super dark and cozy. I had a hard time seeing the food I'm eating. The food was great but the environment personally wasn't my vibe. It was a bit too dark and feels tight and squished inside. But overall the restaurant was great!
Be the first to Replytoo expensive and overrated.
..used to be good in the old days. Used to go there all the time.

First time here a few weeks ago and it's pretty iconic from what I understand. Food was good, ambience what you'd expect from an old-school Italian place. Reminds me of something out of an old mob movie. It was great. Service was a little slow but would still come back.
Be the first to ReplyThe steaks are great and expertly prepared.
The German potatoes are outrageously delicious. And you can believe the craft cocktails. The service was excellent. I can't remember our server's name, but he was engaging, a real raconteur. We were seated outdoors, and almost as soon as we sat, it began to rain. Although still outdoors, we were quickly moved to a table protected by a canopy.

The history and ambiance are the only reason it gets 3 stars. The food is atrocious. I was strongly recommended the filet and ordered it medium rare, and it was extremely dry - no juices at all. It reminded me of wedding food made for 200 guests. It's also kind of laughable that streak sauce is a $5 add on when the mid quality 8oz filet itself is $65. Everything was just so blah, literally nothing was better than wedding food. But the service and ambiance were nice and obviously the place has history. Seems like they are kind of just skating by on that alone.

The charm, character, and ambiance is unmatched. The drinks are great. The ceases salad made table side was delicious. The steak was a bit fatty but worth the experience. I would go back. Must sit inside though.

Dear John's is for sure my go to when I'm craving delicious comfort food in a charming low key atmosphere. The food never fails to disappoint, it's always freshly prepared and hits the taste buds just right ! We love going too especially for Hank ! He is the best server/host and always makes sure that we have an unforgettable experience. We found this restaurant during Thanksgiving time in which we went for their prefix menu. I know what you're thinking; "Hmmm a prefix". IT WAS AMAZING! This enticed us to go back for a special event (my boyfriends birthday) in which we got to explore the menu and other food options and of course it exceeded our expectations. The next time we go back I for sure want to experience sitting in their outside dining area given the weather calls for it. Wether you're an out of town-er, new to LA or just looking for some delicious local food made with love, please take yourself to Dear John's!
Be the first to ReplyWhat an amazing old school vibe and great service.
Best French onion soup. The steak was crap. It's way over priced. They can't offer cheesecake with that lame other kind of cheese... might return for soup and a burger!
Be the first to ReplyDear John's is a classic steakhouse with an old-school vibe.
The steak was cooked to perfection, and the sides were simple yet delicious. The service was outstanding, and the ambiance was charming and nostalgic.

I've been to a lot of fine steakhouses but this was the very BEST I've ever experienced! We were seated in probably the best seat in the house. The artwork was beautiful. The lighting was very romantic and classic. Even my mother said this was one of the best places she's been in since being in New York.Started with the Cameron Coupe cocktail...GET ONE!Had the classic Cesar salad for two to share. The best I've had. Ordered the 18oz ribeye, medium rare, and it was beautiful! It was the very best way to celebrate my 35th birthday. So happy to have finally experienced this place. I have been wanting to come in here pre-Covid and I'm glad it's still here!

The food is excellent and the old school vibe is cozy and warm. Four stars instead of 5 because of the service. The girl at the front was just plain rude and made us feel like she was doing us a favor just to put us on a wait list. She barked at us for wanting to sit at one of the 5 empty bar stools along the wall while we waited for our table, saying we'd be in everyone's way. Guess what? We weren't! I'm still scratching my head as to how someone whose job it is to welcome guests is so grumpy and unfriendly. One of the servers (they have several) simply laid the performance on too thick, and by the 3rd time we were told the chef was Michelin awarded, we were long past the sales pitch. Again, the whole schtick wasn't very welcoming and it didn't make us feel like welcomed guests, as he rattled off his script without making eye contact with us once. Next time I'll just eat at the bar.

Okay, this place is the reason the phrase "don't judge a book by its cover" exists. I wasn't expecting much from this little diner looking place, but this is one of the BEST steaks I've ever had. The caesar salad is fun bc they come next to your table and make a little show out of it. The service is amazing!! There's a man in a tuxedo who is such an interesting human! He knows all about the history of the place, and can answer and of your questions about the food or alcohol choices. We had about 4 cocktails in total, & they were delicious! We originally had a reservation for 9, but they called us to let us know that their kitchen closes soon, so they recommend we come earlier if possible, which is very considerate! The parking is easy if you're open to walking about a block (there's so much street parking).
Be the first to ReplyWhat a great restaurant! Very nostalgic of sinatra times.
caesar salad made table side was great! prime steak was great as well. steak fries you have to get! Also, they had special of veal osso buco an that was by far the best thing we had! We will definitely be back :)

I work in tax and unfortunately it's that time of year that also happens to fall on my birthday. Looking to celebrate with my other half, she had booked a reservation for two since we had a wonderful thanksgiving here. I couldn't be more happy as I was craving a ribeye in dealing with clients all season and oh my god, all is well again...perfectly cooked, medium-rare with the beautiful sides.I love this place and will even so far as say that this might be my favorite restaurant in LA. Bold statement I know, but this place almost feels like somewhere I can escape too. It has a timeless vibe to it. Dark and romantic, candle lit, with the focus primarily on you (the food) and yours. I've been fortunate enough to be seated with Hank every time I've been here and he is a wonderful guy. I'll only request his service just because he's always been fantastic since the first time I stepped in. Do yourself a favor and grab a nice dinner if your miserable M-F, all is well again.
Be the first to ReplyReviews talk about the great bar.
Our classic martinis came in a small champagne glass. Always disappointing as the pour is short. Filets were good but at $65? Not worth it IMHO. Inside is super loud and tight seating. We sat outside and with heaters blaring it was ok however we were sitting on an unimpressive parking lot eating overpriced meat1st time there and no rush to go back.....
