El Cortez Hotel and Casino Never Ever
Horrible. Horrible. Horrible!! I booked this hotel because they said there was an airport shuttle. I was only in town for a 10 hour layover getting in at 10pm. I called. No shuttle from airport only to airport. Shuttle start at 7 am. I had to be back by 6am so I had to Uber both ways for $65. I get to the El Cortez and I'm hit by the overwhelming smell of cigarettes and over the top air freshener which was nauseating. The desk clerk was busy so I waited about 7 minutes. She then came and sat down and made my room arrangements. I walked out of the casino and across the street to the cabanas. Cute place on the inside with a nice security guard outside and another desk clerk inside. I opened the door to my room and saw the bed unmade and the room dirty. I went down to the clerk and told her. She attempted to make me keys for another room and that didn't work. She then called the casino clerk and proceeded to have a 15 minute conversation about why rooms weren't clean and why her key machine didn't work, etc. Then I was told to walk back over to the casino for new keys. As soon as I walk up the clerk answers the phone and has a 10 minute conversation. She then sits down again and makes me new room keys. I walk back across the street again and try my room. The keys don't work. I go to the desk clerk and tell her. She wants to know what kind of flashing yellow lights I'm getting. Now I'm ticked. She trys to make me keys again with no luck. She calls the casino again for new keys and says the janitor will bring them over. So an hour later I finally get into a room. Small but perfect for my needs. I just want to sleep. I pull back the blankets and there is a lipstick smudge on the sheets. I couldn't deal with them again. I slept in my clothes on the other side of the bed. It was gross. They also advertise for $39 a night then add the hotel tax when you get there which makes it $75. Don't ever stay here.

I was in Las Vegas for business and decided to extend my trip through the weekend. Vegas hotel prices get crazy on Friday and Saturday! I booked a โPetite Queen,โ and it was pretty much perfect for my needs, and the price was the best I could find on a Friday for decent accommodations. Pros: Quiet, comfortable, good location, priced well, vouchers given for free play / free drink / money off dining options. Mostly clean* Cons: The shower stall was kind of gross. The tiles and grout really needed a good scrubbing. The room is small, but I knew it before booking, and it was fine for me. George tried extra hard to let me check in early, but nothing was available. They stored my suitcase. Yes, there are some homeless people around, but theyโre everywhere in Vegas (and lots of other places.) I bought a coffee from the nearby 7-11 and put it in the fridge the night before, so I didnโt have to pay $4.75 and cross the street for one in the morning. I donโt need velvet sofas and abalone-edged mirrors, so this will very likely be my go-to place next time I visit.
Be the first to ReplyThe Cabana Suites are 1 of 4 DIFFERENT types of rooms at the El Cortez...so do your research!
First of all the Cabana Suites are the only ones that should be reviewed under THIS particular TripAdvisor listing ("El Cortez Cabana Suites"). For the Vintage, Pavilion, and Tower Rooms, look under the "El Cortez Hotel & Casino" TripAdvisor listing. First of all, the Cabana Suites are wonderful but a little different. They're actually located in a separate building, across the Street from the main hotel/casino. The Cabana Suites occupy the newest building in the El Cortez family (built in mid 2000s). The rooms look exactly like they do in the pictures (lots of lime green, white, and black). Please note all the Cabana Suites have only a King or Queen bed (in other words, every room has only one bed). Rooms are clean and have a fridge and safe. Please note, you check in at the main hotel, but there is also a staffer at the front desk of the Cabana Suites. Almost all rooms in the Cabana Suites are 400 sq. ft., but be careful, as a handful are only 200 sq. ft. Be sure you're getting a 400 sq. ft. room when you book. Rates get REALLY LOW a couple weeks before a prospective stay on both the main El Cortez Hotel & Casino website and on Expedia. Rates will drop up to 50% in those last couple of weeks, so spend a little time online and save yourself money to gamble in the casino!
Be the first to ReplyOK for Fremont Street Access
I've stayed here before pre-pandemic so I know the hotel and the suites. Sadly, both have changed. First the good. The security staff were friendly. Had a nice conversation with the guard in the lobby of the Cabana Suites more than once. Parking is convenient. Cabana Suites are rather quiet and far enough away from Fremont and bars to drown out the noise. Now the bad. They started a new stupid process of issuing risk bands to guest under the premise of controlling the homeless. WHAT? I refused the armband, immediately cut it off, and just showing it when I need to access the building. I was in town for business not pleasure so having an armband like I was at the all inclusive resort is not conducive to business. Rooms are showing age. No desk chair to work at. They give you a round soft cushion to sit on. One heating unit was broke and they could not fix it nor would they move me. Shower, while huge, had the worst water temperature was impossible to control. Sink leaked water. Beds are made with straight sheets so they fall off midway through the evening. While the rooms are quaint and unique, i will not stay here again. Managements decision to implement such a lazy policy as wristbands tells me all I need to know about the hotel.

