Such a back home feeling it was for me.
Old school ambiance with a historical feel. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for some peace and quiet. Amazing how the hotel was almost full but I felt like it was just me and the staff. You really get a he'd and breakfast feel when you stay here. Wonder place

As always, the best place to stay in the Southbay Chula Vista community! I have been coming here for years and will continue. It is a family-oriented hotel that makes you feel like family immediately upon arrival. The owners are very much a part of day to day activities and always have a smile. They are very open and receptive to all of your needs. Once you stay here a few times, El Primero becomes your home away from home! Also, centrally located to downtown Chula Vista and a lot of great restaurants and bars within walking distance. Enjoy and embrace your time at this treasure. Dr. Velasquez

I stayed 2 nights and enjoyed the hospitality of the hostess. It's a family-run business; small, very clean and near many restaurants. It's very affordable and very basic, but I was surprised by the fluffy, white towels. It was very close to the place I was going for the weekend, so it was perfect for my quick stay.

Warm friendly staff, quiet location (but good eats within a block or two), and Comfy beds. Good size rooms. No Breakfast. We enjoyed 'Mmm Cake' for brunch. and great live at 'Lime in the coconut'. Have fun!

This was a charming, clean, hotel family run hotel in a great location. I loved the history of the hotel and the room names. We stayed in the Del Coronado room for two nights and we will happily return to this hotel on our next visit to Chula Vista.

Old hotel with small rooms. Decent and clean. Quiet area near few shops and restaurants.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent cute non-chain hotel .
. perfect location , clean, accommodations for the handicap room. My 92yr. old grandmother was well taken care of with the offered accommodations for her like a shower chair and commode were made available to us. Highly recommend and the customer service was A+. Definitely stay here again.

Creeky floors and tub. Hard beds caused me to have backache. No hot water but only Luke warm from shower. No faucet hot water as nothing came out of the left knob. Remote for TV don't work. Need new light bulb. Nicest folks as my heart ache writing this truthful review. Location is awesome 1 block from downtown 3rd street restaurants

Outstanding customer Service! This boutique hotel is family owned and the energy welcoming, relaxing and comforting. I also like a baby and it was difficult to get out of bed because it was so comfortable. I recommend you stay for a weekend or week, it's absolutely worth the stay.
Be the first to ReplyMy son and I spent 3 nights here.
The room was a little small and old school, but it was very clean. The staff was top tier. I could not have been more happy with this place. I can say that any future trips to the area will be to the same hotel. Thank you so very much for everything!!

My husband and I stayed at the El Primero Hotel for just one night. Unfortunately it was just one night. This is one of the historical Hotels were we instantly feel at home. We were greeted with a warm welcome and a friendly reminder that our comfort is their highest priority. And it really was. The Room was tastefully furnished, the bed was heavenly comfortable and the overall cleanliness was just unbeatable. This Hotel will definitiv be our first stop the next time we are in San Diego. I give it ‼

My dad recently moved to the Senior Living Community at Fredericka Manor. El Primero's location (and price) were great for an extended stay. Just down the road from Dad, we could explore the cute neighborhood of downtown Chula Vista, but also have easy access to CA State Route 54 and I-805. Living out of state, and planning to visit more often, it is nice to know I have a second place to call "home" when I am in Chula Vista. The owner, Karen, was incredibly friendly. This kind of warmth doesn't happen at hotel/motel chains. I am looking forward to my next stay at the historic boutique hotel.
Be the first to ReplySweet historical hotel run by a local family.
Wish they still served breakfast. Lost some of its charm and community feel since they stopped serving breakfast. Decent prices. Not as quiet as it used to be though. Probably won't return

Me and my hubby stayed there and I loved the fact it was a vintage hotel with a lot of history. It's close to a lot of restaurants and bars. We stayed there cause we were flying out early in the morning. Room was very clean and comfortable. Receptionist was very nice and very helpful. I'm definitely going back and I recommend it.

