Domodomo impressed me with the quality of the fish.
Highly recommend for fresh sushi, my favorite was the crab hand roll! It's crunchy, sweet, and nutty. The ambiance is relaxed and sophisticated. The service was great and server was attentive. No complaints!

The sushi & hand roll course at DOMODOMO is arguably one of the best deals in New York City. For less than $50, you get a cabbage salad, salmon sashimi, two hand rolls of your choice, and a chef's selection of assorted and seasonal nigiri. The quality of the fish is exceptional, and you leave on a full stomach. My favorite bite of the meal was probably the branzino nigiri -- it was unlike any piece of sushi I've ever had in the best way possible. The food was matched by incredible service and a wonderful ambience. Our waitress was extremely kind and attentive, and one of the members of the kitchen staff came out to explain each component of the nigiri course. It was a truly amazing meal. DOMODOMO is a must-try!

The sushi & handroll set comes with a great selection of
The sushi & handroll set comes with a great selection of items for its price. To start, it came with the salmon sashimi (9/10, marinated in yuzu, not sinewy at all but was a bit firm & not as soft as i was expecting; aggressively big pieces of salmon) and the black sesame cabbage salad (8/10, far too salty for my taste, but loved the idea of incorporating black sesame into the dressing). I wish the salad was mixed before being served, as it was difficult to mix myself in such a small bowl. Then, I received 3 hand rolls. - black cod hand roll is always a favorite. super buttery flavor and you can taste the warmth and grill flavor. beautiful. only complaint is that it was sticking to the nori paper and made it difficult to eat. slightly too sticky. (9/10)- blue crab hand roll: a bit too fishy, felt like I was eating straight canned tuna and the tempura flakes were soggy just like the nori (5/10) - scallop hand roll: solidly impressed. tobiko's texture complemented the buttery nature of the scallop. nice spicy kick from the garnish. wish the scallop was just a little bit softer. (8/10)sushi: great! some pieces were a bit sinewy and not as tender as i would've liked, but i enjoyed the combination of flavors. some fish had wasabi underneath, others had yuzu or coriander on top. fatty tuna way too sinewy. my suspicion was that the fish was not too fresh. the truffle salt on the king salmon was to die for. however, the scallop was extremely fishy :(

Food: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Experience: 5/5Domodomo has been on my list for forever and I finally got to come here on a date. We sat at the oyster bar and I would highly recommend; you get to watch the oysters being shucked and person who works the oyster bar was so friendly. We also ordered oysters and they were all quite sizeable and very fresh. The other staff were great as well and did a great job bringing out the food when we were ready for the next - it was definitely quick, but we didn't feel rushed. I was thoroughly impressed with the flavors and creativity with some of the dishes. The use of yuzu and jelly with a slight twist for the first few pieces of the signature set were incredible. The nigiri had great quality and fresh fish, although slightly too much rice for me, it didn't take away from being great. The desserts were simple, but had great flavors, I would recommend adding for $2 with signature set. What we ordered:* Watermelon cooler* Sparkling jelly sake (peach)* 3 different types of oysters* Signature course* Black sesame panna cotta and lemon sorbet (+$2 each with signature set)Things to know: * I couldn't find the oyster menu online, but they had 6-7 types of oysters as well as lobster and cocktail shrimp* Res recommended* Good for medium sized group with res

We came here for date night over the weekend and enjoyed
We came here for date night over the weekend and enjoyed our experience. While we had to wait a little for our reserved table to be ready, it was the perfect little nook that was tucked away from others. We were pleased with it.Upon reviewing the menu, we chose to get a Sushi and Handroll course while also splitting 2 hot dishes. The fish was incredible quality and each bite was divine. The smoked pork belly was a fantastic dish as well. I really enjoyed the texture of the pork belly as it was thinly sliced and paired well with the rice. We had also got an order of the Uni pasta, which while good, was my least favorite item we ordered. After a couple of years of telling ourselves we would try this place, we are so glad we finally did. Really high quality food, great service and ambiance. Would recommend to anyone looking to have a nice dinner!
😒
We had a great lunch at Domo Domo.
The service and atmosphere were great. We ordered the domokase and the sushi and hand roll course. The sushi and hand roll course was a much better deal and we thought a better selection of pieces and 2 hand rolls instead of one. Our favorites were the toro hand roll and kabayaki. The fish was very fresh but the rice was a bit hard and not as sticky as some other places we've been in the city. I think next time we would select a few of our favorites from the assorted pieces and have those or just do 2 of the sushi and hand roll courses. Overall delicious!

