Domodomo impressed me with the quality of the fish.
Highly recommend for fresh sushi, my favorite was the crab hand roll! It's crunchy, sweet, and nutty. The ambiance is relaxed and sophisticated. The service was great and server was attentive. No complaints!

The sushi & hand roll course at DOMODOMO is arguably one of the best deals in New York City. For less than $50, you get a cabbage salad, salmon sashimi, two hand rolls of your choice, and a chef's selection of assorted and seasonal nigiri. The quality of the fish is exceptional, and you leave on a full stomach. My favorite bite of the meal was probably the branzino nigiri -- it was unlike any piece of sushi I've ever had in the best way possible. The food was matched by incredible service and a wonderful ambience. Our waitress was extremely kind and attentive, and one of the members of the kitchen staff came out to explain each component of the nigiri course. It was a truly amazing meal. DOMODOMO is a must-try!

The sushi & handroll set comes with a great selection of items for its price. To start, it came with the salmon sashimi (9/10, marinated in yuzu, not sinewy at all but was a bit firm & not as soft as i was expecting; aggressively big pieces of salmon) and the black sesame cabbage salad (8/10, far too salty for my taste, but loved the idea of incorporating black sesame into the dressing). I wish the salad was mixed before being served, as it was difficult to mix myself in such a small bowl. Then, I received 3 hand rolls. - black cod hand roll is always a favorite. super buttery flavor and you can taste the warmth and grill flavor. beautiful. only complaint is that it was sticking to the nori paper and made it difficult to eat. slightly too sticky. (9/10)- blue crab hand roll: a bit too fishy, felt like I was eating straight canned tuna and the tempura flakes were soggy just like the nori (5/10) - scallop hand roll: solidly impressed. tobiko's texture complemented the buttery nature of the scallop. nice spicy kick from the garnish. wish the scallop was just a little bit softer. (8/10)sushi: great! some pieces were a bit sinewy and not as tender as i would've liked, but i enjoyed the combination of flavors. some fish had wasabi underneath, others had yuzu or coriander on top. fatty tuna way too sinewy. my suspicion was that the fish was not too fresh. the truffle salt on the king salmon was to die for. however, the scallop was extremely fishy :(

Food: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Experience: 5/5Domodomo has been on my list for forever and I finally got to come here on a date. We sat at the oyster bar and I would highly recommend; you get to watch the oysters being shucked and person who works the oyster bar was so friendly. We also ordered oysters and they were all quite sizeable and very fresh. The other staff were great as well and did a great job bringing out the food when we were ready for the next - it was definitely quick, but we didn't feel rushed. I was thoroughly impressed with the flavors and creativity with some of the dishes. The use of yuzu and jelly with a slight twist for the first few pieces of the signature set were incredible. The nigiri had great quality and fresh fish, although slightly too much rice for me, it didn't take away from being great. The desserts were simple, but had great flavors, I would recommend adding for $2 with signature set. What we ordered:* Watermelon cooler* Sparkling jelly sake (peach)* 3 different types of oysters* Signature course* Black sesame panna cotta and lemon sorbet (+$2 each with signature set)Things to know: * I couldn't find the oyster menu online, but they had 6-7 types of oysters as well as lobster and cocktail shrimp* Res recommended* Good for medium sized group with res

We came here for date night over the weekend and enjoyed our experience. While we had to wait a little for our reserved table to be ready, it was the perfect little nook that was tucked away from others. We were pleased with it.Upon reviewing the menu, we chose to get a Sushi and Handroll course while also splitting 2 hot dishes. The fish was incredible quality and each bite was divine. The smoked pork belly was a fantastic dish as well. I really enjoyed the texture of the pork belly as it was thinly sliced and paired well with the rice. We had also got an order of the Uni pasta, which while good, was my least favorite item we ordered. After a couple of years of telling ourselves we would try this place, we are so glad we finally did. Really high quality food, great service and ambiance. Would recommend to anyone looking to have a nice dinner!

We had a great lunch at Domo Domo.
The service and atmosphere were great. We ordered the domokase and the sushi and hand roll course. The sushi and hand roll course was a much better deal and we thought a better selection of pieces and 2 hand rolls instead of one. Our favorites were the toro hand roll and kabayaki. The fish was very fresh but the rice was a bit hard and not as sticky as some other places we've been in the city. I think next time we would select a few of our favorites from the assorted pieces and have those or just do 2 of the sushi and hand roll courses. Overall delicious!

