EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH IT!
While pricey, the unpretentious dishes we ordered were delicious and well worth money. Fiola Mare's prices are not out of line with other restaurants in DC which do not offer the same quality and overall experience. We noted on the reservation that we were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and the staff went out of the way to make our lunch extra special....from a notation on the menu, to a special little dessert and dessert wine presented with a card. Thank you Joshua for making our special day so special!

Again, this was planned a long time ago, but out friends canceled. Fantastic. At the entrance we bumped into on of the famous CNN contributor. Surprise bonus. Good table and very experienced and knowledgeable waiter. Good drinks. Positives: - delicious porcini and truffle soup, selection of razor, surf and littleneck clams, calamari and mussels appetizer. For entrees - grilled whole Dover sole with drawn butter and crushed potatoes, and homemade rigatoni with monkfish, swordfish, lobster, octopus, mussels (Pacheri frutti di mare). Negatives: - no green salads, you have to pay for bread, if you want it.
Be the first to ReplyHigh Quality Seafood with Exceptional Service
I have been to Fiola Mare many times and am never disappointed. Yes, it is expensive, but so is sourcing high quality seafood. I have always found the host staff, managers, bartenders and servers to be friendly and professional. I have always felt the effort put forth to ensure a special dining experience from start to finish. You can ask any of the bartenders or servers about anything on the menu from food to cocktails to wine and you will surely get an informed answer to help you settle on your ordering. Honestly, I often give them a little information about my group's preferences and then let them recommend some things about our culinary journey! To take in the whole experience, be sure to do several courses and share! Save room for dessert. The chocolate tiramisu is incredible.
Be the first to ReplyHuge ripoff, ruined our trust in the recommendations from Tripadvisor
We were four, a dinner that we expected to cost about $450 based on the limited dishes we selected from the menu plus the bottle of white wine from the regular lunch menu, they ended charging $700 (including the $100 tip). We probably looked from out of town and this is why we figured they took advantage. I only found out the day after, as this was an invitation by my sister and her husband. I feel embarrassed because my sister and her British husband came all the way to DC for a family event and this happened on their first day in DC. We came to this restaurant for Sunday lunch based on the recommendations found on Tripadvisor. The next time, we will check other websites as well.
Be the first to ReplyHorrible service
Just left the restaurant. Checked my coat as it was raining. Had a sentimental necklace that was my mothers in my raincoat pocket which put on there prior to entering the restaurant and when I left it was gone. Called the restaurant only could speak with reservations they said they would leave a message. Called again and asked to speak with the floor manager and was sent to voicemail. I am saddened that such an expensive upscale place has such horrible customer service.I’ve lived in Washington for many years and will never take my business clients there again
Be the first to ReplyBirthday dinner ruined by this place’s inaccessibility and complete lack of interest in customer in a wheelchair
I wish I could give zero stars, since we actually didn’t get to eat there. It was my birthday, we had a reservation, and my husband, who uses a wheelchair, called ahead just in case. Turns out their entrance isn’t accessible- if you walk all the way around the building and find someone to help you outside, they say there’s a lift. But, even though we called ahead, they didn’t have it working. So we were supposed to wait in the rain while they got their act together to let us in. No thank you. But thanks for ruining my birthday.
Be the first to ReplyThe best calamari
I walked in as I was on a business trip. I asked the waiter named, Franko “make me come back”. I was greeted with a nice warm up of little fluffy clouds in the mouth and cappuccino. Nice start. Then came an egg Benedict with nitro infused mint that made me feel like I bit into a warm rainy day. Then comes the best calamari I have ever had. Second is a restaurant in douglasville GA called Mamoyo. Here is where I was enjoying the fact I walked into this place. Then came a fish dish that I could not explain. The skin was seared to perfection, it was the texture of potato chips but with much more flavor, and most of the time when the skin is perfect then the fish would be dried out, but this was not the case, it was moist and tender. The best combination that you could ask for. Never have I had such an experience like this. By this time I was done but then had to try the Desert took two bits and wished I had more room to enjoy. All in all Franko made me want to go back and experience this culinary Devine.

