Pricey dim sum but came here with my partner as they haven't been before. Got the XLB, dan dan noodles, and lava buns. It wasn't as good as I remember but the quality of food is still pretty good and for the price point as well.

This is the 6th DTF that I have visited (3 in Taipei, 2 in Seattle) and I rank this place as a top contender. Decor is actually the best of them all. Service was top notch as usual. The DTF management has the system down. Service quality is excellent throughout the system and this one did not disappoint. Food was excellent as usual. Signature Soup dumplings, drunken chicken, sweet spare ribs, pea shoots all prepared to the usual standards. The only knock is price. What can you do, you are in London. If you want cheap DTF get on a plane and go to Taipei.

Food is really good and the price is reasonable, the place is nice too, close to many shops and underground station. Highly recommend this place

If you have a chance to eat at a Din Tai Fung, do it! There are many soup dumpling places in China town area but this is what I consider the original!Favorite flavor is the classic pork soup dumplings. You can easily eat a whole order per person but if you have more people, order this one as your go to and then sample others flavors in smaller quantities. This is a must visit place for me wherever they have a location!
Be the first to ReplyYes it's expensive and the only reason it's docked a star
Yes it's expensive and the only reason it's docked a star is the price point. But that said, the quality is absolutely there, even for the simplest of things. I've been to other DTFs in Singapore, Taiwan and the US but considering we just moved a couple blocks away, had to try this out on a rainy Sunday when feeling too lazy to walk to Chinatown. Two of us ordered:* Pork XLB (5 for ยฃ8.80, 10 for ยฃ15.50): perfect thin skins with enough elasticity not to break. Lots of juice with a subtle porky flavor, but a bit too plain for me to justify the price. 4/5 but I wouldn't order this again as the price isn't worth it* Chili Crab and Pork XLB (1 for ยฃ3, 5 for ยฃ14.50): Wow a lovely crab flavor with just a hint of spice. I slightly preferred this with just plain rice vinegar & ginger instead of their standard soy/ginger sauce to not dilute the crab flavor. The best dish of the meal and absolutely worth going to DTF for. 5/5* Truffle and Pork XLB (1 for ยฃ5, 5 for ยฃ23): in Taipei this was our favorite (but we didn't try the chili crab there) so had to order a piece each just to see if it was as amazing as we remembered. Delicious bite but not as spectacular as we thought, and not worth ยฃ5 for one bite (but I would encourage truffle lovers to try it regardless to decide for themselves). 4/5 due to the price * Truffle and Mushroom XLB (5 for ยฃ9, 10 for ยฃ17.50): vegetarian version of the truffle and pork. While truffle and mushroom always are a nice combo, it just wasn't satisfying enough for this meat lover, even though, like the others, there was nothing wrong with it. 4/5* Minced Pork and Glutinous Rice Shao Mai (4 for ยฃ8.60, 8 for ยฃ15.50): the waitress recommended this which I have fond memories trying for the first time on the streets of Shanghai. While quite tasty, the DTF wasn't as satisfying due to the extremely thin skin holding the rice; I prefer this with a thicker skin to get the contrast of the skin and the sticky rice. 4/5* Cabbage with Garlic (ยฃ8): another waitress recommendation. When the plate arrived, I felt a bit disappointed as it looked so plain, just a small plate of super simple cabbage with a few cloves of garlic mixed in, nothing else. However after a couple of bites, I had to acknowledge the mastery in cooking this dish. The cabbage was absolutely perfect, very subtle but rich from the chicken and bone broth used to make it. 5/5 but I'm going to see if I can make it at home to save the ยฃ8Reservations are recommended and can be made via Google. Service was polite and overall we had a really nice time. If it was just a bit less expensive it would be 5 stars all the way but you do need to reward quality.

