Good... As Long As You Don't Mind Being Rushed
We were visiting from out of state, and spent $80 on Uber to get to and from this restaurant, because we absolutely loved the Din Tai Fung in Las Vegas, and were hoping for a repeat of that outstanding experience. This one did not live up to the Vegas experience. Good points: The food was good (though a notch below Vegas, which was excellent), convenient location, we had reservations so did not have to wait long, and the staff was nice. However, the ambiance was not as nice, and we felt very rushed. We generally do not take very much time when dining, so I do not like feeling rushed. We would possibly visit again if nearby, but would definitely not go out of our way to dine here again.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food as always
Second time to this location and had an even better time, if that is possible. Last time, we had to wait much longer, but we seemed to hit the sweet spot this time and only had a 15 minute wait for 4 of us. Great xiao long bao, hot and sour soup, and pork fried noodles. The thing that put it over the top is the dish of chocolate mochi xiao long bao for dessert. They are such a glorious texture with the warm chocolate busting through the dumpling wrapper as you chew. Always happy to come here and the staff was great.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent local favorite
The wait was long, but it always is. I've heard such good things for years and never got around to trying it. Went with friends for a delicious meal. Especially enjoyed the Xiao Long Bao, veggies, and desserts!
Be the first to ReplyJust an average Dim Sum.
First time coming here but it is just an average dim sum. Iโve tried better place and it is not impressive as others have said. The servings are small and a little pricey. It took awhile for us to get seated but the place was nice but no plans of coming back. There was no wow factor on their foods.
Be the first to ReplyGreat experience on par with other outlets around the world
Having dined at some of the chainโs other outlets around the world, this one is on the same excellent level. Really busy during the lunch service but found a place at the bar. Great service and friendly staff.
Be the first to ReplyAlways Excellent
We dropped in after a day at Huntington Beach and Newport Beach. It was a Monday late afternoon and we still had a c.1 hour wait for a table. As usual the food quality and taste is excellent along with every DTF restaurant we've visited.
Be the first to Replygreat dumplings but a little rushed
We have previously visited and ate at the bar, which was a wonderful experience. Be prepared for a 2 hour wait at all times of the day. We went on a Saturday night this time, close to 9.30PM. The food was great as always, however, we felt rushed because the server forced us to place our entire order, and all the drink we were anticipating we were going to have, before the 10.15 kitchen โclosing timeโ. Still the dumplings were amazing, the bok choy was delicious, and the crab soup dumplings were out of this world good. Decent value for money spent too, we did not leave hungry.

When I entered the restaurant, the Chinese decoration inside attracted me, and then I when I tasted the food here, I felt like I was back home
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Food at a Price
I ordered four items and they were all equally delicious, but make certain to use the sauces. Seaweed salad, pot stickers, dumplings, and the sautรฉed kale with garlic, YUM! Maybe I just need to get accustomed to California prices, but I thought $55 before tip was very pricey for this meal. Regardless, Iโd return and recommend.

Such a gorgeous dining experience. The staff are amazing and the food incredible! Attentive and friendly staff and the best dumplings ever!
Be the first to Replypopular and sometimes crowded
Very good and very popular with locals and travelers. Sometimes packed, especially for lunch crowds.

