I see a netizen who highly recommends this restaurant, saying it's so good that you can eat your way through the menu. So I made a reservation for dinner the next day. We arrived twenty minutes before our reservation and could see that parking was a matter of chance. Our meal was enjoyable throughout, from the seating to the ambiance to the service, especially the food was excellent, indeed all the dishes we ordered could have been a 5. The food was presented beautifully and produced excellent flavors that meshed well together. Highlights - The Bone marrow, the Halibut and Octopus and even the salad were all flavors we enjoyed. The only thing is that American Express card holders may be told at the checkout that they can't swipe it, so it's better to have a backup card or cash (the only thing that needs to be deducted from the score). We have decided that we will be back soon to try other dishes, their salmon, pork belly and brussels sprouts.

What can I rave about that hasn't been raved about by others? Consider this review me adding my "oohs" and "aahs" to the chorus. I have a fellow foodie friend who, like me, has been wanting a special night out at Fable & Spirit for years and we finally made it happen. Worth the wait and definitely going on the special occasion go-to list. We enjoyed the experience from start to finish. We made a Thursday night dinner reservation. We were shown promptly to our 2-top table. I spotted at least 3 larger groups - clearly a good celebration spot. It was loud but it didn't bother us- it was part of the ambiance of the place. I felt like I was in LA or NY - when we finished our meal and stepped outside into quiet Newport Beach, my brain had to readjust. I'm glad they're taking advantage of sidewalk seating from a business standpoint, but if you want the full experience make sure you get a table inside. The attention to detail from décor to tableware communicates upscale with a hint of whimsy. Shout-out to our server Maci who is a gem - had great recommendations and made us feel very at ease with our dining experience. Cocktails were creative and balanced. My friend and I split a bunch of plates and they came out at a great pace. Highly recommend the Mangalitsa Pork Belly. Whatever else you get, make sure to order the Guinness Brown Bread - trust me! My taste buds were blissed out over every slice, spread generously with European butter. Thank you Fable & Spirit for serving up a sensory feast!

Very impressed with the diverse array of dishes this restaurant offers. The interior was warm and fun, and noise level was medium. For our dishes - 1) Fish & Chips- Crispy, golden-brown and the pieces were huge, we had to bring some leftovers home. This dish was accompanied by a generous serving of perfectly seasoned fries and curry dipping sauce and a bed of crushed peas. Next, the cracked pepper bucatini--This dish had the perfect balance of spice and creaminess with flavor and clams in each bite The brussels sprouts-- Roasted to perfection in the wood-fired oven, these brussels sprouts were caramelized to perfection. Wood-fired octopus-- Tender and succulent, with a delicate charred exterior that lent a hint of smokiness. Service: impeccable and created a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyA few years later and F&S is still killing it.
If i could buy the guinness bread by the pound i would rent a U-Haul... It still remains one of my favorite cute date spots in OC where I know I'm guaranteed good ambiance, great food and drinks, and the right amount of noise (subtle, not rowdy). The type of place you go once youre 30+ years old :)
Be the first to ReplyLoved their ambiance.
Their food was very good as well, EXCEPT the salads were uninspired and cheap. I think that their establishment is very unique and I liked that they stayed consistent with their theme and concept from the decor to the menu items. Don't order the salads, they were sad I expected way more. The rabbit was okay, I mean I have never had rabbit but it wasn't super flavorful. The dishes that I thought were good were the mussels, the fish and chips, the pasta, and the white fish. I also enjoyed their Guinness bread and butter. The server's assistants were on point, always there to fill waters and provide extra butter, to-go boxes, etc anything we needed they were right there ready to help. I think that this place would be a great spot to celebrate a special event like a birthday as well.
Be the first to ReplyHeres what we ordered.
Hamachi crudo, caeser salad, octopus, roasted cauliflower( this was steamed), fried chix, and cant remember the rest. IMO its not worth the price and the food was plated well etc but didnt really taste great. I wouldnt come back but i wish them all the luck.

My husband took me to Fable and Spirit for my birthday and it did not disappoint. We had the perfectly seasoned grilled octopus and a large bowl of mussels in a delicate wine sauce. Both appetizers were outstanding. I ordered rack of lamb which came with a mushroom risotto. The entire entree was delicious and cooked to perfection and both items were so flavorful. My husband ordered the steak and it was also prepared perfectly. Both entrees were a perfect 10 out of 10. Our server, J.J. was top notch. He was so personable and really took great care of us making my birthday a great experience at this restaurant. The bread pudding is the best in Orange County. The energy in Fable and Spirit is good karma all the way. Fable and Spirit is a restaurant to keep coming back to- it is just soooo good!
Be the first to ReplyFood was great! Lots of flavor.
Our server (who had a killer mustache) was excellent. Very attentive and knowledgeable. Ambiance was great! Beautiful restaurant. 10/10 would go again!

