I came here for my birthday with my family.
I've been to many sushi restaurants but this place is by far the best. The fish was superb quality and very fresh. It's a small place but it doesn't feel crowded. We sat at a booth table in the middle of restaurant and what we had thought was a cold breeze from the door, it turns out there was a vent right under our table that was blowing cold air. Since it's the winter, it is already cold outside and to add this blowing air at our feet it felt even colder. I didn't want to take off my jacket. If we had figured it out earlier, we would have mentioned it our waiter. Our waiter suggested that all of us get the omakase for timing purposes. Otherwise, if your group doesn't care that plates come out at different times, then your group could order whatever they wanted. We had 2 people order the Domokase ($95), another person got the Sushi/ Handroll Course ($49), and another person ordered the Korean Fried Chicken. They did their best to time all of the sushi dishes to come out together. Everything is great here and to be honest, the price wasn't that bad compared to other omakase restaurants in the city. I definitely recommend coming here and making a reservation. Even on a Sunday it was full.

Came in on a whim Sunday evening right when they opened with 3 of my other friends. They were able to seat us right away! All in all, we were pleasantly surprised by this place. There were many items we loved and some we didn't like as much. We all got the sushi hand roll combo ($49) which came with an appetizer, 2 hand rolls, 9 pieces of sushi, and green tea ice cream. A pretty great deal if you ask me! The sushi was good quality and fresh! However, the hand rolls were just okay. We had a salmon appetizer with guacamole and teriyaki sauce. Sounds odd, but it was delicious! Probably my favorite dish I had. The king salmon sushi was equally good. The ambiance of the place was minimalistic and muted which brought a good atmosphere. It's a pretty large space inside with a lot of tables that could accommodate groups of 2-4. The service was okay, nothing to write home about.

Let me begin with saying that I've dined in at as well as ordered sushi takeout from domodomo on multiple occasions. With the amount of new omakase spots opening in the city it's hard choose which spots are worth visiting. But domodomo has been a staple spot in the city and for good reason. The sushi quality is undeniably fresh and the prices are all justified by how delicious the food is. Their takeout options are also really great and fairly priced. Plus they have the cutest packaging for their sushi takeout boxes, it's perfect for a picnic date.

Small space but you don't feel crowded, 1st hand roll spot nyc very quiet music is not loud they have a bigger room in the back for larger groups Clean space Our waitress was super nice The food was really good, the dumplings had a lot of filling and the sauce was tangy, we decided to pick out own hand rolls well served interesting combinations The toro was my favorite A bit on the expensive side but it's worth The lychee-mango cocktail was good but had a lot of pulp Overall nice experience I would recommend for a casual day/dinner
Be the first to ReplyYes, those Michelin bib gourmands are well deserved.
Dined here with my parents for New Years Eve. Made reservations as it was obvious this place would be busy, and it certainly was. The menu may not seem extensive, but the courses are honestly an excellent bang for your buck. I had the sushi and handroll course, which came with salmon tataki, premium sushi, 2 hand rolls, and matcha ice cream for $49, which IMO is very reasonable for the quality and prestige. As mentioned, the quality is amazing here. A lot of thought was put to every dish, and the fish was extremely fresh. We ended up adding a blue crab hand roll plate, grilled octopus, and a matcha ice cream with white chocolate syrup. All this combined in the end wasn't even $200 for the three of us. That's how reasonable it was for a Michelin restaurant. Combined with excellent service, I highly recommend this place for sushi enthusiasts.

One of the best sushi places that have been to in New York, so far! The quality of the fish is fantastic and the curated menu is great. I ordered the sushi and hand roll course, and was satisfied. The salmon tataki was excellent! The fish was soft and so tasty. The waitress came over with the set of nine sushi pieces. It was a little difficult to remember which was which, as I was eating them. But nonetheless, very enjoyable! The course also came with Matcha ice cream and red bean paste. I had always thought that I did not like red bean but I guess I just don't like low quality red bean because this dessert was wonderful. The space is beautiful and trendy, intimate as well. Good for small groups or a date.
Be the first to ReplyI don't recommend DOMODOMO.
While the dishes looked pretty, their sister restaurant Konban runs circles around them food-quality-wise & vibe-wise. Service at domodomo was nice,'which is why this is 3 not 2 stars. My handroll lunch contained fish that was fishy in the stinky sense & the rice was ice cold on my husband's sushi plate. Sushi, per all the pros, should be palm-temp. This felt like it was premade and extracted from a fridge. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? But the sushi quality was so low compared to Konban, it was wild. I wouldn't come back here. Ever.

I loved DOMDOMO, I went for a special dinner and it was great for that. Its a very intimate space, which I thought was very sleek. When I go out to eat with my boyfriend its always hard to get enough food to satisfy us so we ordered a la carte and just got a bunch of hand rolls. We honestly under ordered the first round so we got another 4 after we finished up. All of them were great, and we also tried the vegan options. Our favorites were the spicy yellowtail and the spicy salmon, but all were good! The yuzu drink was also super refreshing, totally recommend that.