I can’t say enough good things about Fiola Mare. The food, the service, the setting, all amazing! It took us back to our visit to Italy where you are allowed to have a long, leisurely, dinner and aren’t rushed. We were in the DC area for a business conference. My husband and I wanted a nice dinner out but weren’t sure where best to go. Some colleagues from the DC area recommend Fiola Mare. They said they thought it was one of the best restaurants in the DC area. I can’t speak to that, but wow! The restaurant is located in Georgetown on the waterfront. We were seated outside with a great view of the waterfront and the Potomac. They have an extensive wine list. The menu consists mostly of seafood and homemade pasta. The Buratta was superb with a touch of melon and fresh basil. I had the Raviolo Sbagliato which had a very nice mix of favors. It literally melted in my mouth! My husband had the Wild Danish Turbot Alla Romana at the suggest of our waiter. The fish was flaky and moist and the dish was delicious. We finished it off with the Tiramisu, which we enjoyed because it wasn’t drenched in rum, and some Limoncello. We had a great view of the sunset from our table. Great people watching along the walkway too. The staff let us linger and allowed us to truly enjoy our meal and visit. We will definitely be back when we are in DC again.
Be the first to ReplyOriginal and elegant fish and pasta restaurant!
Wonderful seafood restaurant right in the water- seating either outside on the terrace overlooking the water or inside their beautiful dining room. Right in downtown Georgetown. Good wine list and original seafood selection. The pasta with clams and razor clams was fantastic as was the ceviche. Large chunks of fish with exotic, original flavors. The crudos were to die for. Excellent service. Also options for meat eaters or vegetarians. We will return!
Be the first to ReplyConsistently good!
I wouldn’t believe there was COVID based on how packed the restaurant was. In addition, some restaurants don’t have enough staff to cover a full house. This is not the case. Within minutes of sitting down the waitress was at our table to take drink orders. Moments later she was taking our good orders. Super fast, super courteous. Super pleasant.
They had their fabulous eggplant appetizer. It is seasonal so we lucked out. There were four of us thankfully. So we could all order different options and get to taste.
The bursars is so fresh. It melts when you cut into it. They also pour a “sauce” which smokes like dry ice. There is a basil wafer on top of the cheese. It is just amazing I g. The ravioli, tuna tartare. Black bass and sea bass were almost perfectly cooked. The fish skin had just a touch of Crispiness and sea salt so that when you squeezed the grilled mayer lemon in it , the juice tooled across the surface evenly. And the vast item…. Is their bread. It is a rolled croissant/ brioche w perfect flakiness and crispy w. Touch of rock salt. It took all my will power to not order a second one.
Every time I eat here, it just keeps improving in service, originality and all around experience.
Also, it is on the water with. Lovely view.
A favorite restaurant when visiting family
Whenever I visit family in the area, I try to eat at Fiola Mare. We've been eating here since the restaurant opened and love it for brunches, holiday dinners and lobster roll lunches.
I missed eating here in 2020 due to no holiday travels but just had a wonderful dinner at the bar (December 2021).
Highly recommend the charcoal grilled Ora King Salmon with
charred radicchio, porcini crema, and black garlic.
I live on the West Coast and miss the ambiance of certain DC restaurants. Every time I eat here the service is outstanding.
Wish there was a zero rating
This is a pus-filled corona virus trap. No enforcement of mask mandate. Would not eat here again unless I wanted to die of coronavirus. Also staff is rude.
Be the first to ReplyNice romantic fine Italian dinning
Took my date to there for dinner. The drinks and food were great. With two exceptions only my dates pasta dish first came out really salty and they made another recommendation to correct and the one Italian dessert was ok not like one serviced in Italy which was better. However their camp bowl s’more dessert was great made up for some of the little disappointment. The seafood tray was awesome and my dish was prefect as well. I love the one drink that came In a smoke box it was best drink I have had. I would recommended this restaurant it is on the higher pricy side but great food and romantic atmosphere it is 100% fine dinning.
Be the first to ReplyCaution
Caution: I provided a credit card authorization form in advance so that I could surprise my family members without a bill coming to the table. A few hours after the restaurant charged my card, multiple unauthorized charges for consumer goods were made to my card, which hadn't been used anywhere else and never left my possession. The consumer goods were set to be shipped to a residential address in DC. I am waiting for the restaurant to complete their "investigation" and I have filed a police report, as well as of course cancelled my card and placed a fraud alert on all of my accounts. Really shockingly bad experience at a restaurant like this, and a major disappointment at what was supposed to be a big celebration.