My first visit to Fable & Spirit was a few months after there opening. I had just touched down from San Francisco and went straight to my reservation at the restaurant. I loved the décor and touches of whimsy but I'm not sure what happened as I was left feeling meh about my meal. I didnt return UNTIL recently after my friend, who is as much of a foodie as I am, made it clear that I was wrong and needed to give Fable & Spirit another shot. My lord, it was a meal to remember from top to bottom the service, the food the ambiance was on point. From the first appetizer of Guinness bread and butter and bone marrow to the drinks to the delicious entrée every morsel was c'est magnififque. I'm So glad I stayed open to giving this jewel a second change. I highly recommend this restaurant to any person visiting Newport or making their way to Lido.

I'm always hanging out in Lido Village, but I never knew this spot was here. I came here for a last minute date and it was great spot. We got the Brussels Sprouts, and fish and chips. Both were solid af. We also got drinks which were pretty good also, I think I had two, almost went for a third because my date was so boring. But above all, this is a great spot for drinks and food. I'll be back soon, with a new date

5/5: pei mussels $26: beautiful seasoning, delicate, refreshing: sea hug for your belly.4/5: wood fired octopus $28: tender and succulent; however, the sofrito and chorizo over powered the tentacles.4/5: cracked pepper bucatini $30: this entree must be shared: rich and filling. Perfectly Al-Dente. I wanted more sauce and more of a kick from the peppers. 5/5: budino: velvet chocolate spoon cream. The plate was a poor choice as a service vessel because it was hard to scoop. I recommend serving this dessert in a bowl or little jar.4/5: they gifted us the lemon blueberry bread pudding: I like the new texture of bread- it was gelatinous. However, the lemon flavor was too overpowering for my palate. Excellent birthday dinner. I would come back.Reservations required. Be prepared for constant loud noise and butt-to-elbow crowded seating. Next time, I'll come back for their cocktails

I think this may be one of my favorite restaurants in Orange County right now. The combination of fabulous food, wonderful service, and beautiful decor makes this place a destination for a special occasion, but also relaxed enough for a casual evening out. The style of the food tends is hearty, which I like, and the portions are very generous. The wine list is excellent. It has received a Michelin Bib Gourmand which is a very special designation for both excellence and good value. Could not agree more.
Be the first to ReplyWhat an amazing restaurant!Fable & Spirit is in the Newport
What an amazing restaurant!Fable & Spirit is in the Newport lido streets and it gives a very stars in the night type of vibe. When you enter, you can see the wall of wine bottles. I got seated immediately with a reservation made in advance. They seated me at a bigger table which I appreciated. Done well:I think the look and feel of the restaurant is awesome. The menu is very extensive but they have the favorites: porketta, octopus, bone marrow, etc. A lot of people seem to get similar menu items with wines paired or cocktails made at their full bar in the back. Wonderful cocktails for sure! I also liked the privacy and noise level in the restaurant-- not too loud or too quiet for my liking :) Needs improvement: The servers throughout the meal changed, I assume this is due to the high volume of customers. However I do believe that higher end restaurants should always be served with the same set of servers and runners for continuation of service -- leading to higher customer ratings and tip. Also the front host table was left empty for quite some time. Those are the only ones that popped out to my attention. Overall this restaurant is very chic and beautiful. Great menu items and quality of food.
Be the first to ReplyThis is the third times we have rated this place as 5 stars.
I think this is a first for me to do that. The service is great and so is the food. Guinness brown bread. Soft, warm and delicious Whipped butter with honey and sea salt, soft and perfect with the bread Just the two of us as a drink - it struck me as too strong at first but after the third sip I was very happy with it. It could have been the extra stirring. Something hard to do with the large ice cube. Confit chicken - second time and glad I got it again. Others got Lamb. Bucatini - very goodBlueberry Meyer Lemon bread pudding - Wow this is great.

Wonderful food and service, this was our third time here and it is our favorite place in this area! Servers were great - twice we had Seth as server and he was the best! The Guinness brown bread was so so good, loved everything we ordered.

Holy MOLY! Can you say AMAZING FOOD! Seriously, I found this place through a Yelp recommendation and I am so glad I did.The setting is so vibey and fun, the ambiance is simply impeccable. The service is top tier and exemplifies class. If you're looking for a fun experience with a wide, flavorful menu - look no further because you've found the place.
Be the first to ReplyI've had the pleasure to dine at F&S a few times each time
I've had the pleasure to dine at F&S a few times each time before this was wonderful. This last time was a bit of a disappointment. The staff was wonderful as always, and quite attentive. The food seemed a bit under par than the level we have had in the past. For the most part it tasted well, just not spectacular as has been in our prior visits. Plating also seemed a bit lackluster. It was like they had the B Team in the kitchen and they were cooking from recipes. Don't get me wrong the food was good, but If I'm going to drop $500 for a dinner for 4 that did not include wine, I want to be blown away like I'm used to at Fable & Spirit. This time it missed the mark.

