We were lucky enough to enjoy a meal at the Elote Cafe, and it was absolutely perfect. For drinks we had a limeade (me, driving) and a blackberry margarita. We ordered three appetizers - the elote, corn crusted scallops, and the chorizo verde queso fundido. All were exceptional. For the main course, we shared the smoked brisket enchiladas. For desert, we shared the flan. Omar, our waiter, was very friendly, and very helpful with our choices. We asked about the chef and he told us that the chef (Jeff Smedstad) is there every day and really works hard at his craft. The admiration is really sweet and genuine. The rest of the staff were also very friendly, and very kind to us. We also loved the decor, the blankets if you were cold, the floors, the walls, the music. Everything. Thank you Elote Cafe for making our stay in Sedona so special. It's a meal we will never forget.

On the smaller intimate side w a good feel and look. The famous blood orange margaritas did not disappoint ever! Food and service were outstanding and well worth the value. The elote is outstanding! Reservations are a must plan well ahead!

Dined here Tuesday night with my wife and son who was visiting from New York. Everything was perfect. Our waiter, Omar did a great job explaining the dishes and went about his job very efficiently. First came complimentary crisp delicious chips and salsa. Next we tried the signature elote which was definitely as good as advertised. My wife ordered the lamb adobo which is a huge lamb shank cooked in a rich wonderful sauce. I tried the pork cheeks which is smoked for hours and also came atop a corn cake which I had never tasted before. My dinner was terrific. Our son, who was quite excited about finally getting to dine here, loved his shrimp dish. The dinners were more than ample, were absolutely delicious and very fairly priced. Elote is a real gem!

My husband and I decided to stop here and have a late lunch/early dinner after a long hike at West Fork Trail. When we arrived we went straight in at 5:00 not realizing we needed a reservation. Since it was just the two of us, the hostess asked if we were able to leave by 6:30, which we assured her we would. We were seated out in the patio area that had heating devices to keep us warm. The food was good and the service was fast. We were served with homemade salsa and chips. I ordered the Grilled Halibut which was soooooooo good. Hubby ate some delicious Baja grilled tacos ( he didn't want fried which is how they are served). We decided to order dessert, Pastel Da Elote ( our waiter said it was his favorite) which did not disappoint.

You have to make reservations months in advance, we ended up getting take out. First off, it was really convenient to call in after 3PM to scheduled a take out order for later on in the day. We drove in from phoenix airport and made our order during the drive. Elote - delicious, the best dish there. Guac and chip - it was okay. Tamale - liked the green sauce it was in, however there is no filling. Keep that in mind. Carne asada - came with both a hard shell tortilla and two soft ones along with beans and rice. The flavor was Smokey, did not really care for it. Corn cake (not pictured) - really good!! Comes with ice cream and I liked the texture.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding service and a great menu.
The Elote corn was amazing. This place is always fully booked. If you to eat at Elote on your next trip to Sedona show up 10 minutes before they open and you will usually get a table.

Our much-anticipated evening at Elote was met with a blend of highs and lows. After months of eager anticipation, our group of six women arrived to find the atmosphere welcoming, with a cozy ambiance that set the stage for a memorable evening. The service, while undeniably friendly, bordered on overly enthusiastic. Still, it's clear the staff's intentions were genuine and the efforts were appreciated, even if slightly overwhelming. As for the food, it left much to be desired. While the dishes were adequately prepared, they fell short of the culinary expectations one might have for a highly-rated establishment. My dish, for example, came with two corn crusted scallops on a plate that my friends and I joked resembled Thanksgiving dinner - tomato jam (kinda tasted like cranberry sauce), white truffle crema (which seemed more like sour cream), pickled onions, and sprinkled with dried corn kernels. I was not expecting that! A few of my friends were also quite underwhelmed and felt like their dishes could've been better seasoned because they were bland. This was my second time visiting Elote. And, to be honest, I was reluctant going back as my first visit wasn't amazing either. Our experience can be summed up as pleasant but not exceptional. While the service was attentive, the overall culinary experience failed to leave a lasting impression. With a few tweaks to the menu and a touch of less intensity from the staff, Elote has the potential to elevate its dining experience to truly memorable heights. With all its great reviews, maybe I'm the oddball. Regardless, I certainly have hopes for continued success for this charming establishment.
Be the first to ReplyVery fine nouveau Mexicano.
Creative and whimsical. Had the duck carnitas - delicious. Be careful if you try to book online earlier. The service used defaults to a later date if nothing is available when you want it. We didn't realize til we got there. Luckily they fit us in.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointed in the food and ambiance.
All the hype about this place is unreal. I feel sorry about spending my money and time here. A poor rendition of Mexican food at best. Don't believe the hype and save yourself the time and money to eat here. Subpar food and ambience.

