Dune Nantucket Reviews from The Last Year
My fiancé and I have loved this place since our very first
My fiancé and I have loved this place since our very first date. We have had many mouth watering meals and fabulous cocktails here over the years and have never left disappointed. Even with the restaurant bursting with people we still feel taken care of and like our business is very important to them. All staff are friendly and attentive. our favorite restaurant on Nantucket.
Great food, ambiance a little quirky.
We went this past October on a long weekend trip. First off -- food is amazing. I would go back for that. I love beets and mozzarella, and those appetizers were a treat. Then it got interesting. As we waited for our entrees, we started to notice that the upstairs where we were seated was much quieter than the downstairs. The wait also gave us an opportunity to experience the Euro-techno music that they were oddly churning into the room at low volume. They say worry is the enemy of patience, so we remained calm and our dinners finally arrived after a long pause. Our theory -- they forgot! In their defense, the salmon was excellent, and they comped us a dessert. Will return but perhaps sit downstairs next time.
Seated in the ice box
This review is for our Christmas Stroll 2023 experience. We don't dine out much in the summer because we might have an experience like this one. I had made a Stroll Saturday reservation as early as I could because we were inviting another couple to be our house guests for Stroll weekend, and I wanted to guarantee an elegant dinner. Our friends could not join us that weekend, so I changed the number of the reservation from 4 to 2. This was still a month before Stroll, and using the reservation platform, making a reservation for 2 people was not a problem. First, I don't know how anyone who works in this restaurant still has their hearing. At the podium, across from the bar, it was very, very loud. And, though I realize that a nicer table than we had would have exposed us to the noise, it is hard to imagine a worse location than what was billed as "the patio." I think that "the garage" would be a more apt name for the space. Clearly, the hostess was used to having to calm the fears of the diners she was leading outside. because she assured us that the space was decorated like a "winter wonderland" and was very warm. Obviously, she did not notice that all the diners out there were eating while wearing their winter coats. This space probably could have been turned into a charming space, but it would have taken more than a few baubles hanging from the ceiling and heaters that weren't really doing much. The experience reminded me of a home wedding where the garage had to be used for overflow and was reserved for the relatives you had to invite but couldn't stand. On the (very) positive side, both food and service were great, and I would definitely go there again during a less busy time of year. Since no one responds to any of the comments here, I doubt that my suggestions will be read, never mind taken; however, I would suggest identifying patio seating on the reservation platform if it is to be used for guests who are reserving a table. Other Nantucket restaurants do that, so prospective diners are forewarned about the lack of availability inside the actual restaurant. For a weekend like Stroll, the space could also be used exclusively for walk-ins. People without reservations would be grateful to be fed anywhere on this weekend, and the number of dinners sold might actually be the same. Other reviewers have complained about being seated inside between the air conditioner and the stairwell. Why use that table at all? Or again, it could be used for walk-ins, and prospective diners could be told that that undesirable table was all that was available so they'd know in advance what they were letting themselves in for. In the end, I was glad that our friends had not joined us for the weekend; I would have been mortified to have been responsible for exposing them to this experience.
A family favorite for many years now, the new owners have
A family favorite for many years now, the new owners have carried on the old traditions with additions of their own, increasing the overall experience! The menu accommodates all, the food is top quality, the staff friendly and conscientious. The Best Cocktails! Always a treat, definitely a place to visit when family and friends are in town, and you want a great dining spot on Da Beach!
Great dinner experience
One of the best meals we had in Nantucket. Great service and food. The setting is wonderful. Don't miss this experience!
It's hard to get a good read sitting in the covered patio.
The food was good, the service was fine- not too charming, just neutral, so I don't know if it's worth the price point.
Restaurant week enjoyed crab corn chowder and halibut sat
Restaurant week enjoyed crab corn chowder and halibut sat upstairs in booth . Cool place!