Simply phenomenal! Miso Black Cod hand roll, and Bronzino
Simply phenomenal! Miso Black Cod hand roll, and Bronzino Nigiri . Service was equally as great!

DOMODOMO is such a staple in my book.
I've been here for date nights and for my birthday and everyone always loves it. The food is reliable, delicious, and fresh. The staff is always nice and tries to accommodate you the best they can. I haven't been to many other hand roll places so I can't compare it very well to its competitors, but I'd highly recommend coming here and getting both the udon and the hand roll set!
😍
Just amazing sushi with excellent service.
The quality is top notch. The restaurant has a young and hip atmosphere.

If you want some hand roll in NYC, this is the place!Make reservation! Cuz the last time I tried to get the seats in last minutes I can only get 5pm. The cod handroll is the best and I would order it every time when I am here. See my photos for all recommended hand rolls. The miso black cod us a must-try! It's literally melting in the mouth with such a fresh cod taste! The oysters here is great and fresh, but a slightly pricey here. Octopus is good, worth for a try. 5 hand rolls would make me full. If you would like to order other food, you gonna reduce the number of hand rolls.Great environment, the Union City one is much bigger but the environment and decoration for the Hudson Yard one is with more Japanese elements. The service in both places is excellent. It's easier to find parking near the Union City restaurant instead of the Hudson Yard one (for sure).
😍
Let me put you on some of the best sushi and sashimi EVER.
The quality, flavor combos, freshness, just everything was INCREDIBLE!!! I got the sushi and hand roll course and shared an uni pasta. It came with a salmon sashimi (high quality buttery salmon) and radish black sesame side salad, 2 hand rolls of your choice, and 9 pieces of nigiri for about $50. Though it is pricey it was worth it because the hand rolls were large and they didn't skimp on the amount of fish. All the fish was really high quality, but what I liked more was that the hand rolls and nigiri were paired with flavor that enhanced the taste of the fish. It was something I hadn't experienced before and let me tell you it was life changing. The uni pasta was great as well! It was creamy and they had a lot of uni in it. Did the outdoor dining which was nice and didn't feel rushed at all through the multi course process. Highly highly rec!!!
😍
Best sushi I've had in my decade of living in New York.
Certainly the freshest, and the flavor journey of the Dino case was perfection. So thoughtful. Will definitely be coming back.
😍
Came here with reservations for a group of 6.
We all ordered different hand rolls so ordering was may have been a bit difficult but the waitress/service was great. We all order drinks first, with a kagua yuzu beer that was fantastic. The honey plum was too sweet but that was my mistake as it was exactly as advertised. Before our individual hand roll order, we all split the grilled Octopus which I thought was good. Pieces were thick and portion was good. Flavor was good, with an Asian twist compared to the traditional Spanish influence I'm used to. For the hand rolls, I order almost every single one off the menu besides a select few. All of the ones j ordered were amazing. The fish was fresh with great flavor and texture. The combination of ingredients was great though I wasn't expecting the oyster and crab with crunch to come out the way they did for the outer wrapping part. My favorite was the uni, uni+wagyu and the unagi+Foie Gras. The uni was amazingly fresh, the wagyu was cooked to perfection with high amounts of flavor for a small piece and the Foie Gras was fantastic. I highly recommended these as a bare minimum when coming. The hand rolls here were one of the best I've had so far in NYC.