My favorite been the halibut. Great drinks and fantastic dessert. Highly recommend to try it

This was an excellent experience - outstanding food and nice service. We tried a couple of appetizers but if you have to pick just one get the queso: for this Texan, the Arizona style was something I'd rather have going-forward it was that good. The salsa was outstanding, also. Try the slow cooked beef rib quesadilla or the chicken enchiladas and you can't go wrong. We liked it so much we bought both of their cookbooks! One note of caution - reservations are booked two months in advance. DO NOT use Open Table to make your reservation as it will make a reservation for you on a different day than you picked. That happened to us and the staff said it is a known problem with Open Table. We had to wait for quite a bit in order for a table to open up but they were able to accommodate us.
Be the first to ReplyFood exceeded my expectation.
Sat in bar to eat. Bartender friendly and helpful. The smoked brisket enchiladas was memorable. The corn cake special dessert was delicious, the old fashion cocktail was excellent. Chef came out to meet us. Bought volume 1 cookbook. Already made 2 dishes and they were excellent. Ambiance is fun. Best food in Sedona
Be the first to ReplySo we waited several months to get in.
Booked our reservation long before we even got to Sedona. We felt like this spot was a lot overhyped. It was very average Mexican for a steep price point. Our entrees were good but definitely not great. Nothing that set them apart from any other Mexican food restaurant other than the ambiance and the price point. Our table was a corner table set way too close to another table that was SO incredibly loud that we couldn't even enjoy days ambiance. The drinks were good but again not anything to sing about. Just not sure how this spot has received the accolades that it has. We likely would not return and we for sure don't think it's worth waiting months in line to get a table. This, Javelina Cantina, and Agave 89 are all grossly overrated - There are other much better options for Mexican food in Sedona!
Be the first to ReplyWe eat here every time we come to Sedona.
Super yummy. The fish tacos are the best we have ever had. The service is amazing. Make sure to make reservations. They fill up quickly.
Be the first to ReplyThis is my second time at Elote Cafe.
This place gets booked months in advance, so I contacted the restaurant so I can be placed on a waitlist should there be a cancellation. I called, left a message, and returned my call the same day. I kept checking a few times a week and was finally able to get a reservation the day before. For drinks we got a blood orange margarita and Jeff's margarita. Jeff's margarita was strong and not as sweet as your typical margarita. For appetizers, we got goat cheese balls and corn crusted scallops. The sauces, corn, and toppings they place on both were excellent and really complement the flavors. For entrees, we got the Buffalo Mole Poblano and Pork Cheeks with home made flour tortillas (for an additional $4). I thought the flour tortillas was worth getting, you can really tell with taste and texture that the tortillas were made from scratch. Pork cheeks came out tender, almost like carnitas as well as the Buffalo mole. For dessert, we got the pastel de Elote. I thought the pastel was amazing when I came the first time, but they were just okay this time. A little too sweet tonight.Overall this place has great food and a good cocktail menu plus depending where you're seated, you'll have a great view of the beautiful Sedona sandstone mountains!

Was expecting a lot from this place considering how difficult it was to get a reservation and was a bit disappointed. Ambiance is very average and food was good but nothing spectacular and worth making a resy over a month in advance. The only thing we thought was spectacular was the elote appetizer. That was a 12/10. Our entrees were both cold when they were brought out and they gave fresh ones but still werent hot. Flavor of the pork cheek dish was good but nothing incredible. Enchiladas were average. Mojito was average.

