Good grilling service, the sliced spring onion side dish is great along with the bbq. Nice presentation as well
Be the first to ReplyThis place was solid - great meat quality, service, banchan.
I'll definitely come back again with more friends.
Be the first to ReplyThis felt like a first class Korean bbq experience.
Someplace you take a significant other on a date or to celebrate a special occasion. The music was very soft and easy to hear your accompanying guests. I loved the fancy decor and the row of wine bottles wall. The first level doesn't seem as spacious but upstairs was wow. More room upstairs and the seating had its unique sowed cushions into the floor, kind of like a traditional Asian household. The food also was quite fancy to match with the decor of the restaurant. Since it was a party of 5 and for a birthday party, half of us wanted to do bbq and the other half wanted to stick with the basic korean dishes. I loved how richly marinated the galbi steak was and how ribbonly thin the bulgogi tasted. We also ordered the cold broth green tea summer noodles and the bibimbap. So big in portions. Apologies as I didn't get a good pic of the carb pictures because we did come hungry and went straight to munching business. If I need to impress my friends coming to NY to visit or if they need to impress a date that loves korean food, this would be my main choice. Service was very impressive and the spacing was enough to take the stresses away.
Be the first to ReplyGreat classy place to have great korean in NYC.
Restaurant is trendy, great service and has cool changing scenery background. Most importantly, amazing Korean food! :)
Be the first to ReplyI worked for this restaurant until COVID.
They still haven't payed me for the last 2 weeks that I worked there. They stole my time and money. I have been trying to get in contact with them for months. Even the manager, DINA CHUN, won't respond to any of my messages, emails, phone calls. THEY ARE STEALING FROM WORKING CLASS INDIVIDUALS.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a long overdue review.
I really didn't want to give this place a one star but what we experienced was just unbelievable. My boyfriend and I went in one night after the gym and had ordered 2 starters and 2 entrees. The restaurant was pretty empty with only 2 filled tables. The parties seem like they've been there for a while and was just chatting and drinking over empty plates. Our starters came and we were just chatting away while enjoying it. We might have been just sitting there for almost 40 minutes deep into our conversations and I realized our entree still hasn't come yet. A party came after us and their table was already filled with food and enjoying it. Just to paint the picture, there was a host, 3 busboys and about 4/5 waitresses. There was no reason why our entrees didn't come nor did anyone check in on us. We flagged down the host as we were sitting pretty close to the front and asked about our entrees. She quickly apologized and went to check the order on the monitor. I saw her confused expression. She then went straight to our waitress. It turns out, our entree order was never put in! Our waitress then came to apologize and said our food will be right out. At that point, we were already pretty over it. We told them we'll just take the check and leave. We waited for another 10 min but the check never came. We decided to go up to the front and pay instead. The host then tells us the bill is on the house and apologized again. Yes, it was a nice gesture and accommodation, but why didn't anyone just come tell us?? The restaurant was not busy so there really shouldn't be a reason why our order wasn't put in. I completely understand if there was a mix up in the order of it was busy but it was empty! Overall, a pretty unforgettable bad experience at a restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyWe thought we would avoid the lines at our favorite NYC
We thought we would avoid the lines at our favorite NYC Korean BBQ Jongro and try out Dons Bogam, where tables always seem to be available. Turns out the market is efficient. Dons Bogam has higher prices, decent (but not special) cuts of beef, and painfully inexperienced and over-stretched servers. They mostly tried to fix the mistakes they made along the way (e.g. after asking us how we wanted our beef cooked -medium rare- and then cooking it until it was clearly welldone). If you like to drink wine, they do offer corkage, which is nice, but I won't go into the detail of how they botched that. Our advice: either suck it up and wait for a better quality bbq restaurant, plan ahead and make a reservation at Cote, or else eat something different - Mandoo Bar is excellent for example.

I'd give it an overall rating of Eh! Not so terrible, not so good. Obviously going for an upscale, but missed the mark on a few fronts. It's a huge space but not too loud, although that may have been due to it only being half full, even though was a Saturday night. The tables have an induction heater in the center that made no sense. It created an awkward surface for appetizers and took up room for no reason. If the food is sitting on the table long enough to get cold, maybe it's because no one wants to eat it. When it's time to grill, they roll out a huge electric grill that sits alongside the table, I guess because they want to create a suburban backyard ambiance? It really makes what could be an attractive space look trashy with this equipment plugged in all over the place. There is even a penned off area in the restaurant housing all of these grills, like sort of an open garage. After all of that big production with the induction heater on the table and rolling grill plugged in next to it, there were in fact a delicious short ribs. Also, the kimchee and shredded scallions were good. Everything else fell short of the mark, including the lackluster bonchon. (The daikon was so soggy and flavorless it could have been canned sprouts, but it wasn't.) No rice. Tea after a few requests. Service was a C+, inept but trying. Frankly, it must be hard waiting tables in a restaurant where food takes a second place to equipment. Nice lighted photo mural, though. And I'm guessing you'll never need a reservation or have to wait in line. So there's that.
Be the first to ReplyThe kbbq was pretty good, and the restaurant is quite
The kbbq was pretty good, and the restaurant is quite spacious. What bothers me is the price though-it surmounted to 80 dollars per person for the beef platter and some other side dishes. The interesting thing about this place is that there is no grill on the table, it's on a rolling platform. The servers grill for you, and then they take away the grill, thus eliminating the smoke and whatnot. To be honest, the flavors weren't mindblowing; I was sort of disappointed. The scallion in the seafood pancake was way too big-they didn't even chop them to smaller sizes. The one dish that did stand out would have to be their marinated beef short ribs, which were extremely tender and soft.
Be the first to ReplyWas here for a late night work dinner.
The restaurant is massive so it wasn't hard getting a table for 7 on a Wednesday night. We ordered a variety of grilled meat and also some jap chae (korean glass noodles) as well. All were very enjoyable. Service was quite good as well but the restaurant was also half empty.
Be the first to ReplySolid place for Korean BBQ away from the not-too-distant
Solid place for Korean BBQ away from the not-too-distant Korea Way. Refined, spacious setting with LED screen lined along the walls. The menu offers typical dishes you'd see at a Korean BBQ joint. We kept it simple for a late dinner and ordered the mushroom scallion pancake, steamed dumplings, galbi bibimbap, and a bunch of meats (marinated) that were grilled table-side by our server. Loved everything, especially the purple rice. Service was attentive and professional; we could hear our conversation; and we didn't walk out smelling like grill smoke. There's a nice bar by the front area that looks like an ideal spot for drinks.

I would give this place 5 stars if they let you grill on your table. They grill the meat in a side cart. But the meat is one of the best. Apart from the food, the best part is the huge open space (for New York) and it never gets too loud. Service is also top notch.

I booked a birthday dinner here for my gf because she loves Dons Bogam and this restaurant looked slightly more upscale. Unfortunately our dining experience was really subpar. I booked online so there was no wait. We were actually running a bit late and they were very accommodating about it. The restaurant was also fairly empty most of the night. We ate on a Tuesday night. Don's Bogam Black has a very nice interior and good service but those were probably the two best things about our meal. We ordered seafood pajeon, and the prime marinated beef platter for two. Banchan was good quality but very mediocre in taste. Meat also looked like it was way better quality than it actually tasted. Each cut was kind of bland so that was disappointing. The servers cook the meat on a portable grill next to your actual table and then transfer it to a hot plate on your table. Overall, the meal was quite expensive and I can't justify the cost. I personally feel like there are better cheaper options in ktown. Would skip and goto the regular don's bogam.