One of the many Din Tai Fung restaurants I've been to world wide. The food is good and brings back memories of the Din Tai Fung in Singapore. The menu is smaller and some dishes tasted slightly different than I remember. Great Xiao Long Bao soup dumplings and fried rice.
Be the first to ReplyLate lunch for 2.
This was my first Din Tai Fung visit outside of Taipei. Absolutely loved the deco, the bar, the seating design. We were fortunate to be seated in the back, top level, under the skylight, against the wall, with the best view of the restaurant. I have to say, service was 2 stars. It took a while for us to flag someone down to order our cocktails and food after we ordered tea. Also, the tea wasn't hot at all. And I was told they didn't serve just hot water, even though they poured hot water for our refill in the teapot. Regardless, it was hard to find someone to order and then no one checked in on us after our food came. We had to flag someone down for the check, etc. The food. Sweet & sour pork baby back ribs were excellent (served cold FYI). The pork XLBs were good, crab XLB were not my favorite. Braised beef noodles soup was subpar - the beef was tough. The pork chop noodle was pretty tasty. Green beans could have been crispier and hotter. Loved my signature cocktail which was beautiful and delicious. All in all, I would go back for cocktails and the XLB if I was really craving them and around the area.
Be the first to ReplyIt's wonderful all around-good.

I've been to various Din Tai Fung locations including multiple LA locations, Singapore, Japan, etc. This was also good. And while the newer locations are fairly consistent in quality, it does seem like they slightly miss the mark as compared to earlier ones. Although I thought Singapore was outstandingly good (haven't been to the original Taiwan locations). The XLB had thin wrappers and pretty good soup (maybe slightly less than I recall) and good flavor. Disappointingly, they were not piping hot as usual. I think the star was the spinach with garlic. While simple, it was well-executed. It was well-cooked, fresh, and nicely infused with garlic. I also had the shrimp/pork wonton noodle soup. The won tons were not bad. Good mix of shrimp and pork, fresh and good flavor. First time I've had it here. I know the noodles are their house-made ones, but it didn't pair well with the wontons (for my taste). They probably pair better with the beef noodle soup. I think I'm too accustomed to the traditional Hong Kong won ton egg noodles. Overall, pretty good.
Be the first to ReplyFun place to have an evening.
First found in Seattle, London is also fantastic retreat from the usual fares

I've had consistently good experiences at DTF, whether that be in London, Tokyo, or Dubai. They're most famous for their soup dumplings which didn't disappoint and the chili crab one is worth the money. The biggest downside is the price for the quality/size, which may be hard to justify with their regular pork XLB. However, if you're looking for a consistent XLB chain with good side dishes then this is a decent choice.

I am very passionate about soup dumplings in general and was overjoyed to be able to visit Din Tai Fung while I was in London. I was with my friend who visited their Taiwan location and spoke so highly of it that I couldn't wait to try it. We got an order of each of the soup dumplings that they offer and they came out all at once in a stack of steam trays baskets. Despite the fact that they all look the same from the outside the flavor inside couldn't be more different from dumpling dumpling. My favorites were the pork and the chicken. We also couldn't resist getting their house dry noodles which were so good we ended up getting an additional order.
Be the first to ReplySame name, far from same quality.
Having eaten at restaurant of same name at the base of 101 tower in Taiwan, this food is not same deliciousness. And expensive for what you get, about ยฃ30/person (bland fried rice alone is ยฃ9). Other reviews speak to the lower quality. The Soupy dumplings are just okay, I really built them up and let down my group.
Be the first to ReplyService is five stars.
Efficient staff who regularly check in on you, and there are a lot of them. As of late 2021 COVID protocols seem to still be in place. All staff wear face coverings, except maybe the attendant inside ladies' loo. I think you can walk-up, but it's easiest if you just book a table online since it's popular during lunch time. You show up and have 1h 30min from the time you are seated, which is plenty of time because they're pretty quick with bringing the orders out once you've ordered either via the app or from the server. Food is three stars. It's decent, but it's definitely not the Din Tai Fung you're used to if you've been to other branches. Flavors and spice have definitely been toned down for local tastes. So for me it's not worth the price. Although I do find it less greasy.
Be the first to ReplyAre you kidding you running a legendary spot with people
Are you kidding you running a legendary spot with people who can't speak Chinese? I tried ordering in Chinese to what I thought was a Chinese guy on a Saturday and as I spoke in Chinese he kept replying in English. The food is what it is the xiaolong baos where off I couldn't tell what it was the shrimp fried rice and the pork chops were still on. ย You ask for tea and it's a tea bag? The 3 goes for service or lack there of. ย The problem is if you go to Shanghai or Taiwan this place is so legit, but you can't come here and it feels like a mad rush to no where.
Be the first to ReplyWow, the food quality at the Din Tai Fung in London is MUCH
Wow, the food quality at the Din Tai Fung in London is MUCH worse than in Taiwan and even in the US! If you're a fan of Din Tai Fung in Asia or the US, I'd advise you against coming here. You will be disappointed. Their signature soup dumplings lacked the typical fatty, flavorful umami. The spicy pork and veggie wontons lacked any kind of spice or heat. The broth of their beef noodle soup was watered down in flavor and the beef cubes were a bit dry.Even their garlic dou miao stirfry (my most favorite veggie dish) came up sorely lacking. Only the tiniest shards of greens were used, leaving you primarily chewing stems rather than the more flavorful leaves. On the plus side, the interior decor is really tastefully done and the location (right in the heart of Covent Garden) is fantastic. Exactly though, this is probably the last time I ever eat at this Din Tai Fung location.