From the name of this place, I had no idea it was fancy and you need reservations. They were fully booked but was able to get takeout. Everything was delicious, though pricey. It was $100 for 2. And my margarita while waiting for the food was $16. I highly recommend the Elote, Sweet Corn Bisque and Baja Fish tacos as apps. The smoked pork cheeks were oh so tender!! Though we didn't get the nice ambiance of the restaurant itself, the food here was the highlight of our trip to Sedona. Definitely put on your list!

My husband and I wanted to go here the first time we visited Sedona, but we didn't plan far enough in advance and there were no reservations left. This time, I didn't make the same mistake. I set a reminder for the day reservations opened to make sure I got one. We shared:- Elote- Lamb Adobo- Smoked Pork Cheeks- Pastel de EloteThis was definitely the best elote I've had! It's a must order. My favorite of the two entrees was the pork cheeks. I wanted to drink the sauce it was so good. The lamb was so tender and delicious. I thought the adobo sauce could have used a bit more depth personally. The pastel de elote was a very unique dessert. It reminded me of a sweet cornbread and I enjoyed it. This is definitely the best restaurant I've been to in Sedona, so I'd recommend trying to get reservations.

Stopped in here for a drink on the recommendation of a friend. I was blown away by the service and how kind and attentive the bartender was. We loved the drinks so decided to make a reservation for dinner for the following night. The host at the front is an amazing human and really pulled strings to get us a reservation because sat night are the busiest. He's a young man, tall with glasses wish I got his name but he's the sweetest! The food was spectacular!! There wasn't anything we didn't enjoy that we ordered and the service was still top notch even tho they were very busy. The outdoor patio has heaters and poncho style blankets which is perfect for the cold nights, we were very comfortable. I would highly recommend Elote for dinner but make a reservation to secure your spot.

Hands down the best restaurant in Sedona! Incredibly flavorful and unique dishes. Must try the Elote appetizer, pork cheeks and Pastel del Elote dessert. Cannot recommend enough!!
Be the first to ReplyElote Cafe is the BEST! I really recommend everyone go here
Elote Cafe is the BEST! I really recommend everyone go here for a meal when they are in Sedona. It's one of the most delicious restaurants I've ever been to in my life. I've been here for take out almost every visit to Sedona because it's impossible to get reservations. They are always fully booked even 2 months out! However, this time, it was my birthday and I decided to call and see if they could squeeze me in for a solo dinner at the bar. I was lucky and was able to get a bar spot at 7 PM. The jalapeno margarita was so spicy and delicious, it cleared my sinuses. The elote appetizer was sooooo yummy, I definitely packed the rest home. The complimentary chips and salsa were amazing as well. I got the smoked pork cheek entree with the corn cake. It was so flavorful and so well put together. I switched to red wine with my entree. Finally, I finished off with a birthday lime creme brulee. I love key lime and it was so delicious having it with a creme brulee! The whipped cream topping was so light and sweet!Thank you Elote Cafe for the birthday tequila shot. It was a bit caramel and toffee flavored and the perfect ending to the meal. I also had the buffalo mole poblano on a past visit for take-out and it was the best mole I've ever had. Next time, I'll try one of the fish dishes and the scallops! You really can't go wrong here. Elote Cafe is a Sedona gem and I'll be making a repeat visit every time I come back to Sedona.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and wonderful service.
The new location is much better than the old one. Elite corn appetizer was delicious.
Be the first to ReplyWe did take-out from here for a rather largish group.
.. so I think we had most of the things on the menu... Which means I'm not gonna remember half the stuff we ate, but here goes nothing...From the small plates section, the queso fundido was a big hit as was the corn soup. From the big plates, my personal favorites were the shrimp, the brisket enchiladas, the lamb, the duck carnitas, and the chicken enchiladas (told you would had everything)...So actually I do remember! But wat you should really get from this is this place is really good- you can't go wrong with whatever you order. Not to be missed in Sedona...