DOMODOMO is such a staple in my book.
I've been here for date nights and for my birthday and everyone always loves it. The food is reliable, delicious, and fresh. The staff is always nice and tries to accommodate you the best they can. I haven't been to many other hand roll places so I can't compare it very well to its competitors, but I'd highly recommend coming here and getting both the udon and the hand roll set!

Just amazing sushi with excellent service.
The quality is top notch. The restaurant has a young and hip atmosphere.

If you want some hand roll in NYC, this is the place!Make reservation! Cuz the last time I tried to get the seats in last minutes I can only get 5pm. The cod handroll is the best and I would order it every time when I am here. See my photos for all recommended hand rolls. The miso black cod us a must-try! It's literally melting in the mouth with such a fresh cod taste! The oysters here is great and fresh, but a slightly pricey here. Octopus is good, worth for a try. 5 hand rolls would make me full. If you would like to order other food, you gonna reduce the number of hand rolls.Great environment, the Union City one is much bigger but the environment and decoration for the Hudson Yard one is with more Japanese elements. The service in both places is excellent. It's easier to find parking near the Union City restaurant instead of the Hudson Yard one (for sure).

Best sushi experience ever
This was our first trip to Domodomo, but not the last one. The Omakase was perfect, the sushi was a great combination of a range of seafood and the handrolls were worth the visit alone.
๐
Let me put you on some of the best sushi and sashimi EVER.
The quality, flavor combos, freshness, just everything was INCREDIBLE!!! I got the sushi and hand roll course and shared an uni pasta. It came with a salmon sashimi (high quality buttery salmon) and radish black sesame side salad, 2 hand rolls of your choice, and 9 pieces of nigiri for about $50. Though it is pricey it was worth it because the hand rolls were large and they didn't skimp on the amount of fish. All the fish was really high quality, but what I liked more was that the hand rolls and nigiri were paired with flavor that enhanced the taste of the fish. It was something I hadn't experienced before and let me tell you it was life changing. The uni pasta was great as well! It was creamy and they had a lot of uni in it. Did the outdoor dining which was nice and didn't feel rushed at all through the multi course process. Highly highly rec!!!

Best sushi I've had in my decade of living in New York.
Certainly the freshest, and the flavor journey of the Dino case was perfection. So thoughtful. Will definitely be coming back.

Came here with reservations for a group of 6.
We all ordered different hand rolls so ordering was may have been a bit difficult but the waitress/service was great. We all order drinks first, with a kagua yuzu beer that was fantastic. The honey plum was too sweet but that was my mistake as it was exactly as advertised. Before our individual hand roll order, we all split the grilled Octopus which I thought was good. Pieces were thick and portion was good. Flavor was good, with an Asian twist compared to the traditional Spanish influence I'm used to. For the hand rolls, I order almost every single one off the menu besides a select few. All of the ones j ordered were amazing. The fish was fresh with great flavor and texture. The combination of ingredients was great though I wasn't expecting the oyster and crab with crunch to come out the way they did for the outer wrapping part. My favorite was the uni, uni+wagyu and the unagi+Foie Gras. The uni was amazingly fresh, the wagyu was cooked to perfection with high amounts of flavor for a small piece and the Foie Gras was fantastic. I highly recommended these as a bare minimum when coming. The hand rolls here were one of the best I've had so far in NYC.

Visited DOMODOMO last weekend for the first time.
Bae and I made reservations for lunch and I'm glad we did because it was busy! After being seated, multiple waiters came to our table (at different times) to check on us - answer our questions / take our order. We both decided on the Sushi and Handroll Course. For my choice of two hand rolls, I chose the spicy salmon and negi toro. From the first to the last course - the salmon sashimi sat on a sauce that I'm not familiar of, but it was delicious. The cabbage salad was thinly cut and cool, like it sat in an ice bath. It was very refreshing. The fried potato on the spicy salmon was a nice touch, never thought that would work together. The negi toro was the star for me, with every bite I took I just wanted more. Last, but not least, the chef's choice sushi was filling. I enjoyed some pieces more than others, but overall I wish the rice was a little warmer.Customer service was on point. Everyone greeted us with a smile and seemed friendly. Definitely worth checking out DOMODOMO!

It got loud with the tables nearby during lunch hour. For the price, there are other establishments that provide the same quality.