So good as always! We got there about half an hour before closing. They were able to seat us and serve us fairly quickly! Everything is so good.
Be the first to ReplyConsistently excellent
I crave Din Tai Fung. The dishes are excellent every time. The staff friendly and helpful. Itโs my go-to each time we head to CA.
Be the first to ReplyRidiculous reservation system and wait times
Their reservations system allows people to book a month in advance. People seem to fill in all the time slots as soon as available and then never show up. They must come up with something better. Once finally seated, their food and service is outstanding, but is it really worth the wait if you can't get a reservation? For me, it's not.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place, with great service
CON: I still give this place 5 stars, but we can start with what Iโd personally like to see improve. The wait time is long, on a Wednesday afternoon we waited 2 hours to be seated for a party of two. Then again I understand this is a popular spot, they seemed short staff (as the rest of the country right now due to labor shortage), and the establishment simply isnโt large enough to accommodate to the large crowds who enter the plaza. So although the wait time was long, I was not bothered, because having came here once before, I know the food is good, the service provided is excellent for their given conditions.
PRO: for starters, every employee here seems to be well trained in proper etiquette for their positions. Not only that but they are all so helpful, and considerate. I truly felt respected by the workers here, as a person, and guest. Our server helped us figure out the menu, options, and how to eat the foods we ordered. It was so fun, and I felt so included in learning a different cultures form of dining etiquette. She made to sure to recommend wonderful ways to enjoy our food as well. The service support was also very helpful in recommending and making sure our table was always accommodated at all times.
The food was excellent! This is my second time coming here, and Iโm just glad I tried different things, their buns are wonderful, I personally could not stop savoring the chocolate dessert bun. The food here is always warm, and theyโll even ask you such questions as to which good items Iโd like to enjoy first, so that every food item is fresh to our table. I will be coming back here when I get the chance, and despite the wait, this place has my loyalty.
Amazing food and well worth the wait
This is a restaurant for people that care way too much about how wonderful perfectly made dumplings are. If you do not care, you will not understand why people rave about this place. I really enjoy xiao long bao and I have gone to places around the country to try them. I have read about Din Tai Fung and how they approach the "art" of making dumplings. I have had this place on my list to try whenever I got back to the West coast. We got in the walk in line before opening at 10:30 am, put our names in and then wandered the mall for an hour plus. We ordered crab and pork XLB - they were wonderful. Tender as anything with a wonderfully thin dumpling shell and not chewy at all. The soup was tasty especially with the vinegar, soy, and ginger. The spicy wontons came next. They too were delicate and wonderful, although I am a pepperhead and would have liked more heat. The potstickers came out and were a beautiful combination of thin and crispy. The soups were excellent with tender noodles and the hot and sour was some of the best I have ever had. Two of the desserts we ordered were OK - the red bean paste sticky rice and the taro buns. They were decent, but not up to par with the rest of the meal. The dessert that was over the top and trumped everything else was the chocolate filled xiao long bao. Imagine the inside of a lava cake but in a little tender dumpling package. It was unbelievable.
Be the first to ReplyGood but not great. A little over hyped.
A lot of my friends have been hyping this place up so we went and tried it. Its was good but not great. We went early and were able to get a table without waiting. Service was good, food was OK. It wasn't out of this world like some people make it out to be. Glad I tried it but I wouldn't wait long for a table to eat here. Food was just par. Tried a lot of things on the menu. The BBQ Ribs were the best thing on it. Soup Dumplings and Fried Rice were average and the Buns were sub par.
Be the first to ReplyFirst Time Visit and Will Return
There were 6 in our party and we ordered a lot of food. My son recommended the place and it did not disappoint. We ordered a variety of dumplings, garlic string beans, shrimp fried rice, shrimp fried noodles, potstickers and buns. The food kept coming and we ate it all and had a little to take home as well. We visited during midweek in the afternoon and we did not have a reservation. We waited about 25 minutes for our table. The staff was pleasant and efficient. We will return whenever we are on the West coast.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Food, Great Experience
My wife & I had lunch at Din Tai Fung & it was one of the best experiences I have ever had. This was our first visit and the service was awesome. Everyone was very pleasant & very helpful. Jennie was our server & she was the best, very patient as she answered all of our questions with a smile & explained everything in detail. Jennie helped us with our order, making recommendations that were really awesome. Everything we ordered was so delicious. We ordered the Pork Xian Long Bao, pork soup dumpling which was made famous by this restaurant. Pork dumpling steamed to make a soup within the dumpling. This was very tasty & fantastic. Our next item was the Shrimp & Pork Spicy Wonton, another dish made famous by this restaurant. A boiled dumpling with a spicy red sauce poured over. Another excellent dish. We also ordered the Sautรฉed String Beans, sautรฉed & cooked with garlic, which may have been the best dish we ordered. I couldn't top eating this. Lastly, Shrimp Fried Noodles. This dish was good and we ate it all, but didn't compare with the other dishes we ordered. Everything was just fantastic & we ate it all. I know we'll be back & we'll try new dishes. I can't wait. Be prepared to wait a long time. We arrived at 1:30 P.M., expecting to miss the lunch crowd, but we ended up waiting 1 hour to be seated. Quite a line still at 2:30 when we were seated.
Be the first to ReplyThe Worst Restaurant in the World
I have been to many restaurants in 19 different countries including Ding Tai Fung in Daan District, Taipei and Taipei 101. This is the WORST!
Who would ever wait for 2 hours for dinner? Even if I check in after the wait, they asked me to wait for another 20 minutes. Even worse, they had plenty of open tables, but their terrible business practice is that they wanted people to see that they have a long line outside.....I will never return to this place. So shouldn't everyone! Stay safe!
P.S. All of the good ratings might have been written by themselves!
Awesome
I've been to 2 Din Tai Fung's- one in Shanghai and this one in Costa Mesa. Both are good, but my favorite is easily this one in Costa Mesa. The food is delicious and a work of art. We like all of the dumplings, especially the soup dumplings. Also the cucumbers. There's a reason it can be hard to get a table here sometimes- it's really good!