Visited DOMODOMO last weekend for the first time.
Bae and I made reservations for lunch and I'm glad we did because it was busy! After being seated, multiple waiters came to our table (at different times) to check on us - answer our questions / take our order. We both decided on the Sushi and Handroll Course. For my choice of two hand rolls, I chose the spicy salmon and negi toro. From the first to the last course - the salmon sashimi sat on a sauce that I'm not familiar of, but it was delicious. The cabbage salad was thinly cut and cool, like it sat in an ice bath. It was very refreshing. The fried potato on the spicy salmon was a nice touch, never thought that would work together. The negi toro was the star for me, with every bite I took I just wanted more. Last, but not least, the chef's choice sushi was filling. I enjoyed some pieces more than others, but overall I wish the rice was a little warmer.Customer service was on point. Everyone greeted us with a smile and seemed friendly. Definitely worth checking out DOMODOMO!

Sushi was good and the service was attentive.

It got loud with the tables nearby during lunch hour. For the price, there are other establishments that provide the same quality.

My boyfriend and I walked in and had the sushi and hand row
My boyfriend and I walked in and had the sushi and hand row omakase. The salmon sashimi was so cold almost tasted frozen. And all the omakase sushi taste like rubber. We both had diarrhea after going home. The entire restaurant also smell funny like I'm in a 30 year old restaurant. You guys should clean your place better and prepare the food fresh. Do not recommend and will not go back.

This place is truly great! Their food is delicate, fresh
This place is truly great! Their food is delicate, fresh and well thought. We tried all of their hand rolls, each of them is amazing, blue crab is especially good. It's not a traditional Japanese restaurant, but they have put their own creative thoughts into their food. 3 of us spent 260 dollars, reasonable price for the food. Definitely coming again!

The food is always very good, but please stop taking 9:00/9:30 reservations if you're going to start pushing guests out from the minute they sit down.

I got domokase, every food was tasty.
I definitely visit again for hand roll next time. Customer service was excellent. They clean our table so fast and took order fast.

Very good sushi restaurant with a Michelin Bib Gourmand
Very good sushi restaurant with a Michelin Bib Gourmand (great value). Quality of the food mostly matches the prices. Worth trying! The $48 course is the one to get for sushi, the $97 Domokase isn't much of an upgrade at all in sushi quality. The other courses in the Domokase are truly excellent though, and can make the upgrade worthwhile.July 2022:Sushi & Handroll Course ($48): 4/5 Salmon sashimi + Salad: 4.5/5 Chef's choice sushi: 4/5 Hand rolls: 4/5Sushi rice was flavorful and most pieces were inspired, except for the decidedly average tuna pieces. Hand rolls had very good fillings, seaweed could have more crunch. Great value for the sushi quality.Domokase ($97): 4.5/5 Oyster + Tuna + Usuzukuri: 5/5 Sea Bass: 5/5 (Exceptional, cooked and plated to perfection.) Scallop cold soba: 5/5 Chef's choice sushi + selected hand roll: 4/5Mostly excellent pieces, slightly elevated from the $48 course (with Uni), except for the again average tuna. Dessert: Hojicha pudding: 5/5Perfect wrap-up for the meal, refreshing, sweet but not overly so.

I absolutely adore DD and can't wait to return.
We came here for a late dinner reservation after being tipped off by friends about how amazing it is. They served some of the freshest oysters I've ever had and an assortment of hand rolls that were to die for. If you decide to get drinks, definitely check out the lychee martini and the sake selection. The atmosphere and service was literally perfect, as well. Kudos to you, DOMODOMO. Still daydreaming about this place. Thanks again.