My boyfriend and I walked in and had the sushi and hand row omakase. The salmon sashimi was so cold almost tasted frozen. And all the omakase sushi taste like rubber. We both had diarrhea after going home. The entire restaurant also smell funny like I'm in a 30 year old restaurant. You guys should clean your place better and prepare the food fresh. Do not recommend and will not go back.

This place is truly great! Their food is delicate, fresh and well thought. We tried all of their hand rolls, each of them is amazing, blue crab is especially good. It's not a traditional Japanese restaurant, but they have put their own creative thoughts into their food. 3 of us spent 260 dollars, reasonable price for the food. Definitely coming again!

I definitely visit again for hand roll next time. Customer service was excellent. They clean our table so fast and took order fast.

Very good sushi restaurant with a Michelin Bib Gourmand
Very good sushi restaurant with a Michelin Bib Gourmand (great value). Quality of the food mostly matches the prices. Worth trying! The $48 course is the one to get for sushi, the $97 Domokase isn't much of an upgrade at all in sushi quality. The other courses in the Domokase are truly excellent though, and can make the upgrade worthwhile.July 2022:Sushi & Handroll Course ($48): 4/5 Salmon sashimi + Salad: 4.5/5 Chef's choice sushi: 4/5 Hand rolls: 4/5Sushi rice was flavorful and most pieces were inspired, except for the decidedly average tuna pieces. Hand rolls had very good fillings, seaweed could have more crunch. Great value for the sushi quality.Domokase ($97): 4.5/5 Oyster + Tuna + Usuzukuri: 5/5 Sea Bass: 5/5 (Exceptional, cooked and plated to perfection.) Scallop cold soba: 5/5 Chef's choice sushi + selected hand roll: 4/5Mostly excellent pieces, slightly elevated from the $48 course (with Uni), except for the again average tuna. Dessert: Hojicha pudding: 5/5Perfect wrap-up for the meal, refreshing, sweet but not overly so.
3 things wrong with what we got- Miso soup didnโt taste any miso The fish on the sushi was so thick No wasabi to the sushi (???) not under the fish or on the side. Then they said we needed to ask for it, but we where halfway through Pretty basic stuff. And who the hell eats sushi without wasabi, please stop eating sushi if you are this person.

The atmosphere inside domo domo is clean/calm and the tables aren't too close together like at many other restaurants. I couldn't get a reservation, but happened to walk in when someone had canceled. The sushi was very fresh and the sashimi were a good size. The handrolls could have been a little more generous though. The service was excellent too to top off the experience. I would definitely go back, hopefully with a reservation next time around.

We were excited to try Domo Domo as our reservation at Sushi Gonzalo Onodera was cancelled due to an air conditioning replacement the week we were in town.My wife and I each got the Domokase. The first course was 5/5. The oyster was incredibly flavorful! The second course was also a 5/5 and I think the sea bass was the star of the show. The third course of beef tartare was also good although not something I would order a la carte. 4/5From there we were both incredibly let down by the sushi courses. The sushi course was a 1/5. The fish was good, but the rice was plain sushi rice with no flavor. The rice is what separates good sushi from great sushi! The fish itself can only take a chef so far. It's as if the kitchen forgot to add vinegar to the rice. It was so dry and I had to dip most of my sushi in the soy sauce to be able to eat it. I've never had to do this in Tokyo or Houston at an omokase tasting. I'd rather eat sushi at Iwa Ya Teppanyaki in Houston than this place. So disappointed by the rice!(We ended up sitting for about 20 minutes with no service at this point until a different waiter asked us if we needed help. He then went and got our final dinner course and I have no idea what happened to our original waiter.)The hand roll course suffered the same issue as the sushi course. 1/5. I got a negi toro roll and the fish was good but the rice was so dry I had to dip the roll in soy sauce to be able to swallow it. Again, this is not how it should be. Iwa Ya Teppanyaki in Houston has superior hand rolls for a fraction of the price and is by no means a restaurant with a reputation anywhere close to DOMODOMO.The dessert was really good which was nice after being let down by the sushi and hand roll courses. 4/5.(We again waited for 10 minutes until a different waiter noticed we were waiting for our bill.)Overall, I'd be interested to try more oyster menu items a la carte and also a la carte, but I would never come here for sushi. Perhaps there was just a batch of rice that the kitchen forgot to properly prepare for sushi, but it was really really bad. Fundamentally bad.I do not understand the bib gourmand rating and the rave sushi reviews this place gets. Come to Houston and feast on much better sushi for a fraction of the price. Or go to a Michelin star restaurant in NYC that is tried and true.