We got their special take out box and their korean fried chicken take out meal as well. The sushi box included some maki rolls as well as a small portion of sashimi and an assortment of nigiri, edamame and some salad. I really liked the variety that was included in this set. Although the prices were a bit high, the sushi tasted fresh overall. My only complaint was that the sushi rice itself was lacking a little bit in flavour. The korean fried chicken set was a huge surprise as we didnt expect the chicken (being both take out and a Japanese restaurant) was delicious! Very flavourful sweet and savoury sauce with some nice chunks of chicken with minimal batter and fat. Also coming with edamame and rice, this was delicious! Overall, some good sushi take out specials but at a higher price. One annoyance was that you have to order online and cannot do it at the restaurant. They made an exception since I had no data at the time and couldn't order online but was still unnecessary.
Be the first to ReplyNot pictured were the hand rolls we ordered.
Got too excited that I forgot to take a picture of them, but they were delicious and fresh! The entrance to the restaurant is easy to miss but great ambiance in general.

Made a reservation for a week night and it was fairly full but not too crowded! My friend and I split the fried cauliflower and I really liked the toppings that came with it. I got a scallop nigiri and a shrimp tempura hand roll. I wasn't starving so that was enough for me but my friend got an additional roll. We also shared the black sesame panna cotta. I paid $40 and my friend paid $60, including tax and tip. We did not get any drinks.

Came in without a reservation on a Monday night and got seated right away even though it was pretty packed. The oyster bar was spacious and the ambiance of the entire restaurant was very dim and relaxing. We didn't order any oysters, but we did the sushi and hand roll course and paired it with a hot Hojicha Tea and Peach Lychee cocktail. The course started with Salmon Tataki which I thought was average. The 9 piece sushi was good, the toro is always to die for since it's so fatty. Then the seasonal grilled fish came out, and the sauce paired really well with the fish. We ended with the handrolls, which were flavorful. I got the spicy salmon and spicy crabmeat, but they weren't spicy at all. We wanted to order Uni, but it was already sold out for the day. Our total came out to be around $160 before tips.

The sushi & handroll set comes with a great selection of items for its price. To start, it came with the salmon sashimi (9/10, marinated in yuzu, not sinewy at all but was a bit firm & not as soft as i was expecting; aggressively big pieces of salmon) and the black sesame cabbage salad (8/10, far too salty for my taste, but loved the idea of incorporating black sesame into the dressing). I wish the salad was mixed before being served, as it was difficult to mix myself in such a small bowl. Then, I received 3 hand rolls. - black cod hand roll is always a favorite. super buttery flavor and you can taste the warmth and grill flavor. beautiful. only complaint is that it was sticking to the nori paper and made it difficult to eat. slightly too sticky. (9/10)- blue crab hand roll: a bit too fishy, felt like I was eating straight canned tuna and the tempura flakes were soggy just like the nori (5/10) - scallop hand roll: solidly impressed. tobiko's texture complemented the buttery nature of the scallop. nice spicy kick from the garnish. wish the scallop was just a little bit softer. (8/10)sushi: great! some pieces were a bit sinewy and not as tender as i would've liked, but i enjoyed the combination of flavors. some fish had wasabi underneath, others had yuzu or coriander on top. fatty tuna way too sinewy. my suspicion was that the fish was not too fresh. the truffle salt on the king salmon was to die for. however, the scallop was extremely fishy :(

The sushi & hand roll course at DOMODOMO is arguably one of the best deals in New York City. For less than $50, you get a cabbage salad, salmon sashimi, two hand rolls of your choice, and a chef's selection of assorted and seasonal nigiri. The quality of the fish is exceptional, and you leave on a full stomach. My favorite bite of the meal was probably the branzino nigiri -- it was unlike any piece of sushi I've ever had in the best way possible. The food was matched by incredible service and a wonderful ambience. Our waitress was extremely kind and attentive, and one of the members of the kitchen staff came out to explain each component of the nigiri course. It was a truly amazing meal. DOMODOMO is a must-try!
Be the first to ReplyDomodomo impressed me with the quality of the fish.
Highly recommend for fresh sushi, my favorite was the crab hand roll! It's crunchy, sweet, and nutty. The ambiance is relaxed and sophisticated. The service was great and server was attentive. No complaints!