I wasn't even hungry when I came here but I've been meaning
I wasn't even hungry when I came here but I've been meaning to check this place out. I started by ordering 3 hand rolls because I "wasn't hungry" but something about those hand rolls had me ordering more.I loved the blue crab and miso black cod hand rolls! They're unique and I haven't had those anywhere else. They flavor each hand roll really well and paired it with garnishes like sesame seeds, green onions, etc so that it really brought out the taste of each roll.Would recommend :)

Just stepped out of the restaurant after the hostess
Just stepped out of the restaurant after the hostess mumbled to me in Chinese. Super rude and disrespectful. However, I am sure the food is amazing :)

Honestly I don't think this place is quite worth the hype
Honestly I don't think this place is quite worth the hype and money. The hand rolls were a mixed bag, in that some were well worth the price and others were just average. To be clear, nothing here is bad, just overpriced. You can get consistently delicious hand rolls from other places for less. We got the Uni pasta too and although the presentation was very pretty, the Uni didn't have much flavor and otherwise it was just a creamy pasta.
😍
The food here is absolutely incredible.
I came with a few fiends and we decided to split a few hot entrees and then get handrolls. I ended up getting 6 or 7 of them and they were all delicious. I absolutely love sushi and the quality of the fish here was amazing. We got two hot entrees, the bacon fried rice and the uni pasta. Both were really good but I Iiked the rice better. Out of the rolls I got the lobster, crab, spicy tuna with crunch, spicy yellowtail, and unagi. They were all delicious and super hard to choose the best but I liked either the crab or the spicy yellowtail the most. The servers were both really friendly and attentive as well. We sat outside when the weather was really nice and had a great time. The cocktails were good too! I recommend the sparkling sake with yuzu!

Taco type. I do not recommend the handroll. Creative idea but this roll would fall all over, the seaweed is not like a bread where you can just bite it and separate it easily so you won't enjoy the roll as a whole unless you have a huge mouth, lol. I had the crabmeat one and it tasted plain. The salmon one also not impressive. Sushi: high quality for sure. 9/10. I had the salmon king and the sea urchin. Very good.Squid Ink pasta: 6/10. Overrated. The pasta doesn't go too well with the cheddar dashi. Again creative idea but in my opinion, it doesn't work out so well. I would rather have the real traditional Italian pasta or Japanese udon dish. I couldn't taste anything interesting except for the plain noodle. Save your stomach for the sushi please.Miso cod: 8/10. The fish was cooked well enough, soft but not fishy. Tasty piece of fish for sure. Well presented as well. Just a bit overpriced for something that could be made at home.

The last time I visited Domodomo, I tried the Domakase and had a wonderful experience sitting by the counter. This time, I went with two other friends and decided to order a la carte. We ordered the Mushroom Risotto, Katsu Sando, Squid Ink Pasta, Oysters, and an assortment of hand rolls.I enjoyed all the dishes that I ordered except that the service was subpar. We waited over 45 mins to an hour for our first dish to be served and had our oysters come last before the hand rolls. Although they are generous with the amount of fish they give you for the hand rolls, they got soggy quickly. Compared to Nami Nori, they were just okay. Before coming here, I recommend to make a reservation. Their Domakase is a great option, but if going with a larger group, I would suggest ordering a la carte so everyone can try each dish.
😒
Not worth the price for the quality of the food.
The nigiri isn't as fresh and the sea bass was ruin with the sweet purée.
😍
Possibly my favorite meal in NY.
We walked in on a weeknight we're lucky enough to be snag a seat outdoors in their covered seating area. Service: 5/5 - our waiter was super friendly, and gave us excellent recommendations. We took all his recommendations and we were not disappointed. Food: 5/5 - Divine. Not cheap, but not crazy for a Michelin restaurant. Sushi & handroll course: 5/5 - there's some special sauce on each of the nigiri that made this particular course incredibly memorable. The fish was fresh, and the flavor was elevated and unique. Maitake mushrooms: 5/5 - ordered based on the strong recommendation from the waiter and this was another favorite from the meal. Crispy and flavorful. Miso black cod: 4.75/5 - another superb dish that was perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious. Slightly less elevated than the other two but still fantastic. Octopus: 4/5 - solid octopus, but more forgettable than the other plates. Desserts: both the yuzu sorbet and the black sesame panna cotta were delicious. One refreshing, and the other unique and interesting.
Be sure and make a resy bc they fill up quickly, but the food is incredible. Always fresh and flavorful. I try and go every time I'm in nyc!

