Best food Iโve ever had
My fiancรฉ and I are lucky enough to say we have eaten in some of the best places in the world and I am please to say that Don Angie absolutely smashed it out of the park. The service was great. Food incredible. We shared the calamari to start and the lasagne for our main. Uttery delicious. We arrived at 4:30 to put our name on the list and were seated about an hour and a half later. GO.

I found it very overrated. The food wasnโt bad, but it wasnโt incredible. Very expensive for ordinary food. Donโt think I would rush back here or recommend to anyone.
Be the first to ReplyOrganisational Shambles!
My recent experience at Don Angies left much to be desired. It pains me to write a negative review, but the level of disorganisation and disregard for their customers' time forced me to voice my frustration. Upon arrival, my party and I waited to be seated but nobody came to seat us and so we took a seat in a booth outside, as we had done on many an occasion on our trip to New York. We ordered food and were served drinks we were told that the table was already booked. As if this wasn't bad enough, the restaurant had already taken our order before informing us of the predicament. This lack of communication and foresight only exacerbated the issue. Instead of making an immediate effort to resolve the issue, the staff seemed flustered and disinterested. To have our meal dangled in front of us, only to be forced to leave was a frustrating and disheartening experience. Needless to say, our appetites and patience had worn thin. What upset us most was the handling, or rather the lack thereof, of the situation by the management. Sadly, at Don Angies, there was no attempt to rectify the situation or offer any kind of compensation for our wasted time and dashed expectations. To call this experience disappointing would be an understatement. Don Angies has left a lasting impression of unprofessionalism and a complete lack of regard for their customers. A restaurant should be a place of relaxation, enjoyment, and culinary delight. Regrettably, our visit to Don Angies proved to be anything but. I sincerely hope that the management of Don Angies takes the time to reflect upon this incident and make significant improvements to avoid such failures in the future. Unfortunately, until then, I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking an organised and timely dining experience.

This was our second time at this very popular spot and after a great dinner the first go round, I was excited to bring the family this time. It did not go well. The service, which was first rate the first time, was pretty awful. Felt like the waitress was about 15 and never waited on a table before. The food and especially drinks took way too long. the drink orders were continuously forgotten. Most important, the food was poor. Yes, the famous lasagna was very good but too salty. The rest of the pasta dishes were below average. Finally, it was my birthday celebration and they forgot the celebration part during desert. Look, its a very nice place with a good vibe. However, I have been to way too many Italian restaurants in the city to recommend this one.

I was lucky to get a table for four and we had an amazing dinner. We started with stuffed garlic flatbread and chicory salad. The salad was fresh and had the great balance of sourness and sweetness. The garlic bread was full of favor. For the main we shared the famous lasagna, caramelized pasta and gnocchi. Everything was impeccable, and we especially enjoyed the caramelized pasta. The candy shaped pasta had the full of cheese inside and the sauce was flavorful. Save some space for the tiramisu. You canโt leave the restaurant without having it. Our dinner became much more special thanks to our server Jenna. She was sweet and attentive, and made our dinner memorable. I canโt wait to go back to dine at Don Angie again.

Don Angie is pretty awesome. Service is impeccable, food is delicious. The chrysanthemum salad is strangely amazing. The garlic flatbread was great, and the bbq calamari was an interesting dish. The lasagna was good, but I preferred the pasta dishes more. The sorpresine with mussels was my favorite, but gnocchi was a close second.

Food was fabulous and atmosphere was just what you would expect for a well known local NYC restaurant. Michelin star rated chef/owner Scott Tacinelli of NJ along with his wife Angie Rito (Cleveland native) are stewards of their craft. Known for their creative menus and unique lasagna, the coupleโs passion for all things Italian have garnered them well deserved success. A must go-to for locals and visitors as well.

