I had a birthday cake donut and a triple chocolate donut, both were amazing! Chocolate based donuts sell out quickly first thing in the morning based on the two visits I had during my Chicago trip. Employee Julio is the best!

Definitely my favorite doughnut place in the city! Used to be even better when they did a happy hour an hour before closing (half off all remaining doughnuts), but alas, seems like that's gone for good. The doughnuts are delicious, hefty (especially the yeasted ones), and freshly made. I love checking the specials on their website to see what flavors there are for the day. My favorites are the Boston creme pie, pistachio lemon, and chocolate yeasted. The staff are always very friendly, too. Highly recommend checking their site for the specials and to check if the flavors you want are still available! They sell out fast sometimes. You can also place an order in advance! One thing to note is that they unfortunately do not have espresso drinks, but you can get a pretty tasty non-espresso coffee. This place is also teeny and very easy to miss- just look for the blue wall on the other side of Gilt Bar.

barely a line which we were delightfully surprised at! BEST DONUTS EVER. better than do-rite hands down. They do their sugar glaze so perfectly that it's a delicate crust you get to bite through and doesn't taste like manufactured Walmart sugar frosting like how some donut frostings can emulate. Do-rite had more creative flavors but doughnut vault is better at execution. Make sure to get both cake and yeast doughnut varieties!! You can literally see the specks of vanilla bean in the glaze of the yeast and it's the fluffiest, pillowy-est texture. It's hugeee and I've always been more of a cake doughnut fan but the yeast one became my top two favorites. One con is that a lot of the cake donuts tend to blend together. Like the champagne, coconut(we tried a on a previous day), and buttermilk were almost indistinguishable. I petition to add more champagne because it smelled really good but I couldn't taste it at all. Our ranking of the donuts: 1. Buttermilk - champagne - coconut (tied because they taste very similar LOL) (10/10) 2. Yeast vanilla bean (9.5/10) 3. Pistachio (8/10) - sorta almondy actually They were all so close it was hard to decide! Wish we could try the lemon poppyseed and the almond but let me know your thoughts if you're one of my friends and get to try them

Really tasty doughnuts! We got a box for breakfast and they were delicious. I would come back another time!
Be the first to ReplyDon't walk, run here! The service was amazing.
He was so friendly and knows how to carry a conversation. The vault is a comfy, quaint shop that provides a heating space when coming in from the cold, I love that. The donuts are soft and so tasty. Very affordable for these huge donuts. Thank you, for the memorable service.

What amazing cool location- small and exactly what it is meant To be- a doughnut in a vault. The doughnuts were amazing. We went back 2 days in a row. The pistachio doughnut knocked my socks off! The donut holes were light and fluffy. Amazing amazing!!! They got it right.
Be the first to ReplyProbably my favorite donut shop in Chicago.
I would recommend going early if on weekend. They do run out. The hall way is really nice but small. There's no inside seating.
Be the first to ReplyThey make great doughnuts.
Quick grab and go which was very convenient. The cashier was very friendly and even gave me some recommendations. Definitely would recommend them if you need your doughnut fix.
Be the first to ReplyProbably one of the best donuts I've had.
Both the donuts we got were beautiful and airy. The yeast-raised dough used for the jam-filled and donut holes made the donuts light and too easy to eat. The buttermilk donut was surprisingly light - I am used to dense old fashioned donuts but this did not feel like a brick. The donut holes were classic and easy to eat. Washed it all down with a hot coffee. Two orders of donut holes, an old-fashioned donut, a jam-filled donut, and one coffee for $14 - very, very reasonable. Came at 7:30 AM when they opened but I would definitely comeback again.

This cute little secret is a fav for us whenever we visit Chicago fam. We were worried it wouldn't live up to the hype, but it is. Brave the Chicago wind to stand in line for when they open for the best selection. The staff are friendly and so nice, and it's a cute little hidden treasure in downtown Chicago. My kids have consistently loved the donut holes. The special raspberry crumble was a perfect combination of tart, sweet, and soft.