A lovely ambiance for a date night! We sat at the raw bar
A lovely ambiance for a date night! We sat at the raw bar in the back, very difficult to make a reservation so check a couple of weeks in advance and select the oyster bar. We both got the sushi & hand roll course. The hand rolls were definitely the best part. We also got the edamame and fatty tuna nigiri. For the hand rolls we each got a spicy tuna and then a spicy yellowtail and spicy salmon. Overall this was PLENTY of food for two people. We finished off with the lemon sorbet which was fine. If you're a beer drinker definitely get the Far Yeast.

I'd heard SO many great things about DOMODOMO but
I'd heard SO many great things about DOMODOMO but unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. Maybe it was just the menu I had that day, but I felt like the nigiri was very avant-garde when I simply wanted the classics. There was grilled banana, pesto, and sun dried tomato on top of my fish and I just couldn't get behind it no matter how hard I tried. The flavors were a little too out there for me. Not sure that I would come back :(
🙂
The service was very good and the restaurant had a nice
The service was very good and the restaurant had a nice ambiance/vibe. The fish was very fresh and of good quality. The wagyu don was a bit underwhelming however the uni was quite good. The chilean sea bass was delicious and will really melt in your mouth. Overall, Domodomo is a great restaurant and deserves closer to a 4.5/5.
😍
DOMODOMO NY was so good.
Great service, great food, great prices. The Domokase is such an excellent value for the quality of dishes presented. My compliments to the chef(s), everything was stellar. 10/10 would go again.

I became quite skeptical of this place because a friend had
I became quite skeptical of this place because a friend had said she didn't like the food that much. Plus, I booked a spot next to the oyster bar. Like is my view for the evening gonna be me and these oysters ?The restaurant is located on the "ground floor" and so easy to miss let me tell you! The front room was very dark and gloomy which left me feeling so nervous because I'm not a fan of gloomy vibes. Thankfully, the oyster bar turned out to be the best seating option. It's located at the back room which is fully lit and filled with natural light. You guys just book a seat at the oyster bar!!!We order the $48 special which includes an appetizer/salad, 2 rolls, and 9 pieces of sushi. We were served the salad first, which was shredded Japanese radish with sesame dressing. On the side was a few slices of salmon. Let me tell you I've only eaten raw fish once in my life and I absolutely hated it. Domodomo you changed my mind because the salmon was very fresh and not fishy at all! The sesame/radish salad is just standard and I could totally forget about her. Next up, our server brought our rolls which was served in a cute little taco plate. The spicy tuna roll is so delicious and had the right amount of spice. The unagi, on the other hand, was pretty standard. Lastly, the nine pieces of sushi was what I came for! Each piece left me wanting more!!! How could fish taste so chewy and sweet ??? I literally can't I love it.Highly recommend coming here for a nice intimate dinner at the oyster bar. Y'all don't neglect the oyster bar !!!

Overall, this was a good place with some memorable pieces and others, unremarkable. I am not one to generally seek out restaurants based on established praise or hype, but I felt that this place failed to meet those expectations had I bought into them. Maybe it was dinner, but I felt that the raw bar and sushi options hadn't tasted as fresh as they could. I attribute part of that to having come later in the day, but I've certainly had omakase and sushi in NYC that has tasted fresher and more pristine. None of it smelled suspicious or bad, but the flavors and textures were sometimes bland, like it had been left in the fridge a bit past its peak. The best thing from the Domokase was the Chilean sea bass. My friends said that their scallop risotto was very good so I am open to trying this place again for their hot selection. Their service was superb and the waitstaff were very attentive so I very much appreciate it! I thank them for their patience and diligence.