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant for a family celebration
Took my wife here tonight to celebrate her birthday, it took a while to get in and had to go through security, found out later that the president was inside having dinner also. Once entered we had a very nice waiter named Thomas who was very attentive to us and ensured we understood the different parts of the menu. My wife ordered the Langoustine and she really lived them. The were grilled and had a great flavor and were very tender. I ordered the Branzino Vernaccia, it wasn't bad, but very bland even with the sauce, although the clams on the side were really delicious. We ordered the Tiramisu for dessert, but the chef also included the Bombiloni and a piece of birthday for my wife. All of the desserts were fabulous and we ended up eating all three of them. Aside from my fish everything were great and we look forward to another visit in the future.
Be the first to Reply4.5 Stars Out Of 5, I Don't Think So!
We had read the very good reviews, so attended this restaurant for an evening meal.
We ordered the following:
(1) Branzino crudo, which appeared well on the plate. However, on attempting to slice the fish it was stringy and not easy to cut;
(2) Crab Rotolo, which is the lovely-looking rolled pasta with crab meat in a tomato sauce. Again looked wonderful on the plate, but one member of our party found plastic that kept the pasta together while baking still present (we did photograph this, if there are any disbelievers!);
(3) For main course, we ordered the mixed seafood grill with a side portion of potatoes. Okay, but nothing to write home about; and
(4) Dessert was a liquid one of Espresso Martinis. By this stage we'd had enough of the food and mistakes.
We did drink a bottle of Dehlinger pinot noir (Russian River Valley 2017), which was rather fruity for a pinot noir. At least they opened it without any problem.
Service (Server was Marlon R on receipt) was okay. However, after the pasta being served with plastic wrap still attached, we reported this to our server. We did not press the matter, but wanted to see how he'd react. He did bring us a small Tiramisu after main course and thanked us for being discreet.
Overall, 1 star out of 5. A terrible experience for an expensive joint. Take our advice, go somewhere else!
Good food, horrible ambiance (post pandemic?)
We went here for our 11 year anniversary on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was overcrowded and we were seated in between two columns with what felt like an aisle and were packed in with diners behind us and booth diners right of us. Additionally, directly facing us in a booth seat was a female patron in ripped jean shorts, halter top that bared her tummy and back and sneakers. It was very off-putting to celebrate an anniversary dinner confined to a tight space while having to face that patron for our nice dinner. It look like the patron had walked off the street after sightseeing and ended up here. I understand there isn't a strict dress code but to see a diner dressed like that and be seated in a prime spot by the booths with water view was a total turn off in what is supposed to be a nice restaurant. We complained to the host when we were done with dinner and he seemed apologetic and said with Covid they’re just trying to get customers to come back. Well, they've just lost us as future customers. While food and service were good the ambiance was totally lost due to this. The waiter didn't ask if our dinner was a special occasion and seemed busy. We had to tell our waiter it was our anniversary. It was one of the most expensive dinners we've had in DC (and we've been to most of the top restaurants over the years) with the poorest ambiance. Giving it two stars because service was decent, if rushed and food was cooked well. Maybe it was better before the pandemic but we will not be spending our money here again.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing
Their website homepage advertises openings for several cooks, and that is the only explanation for our very disappointing 50th anniversary dinner. Great location and ambiance but those were the only positives. Ordered what was described as a salad with tender baby greens, heirloom tomatoes, goat cheese with a lemon vinaigrette. Tossed into this "lovely" mix were strongly seasoned roasted broccoli florets & beets, which I detest. Felt like an ambush...and where was the goat cheese? We shared the seafood grill which was ok but not great. Only 1 scallop & alot of calamari. The side of potatoes looked like it was just plopped into a serving bowl. No garnishes or any effort to make our entrees attractive, although the potatoes were tasty. Worst was the "Campfire" dessert. It was an interesting idea, basically a hot fudge sundae served in what looked like a goldfish bowl. As described, it had caramel corn and toasted marshmallows mixed in with the gelato. The problem was that the bowl was placed on a large bed of rosemary sprigs, perhaps to create the idea of a forest? In the low light the rosemary looked black and unappealing, but it was the aroma of the rosemary that overpowered everything. The combination of a poor dining experience at a very extravagant price at least gives us something to laugh about. We would recommend choosing a different restaurant until they resolve their staffing issues!
Got ill
We ate here about 2 years ago and almost everyone in our party fell ill with stomach issues. So today I thought we would give it another try. When we call, the automated system keeps hanging up on me. .