Food: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Experience: 5/5Domodomo has been on my list for forever and I finally got to come here on a date. We sat at the oyster bar and I would highly recommend; you get to watch the oysters being shucked and person who works the oyster bar was so friendly. We also ordered oysters and they were all quite sizeable and very fresh. The other staff were great as well and did a great job bringing out the food when we were ready for the next - it was definitely quick, but we didn't feel rushed. I was thoroughly impressed with the flavors and creativity with some of the dishes. The use of yuzu and jelly with a slight twist for the first few pieces of the signature set were incredible. The nigiri had great quality and fresh fish, although slightly too much rice for me, it didn't take away from being great. The desserts were simple, but had great flavors, I would recommend adding for $2 with signature set. What we ordered:* Watermelon cooler* Sparkling jelly sake (peach)* 3 different types of oysters* Signature course* Black sesame panna cotta and lemon sorbet (+$2 each with signature set)Things to know: * I couldn't find the oyster menu online, but they had 6-7 types of oysters as well as lobster and cocktail shrimp* Res recommended* Good for medium sized group with res

We came here for date night over the weekend and enjoyed our experience. While we had to wait a little for our reserved table to be ready, it was the perfect little nook that was tucked away from others. We were pleased with it.Upon reviewing the menu, we chose to get a Sushi and Handroll course while also splitting 2 hot dishes. The fish was incredible quality and each bite was divine. The smoked pork belly was a fantastic dish as well. I really enjoyed the texture of the pork belly as it was thinly sliced and paired well with the rice. We had also got an order of the Uni pasta, which while good, was my least favorite item we ordered. After a couple of years of telling ourselves we would try this place, we are so glad we finally did. Really high quality food, great service and ambiance. Would recommend to anyone looking to have a nice dinner!
Be the first to ReplyWe had a great lunch at Domo Domo.
The service and atmosphere were great. We ordered the domokase and the sushi and hand roll course. The sushi and hand roll course was a much better deal and we thought a better selection of pieces and 2 hand rolls instead of one. Our favorites were the toro hand roll and kabayaki. The fish was very fresh but the rice was a bit hard and not as sticky as some other places we've been in the city. I think next time we would select a few of our favorites from the assorted pieces and have those or just do 2 of the sushi and hand roll courses. Overall delicious!

If you want some hand roll in NYC, this is the place!Make reservation! Cuz the last time I tried to get the seats in last minutes I can only get 5pm. The cod handroll is the best and I would order it every time when I am here. See my photos for all recommended hand rolls. The miso black cod us a must-try! It's literally melting in the mouth with such a fresh cod taste! The oysters here is great and fresh, but a slightly pricey here. Octopus is good, worth for a try. 5 hand rolls would make me full. If you would like to order other food, you gonna reduce the number of hand rolls.Great environment, the Union City one is much bigger but the environment and decoration for the Hudson Yard one is with more Japanese elements. The service in both places is excellent. It's easier to find parking near the Union City restaurant instead of the Hudson Yard one (for sure).
Be the first to ReplyJust amazing sushi with excellent service.
The quality is top notch. The restaurant has a young and hip atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyDOMODOMO is such a staple in my book.
I've been here for date nights and for my birthday and everyone always loves it. The food is reliable, delicious, and fresh. The staff is always nice and tries to accommodate you the best they can. I haven't been to many other hand roll places so I can't compare it very well to its competitors, but I'd highly recommend coming here and getting both the udon and the hand roll set!
Be the first to ReplyLet me put you on some of the best sushi and sashimi EVER.
The quality, flavor combos, freshness, just everything was INCREDIBLE!!! I got the sushi and hand roll course and shared an uni pasta. It came with a salmon sashimi (high quality buttery salmon) and radish black sesame side salad, 2 hand rolls of your choice, and 9 pieces of nigiri for about $50. Though it is pricey it was worth it because the hand rolls were large and they didn't skimp on the amount of fish. All the fish was really high quality, but what I liked more was that the hand rolls and nigiri were paired with flavor that enhanced the taste of the fish. It was something I hadn't experienced before and let me tell you it was life changing. The uni pasta was great as well! It was creamy and they had a lot of uni in it. Did the outdoor dining which was nice and didn't feel rushed at all through the multi course process. Highly highly rec!!!

We all ordered different hand rolls so ordering was may have been a bit difficult but the waitress/service was great. We all order drinks first, with a kagua yuzu beer that was fantastic. The honey plum was too sweet but that was my mistake as it was exactly as advertised. Before our individual hand roll order, we all split the grilled Octopus which I thought was good. Pieces were thick and portion was good. Flavor was good, with an Asian twist compared to the traditional Spanish influence I'm used to. For the hand rolls, I order almost every single one off the menu besides a select few. All of the ones j ordered were amazing. The fish was fresh with great flavor and texture. The combination of ingredients was great though I wasn't expecting the oyster and crab with crunch to come out the way they did for the outer wrapping part. My favorite was the uni, uni+wagyu and the unagi+Foie Gras. The uni was amazingly fresh, the wagyu was cooked to perfection with high amounts of flavor for a small piece and the Foie Gras was fantastic. I highly recommended these as a bare minimum when coming. The hand rolls here were one of the best I've had so far in NYC.
Be the first to ReplyBest sushi I've had in my decade of living in New York.
Certainly the freshest, and the flavor journey of the Dino case was perfection. So thoughtful. Will definitely be coming back.