A delectable modern twist on traditional Japanese sushi! My
A delectable modern twist on traditional Japanese sushi! My girlfriend and I came here for a casual lunch date, and the food provided us with ample excitement and energy to get through a whole afternoon and evening of classes! We started with the Spicy Tuna Cone, which was both the best tuna I have ever tasted and most definitely the highlight of the meal, not to mention its unique shape of being an actual ice cream cone with tuna instead of ice cream. The truffle-oil-infused tuna and hint of chives jumpstarted our journey with a bang on the first bite. The subsequent addition of the wheaty granola cone contributed a light yet integral sweetness to the already exquisite combination of flavors. Finally, the spicy mayo at the end of the cone sealed the deal with one last kick of familiar yet jolting shock to the taste buds. We were then served the 4 hand rolls we ordered, which were Unagi, Yellowtail, Shrimp Tempura, and Spicy Tuna with Crunch. I had the Unagi and Shrimp Tempura, which were both fantastic pieces. The unique chocolate kabayaki added to the richness of the eel while the avocado and cucumber provided an excellent freshness to the mix. The combination of sweet and sour mango cubes with the savory shrimp took me back to the beaches of Cancun sipping on a mango daquiri. After that it was the Grilled Octopus (lunch only!) whose yuzu juice provided just the right amount of bitterness to balance the innate sweetness of the octopus and intense umami of the maitake mushrooms. Lastly, we ordered the Uni Pasta whose immediate visual shock with the squid ink pasta was already flirting with our taste buds. The pasta itself had a texture and mouthfeel which I personally believe to be perfect - cooked ever so slightly longer than al dente - but the real star of the show was everything else in this dish. The cheddar dashi in combination with the uni provided an insurmountable decadent and umami experience while the yuzu tobiko periodically outbursts with mischievous, bittersweet reminders as if admonishing the diner to refrain from being enthralled in self-indulgence. Finally, the service was the perfect balance between professionalism and genuine hospitality. We were pleasantly impressed by every aspect of this establishment, and would highly recommend it to anyone!

I love sushi so no trip is complete without some sushi
I love sushi so no trip is complete without some sushi (definitely recommend getting sushi in NY). We made reservations for 7pm and I'm glad we did because there was already a wait when we arrived. The fish was super fresh and I really appreciated that they were able to substitute my salad for miso soup! It was perfect for a cold day (~30 degrees) so it made the meal even better! They also give you the perfect amount so you're not super full or hungry at the end (more room for dessert). Domo Domo is a great choice if you're craving sushi and looking for a different experience -- I love that the bar seating is in a separate area so you can have both a private and bar seating experience.
🙂
A decent place for hand roll.
I decided to try it out since it has good reviews and it's in Michelin guide. I read a lot of review on how crowded it is but I was lucky on Thursday lunch without waiting.- Uni & Wagyu roll: definitely love the wagyu, so tender and tasty. I just think it's too much when combining with Uni, probably not my cup of tea but it's worth to try out.- Uni with Truffle Pate roll: don't have more than one hand roll with Uni if you're not a fan of it. It might be overwhelmed with truffle. I'd like it with truffle pate only lol.- Spicy Tuna with crunch roll: this might be my most favorite among the rolls. The first bite was like wth I'm eating, the second bite was it's interesting and the last bite was omg this is so good. Perfect combo texture of tuna and crunch.- Unagi roll: honestly you can't go wrong with unagi, anytime. They have the option to add foie gras, but I don't think it's necessary for me.- Nigiri (Salmon & Amberjack - house smoked): nothing too special to me. These are 2 safe options for nigiri. The house smoked amberjack was pretty interesting since I expected more smokiness to it.Overall, it's worth to try but don't go over your budget if something is not your taste. The setup outside is nice, just not too good when it's cold.

Solid modern japanese take on food, ordered all the top
Solid modern japanese take on food, ordered all the top recommendations (uni pasta, negi tuna hand roll, eel hand roll, miso black cod hand roll, miso black cod). I'll have to return when I'm hungrier for the entire prefixe menu set, and when I want a seafood appetizer (they have a raw bar section of the menu). My personal favorites was the miso black cod, miso black cod hand roll, and eel hand roll. For the uni pasta I was very intrigued to find cheese (possibly parmesan?) in it. I would have liked if it was more flavorful since it tasted a bit bland to me, I've had uni pasta multiple times before and wished it was more flavorful. Regardless I would order to try it at least once.Would suggest to make a reservation ahead of time.Ambiance- 5/5Service- 5/5Food- 5/5
