Spectacular!
I love Faro. Finally after 14 years, I have found the best Italian restaurant in New York. It is not just the food, which by the way is amazing (fresh, surprising, authentic), but the atmosphere. Upon arrival you walk through a space that is oasis like, full of plants, wood and high ceilings. Unlike other restaurants in the city (where you are crammed), at Faro you can breathe. The staff is friendly and chic, without being pretentious. Everyone is taking their work seriously and yet the atmosphere is relaxed. Did I mention the music selection? As cool as it gets, without being loud or disruptive.
I had the privilege of dining twice- first time I ordered the bucatini which I highly recommend (perfectly balanced flavors, exceptionally fresh pasta and a killer ragú); second time, the tasting menu- an absolute tour de force, every bite was tasty, elegant, a pure culinary celebration. I adored the venison- juicy and tender, like no other meat you have had in your life. Treat yourself to this Bushwick gem in the company of a glass of Chianti classico. It will be a most memorable experience for the senses. Thank you Faro!
Faro - If you're real hungry, expect to grab something afterwards...
The food was good but I cannot get used to these super small portions. The dishes are all on the expensive side and you get very little. Oh BTW, you have to buy bread & butter, $6 if I remember correctly.
First we had a couple of appetizers:
Doppio Tortelli - 3 pieces of a ravioli type thing, flat an a nice flavor. Just when you're getting into it, they are all gone. $17
Buffalo Ricotta - WTF, a dollop of ricotta and watercress. Nothing to write home about. $16
Then the main courses:
Duck - two slices of duck breast laying on a concoction of mashed parsnip etc. $29
Scallops - three scallops nicely done with a tablespoon of a squash puree. $27
Gnocci Alla Romana - basically a small block (probably 4x3x2 inches) of some potato and cheese mixture sliced in three. Oh, there was about a tablespoon of pork laid on top. The only good thing to say about it would be that you could probably feel somewhat satisfied that something is in your stomach (compared to the other sparse dishes). $24
Dessert - A coffee and chocolate roll which was very nice. $13
Top this off with some $14 drinks ( a Manhattan & a Tequila Sour) and your all set. All set to grab a slice of pizza so you don't have to go to bed hungry...
The service was fine, if not overly-appreciative of every single item on the menu (they seem to love them all). Sure.
This is a good spot if you're looking to be gallant on a first date but remember to grab something to nosh on at home if you're hungry (or I suppose that you can order several main dishes).
Oh, perhaps the best thing about this place is the parking, there is plenty of it right there in front of the door.
It's not all about the money for me but is it for them?
The food was exquisite
The food was exquisite. Everything we had made us say wow. The service was great and the atmosphere was perfect. It was an amazing night out. Can’t wait to go back.
Be the first to ReplySo incredible and innovative but still affordable!
My bf and I go to Faro about 1-3 times a month. We can not get enough of their food which is updated not only by season, but even changes weekly. Chef Kevin Adey takes pleasure in highlighting flavor and reworking classic recipes. His approach is on the "if it's not broke" side and it's so refreshing. Personal favorites are the creste de gallo pasta. It's the most chicken-y pasta I've ever tasted. It's like concentrated chicken. So incredible. We also love the doppio tortelli. It just melts in your mouth. Of the entrees, I often find myself either ordering the season fish, scallops or duck. They are reinvented every couple of weeks are so and are another level of deliciousness. Starters change frequently but are always very good. The desserts get better and better every time we go. I remember the turtle tart, the fantastic strawberry whip with chocolate olive cake (my summertime favorite), the cake with whipped pumpkin ice cream (my fall favorite), etc.
We have also partaken in their tasting menu. It's an experience not to be missed. If you have the means to give it a try, I highly recommend it!
The overall atmosphere is a little more casual and it's a great place to bring friends. Every time we have brought friends, they have loved it and come on their own.
The staff are beyond friendly! They remember you and greet you even if you are seated in a different section.
While not exactly a hidden gem, I almost don't understand how it's not packed EVERY night.
Michelin better recognize the greatness and give them back their star!
Great Food - at still reasonable prices
Clearly one of the highlights of this years trip to New York. Stunning pasta dishes and other mains. Good wine selection, reasonably priced. We would strongly recommend and come back!

The place where they still cook using wood. Amazing atmosphere. Great and friendly staff. I ordered pasta Creste de Gallo and my friend Sedani. Both was absolutely amazing! Non-standard taste, always with a pinch of something interesting in it. I am usually very critical about the food but this was so delicious!

We booked a table for four at Faro, to celebrate our last night in Brooklyn with our two sons. We all ordered something different, but particular standouts were the Pappardelle with Foie Gras, the Sea Scallops and the Octopus. We started with Aviation cocktails and then had a delicious bottle of white wine. The service was excellent, the food absolutely delicious and we will certainly be back.
Be the first to ReplyMichelin pleasure in Bushwick
It was a pleasure to visit Faro. We had the Tuna Tartar, Grilled baby Octopus, Halibut with Zucchini, Squid ink pasta with Lobster and Pulled Lamb pasta. All excellent and well executed, just the right size of the dishes. Interesting and varied choice of wines.
Faro could further excel with a better dessert offering, more wines by the glass and better bread. Though bread was homemade it wasn't on par with quality of the dishes. Good bread can be found locally in Bushwick, for example at L'imprimerie just 10 mins away.
Handmade pasta
This place is consistently great. This time we had the squid ink/lobster pasta, the Caramelle, the heirloom tomatoes, the beets, the wide noodle foie gras pasta appetizer, and the scallops with a bottle of Sancerre. Every bite was delicious as usual!
My only gripe is that the dining room is a bit too loud because of all of the hard surfaces.