Gave this place a shot after hearing the cabana suites were nice (pre pandemic). They are no longer nice. The room was filthy. Sheets had black smudges on them as though they were stepped on and the carpet was not clean. We arrived after midnight so we had no choice but to sleep there the first night of our 3 day stay. After letting the front desk know how bad the room was and that we were moving to another hotel, I was assured that we would only be charged for the first night. Upon returning home, I found that I was charged for all 3 nights and the 3 people at the front desk not only put no notes on the account, they did not check us out and I was given the business card of someone who hadn't worked there in a year. Now we are having to do a security check, apparently to prove that we stopped accessing the room, in order to get the second 2 nights refunded to me. The El Cortez is fine for gambling but there are better places to stay downtown.
Be the first to ReplyInexpensive place to stay thats different.
I wanted to try out the El Cortez Cabana Suites as they were reasonably priced and I just wanted to try something different. checkin was easy, everyone was super nice. Its nice that they give you a little coupon book with lots of offers like free slot play and free food credit and free bottle of wine. Some nice little touches. The room was nice. No real view or anything, and the room stunk of cigarettes. I didnt mind the smell I was more worried about getting a charge to the room for it. I made sure to tell the front desk about it. I also got stuck on the elevators but they were super quick to respond and get it working again. I give them props for that. Overall it was an enjoyable stay.

If you're looking to save money. This is the place for you! The Jr. Cabana Suite did not meet my expectations and it didn't help to see a roach in my room. There was also loud music playing most of the night. Room service was to come and change sheets but failed to do so.

We decided to stay at the Cabana Suites to be close to Fremont Street but away from the noise. We checked in late afternoon on a Saturday and was given room 2401. The worst room of the entire place! It is directly over the lobby with the elevator and stairs right outside the door. Besides hearing that noise all night, people crossing the street right outside your window, laughing and talking was very disrupting. The wooden blinds are a nice decorative touch but they don't do much to keep the street light at the cross walk from shining in you room. After a night without much sleep, we went to the main casino check in desk to asked for a room change. We were told to come back at noon. At noon, we went back and asked to be moved to the back side of the building away from the street. We were told that there were no rooms available. They moved us to room a room on the 4th floor and at the other end of the building. It was quieter with very little traffic noise at night. Both rooms we were in were very clean. The bathrooms could use some more light but the showers were nice and hot. Later that day, we were talking to another front desk worker and told them of the problem we had. They told us that the back rooms were available and they didn't know why they wouldn't let us move there. So, we were lied to for some reason. It would only cost a $1.00 more per day to be moved to that side. That is the biggest complaint that we had. We also learned that you can do about anything at the help desk in the Cabana Suites. We told them that we requested a back room when we booked it. They said they do not see those requests. They said you have to call them and they will put it on your reservation with the casino. We would stay here again as long as we got a quiet room.