Poor service, more like a drive through, times limits on dining. Service was zero - no help with menu! Food appalling oily, zero flavour or spice! Absolute let down, unfortunately extremely overrated!
Be the first to ReplyPretty basic Din tai fung nothing special.
Just your basic chinese food. Menu is not too many choices to choose from quite disappointed with this. Overall, it was okay i expected to be just okay since i have tried the din tai fung around the world. Recommended to try and basic chinese food.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for babe's last day in London before flying home
Came here for babe's last day in London before flying home for a bit! Apparently he'd been before in Singapore and looved this place (it's a chain), so it was on his list of places to visit here for a while :) He loves this style of food whereas to be honest I don't nearly as much, but I still think the quality of this food (as far as this style of food goes) was really neat.We ordered the ten pork xiao long bao ("soup dumplings", originated from around Shanghai area) to share, and got the Special Noodle Soup with Braised Beef (for him) and Prawn and Pork Wonton Noodle Soup (for me). The xiao long bao tasted pretty good, and you're supposed to eat them whole after dipping in the sauce and garnishing with ginger. I didn't know about eating them whole at first, so a lot of the liquid went out! Even the server (very friendly nice guy) approached me and explained the proper way to eat them for best flavor, which was quite funny. The prawn and pork wonton soup tasted a bit tasteless to me, particularly the soup itself and the noodles. However my bf really liked it, so it's more a matter of taste for which type of food you prefer I suppose. The wontons themselves I really liked, and found them similarly tasty as the xiao long bao :)The decor inside the restaurant was modern and nice too, with lots of space! Waiter was well-mannered. We had to wait in line a bit to be first let into the restaurant though, as apparently they only had one check in person that day. Ah, and one more thing - here completely everything is online (for safety reasons I presume), so you not only order but also check out and pay completely on your own online! ^^
Be the first to ReplyVery good place for Dim Sum.
The restaurant is nice, service is efficient and food is really good and fairly priced.I had many baskets in the menu, from Xiao Long Bao to Buns and Jiao Zi and they were all really good.
Be the first to ReplyI love eating at DTF in Bellevue so while walking around
I love eating at DTF in Bellevue so while walking around London, I stumbled on to this DTF location which I didn't know existed. Imagine how excited I was. The menu is mostly the same as DTF locations in Seattle but there are some items unique to the London DTF. Overall, the food was still fantastic, service was great. Like many things in London, it was pricey as fuck but well worth it especially after walking around the city on an empty stomach.