Don Angie was absolutely phenomenal. Getting a reservation was an impossible task for me (Iโm on the west coast so was up at 6am three mornings in a row trying to secure one and never did), but my husband and I showed up just before 5pm and were able to get a spot at the bar where we got excellent service and enjoyed the communal atmosphere. The drinks were unique and inventive. My husband got some version of a hot toddy which was great and not too sweet. I got the Two Yoots which was able to walk the line of being very unique without crossing into too much. I would recommend them both. The food was the best we had on our trip, even beating out our experience at a 3 Michelin starred restaurant. The spicy cantaloupe and coppa was absolute perfection, and the lasagna was fantastic. I donโt know what some other reviewers are saying about it not anything special. The sauce as light but flavorful and the noodles are something I will dream about. We even took left overs to a friend who texted me later that itโs the best thing sheโs ever had, despite her being prejudiced about nicer restaurants not being worth the hype. It was fairly casual with everyone looking trendy but not fancy. Best meal of our 7 day trip

Was greeted and seated promptly. Our server was a doll and very informative. Scott and Angie are not only great chefs, they are beautiful people too and know how to make their patrons feel at home and special. We ordered practically everything on the menu and Iโm not kidding. Dish after dish was fantastic. The stuffed flatbread was to die for. The Chrysanthemum Salad was heavenly, best salad I ever had by far. We also had the prosciutto with papaya, sorpresine with mussels, gnocchi and the garganelli which was my favorite along with their famous lasagna pinwheels which were all they are hyped up to be. The grilled pork was so tender and the chicken scarpariella was outstanding, the best I ever had. All the sides were fantastic but the Japanese Sweet Potatoes was such an unexpected treat. Tiramisu and homemade cookies were delectable. Iโm sure I forgot a few things but itโs enough to say the drinks, food and staff were top notch in every way. A most enjoyable dining experience and I look forward to going back again and again.

This is my new favorite spot in NYC! My family shared many different dishes at the suggestion of our server and each one was outstanding. I will crave the potatoes forever. The food is creative without being fussy. Just downright delicious. And the service was impeccable. Get the chrysanthemum salad! A truly memorable evening.

Reservations are very difficult but my daughter was able to obtain a reservation for 2 for Sunday at 4:00. We have travelled to many parts of Italy and Italian cuisine is our favorite so of course we were looking forward to dining at a highly acclaimed Italian restaurant. Amelia was an exceptional server answering our menu questions and providing attentive service. We started off with the Rosemary Clooney cocktail and a margherita. Both were unique tasting and enjoyed them. The Chrysanthemum Salad was delicious and would recommend. We read great reviews about the lasagna but was disappointed in the taste. Most of the taste of the lasagna was the overpowering creamy white filling and then bits of meat. There was little red sauce. We only ate one apiece and just left the rest. It was quite expensive at $64. I have eaten better lasagna at so many other places. I would not recommend the cauliflower side dish. The sorbet was a refreshing dessert but definitely not the burnt pieces of pear on the top. Overall, the service was superb but disappointed in the food.

Very unpleasant experience. Treated my partner and I very poorly. I recommend that you look elsewhere if youโre looking to have a pleasant experience in the west village.

a close friend booked us here for dinner - a michelin starred italian restaurant in NYC. Service was phenomenal; food just ok. I've had much better gnocchi and the lasagne had an unusual presentation, but nothing to brag about. prices were reasonable though.

Not worth the hassle of getting a reservation. No one answers the phone, its Resy only or walk up to get on the wait list. Loved the stuffed bread, lasagna, pasta with olives was out of this world. Pasta with mussels and a strange flavor and no one in our party of 3 liked the dish. People do not dress up to eat here. So wear your flip flops and t shirts. No one cares

Salads were great. Pastas tiny and tasteless - at least the one that looked like candy and the Gnocchi where honestly - we could not taste the cheese . It tasted like potato puffs. The mains - the pork and the veal - were terribly overcooked. And the sauces were also tasteless. Sorry to say - I make better Italian food than this. Even updated Italian food. Kind of pretentious.