Everything was incredible.
I would love to go back again and do it all over. Katsu Sandro was ok but the black cod was incredible.

This was my second time eating at Domodomo.
I was very disappointed this time, especially with the service! We were seated at a table that was extremely sticky - you couldn't put anything down on the table or even touch it but they made it seem like they were doing us a favor when we asked to be seated elsewhere. We were finally seated at a different table and when we were brought our water glasses, they reeked of fish! We were brought tastings of the wine we wanted to order and the glasses had stuff in them. As for the food, the sushi was good but we also got the scallop risotto. The risotto was cold and the rice was uncooked.

I'm giving three stars because of the prices which were just too much even though the food itself was elegant and tasty. The staff was very attentive and polite. The vibe in the oyster bar section was pleasant and more casual than the regular dining area. I might try the omakase which I believe this place is known for. I don't think I would try ordering drink here a la carte again.

Nice environment if you're looking for a vibey spot to
Nice environment if you're looking for a vibey spot to attend that isn't too crowded or noisy. Food was alright but definitely wouldn't go just for the food.Ordered handrolls a la carte though there is a handroll set menu where you can choose a 2 handrolls and are given salmon sashimi and chef's choice of sushi. Miso black cod handroll was the best in my opinion with the cod being flaky and well flavored. Rice in all the handrolls was a bit cold by the time it was brought out and seaweed was quite soggy. They do give a decent amount of toppings for each, but definitely not the omakase type experience with all elements feeling or tasting freshly prepared. Uni pasta was pretty good but they skimped out on the uni portions. Pretty pricey given their uni to pasta ratio.Best dish by far was the miso black cod HOWEVER very pricey for the size they gave. Probably 1/2 the size of a regular dish. The handroll portion of the cod was probably more worth it. Cod was very flakey and miso flavoring was great, not too salty and didn't overpower the dish. Would probably be the one dish I ordered again if I had the money to spare.

This was the first hand roll bar I visited in NYC and I so wanted to love them. I had the scallop and yellowtail first and it started on a high note but then it was downhill from there .. the toro tasted like sewer. It was not fresh and discoloured. It was probably the most disgusting toro I've ever had. I could not eat it.Sadly the seaweed was soggy from the minute it landed in front of us, as it came from the kitchen and wasn't made fresh and in front of us. Even if they couldn't make it in front, the seaweed could've came in the wrap so it wouldn't be soggy... As you can tell I wasn't impressed. I really don't like posting bad things about restos but I really can't recommend this restaurant after what I ate. The only thing that I had that was good, was the oyster. They were very fresh and the yuzu wasabi sauce was amazing! With that being said, I would not be returning.
Best Sushi restaurant in NYC! Omg the sushi are all fresh and everything taste good!! Location: It is located in Houston St. The interior is very intimate, but you can wear casual. I wear scrubs (coming from work, im a nurse). Lot of seatings and there is a bar. Service: our server was nice, explains well the sushi that we are eating. The girl in the front desk looked at me and my friend because we are wearing scrubs as if she does not want us to enter. Food: you have to order DOMAKASE! It has everything that you need to eat here! Lol everything is good! My faves are TUNA CONE: omg so good, the spicy mayo is inside the cone as if that is the ice cream and tuna is just so fresh on top. ROASTED CAULIFLOWER: cauliflower never tasted this good, and you can eat the green pea miso spread on its own, that is how good it is. SCALLOP RISOTTO: omg this was the bomb! It will be cooked in front of you! It taste like paella but so much better! KABAYAKI: omg the seabass is sweet as if you are not eating a fish! DONBURI: even though the daikon soup is just a little bit, the wagyu don is soo good! CHEFโs CHOICE SUSHI: everything was delicious and fresh, im not sure the names are but they all good, my favorite was the toro sushi. SPICY TUNA HANDROLL: so good too! Not that spicy. CRABMEAT with CRUNCH SEAWEED: reminds me of tacos because of the crunch! BLACK SESAME PANNA COTTA: my fave cause the black sesame has earthy taste and the panna cotta is so silky smooth. HOJICHA PUDDING: taste like tea and the pudding was so soft, melts in the mouth. PEACH LYCHEE: omg so good, the sake is little bit strong but the combination of the peach and lychee is perfect. WATERMELON COOLER: so refreshing and light. Price rating: 8/10, thats the only thing cause its Michelin Restaurant it will be expensive, but it is so good! Definitely will come back here! If it is your first time go for DOMOKASE. Get the scallop risotto too!
