I like this place a lot, but can't help but compare to my other 2 more favorite spots in the hood, Gilberts and La Talpa.Their salsa is the bomb and different than the other 2, love the garlickiness of it.I had a potato taco and a cheese enchilada. Lunch special is spot on from a price perspective, but I like the potato taco and enchilada better and gilberts and the enchilada better at la talpa. What I do love here are the comfy booths, that's reason enough to choose this one over the other 2. They also have solid frozen margaritas, I had a mango that wasn't too sweet relative to others I've had.
Be the first to ReplyWent here for the first time today to celebrate my birthday.
The potato taco, rice/beans, margaritas, chips/salsa, and service was perfection. Will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyYes Don's has been there for 40 something years.
After reading the reviews about the food and drinks I decided to go there for a quick lunch. The food is just what I expected, decent. I noticed they have a good locals following. I've had better carnitas elsewhere. The cantina sign and faรงade makes it look really inviting. I was lucky to get a parking spot on their property from the ally way behind,3 spots total. Enter the restaurant and the old school charm, has left the building. The booths in the bar area is probably the best option. Best meaning the, least depressing. The room I sat in looked like it was a muerto tomb. What were they thinking with this dark grey sprayed on stone everywhere? Cave like feeling, depressingly unappetizing, a cenote without water to float around in? NAILED IT!The people who wrote the good reviews surely just keep their head down and stuff their face.

Wait staff is good, food is okay, ambiance is a little kitschy but it's why I've been back a few times.
Be the first to ReplyThis is another long-standing neighborhood fixture.
Great food, great atmosphere and, mostly, great people. Everyone there is friendly...but...the #1 guy there is behind the bar ...CARLOS. Makes the best margaritas. My fav is a skinny margarita. Don't like ''em too sweet. Carlos squeezes a whole lime into these and the are perfecto!!!!Food: I have a few favorite. A wet machaca burrito. Spenser steak tacos. Carne asada torta. (Even their fries (which you won't see ordered) are amazing. Carnitas. And moreDefinitely worth a visit!
Be the first to ReplyI happen to come across this place by driving by.
I ordered the chili vede and it was delicious. Our server Jorge, was on point. Making sure everything we ordered met there standards and checked on us for drinks etc. Over all I'll definitely be back and recommend this old school ethnic food.
Be the first to ReplyIYKYK!! This place is fire.
. if you want bomb authentic enchiladas, ceviche and some delicious fish/asada tacos then this is the place you wanna try out also their chips and salsa is super addicting (no joke) we always get full before our entrees so becareful with that lol. Their service is the best they always go above and beyond for hubby and I (vip stauts) never disappoints us. Most definitely a must try!
Be the first to ReplyGo early or wait in line! Come hungry and thirsty too.
Funky cave like dining room, but your not there for atmosphere. Order the shrimp fajita and you'll bring home leftovers!Always my favorite, service is friendly and attentive. Great place to fill up!

New Favorite Mexican restaurant in west LA!! The vibes are so authentic & the wait staff are super friendly. The food and drinks are so good and reasonably priced for the amount you get. There was no drink menu which was odd... so we had to ask the waiter the prices. Regular margarita was $11Jumbo margarita (20oz) was $14I got the super burrito with shrimp and it was massive and super yummy. Definitely will be getting it again. We also got the queso fundido which was tasty but greasy.. Overall the atmosphere was great and I will be coming back again in the (near) future.I would consider getting reservations because they had a 30 min wait at 5:30-6pm on a Saturday.FYI - There is no parking lot but there is paid street parking and it's free after 6pm.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent peach margarita.
Am voting only on that. An extremely vegetarian UNfriendly place, alas. I called in advance, and was told that the tortillas were made without lard, the enchilada sauce was made without chicken stock, and that the beans were made without lard. Upon arrival, the waiter (thank God!) informed us that the beans *were* made with lard, the enchilada red sauce was made with chicken stock, and the tortillas were made without lard...but were fried in lard to soften them. The vegetarians in our group had to leave and go elsewhere to eat. (The meat-eaters who stayed, however, said that the food was very good.)
Be the first to ReplyMuchas gracias, Don Antonio! I don't like Chile Rellenos.
Turns out I've only had bad ones til now. Great service, a little pricey but you get huge portions. Their two item combos, $16, are a great deal. The salsa is quite spicy but we were undaunted cuz their chips are fresh and light. You can always get a margarita, though they are weak. They were busy for dinner on a rainy night. My friends recommended here for happy hour but they no longer have that. They do have lunch specials until 3pm for $11.We celebrated a friend's birthday with a Mexican custard dessert that I didn't like but my friends did. The interior is dark but still welcoming with many cozy booths. We were stumped by most of the trivia questions on their napkins. The outdoor is festive and great for warmer nights. We found street parking easily. Interestingly it's right next to another Mexican place. Would come again for the service and convenient location.
Be the first to ReplyReally good food and awesome service.
One of the greatest spot for Mexican food. The food arrives looking really good and it taste as awesome as it looks. The nachos especials are so good! Must leave some space for the Xango dessert.

They have certainly stepped it up post-pandemic! Staff seems happy to be working. They are SUPER friendly and attentive. Food was good. Fajitas were the star of the night for sure. If you can hold off the appetizers and chips to leave more room for the food. Enjoy a blended margarita to round out the meal. Delicious!!!