Disappointing
Our one disappointment of all the restaurants we visited during our week in Nantucket. First, it was really loud in there. Couldn't have a conversation without almost yelling. We were there during "Restaurant Week" and most restaurants, as did Dune, had a Price Fix dinner menu. They also offered an a la carte menu. I wanted the scallops but I was told by the server "no scallops". He didn't explain beyond that and I could see the woman seated next to me had scallops. There was absolutely nothing else on the menu I wanted. It was really kind of a boring and disappointing menu. I ordered the beets and really did enjoy them. And I ordered Calamari. Which I also thought was very tasty. My husband did not like his choices. Our server was pretty disinterested and not very helpful or friendly which also colored our experience. We were given the cake for dessert which came with the Price Fix menu (though my husband and I both ordered a la carte. It wasn't that great. Too bad.

we didn't enjoy any of the many dishes we ordered, unfortunately :/ really wish I could say otherwise for a $250 dinner. plus my wine was bad - as in spoiled! probably would skip this one next time.
sat at the bar.
drinks were 1.5oz measured and some spilled out when poured so you get even less. wine was half what you get normally. don't come here if you want a real drink.
Disappointing
We didn't love the atmosphere of the room - tables quite close together along the wall and just a plain room. The server asked us to order our main course when we ordered our appetizers, but we hadn't even looked yet. We ordered a bottle of wine and a couple first courses; she insisted we order our main course, again, and we told her we weren't ready to order dinner - she then proceeded to tell us the kitchen prefers us to order everything together and was snarky when I said I prefer not to do that. We didn't like that our bottle of wine was not on or next to our table, so we couldn't refill our glasses and had to wait for the server. The food was good, except for the calamari - we only had a couple bites of it, but the server didn't ask nor comment on why it was not eaten (maybe she knew).
My favorite restaurant in Nantucket
No matter what, I always have to go to Dune when I’m in Nantucket. It never disappoints!! Seriously it’s my #1 favorite restaurant on the island (which is full of great restaurants). The menu is always seasonal, inventive and most of all, delicious! Kudos to the talented chef and gracious staff.
Great service and food.
Ambiance was above average. We had a terrific French white wine!
Great dinner!
Great dinner experience. We went very early in the evening and enjoyed a nice meal of the east coast halibut, grilled Atlantic swordfish and shared a starter of calamari. Service was excellent.

We live for the summers on Nantucket and Dune ! We have dined at all of the fine dining establishments on the island and Dune is our favorite. Last night we ordered the Swordfish and the Scallops as mains. Delicious. Kudos to the chef and wait staff.
Never again
The singular worst experience we had on Nantucket. Ordered wine when dinner delivered. Waited 20 minutes for it to arrive. Entree cold by then. When told waitress about this her only response was “oh well, sorry “Saw waitress rarely. Room was upstairs. Careful! Apparently that’s a sign that you’ve been shunned. The room was virtually empty. We were stuck between air conditioning unit and back stairway as well as a family playing crazy eights at the next table.Food excellent but not worth the otherwise horrible experience. A sorry excuse for a pricey restaurant.
Never again
The singular worst experience on Nantucket. Seated upstairs. Beware! This is the first sign that you’ve been shunned. We had a table between the air conditioning unit and the back stairway. We were right next to a family playing crazy eights. Ordered wine when the entrée was delivered. Waited over 20 minutes for it. When it arrived the dish was cold. Mentioned this to the waitress who’s only response was “oh well, sorry about that.” The food was spectacular as well as the Water boy. Neither worth the otherwise horrible experience. There is nothing else worth mentioning. Clearly, will never return there.
Excellent and warm service.
Halibut was the best preparation of this fish that I've ever eaten. Romantic atmosphere that was quiet enough for dinner table conversation.
A fine restaurant but...
Excellent scallops and halibut + 2 pavlovas, no wine, only two beers and a bill in excess of $200. Definitely excessive for 2, especially so for a very noisy place and service staff not in line with what is generally expected in a fine restaurant.
Expensive but good
Very interesting menu. The food was all very fresh and well prepared. Very high end restaurant with a lovely presentation. Tasty cocktails as well.