..however it's spelled! I am not a huge fan of donuts but my daughters are, so we decided to try and I now am a fan of donuts! Their old fashioned donuts are so flavorful and melt in your mouth. I love the almond and pistachio but honestly, every flavor or kind is worth a try.
Be the first to ReplyGet yourself a ginger stack!! Three delicious donuts.
I also got the Chai donut (Thursdays) and it was AMAZING! Great texture. Great flavor. Friendly staff at the register. Check their website for their daily specials. The inside is quite small so you might have to wait outside.I'm told they have 1/2 priced on any donuts left from 12-1PM.

Best doughnuts in Chicago, hands down! Never been disappointed here. Their regular doughnuts are a safe choice, but all of the specials are something amazing. Personal favorites include the birthday cake, PB&J filled, and chestnut glazed (hope they bring it back some day!!)

Service was super great and friendly and she explained every single doughnut to us and we decided to get one of each everything on the menu and 2 coffees as well. The doughnuts are amazing I will be going back again new customer here for sure and I've already told a few ppl about this location.

One of my favorite shops in the city for an old fashion donut (my favorites are the pistachio and almond). Large donuts, not dry, and so so good! This place can be tricky to spot as it really is a vault in the wall. Look for the big blue encasing outside the door. The space inside is also very tight so definitely a grab-and-go spot. Love how lowkey it is!
Be the first to ReplyA cute hidden gem.
Chicago has a ton of donut shops, but this one is my favorite (and very affordable compared to Stan's). The donut vault is tiny and literally a hole in the wall with a counter only for ordering. They open until they sell out, which is pretty early on some days! Get the gingerbread stack - it's basically a good mix of an old-fashioned donut and an apple cider donut. If they have the lemon poppyseed donut also try that, it was my favorite!

These are the best! Must have a French pastry chef making these. You have to early as will be sold out. There is always a line but it goes fast and worth the wait. My favorite is old fashioned.
Be the first to ReplyThe service was super quick and extremely friendly.
Let them know it was our first time and my birthday threw in the birthday cake donut it was delicious! The donuts each and everyone were perfect! Can't wait to hit this up again with our friends in March!
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely and pickup and go place.
Cool a little space you can order in, feels like you're in an old Roman bathhouse...but shrink to only fit 2 people in it total...and no baths. This place is known for their old fashions and dare I say, I think they're the best in Chicago. The lemon poppy has that tartness and the sweetness you're looking for. These doughnuts are good and the daily specialty always keep things interesting. This is a doughnut place to try if in downtown. Also note, they do 50% off any remaining doughnuts between 12pm and 1pm(when they close), but by then most of the good stuff is gone. Be forewarned.
Be the first to ReplyThe very best donuts in the city! Love this place.
Wish they had a few more around the city!
Be the first to ReplyTried almost the full selection.
Tried the classic buttermilk, pistachio, lemon poppy, and special (horchata) old fashioned. They all had a great texture with just the right crispness in the outside and softness on the inside. The classic buttermilk was a little bland for my taste, but the horchata was perfect. Light cinnamon spice. Lemon poppy was strong lemon but light in poppy and pistachio was pretty good but tastes like artificial pistachio flavors.Of the cake style donuts, the gingerbread stack was phenomenal. So moist and soft, with just the right chew and flavoring. And a good deal to get 3 for that price! Didn't love the donut holes or the birthday cake - just a standard donut with vanilla icing and sprinkles, doesn't hold up to the old fashioned.Get here early and get the old fashioned and gingerbread stack. When they're good, they're really good

Now that traveling is opening up, I'm making a goal to visit local doughnut shops in the cities I visit on business travel. This place doesn't disappoint. I had the old fashioned and a chocolate covered doughnut - both delicious but being preferential to cake doughnuts the old fashioned was perfect - slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with the right amount of sweetness - not too much glaze. Worth the walk and wait to be there when they opened at 7:30. The entrance is tucked away around the corner of the building and there was already a line (it went fast). Selections are somewhat limited and there wasn't any indoor seating but there were table outside to sit and enjoy my coffee and doughnut. Definitely worth the walk!