What a lovely Sunday brunch we had yesterday!Thank you to the team for accommodating our party of 15. My family and I really enjoyed the ambiance and hospitality from the waiters. I wish I could remember their names but they were great! My salmon was cooked perfectly to my liking! Until yesterday I didn't know I could choose how much my salmon is cooked.I can't wait to return to try the dinner menu.

Fable and Spirit is an exceptional restaurant that offers a unique dining experience in Newport Beach. The restaurant's menu features a range of dishes that are crafted with care and attention to detail. During my recent visit, I had the pleasure of trying some of their signature dishes, including the Guinness Brown Bread, Avocado Shrimp Toast, Pei Mussels, Cracked Pepper Bucatini, and Shakshuka.Firstly, I have to mention the Guinness Brown Bread - it was outstanding! The bread was perfectly moist and had a rich, malty flavor that paired well with the salty butter. The dish was a perfect start to the meal and set the tone for what was to come. The Avocado Shrimp Toast was another standout dish that I would highly recommend. The combination of fresh, buttery avocado and succulent shrimp made for a perfect pairing. The dish was light and refreshing, yet still had a satisfying depth of flavor that left me wanting more. The Pei Mussels were cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of seasoning and a hint of heat from the chili flakes. The dish was presented beautifully, with a generous portion of mussels in a fragrant broth that was perfect for dipping the delicious toasted bread into. The Cracked Pepper Bucatini was another standout dish. The pasta was cooked al dente and tossed with a flavorful sauce that had just the right amount of spice. The dish was hearty and filling, yet still had a lightness to it that made it a perfect option for lunch or dinner.Lastly, I have to mention the Shakshuka. This dish is a Middle Eastern breakfast classic, and Fable and Spirit's version did not disappoint. The eggs were perfectly cooked and served in a flavorful tomato sauce that was bursting with herbs and spices. The dish was served with warm pita bread for dipping, making it a perfect option for sharing.Overall, I was extremely impressed with Fable and Spirit. The restaurant's attention to detail, exceptional service, and unique menu made for an unforgettable dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable meal in Newport Beach. The Guinness Brown Bread, Avocado Shrimp Toast, Pei Mussels, Cracked Pepper Bucatini, and Shakshuka were all standouts, but I have no doubt that any dish on their menu would be equally impressive.

I have heard & read great things about this, but I was not impressed. Maybe I over expected something more amazing? I am not saying the food was bad, it just seemed a average for the higher prices. We had fish & chips, and a steak plus salads. The food was good, but I expected a little bit more...ala Arc restaurant, no offense. Our service was great, but I cannot remember her name.
Be the first to ReplyIt's pricey, but the ambiance is great.
Food is always top notch. This is a place where you can tell the kitchen is ran right from the food and presentation of said food. I've been here a couple of times and food is consistently good. Last night I had:Bone marrow: this is the real deal. Best bone marrow I ever had simply because of the quality. They come with sautéed onions, parsley salad, and of course, bread. Solid. Burger: this is everything you'd expect from a $26 burger. The pattie is created in house using top quality proteins, the bacon is thick cut and basically crispy pork belly, and the bun is from a bakery across the way (which is also an amazing spot). Meat, cheese, bun. Perfect. Oh and the fries, Parmesan truffle! Bucatini: pasta made in house, pancetta, clams. It's a perfect pasta dish. Quality. You don't feel like passing out right after you eat it. Service: My experiences at brunch where Meh. Definitely didn't match the quality, or price, of the food, but I ate at the bar last night and the service was phenomenal, friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. Wish I got the bartenders name but he was the last one on. Just go.

I honestly have never heard of this place until I was invited for dinner. I would just like to say "wow!". This place left me wanted me more even when I was completely full. I came to a big party, so I got the luxury of trying so many dishes. For appetizers, I had the octopus, Brussels sprouts, beets, pork belly, prawns, pizzetta, and brown bread. That might sound like a lot but I did share it with 6 other people. I would say my favorite were the pork belly and pizzetta. Everything else was also amazing but those were just my favorites from the appetizers. I had the pleasure of sharing the fable burger and it was quite honestly one of the best luxury burgers I've ever had. It just pulled out all the stops for me and I really enjoyed it. As a party, we did end up getting both desserts which were both delicious but I did prefer the Callebaut Chocolate Budino. I had a wonderful time and I would love to come back. This place deserves 10 stars