Be the first to ReplyI wandered in and sat at the bar for lunch.
Super friendly bartenders. These guys hustle! Lots of different things going on and work to do but you are never off their radar. I ordered a few margaritas (my favorite drink in the world!). Delish! Loved their chips and salsa. The chips are homemade and are a thicker, flavorful chip, as opposed to the common thinner chip. I finished off with the chille relleno, so yummy! I will def be back!Since I was alone, I found a free meter (Sunday) for parking, though it was the only one I found and it was only 12 noon for lunch. I suggest trying them out!!

Old-school Mexican restaurant with lots of comfortable booths and cool vibes in a decorative darkly lit room. There's also a nice outdoor patio in the back. The food is good & consistent and they even have really good potato tacos for a vegan-friendly option. My go-to is the combo plate & tostadas, their prices are extremely reasonable and their tortilla chips are pretty pretty pretty darn good too - especially when served piping hot. The waiters, servers and bus staff are always friendly and like to keep the flow going with a nicely paced dining experience. I don't drink much but their Cadillac & ice blended margaritas are solid and hit the spot on warm summer nights. I've been coming here for over 30 years (wow I sound older than I am ;) and Don Antonio's never disappoints...and I try avoiding words like never.

I've been here several times now and my feeling is still the same. This is a great, casual, old-school Mexican place where you can just get that comfort food experience in a no nonsense atmosphere. The interior looks like it hasn't been updated for decades, but that's a good thing and it doesn't need to be updated. It adds to the atmosphere. The service is excellent, and the staff is plentiful and very friendly. The food is your old Mexican favorites from tacos and enchiladas to burritos and fajitas. Everything is tasty and so are the chips and salsa that are immediately placed at your table when you sit down.If you are looking for a casual Mexican spot that has the menu that you've seen for years, this is the place.
Be the first to ReplyCome from Boston and very picky about food.
The food here are s excellent. Great food and service. Will definitely be back!

Gave this restaurant another chance and went in during the week to get tacos and drinks. The tacos were the same as they've always been, nothing has changed from my visit 10 years ago so nothing new to Yelp about there. Two stars for the tacos. I ordered one chicken, and two potato tacos al a cart as well as a margarita. The wait staff was friendly enough however, I noticed something scammy after I got my credit card statement. I had paid with a credit card and left a cash tip so I drew a line through the tip area on the signed receipt. I also kept a copy of the exact same receipt to remind me of the transaction and good thing I did because the waiter WROTE IN AN ADDITIONAL TIP AND ADDED a $10.50 tip to the balance. I immediately called the credit card company to dispute the "add on" charge then called Don Antonio's and spoke to the manager letting him know of the dirty practice of one of his waiters. NOT COOL. Guaranteed he gets away with it on the regular and I'm not the first person he's tried to scam for extra money. Most people just sign the slip and leave, then likely wouldn't recall exactly what they spent. The loser who tried to steal my money has probably made a killing adding his own tip amount into the total. I ALWAYS keep my receipts until I see the matching charge on my statements. People are SHADY these days and although it wasn't much, if every dirtbag pulled the same thing every time I went out to eat, it would be significant. I can't stand people that steal, pisses me off. Look at your receipts when you pay with a cc at this place. Thieves work there and will gladly steal your money.

Nice looking place from the outside with a decent sized patio a bit disappointing once inside. Different chairs at every table we of course got the cheap plastic ones and wobbly table. Service was alright but food was some of the blandest Mexican I have ever had and my quesadilla had no cheese? Margaritas are pretty good but little watered down. Much better Mexican places in LA
Be the first to ReplyCute little Mexican restaurant on Pico.
The ambiance is cute and the fajita was sooo yummy. The service was a bit slow but it was also very busy there. Oh, the price is reasonable too. I only paid 30$ for a margarita and a huge plate of beef fajitas
Be the first to ReplyLately I've been eating a lot of authentic Mexican food.
I must be missing some home made comfort food that is zesty hot and delicious. Not to mention festive. I haven't come here in many many years and it's not too far away so when my friend felt like Mexican I remembered Don Antonio's. I was so happy with the festive warm greeting and service. All the way to the food! Delicious! I wish I had left overs for today but I ate it all! Must have been hungrier than I felt lol! There is valet parking but also meter street parking around. We went pretty late and they get super busy so I'd recommend calling first. We got lucky and were seated immediately.

This was a favorite place for me back when I lived in Los Angeles in the mid 90s. Yep, I am old folks. I ate here very often and loved it. I moved back to the Bay Area, and years later I saw this restaurant featured on The Hills - it was a place that Spencer and Heidi always went to for dinner! Yep, I watched that show folks! I'd recognize that cantina anywhere! It was fun to see it there on the show and I thought to myself some day I gotta go back ha ha!I was in Los Angeles recently for a week long business trip and stayed there for the weekend and of course this was on my list to go back to. I can't remember if it used to have a parking lot but nowadays there's no parking lot so it's all parking on the street which was a pain in the butt but hey that city life for you. When I was seated, I ordered the combination plate of a cheese enchilada and a crispy potato taco. The portions have definitely diminished, which makes me sad, but that's pretty par for the course everywhere now it seems. The taco is pretty small... I felt like I could eat it in two or three bites but it was very delicious. They definitely do great crispy tacos here and that is a must order if you come here. Just be prepared that they feel more like an appetizer LOL. The enchilada was good too and I love their sauce. ย Beans were delicious but the rice was kind of bland. I also love the chips and salsa. All in all I'm glad I came back, it was good and it was nostalgic for me, but the portion size seemed ย small for what I was paying for. However I do recommend them for their tasty food and ambience.