A staple of downtown Chula Vista, this hotel is a must! A family owned location, we had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners. She walked us to our room and even gave us a quick rundown about the history of the hotel and the importance of what each room represented! This place is cute, chic and has amazing customer service. Would definitely consider booking here again. Thank you!

inn keepers are super awesome, friendly, personable, warm, like I actually wanted to stay at the hotel and kick it with them. But I never saw them they're like always on call and just around the corner, but never "there". So the hotel will seem unmanned at first glance.Pros: Housekeeping is awesome. Really does a great job turning over and cleaning room/bath.Dedicated large parking lot for your rental car and its free parking.Proximal location to some good food.Old building is cute, clean.Cons: Heater is manual. Not automatic thermostat. So you have to get up and turn it on. Then get up and turn it off. Otherwise fan blows nonstop. Just inconvenient.Shower head is shoulder height and doesn't swivel up, so I'm literally kneeling in shower to rinse my head. Did they install this for people 3 feet tall? Internet cuts out and seemed slow so I often just turned it off and used cell data. Not sure if this would have been an issue if I needed a laptop and email and was doing work in the room.Walls a bit thin but not insanely thin.Crack heads across street like to yell at the demons in the alley behind 7-11 across the street, but they turn in around 3am and keep to themselves. Think its like the same 2-3 homeless dudes. And well, crackheads are just part and parcel for CA so what you gonna do? But they stay away from the hotel.Lack of counters/ledges to put phone and trinkets in bathroom.Need your room keycard to open front door of hotel. is annoying because I have to free up a hand when carrying stuff. but its an added layer of security.I'd stay here again. Mostly just noting the inconveniences for myself for future reference.

A beautiful, historical art deco hotel with clean modern rooms, comfortable beds, and nice bathrooms. Interesting photos of old Chula Vista hang in the hallways. The neighborhood is safe, and the hotel is ideally located at the beginning of the Third Street commercial district with good shops and restaurants. The hotel is managed by a mother and her two daughters who are very lovely and helpful, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and at home. A perfect hotel for a reasonable price.
Be the first to ReplyVery nice restored hotel.
The owner greeted me, checked me in and showed me to my room. Clean, good bed, and a nice vibe. My only critique is that the age adds a bit of a musty smell...not sure there is anyway to change that in a place nearly 100 years old.Nice cup of bold coffee to say "so long" in the morning. Thank you to Sol.
Be the first to ReplyCute, boutique hotel at a reasonable price.
My husband and I stayed here for a wedding in October. Rooms were quaint, very vintage. The rooms were clean. Bathrooms were a bit small to the point where the door was hard to close in our room, but overall decent for the price.

An oasis of tranquility and charm! Big spacious rooms, VERY quiet, clean and VERY friendly! The owner Sol Roque made me feel welcome from the first hello. I cannot remember when was the last time I met the actual owner of a hotel working the front desk. Do you? The only regret I have is that I booked thru Hotel . com for which every hotel pays a hefty fee, and this being a family-owned business, I would've rather book directly. I will definitely come back!
Be the first to ReplyFirst of all, long weekends in San Diego are my favorite
First of all, long weekends in San Diego are my favorite thing to do with my husband. We have stayed at numerous hotels over the years....ho hum. I stumbled across the El Primero because we were attending a concert in Chula Vista last weekend....we will NEVER stay anyone else again! Karen and Katie and their momma indeed made us feel like family. They were so incredibly kind and helpful and knowledable of the area, I felt like we had known them for years. Legitimate customer service is unmatched here. :)The hotel itself is cozy and bright, with an amazing vintage feel. The furniture in the lobby and the photographs on the walls lent a true bed and breakfast vibe....loved it! We were fortunate to get the El Coronado room....spacious and bright with a great view of the charming courtyard below. The room was super comfortable with zero complaints. The courtyard is a wonderful spot to just sit and chill....the beautiful native plants that fill the space add to the beauty and you don't feel like you're on a busy street in Chula Vista for a single second! I would recommend this hotel a thousand percent if you are visiting San Diego! We truly will never stay anywhere but the El Primero again.