Itโs rare these days to have an experience that truly takes you away for a few hours. From the moment we walked in the door, we were treated like old friends. The interior is warm and cozy but definitely full of energy. We were fortunate to grab a table on New Yearโs Eve and there were even NYE party favors on the table. We decided to work our way through several dishes to try a variety of what they offered. My wife is a pescatarian and it was very easy to find things that were interesting and that we could share. We tried several items on the menu and were so impressed with the layers of flavors that we honestly could not pick a favorite. With that being said, a few MUST HAVES would be the stuffed garlic flatbread, chrysanthemum salad (out of this world), Sorpresine and smoked mussels and the Steak Al Limone (had that one to myself:)). However, you really canโt go wrong here. The service was fantastic!!! Our waiter Mikey became our new best friend. And, the rest of the team was all over it! We never needed anything. It was simply wonderful!!!!!! The entire Don Angie team really seems to do everything they can to make you feel at home. And, we did!!!!!! A definite must if youโre in the city!

My family and I recently ate at Don Angie to celebrate my daughter's birthday. She did the research and this was her choice based on various reviews. We were not disappointed. Don Angie lived up to the praise in every aspect.
Every course was excellent in both flavor and presentation. From the flatbread, to papaya and prosciutto to chrysanthemum salad-each bite was a savory treat that exceeded our expectations. The lasagna was rich and luscious, the steak juicy and the sourdough cacciatore uniquely satisfying and delightful. I am always impressed when the mastery of flavors meets the expectations created by the descriptions and plating. Delicious all around.
And, there are a few interesting house cocktails, my favorite was Nonna's little nip, a sparkling bitter and citrus-y perfection, and some of my family had a watermelon drink which I stole a sip of when they weren't looking-tasty! We found the staff to be very friendly and professional-sometimes a difficult balance. Our server, Kevin, greeted us with a smile and good humor, patiently listened to our questions and seemed to genuinely consider the answers. He was excellent. The food was excellent. The drinks and wine were excellent. (Oh sure, it was a bit noisy, but places where everyone is enjoying themselves usually are!)
We live in the Sacramento area and have lamented the loss of our beloved Italian icon, Biba...so Don Angie folks, how about opening another restaurant out our way?? :-D
A Delicious Italian Dining Experience!
I would definitely recommend you make reservations to ensure you have the opportunity to dine here. From my first encounter with a manager, Aron, the staff was warm, friendly, and welcoming. Aronโs recommendations were spot on. We shared the lasagna which is one of the house specials. It was delicious. We started with the chrysanthemum salad - light and flavorful - a house take on a Cesar salad. We also shared an order of prosciutto and papaya. Another spin on a traditional that worked so well with honey flavored walnuts. Portions are generous. Our server, Elizabeth was warm, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere has a hip and welcoming vibe. A definite must when in NYC!

Isn't service supposed to be part of the rating? The maรฎtre d' was unfriendly and rude. The waitress was not friendly. The cocktails were uninspired. The little booths were nice and intimate. The food - prosciutto papaya salad, Japanese sweet potatoes, lasagna, and even the focaccia - was amazingly good. The orange duck was uninspired. I would not recommend to friends after this experience though. There are many other places to eat with as good food where you are treated better.

We ate at one of the Amex sponsored booths, which was set up perfectly. Our server, Mikey L. could not have been better. Probably one of the best restaurant experiences we had.
Be the first to ReplyI am now a lover of eggplant
My love for this place started with my first bite of the papaya salad. But then I had the lasagna which was so different but delicious. Could everything be wonderful? I dived into my husbandโs eggplant which is my least favorite veggie and I could not believe how great it tasted. I tried another and then pulled the dish closer to me when no one was looking. I didnโt want to share this. I ended my night with the peach sorbet which
was the perfect texture and taste. I was so fortunate that others at the table allowed me to sample their meals. Service was the best and eating outside was great. If you are in NYC, this is a great place to taste a new twist on Italian.
